MICHAEL ARBAN

Michael Arban, former director of Central Alabama Community College, died March 31. He was 69 years old.

Arban was named director of the junior college, known then as Nunnelley Vocational Institute, July 28, 1971.

A 1952 graduate of A.G. Parish High School, Arban received his bachelor of science degree from Livingston State College in 1959.

Before becoming director of the Childersburg junior college, Arban was assistant director and business manager of George C. Wallace State Junior College in Selma.

During his tenure at the Childersburg campus, Arban was active in many civic organizations, serving two terms as president of the Childersburg Chamber of Commerce. He was active in the Sylacauga Kiwanis Club and other civic clubs.

While Arban was serving as director of CACC, the college was awarded several large grants, making expansion of the learning center possible. Those included grants for a new diesel and heavy equipment repair classroom, clerical work classes and the study of textile technology.

In August 1977, Arban announced a grant of $325,000 to be used in construction of the new Bill Nichols Support Media Center. The center opened in November 1979.

Arban was the recipient of the Livingston State College Golden Key Award in 1979. This special society recognizes excellence in life among the college's alumni and former faculty.

He served on the following state committees: the Governor's Select Committee for Unified Education Budget, 1976-78; the state Education Advisory Committee, 1976-78; the state Board of Education Standards Committee, 1978; and president of the Alabama Technical College Presidents Association, 1978.

He served as a member of the Alabama Commission on Higher Education, was chairman of the Athens State College Advisory Board, Counsel to the Alabama Technical College Presidents Association, member of Auburn University Post secondary Advisory Council and was a member of its Board of Directors.

Funeral service will be today 2 p.m. at Queen of Peace Church in Selma, Father Carol Plourde officiating.

Burial will be in New Live Oak Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Jane Browning Arban of Selma; two daughters, Tracy and Phillip Roger Wiedmeyer and Pamela Arban Morgan; and three grandchildren.

The family requests memorials to UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center, in care of Dr. Saif's Research, 1530 3rd. Ave. S.W., WTI 262, Birmingham, 35294, or Cahaba Hospice.

Lawrence Funeral Home of Selma will direct the service.

ANNIE T. BROWN

DADEVILLE Graveside service for Annie T. Brown, 79, will be Thursday at 2 p.m. in Dadeville City Cemetery with the Rev. William Perry Jr. officiating.

Mrs. Brown died March 27 at Lakeshore Community Hospital.

She is survived by three daughters, Linda Sue Toler, Hellen Brown and Anita Brown of Dadeville; two sons, Joe Brown and Lynn Brown of Dadeville; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives.

Wright's Funeral Home will direct the service.

JAMES W. BRYANT

VINCENT Memorial service for James W. (Jay) Bryant, 71, will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church with the Rev. James Blair officiating.

Mr. Bryant died March 31. He was retired from Chrysler with the Huntsville Space Division. He served in the Korean War.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Bryant of Vincent; two sons, Eric and wife Anita Bryant of Mobile and Todd and wife Carol Bryant of Burgaw, N.C.; one sister, Billie Newton of Leeds; two brothers, Gene Bryant of St. Louis, Mo., and Bud Bryant of Leeds; four grandchildren, Jay and wife Stephanie Bryant of Mobile, Tori Bryant of Mobile and Madison and Gracyn Bryant of Burgaw, N.C.; one great-grandchild, Breanna Bryant of Mobile; and data control family.

His body will be donated to UAB Anatomy per his request.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lakeside Hospice or the Love Pantry.

BEN CARLTON

SYLACAUGA Ben Carlton, 61, died April 1 at Russell Medical Center.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Radney-Smith Funeral Home in Sylacauga.

ABBY JEWELL DULANEY

MONTGOMERY Funeral service for Abby Jewell Dulaney, 6, will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Talladega Funeral Home chapel with Wayne Dunaway officiating. Burial will be in Plum Springs Cemetery.

Miss Dulaney died March 31 at Childrens Hospital in Birmingham. She was preceded in death by her mother, Anita Phillips Dulaney. She was a resident of Talladega County for most of her life and had lived in Montgomery for the past year. A member of Ohatchee Church of Christ, she was a former student of the Stemley Head Start Program and was a current student of the Wares Ferry Elementary School in Montgomery.

She is survived by her parents, Kevin and Jenny Dulaney of Montgomery; two sisters, Annaka Dulaney and Jaycie Dulaney of Montgomery; two brothers, Chance Dulaney of Lincoln and Hunter Thornhill of Montgomery; grandparents, Perry and Patricia Dulaney of Lincoln, Jerry and Denise Oliver of Lincoln and Tony and Michele Fannin of Montgomery; great-grandparents, Jewell Dulaney of Lincoln and Evelyn Covert of Montgomery; and several aunts and uncles.

Pallbearers will be Jason Jones, Doug Dulaney, Barron Dulaney and Shannon Rorrer.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Talladega Funeral Home will direct the service.

JOE JACKSON

TALLADEGA Joe Jackson, 83, died April 1 at Talladega Health Care Center.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Terry's Metropolitan Mortuary.

JENNIE McKINNEY

HARPERSVILLE Jennie McKinney, 104, died March 30 at Coosa Valley BMC.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Madden's Funeral Home.

BENJAMIN J. MOTT SR.

SPRINGVILLE Funeral service for Benjamin J. Mott Sr., 75, will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Ridout's Trussville Chapel with the Rev. Tim Boffey officiating. Burial will be in Springville Cemetery.

Mr. Mott died March 30.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Gloria Y. Mott; son, Benjamin J. Mott Jr.; daughter, Brenda J. Mott; three granddaughters; three great-grandsons; one brother; one sister; and a host of other relatives.

Ridout's Trussville Chapel will direct the service.

ERIC DON PARKER

MUNFORD Graveside service for Eric Don Parker, 50, will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in Crestwood Memorial Cemetery in Gadsden with Terry Swinford officiating.

Mr. Parker died April 1 at his residence. He was a native of Gadsden and lived in Munford for the past 20 years. He was a Baptist by faith. He was an employee of Honda Manufacturing of Alabama and a member of Local I.B.E.W. He was preceded in death by his father, James Parker; and a brother, Bryan Parker.

He is survived by his wife, Carol D. Brasher Parker of Munford; one stepdaughter, Julie Brasher of Auburn; son and daughter-in-law, Brett and Marisa Parker of Trussville; one stepson, Robert and wife Lori Brasher of Munford; his mother, Shirley Parker of Gadsden; one brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Linda Parker of Gadsden; four grandchildren, JoLeigh Parker, Mallory Brasher, Riley Brasher and Cannon Brasher; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Drafahl, DeWayne Sullivan, Mickey Parker, Ricky Chatman, Joey Smith and Howard Formwalt.

JANIE MAE RANKIN

SPRINGVILLE Funeral service for Janie Mae Rankin, 84, will be Wednesday at 9 a.m. at Ridout's Trussville Chapel with the Rev. Wayne Chamness and the Rev. Danny Wise officiating. Burial will be in Springville Cemetery.

Mrs. Rankin died March 31. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Springville and was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Rankin.

She is survived by one son, James Ronald Rankin of Springville; one daughter, Betty Jane Malone of Springville; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lakeview Nursing Home, 8017 2nd Avenue South, Birmingham, Ala., 35206.

Ridout's Trussville Chapel will direct the service.

JAMES M. SKELTON

SYLACAUGA Funeral service for James M. Skelton, 81, will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Radney-Smith Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Cary Brown and the Rev. Don Graves officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Sylacauga.

Mr. Skelton died April 1 at Baptist Medical Center Montclair in Birmingham. He was married for 61 years and was a member of Russell Chapel Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He also served as a deacon at First Baptist Church of Center Point and Hilldale Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Fayetteville High School, served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member of Local 91 Plumbing and Steamfitters of Birmingham.

He is survived by his wife, Mable Landers Skelton of Fayetteville; two daughters, Jeanette Skelton Gerdes of Acworth, Ga., and Joy Skelton Graves and husband the Rev. Donald Graves of Childersburg; grandchildren, Duane Graves and wife Diane Graves of Kimberly, Daryl Graves and wife Tracie Graves of Birmingham, Jamie Gerdes Dean of Acworth, Ga., Jeffrey Gerdes and wife Kim Gerdes of Marietta, Ga., and Jennifer Gerdes of Acworth, Ga.; 10 great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Howard Hill, Pete McGrady, George Clay, B.J. Wood, Larry Deloach and Paul Churchwell.

Deacons of Russell Chapel Baptist Church and Chris Stephens will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

AILEEN THOMPSON

PELL CITY Funeral service for Aileen Thompson, 71, will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Kilgroe Funeral Home chapel in Pell City with the Rev. Paul Williams, Fitzhugh Burtham and the Rev. Bert Joyner officiating. Burial will be in Pine Forest Cemetery in Ashville.

Mrs. Thompson died March 31 at Medical Center East Hospital in Birmingham. She was a lifelong resident of St. Clair County and was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Thompson. She was a member of Pine Forest Baptist Church of Ashville.

She is survived by one daughter, Brenda Thompson of Ashville; one son, Tommy (Ann) Thompson of Memphis, Tenn.; two grandsons, Greg and Chris Thompson; one granddaughter, Leslie (John) Hershburger, all of Memphis; three sisters, Christine (Donald) McKay and Jeanette (Rich) McKay of Ashville and Mildred (Roger) Rhodes of Springville; two brothers, Bernie Simmons of Argo and Ray (Helen) Simmons of Springville; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Gerald Phillips, Steve Mize, Charles Tyles, Tom Bice, Charles Mize and Brad Stokes.

Honorary pallbearers will be Greg Thompson, Chris Thompson and John Hershburger.

Kilgroe Funeral Home in Pell City will direct the service.
