ELWOOD TERRELL BEAL

CROPWELL — Funeral service for Elwood (Ed) Terrell Beal, 88, will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Simon Peter Episcopal Church in Pell City with the Rev. Van Foreman officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham.

Mr. Beal died April 6 after a short illness. He was born Feb. 10, 1915, in Lovington, N.M. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elwood T. Beal and Corinne Magness Beal, and his wife, Velma Campbell Beal. He grew up in Dallas and Oklahoma City, where he began his career with United States Fidelity and Guaranty Company. His distinguished career lasted more than 45 years, the last 26 in Birmingham. He retired in 1980 as manager of the Birmingham District, from which he presided over all USF&G operations in the State of Alabama. He was a member of the United States Army Air Force and served as a transport pilot during World War II.

He was a member of the Rotary Club of Birmingham (past president), Vestavia Country Club (past president), and Pine Harbor Golf and Racquet Club. He was an avid golfer and was a member of the Alabama Senior Golf Association, Southeastern Senior Golf Association and Sixty Plus Golf Association (past president). He was a member of St. Simon Peter Episcopal Church where he served on the Vestry and was a member of the choir.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy Starnes Beal; children, W. Stancil Starnes (Joan) of Birmingham, Nanci Starnes Stewart (Harris Jr.) of Tuscaloosa, James H. Starnes of Birmingham; grandchildren, J.T. Thompson (Garner), Will Starnes and Amanda Starnes, all of Birmingham, Jennifer Stewart and Harris Stewart III of Tuscaloosa, Luke Starnes of Atlanta, Ga., and Maggie Rose Starnes of Birmingham; great-grandchild, William Whatley Thompson of Birmingham.

Pallbearers will be H.C. Earhart, George Passey, Bill Yahn, Meredith Lyemance, J.T. Thompson, Luke Starnes, Harris Stewart III and Will Starnes.

Honorary pallbearers will be Don Rickett, Dave Hamilton, Bob Meshad, Richard Smith, Jim Clay and Wilbur Manderson.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to St. Simon Peter Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 432, Pell City, Ala., 35125 or a favorite charity.

Kilgroe Funeral Home in Pell City will direct the service.

MAVIS LOUISE CARDEN

TALLADEGA — Funeral service for Mavis Louise Carden, 74, will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Talladega Church of Christ with Paul Powers and Gary Wyatt officiating. Burial will be in Pine Hill Memorial Park.

Mrs. Carden died April 6 at Baptist Medical Center Montclair in Birmingham. She was a native of Clay County and lived in Talladega most of her life. She was a member of Talladega Church of Christ, where she attended the Ladies Sunday School Class and worked in the nursery for many years. She was retired from Brecon Knitting Mills and was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence S. Carden.

She is survived by three sons, Donald Carden and wife Jennie of Hot Springs Village, Ark., Alan Carden and wife Rhonda of Talladega and Mark Carden of Columbiana; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Mildred Shaddix of Lineville; and three brothers, Hoyt McClellan of Talladega, Bob McClellan of Ashland and Jim McClellan of Lineville.

Pallbearers will be Stanley McClellan, Mike McClellan, Bobby Jim McClellan, Joey Brannock, Jamie Brannock and C.J. Murphy.

Deacons and elders of Talladega Church of Christ, Tuesday School workers, Butch Collier, Wayne Trammell and Ronnie Pope will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Usrey Funeral Home will direct the service.

JAMES TERRY HOWLE

ALPINE — Graveside service for James Terry Howle, 61, will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Pine Hill Memorial Park with Dr. Larry Morris officiating.

Mr. Howle died April 6 at his residence. He was a native of Cleburne County and lived in Talladega County most of his life. He was a member of Alpine Baptist Church, was retired from the U.S. Postal Service and was a member of the Rural Letter Carrier Association.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Howle of Alpine; two daughters, Melissa Howle-Dyer and Kristin Howle of Alpine; two sisters, Virginia Yocum of Gadsden and Cathy Hubert of Edmond, Okla.; one brother, Gary Howle of Munford; and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Allen Vincent, Chris Yocum, Jeff Newsome, Brian Butler, Shane Gaither and John Vincent.

Honorary pallbearers will be Adam Hubert, Lee Hubert, Brett Hubert, Brandon Hubert, William Roberson, William Taylor and employees of Alpine post office.

Usrey Funeral Home will direct the service.

IMOGENE BERTHA INGRAM

CROPWELL — Funeral service for Imogene Bertha Ingram, 74, was Monday at Kilgroe Funeral Home chapel in Pell City with the Rev. James Blair officiating. Burial was in Valley Hill Memorial.

Mrs. Ingram died April 6. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rudolph (Rudy) Ingram Sr., and was a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church.

She is survived by three sons, Rudolph Ingram Jr. and Danny Carl Ingram of Cropwell and Randy Joe Ingram of Clanton; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Kilgroe Funeral Home in Pell City directed the service.

MILDRED V. MEZICK

LINEVILLE —Funeral service for Mildred V. (Maw-Maw) Mezick, 86, was Monday at Lineville Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Colquett and Dr. Wayne Stevens officiating. Burial was in the Clay County Memory Gardens.

Mrs. Mezick died April 5 at Clay County Hospital. She was a native and lifelong resident of Clay County and was retired from Higgins Manufacturing with more than 30 years of service. She had served as a Pink Lady for the Clay County Hospital for more than 20 years and was a member of Lineville Baptist Church and the Friendly Sunday School Class. She loved her work in the church nursery, where she was affectionately known as Maw-Maw. She was preceded in death by two grandchildren, David Parris and Shelia Morris.

She is survived by her husband, Olen Mezick of Lineville; five daughters, Mozelle Rasberry of Birmingham, Doris Duke of Talladega, Joyce Price of Dallas, Texas, Mary Ann Morris of Cragford and Peggy Mezick of Lineville; four sons, Ledford Mezick of Athens, Jimmy Mezick of San Antonio, Texas, Donald Mezick of Anniston and Roger Mezick of Plano, Texas; one sister, Geneva Bowling of Oxford; two brothers, Jesse Fetner of Lineville and Ed Fetner of Ashland; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Larry Robertson, Mark Griffin, David Proctor, Jack Satterfield, Jack Smith and Matt Benefield.

The Pink Ladies of the Clay County Hospital and the Friendly Sunday School Class of Lineville Baptist Church served as honorary pallbearers.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Lineville Baptist Church.

Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland directed the service.

PEGGY RAY PATE

TALLADEGA — Funeral service for Peggy Ray Pate, 67, will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Kilgroe Funeral Home in Leeds. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Mrs. Pate died April 5.

She is survived by three sons, Alan Pate, Mark Pate and Craig Pate; brother, Ronnie Ray; and one grandchild.

Kilgroe Funeral Home in Leeds will direct the service.

SHARON DENISE PHARES

ASHLAND — Funeral service for Sharon Denise Phares, 45, will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Pleasant Hill Methodist Protestant Church with the Rev. Roger Griffith officiating. Graveside service will be Thursday at 1 p.m. in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Des Moines, Iowa.

Mrs. Phares died April 6 at Clay County Hospital. She was a native of Clay County and had lived in Des Moines, Iowa, for 26 years. She was a department manager at both Target and Wal-Mart for 15 years and a member of Pleasant Hill Methodist Protestant Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Rachel Michelle Phares and Tonya Renee Phares of Ashland; four sisters, Sara Duke of Pelham, Gayle Hamlin of Pell City, Jeanette Gates and Wanda Monroe of Ashland; four brothers, Milton Jackson, Travis Jackson and Bruce Jackson of Ashland and Harold Jackson of Bastrop, La.; and one grandson.

Pallbearers will be Paul Jackson, Jimmy Duke, Keith Jackson, Tim Jackson, Bobby Hamlin, Scotty Gates, Alan Jackson and Johnny Bryant.

The body may be viewed at the church for one hour before the service.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home until one hour before the service.

Clay County Funeral Home will direct the service.

ANNIE L. POPE

SYLACAUGA — Annie L. Pope, 73, of 212 Hightower St., died April 6 at Brookwood Medical Center in Birmingham.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Community Funeral Home.

TALLADEGA — Linda Rainey, 52, died April 6 at University Hospital in Birmingham.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Talladega Funeral Home.

LILLIE TURNER

SYLACAUGA — Lillie Turner, 79, died April 6 at Talladega Health Care Center.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Community Funeral Home.

DOROTHY B. WHEELER

HAMILTON, Ohio — Dorothy B. Wheeler, 80, died April 4 at Berkeley Square, Hamilton.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Webb Noonan Funeral Home.
