Swain

MUNFORD

Services for Savannah Swain, 64, of 638 Goodenville Road, Munford, will be announced by Terry's Metropolitan Mortuary in Talladega.

Mr. Swain died Saturday at Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center.

White

PIEDMONT

Services for Mary Estell White, 84, of Piedmont will be today at 2 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home with Revs. Larry Johnson and Ron reynolds officiating. Burial will follow in Piedmont Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends today from noon until 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. White died Saturday at Jacksonville Hospital.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Eunice and Luther Erwin and Zelma and Jack Johnson, all of Piedmont; a daughter-in-law, Pat S. White of Hinesville, Ga.; three sisters, Nadine Buttram of Centre, Christine Vines of Rome, Ga., and Inez Davis of Piedmont; two brothers, Leo Reynolds of Piedmont and E.O. Reynolds of Centre; three grandchildren, Towana Fuqua, Kathy Ballinger and Barry Johnson; three great-grandchildren, Brandi Ballinger, Gaven Ballinger and Kasey Ballinger; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Phillip Fuqua, Gaven Ballinger, Jerry Ballinger, Elwin Johnson, J.T. Smith and Kim Johnson.

Mrs. White was a native of Piedmont where she lived most of her life. She was a member of Dailey Street Baptist Church and was a homemaker and seamstress. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Thomas "J.T." White; a son, Houston Clifford "H.C." White; and a grandson, Houston Scott White.

Flowers may be sent, or memorial contributions may be made to the Piedmont Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 333, Piedmont, AL 36272.

Yarbrough

ROCK MILLS

Services for Hattie Louise Yarbrough, 92, of Rock Mills will be today at 1 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with Rev. Frank Foster officiating. Burial will follow at Rock Mills Cemetery.

Mrs. Yarbrough died Sunday, Dec. 20, at Randolph Medical Center in Roanoke.

Survivors include a sister, Lelia Mae Pool of Roanoke; two grandaughters, Delores Burgess of Roanoke and Rena Pike of Rock Mills; five great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Yarborough was a lifelong resident of Randolph County. She had been employed at Wedhadkee Mills and was a member of Rock Mills Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Lamar Yarbrough.

Services for Willene Boswell of Anniston will be announced by Ervin Funeral Chapel.
Mrs. Boswell died Wednesday at Regional Medical Center.

Clark

LINEVILLE

Services for Vernie S. Clark, 99, of Lineville will be today at 2 p.m. at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville with Revs. Donald Spradlin and Andy White officiating. Burial will be in Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends until service time at the funeral home.

Mrs. Clark died Tuesday at Cleburne County Nursing Home in Heflin.

Survivors include three daughters, Willie Kellum of Oxford, Margie Denny of Lineville and Marie Conville of Ashland; a son, Edward Clark of Hugley; a sister, Lavine Crawford of Thomasville, 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and a host of great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Gene Hodnett, Kermit Caldwell, Lester Walker, Christopher Haynes, Terry Smith and Steve North. Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of Corinth Baptist Church and employees of Cleburne County Nursing Home.

Mrs. Clark was a native and lifelong resident of Clay County. She was a homemaker and was a member of Corinth Baptist Church.

Clifford

BLUE MOUNTAIN

Services for Kenneth Samuel Clifford, 88, of Blue Mountain will be Friday at 11 a.m. at K.L. Brown Funeral Home and Crematory in Jacksonville with Dr. Deryl Wood officiating. Burial will in Post Oak Baptist Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Mr. Clifford died Wednesday at Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include his wife, Ezma Mildred Clifford of Anniston; two daughters and their husbands, Carolyn and Joel Nance of Jacksonville and Mary Jane and Steve Starley of Marietta, Ga.; three grandchildren, Joel Starley, Brent Nance and Kim May, seven great-grandchildren, and 29 nieces and 18 nephews by marriage.

Pallbearers will be Joel Nance, David May, Joel Starley, Brent Nance and Steve Starley.

Mr. Clifford was a diesel instructor in Europe, South America, Africa and Egypt for Standard Oil. After returning to the United States, he obtained a post-secondary teaching degree and taught diesel mechanics at Hobson State Vocational College and Ayers State Technical College. He later obtained an accounting degree from Gadsden State and opened a small business, Calhoun Income Tax Service for a short time. He was a volunteer with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program for several years. He was a member of Pilgrims Rest Church of Cleburne County and a World War II veteran. He was preceded in death by a grandchild, Leah Starley.

Deupree

TALLADEGA

Services for Anne Leyden Waters Deupree, 68, of Talladega will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Gray Brown-Service Mortuary and Crematory in Anniston with Dr. Billy Harris officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Mrs. Deupree died Wednesday at Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include her husband, Edwin L. Deupree of Talladega; three daughters and their husbands, Lee Anne Deupree Savage and Steven Howard Savage of Memphis, Tenn., Freda Dean Deupree Phelps and David Hall Phelps of Carmel, Ind. and Jamie Ruth Deupree Henderson and Richard Todd Henderson of Albany, Ga.; seven grandchildren, Matthew Steven Savage and his wife, Cathy, David Adam Savage, Ashley Anne Phelps, Jordan Rose Phelps, Jenna Lee Phelps, Mallory Drew Henderson and Landon Todd Henderson; and two great-grandchildren, Matthew Noah Savage and Natalee Anne Savage.

Pallbearers will be members of the 1966 Wellborn High School State Champions, Wayne Carden, Ferris Daniels, Dennis Dunaway, Butch Bishop, Robert Angles and Ricky Weems. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the 1966 Wellborn High School State Champions and the Joy Sunday School Class of Parker Memorial Baptist Church.

Mrs. Deupree was a native of Calhoun County and had lived in Talladega 14 years. She was a member of Parker Memorial Baptist Church and was retired after 20 years of teaching at Wellborn High School. She had previously taught at Mechanicsville Elementary School, Johnston Junior High School, Anniston High School and in Austell, Ga. and in Lanett.

Garrett

PIEDMONT

Services for Opal Garrett, 86, of Piedmont will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Mickelsen-McGee Brown-Service Funeral Home with Rev. Doug Matthews officiating. Burial will be in Piedmont Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Mrs. Garrett died Wednesday at Jacksonville Hospital.

Survivors include four daughters, Ilean Cox, Marie Tubbs, Sharon Bozeman and Imogene Burrows, all of Piedmont; a sister, Gladys Heard of Piedmont; two brothers, Clayton Fortenberry and Leroy Fortenberry, both of Piedmont, 13 grandchildren, Brenda Austin, Anthony Crook, Ann Jean, Lynn Thomas, Nora Hicks, Sheila Glass, Patrick Burrows, Melinda Hulsey, Jeffery Ploof, Janice Trotter, Phillip Crook, Karl Cronan and Bryan Crook, 27 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Karl Cronan, Blake Trotter, James Trotter, Dennis Austin, Randall Fortenberry and Franklin Fortenberry.

Mrs. Garrett lived in Piedmont all of her life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arberry Garrett; her parents, Whit and Claudia Fortenberry; a daughter, Helen Crook; and a grandchild, Rickey Crook.

Flowers will be accepted or donations can be made to the Piedmont Rescue Squad.

Gorse

Memorial services for Martin F. "Marty" Gorse, 78, of Anniston will be Friday at 4 p.m. at the American Legion Post 26, 515 E. 18th St., Anniston.

Mr. Gorse died Wednesday at Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include his wife, Jean Hanks Gorse; two daughters and their husbands, Dr. Mary J. Gorse and Dr. R. Eric Miller of St. Louis and Martha J. and Ralph "Ike" Jackson of Columbus, Ga.; a son and his wife, M. Frank and Holly C. Gorse Jr. of Richmond, Va.; a sister and her husband, Helen and Louis Lescanec of Oberlin, Pa.; three grandchildren, Cameron Gorse, McKay Gorse and Erin Jackson; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Gorse was a native of Bressler, Pa., and was a World War II and Korean Army veteran, having served with the Signal Corps. Between 1953 and 1963 as a Department of the Army civilian, he served as deputy post signal officer and deputy chief of logistics at Fort McClellan. Leaving in 1963, he served at Fort Monroe, Va., Presidio of San Francisco and Fort Lee, Va. and retired in 1979. He worked for Synoptic Systems Inc. until his retirement in 1990 when he returned to Anniston. He was a member of the American Legion Post 26, Veterans of Foreign War Post 924 and B.P.O.E. Lodge 189. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank R. and Mary Kocevar Gorse; and two sisters, Mary A. Maljan and Elizabeth Gaven.

The family requests no flowers. Donations can be made to the Veterans Home Trust Fund, P.O. Box 1509, Montgomery, AL 36102; the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, Grand Central Station, P.O. Box 4777, New York, NY 10163; or a favorite charity.

Hornback

BEAUFORT, S.C.

Graveside services for infant Caiden Reese Hornback of Beaufort will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Randolph Memory Gardens in Roanoke with Rev. Tex Ergle officiating and Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge. The family will receive friends two hours prior to service time at the funeral home.

The infant died Monday at Beaufort Naval Hospital.

Survivors include his parents, James and Corinna McGill Hornback of Beaufort; a brother, Camden McGill of Beaufort; a sister, Kaylin Hornback of Prattville; and his grandparents, Diane McGill Jones of Clarksville, Ga. and Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Hornback of Jeffersonville, Ind.

The infant was born in Savannah, Ga. He was preceded in death by a sister, Lynzie Hornback and his grandfather, Max McGill.

Jackson

PELL CITY

Services for Anna Jane Jackson, 88, of Pell City will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Pell City with Rev. Billy Hunt officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Baptist Cemetery. The family will receive friends 5:30-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Mrs. Jackson died at her home.

Survivors include four daughters and three sons-in-law, Betty Ann and Gordon Hannah of Wattsville, Mary Elizabeth Moody of Springville and Juanita and Garland Davis and Barbara June and Ron Johnson, all of Pell City; two brothers, Perry Castleberry of Mulga and Billy Ray Castleberry of Pell City, 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.

Honorary pallbearers will be Gordon Hannah, Garland Davis and Ron Johnson.

Mrs. Jackson was a native and lifelong resident of Pell City. She was retired from MidSouth Oil and was a member of the senior citizens club and Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.
