Lewis

Graveside services for Dorothy Lee Lewis, 58, of Anniston will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Anniston Memorial Gardens with Wayne Woods officiating and Brown and Kughn Memory Chapel in charge. The family will receive friends 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Mrs. Lewis died Thursday in Anniston.

Survivors include her husband, Bobby G. Lewis of Anniston; two sons, Scott H. Lewis of Oxford and Keith Lewis of Choccolocco; a sister, Frances Walker of Childersburg; a brother, Bobby Hamilton of Madison; and two grandchildren, Mickala Jordan Lewis and Ashleigh Brooke Lewis.

Mrs. Lewis was a native and lifelong resident of Anniston. She was a member of Rock of Ages Baptist Church and was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents, C.J. and Louise Hamilton.

Smith

TALLADEGA

Services for Gerald Eugene Smith, 54, of Talladega will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Talladega Funeral Home with Rev. W.W. Broadus and Dr. George Ricker officiating. Burial will be in Dogwood Trails Memorial Gardens in Oxford. The family will receive friends 6-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Mr. Smith died Tuesday at Baptist Medical Center-Montclair in Birmingham.

Survivors include two daughters, Stephanie Lane and Shelby Smith, both of Talladega; two sisters, Carolyn Miller of Oxford and Debbie Florence of Lake Wales, Fla.; three brothers, Larry Smith of Bridgeton, N.J. and William Smith and Timmy Smith, both of Oxford; his stepmother, Ruby Smith of Oxford, and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Alan Miller, Matthew Smith, J.C. Johnson, Mike Brady, Travis Ray and Ben Phillips.

Mr. Smith was a native of Calhoun County and had lived in Talladega 20 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Talladega and had been a pharmacist on staff at Citizens Baptist Medical Center in Talladega. He was a graduate of the Auburn University School of Pharmacy and was a member of the South Baptist Union Missionary Program at Auburn University.

Smoot

ALPINE

Services for Arthur Smoot Jr., 53, of Alpine will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at New Maryland Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Stanley Threatt officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Terry’s Metropolitan Mortuary in charge. The body will be at the church an hour prior to services.

Mr. Smoot died Monday at Citizens Baptist Medical Center.

Survivors include a daughter, Traci Stone of Talladega; three sons, Stanky Swain and Arthur Smoot III, both of Alpine and Tyrone Smoot of Norfolk, Va.; three sisters, Shirley Chapman and Carolyn Stamps, both of Talladega and Wanda Smoot of Sylacauga; three brothers, Billy Smoot of Sylacauga, Leroy Smoot of Arlington, Va. and Craig Smoot of Talladega; and seven grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Harry Joe Powell, Eddie Morris, Ulysses Jones, Oscar Morris, Jerry Wallace, Willie Wilson and James Simmons.

Mr. Smoot was a member of New Maryland Baptist Church and had attended R.R. Russa High School and Winterboro High School. He was a former employee of Crown Textiles. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Smoot Sr. and Willie Mae Chapman Smoot.

Stephens

MORROW, Ga.

Services for Mary McCain Stephens, 91, of Morrow, formerly of Clay County, will be today at 11 a.m. at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville with Dr. Jerry Herston officiating. Burial will be in Lineville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.

Mrs. Stephens died Tuesday at Henry Medical Center in Georgia.

Survivors include a son, Jimmy P. Stephens of Morrow; a brother, Charles McCain of Maryland; three grandchildren, Katherine Stephens Sims, James Randal Stephens and Jeffrey Glen Stephens, and three great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Stephens was a native of Clay County and a former resident of Fort Valley and Griffin, Ga. She had worked several years as a secretary and was a member of Ft. Valley Methodist Church.

Stone

LANSING, Mich.

Services for Herman “Bo-Hena” Stone, 81, of Lansing, formerly of Talladega, will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Bellview Baptist Church with Revs. Billy Springer and Timothy Caldwell officiating. Burial will be in Westview Cemetery with Terry’s Metropolitan Mortuary in charge. The body will be at the church an hour prior to services.

Mr. Stone died Dec. 28 at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing.

Survivors include a daughter, Millie L. Peterson of Lansing; two sons, Herman Stone Jr. of Lansing and Gene Turner of Talladega; a stepson, George Huntley of San Diego, and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Clevie Smith, Ricky Smith, Phetis Porter, Johnny Higgins, James Welch and Johnny Ray Smith.

Mr. Stone was a former employee of Talladega Country Club and Talladega College. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis Stone and Betty Ann Lawler Stone; his wife, Sara Elizabeth Stone; and a brother, Henry Stone.

Swain

MUNFORD

Services for Savannah Swain Jr., 64, of Munford will be Saturday at noon at Kelly Springs Baptist Church with Rev. L.L. Jacobs and J.W. Wren officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery with Terry’s Metropolitan Mortuary in charge. The body will be at the church an hour prior to services. The family will receive friends 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Mr. Swain died Saturday at Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include his wife, Roberta Washington Walker Swain of Munford; two daughters, Sanjeanetta Swain Battle of Birmingham and Rosie Ann Swain of Santa Maria, Calif.; four sons, Sylvester Swain of Santa Maria, Roderick Maddox Swain of Huntsville, Dexter R. Swain of Montgomery and Christopher L. Swain of Birmingham; his mother, Rosette Garrett Swain of Alpine; four sisters, Ruby S. Twyman and Cornelia Chapman, both of Chicago and Eva S. Curry and Dorothy S. Smoot, both of Alpine; four brothers, John Swain of Chicago, Zack Swain and John Albert Swain, both of Washington and Milton Swain of Alpine, and 10 grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be members of the trustee board of Kelly Springs Baptist Church.

Mr. Swain was a member of Kelly Springs Baptist Church, where he was a member of the male chorus and trustee board. He was a former assistant pastor of Freewill Church of God in Christ, a retired wood producer and a former employee of Labor Local 559. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Bettye Jean Maddox Swain, and his father, Savannah Swain Sr.

Tolbert

WEDOWEE

Services for Shirley Patillo Tolbert, 49, of Wedowee will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church in Wedowee with Rev. Tommy Ackles officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Vines Funeral Home in charge. The body will be at the church an hour prior to services.

Mrs. Tolbert died Monday at Wedowee Hospital.

Survivors include her husband, Charlie Tolbert of Wedowee; her father, Charlie Patillo of Woodland; a son, Wallace Patillo of Roanoke; a daughter, Deloise Tolbert of Woodland; a stepdaughter, Linda Young of Alexander City; a stepson, Jimmy Drummond of Wedowee; five sisters, Inell Roundtree of Pine Hill, Helen Nunn and Barbara Houston, both of Woodland, Nancy Green of Graham, and Charlie Mae Nunn of Hawk, and eight grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Tolbert was born in Randolph County and was a member of Peace and Goodwill Baptist Church in Roanoke. She was employed by Lamar Manufactures in Woodland for 23 years and later Trintex Corp. for five years.

Baker

COLUMBUS, Ga.

Services for Carroll Ann Ferrell Baker, 53, of Columbus, Ga. will be Monday at 1 p.m. at New Testament Christian Center Church with Rev. Dr. James A. Lewis, Sr. officiating. The family will receive friends 1-7 p.m. today at People's Funeral Service of Columbus, Inc.

Mrs. Baker died Wednesday at St. Francis Hospital in Columbus.

Survivors include her husband, Claude Baker of Columbus; her mother, Mary Ferrell Barkley of Anniston; two sons, Derek Ferrell and his wife, Angela, of Newport News, Va. and Benae Powell of Columbus; a daughter, Tia Baker of Columbus; a brother, Charles Ferrell and his wife, Shirley, of Anniston; a grandchild, Jujuan Burton; an uncle, Dover Ferrell and his wife, Carolyn, of Marietta, Ga.; two aunts, Gladys Elston and Hattie Dunson, both of Anniston; one nephew; two nieces; and several other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Baker was a native of Roanoke and a 1967 graduate of Cobb High School in Anniston and Talladega College. She was a member of Rising Star Chapter Number 29 and New Testament Christian Center Church. Mrs. Baker worked for Martin Army Community Hospital. She was preceded in death by her father, Osborne Thornton.

Services for Malene Cavender, 72, of Heflin will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Heflin Baptist Church. The family will receive friends 6-8:30 p.m. at Dryden Funeral Home.

Mrs. Cavender died Saturday at her residence.

Memorial services for Louise M. Hooper, 72, of Centre will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Perry Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steve Baccus officiating.

Mrs. Hooper died Saturday at Cherokee-BMC.

Survivors include three daughters, Linda Hawthorne of Leesburg; Brinda Hooper of Centre and Patricia Ann Reed of Ft. Payne; a son, Billy Wayne Hooper of Centre; a brother, H.R. McDaniel of Centre; two sisters, Shirley Kisor of Leesburg and Arlene Bolinger of Rome, Ga.; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Hooper was a native of Cherokee County, a textile worker and a Baptist. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Lee and Willie Cobb McDaniel.
