Lovvorn

GRAHAM

Services for Laverne Gidley Lovvorn, 76, of Graham will be today at 3 p.m. at Benefield Funeral Chapel with Revs. Roy Connell and Don Hensley officiating. Burial will be at Harmony Congregational Methodist Church cemetery.

Mrs. Lovvorn died Friday at Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include her son, Doug Lovvorn of Graham; three grandchildren, Jay Lovvorn and wife Tammy, Stephen Lovvorn and wife Jaime, and Paige Lovvorn; four great-grandchildren, Jaycee Lovvorn, Jake Lovvorn, Anna Blaze and Ashton Lovvorn; an aunt and uncle, Gorman and Lillian Robinson of Talladega, and an aunt, Mae Smetley of Oxford.

Pallbearers will be Jay Lovvorn, Jack Phillips, Dennis Lovvorn, Dan Brown, Stephen Lovvorn and Wayne Smith. Honorary pallbearer will be Winford Iverson.

Mrs. Lovvorn, was a native of Cleburne County and retired from the Anniston Army Depot. She was the daughter of Dave and Carrie Lovvorn Gidley.

McFry

PIEDMONT

Services for Charlene Livingston McFry, 66, of Piedmont will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Thompson Funeral Home with Rev. Bobbie Jean McCoy officiating. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery. The family will receive friends today from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. McFry died Saturday at Gadsden Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Melvin and Tressa McFry of Piedmont; a sister, Bobbie Jean McCoy of Hokes Bluff; three brothers, Melvin A. Livingston of Florida, Johnny Livingston of Chicago, Ill. and Larry Livingston of Piedmont; a granddaughter, Madison McFry of Piedmont; a niece and four nephews.

Pallbearers will be Marty McCoy, Harlon Baldwin, Wayne Livingston, Larry Garrett, Joe Harold Garrett, Ray Davis, Bobby Davis and Dewayne Maddox.

Mrs. McFry was a native and lifelong resident of the Piedmont area. She retired from Springs Industries after 45 years and was a member of the House of Prayer. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. and Mrs. R.M. Livingston.

JACKSONVILLE

Services for Herbert D. "Bobby" McMichael, 61, of Jacksonville will be announced by Gray Brown-Service Mortuary and Crematory.

Mr. McMichael died Saturday at his residence.

Parks

Ret. Lt. Col. Dorothy W. Parks, 82, died Saturday at Regional Medical Center. Chapel Hill Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Parks is survived by her brother, Charles Parks, of St. Petersburg, Fla.

Ms. Parks was a native of St. Petersburg, Fla. and Washington D.C. She had lived in Anniston 33 years and was retired from the Womens Army Corps after 28 years of service. She was a World War II veteran and a member of the Antique Vehicle Club and the Stamp Club.

Powell

GEORGIA

Services for Margaret Irene Powell, 86, of LaFayette, Ga., will be today at 3 p.m. at Perry Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Kellett officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Bethel Cemetery. The family will receive friends an hour before the service.

Miss Powell died Friday at LaFayette Health Care Center.

Survivors include her brother, G.E Powell of Murphreesboro, Tenn., and several nieces and nephews.

Miss Powell was a former missionary and was a member of Mt. Bethel Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Giles Ernest and Murden Culpepper Powell, and four brothers, Henry Powell, Russell Powell, Frank Powell and Renfroe Powell.

Russell

WEAVER

Services for LaRoy A. Russell, 87, of Weaver will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Harvest Church of God with Bishops Jerry Irwin and O.V. Sewell officiating. Burial will be in Anniston Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends today from 7:30-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Russell died Saturday at Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include his wife, Elsie Sims Russell of Weaver; two sons, LaRoy A. "Rocky" Russell Jr. and Robert Warren Russell, both of Weaver; two daughters, Gretchen Brightbill of Eastaboga and Mevlene Lynch of Saks; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; six nieces and two nephews.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Lynch, LaRoy A. "Chip" Russell III, Drew Heard, Josh Heard, Bob Brightbill and Bob Lynch. Honorary pallbearers will be employees of Russell Machine Co., Inc.

Mr. Russell was founder of Russell Machine Co., Inc. and was retired from Alabama Tool Company in Rainbow City. He was a member of Harvest Church of God and was a retired Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He received the World War II Victory medal, two bronze commendation medals, the American Defense, National Defense and American Campaign medals, the Good Conduct medal and the American Occupations and United Nations Korean medals.

Sparks

JACKSONVILLE

Services for Charles Lee Sparks, 76, of Jacksonville will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at K.L. Brown Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Daniels officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 6-8 p.m.

Mr. Sparks died Friday at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, Ga.

Survivors include his wife, Iva Sparks of Jacksonville; three daughters, Connie Kilcrease of Mississippi, Sue Phillips of Joppa, and Kim Coleman of White Plains; two sons, George Steven Sparks of Jacksonville, and Tim Sparks of Jacksonville; a sister, Earnestine Tooill of Ohio; 11 grandchildren, Stacy Stinson, Shannon Sparks, Chuck Sparks, Kevin Sparks, Shelia Gurley, Stevie Barnhill, Kelly Childers, Amy Martin, Tonya Williams, Kristal Coleman and Brittney Coleman; 13 great-grandchildren, 13 nieces and five nephews.

Pallbearers will be Kenneth Hall, Michael Martin, Randall Stinson, Michael Gurley, Josh Williams, Chuck Sparks and Kevin Sparks. Honorary pallbearers will be Rodney Phillips, Mike Coleman, Terry Kilcrease and Stevie Barnhill.

Mr. Sparks was a native of Pikeville, Ky., and lived in Calhoun County most of his life. He was a Baptist and owned Sparky's Union 76 Service Station in Jacksonville from 1963 until 1989. He was a World War II veteran of the. Merchant Marines. He was preceded in death by a son, Roger Lynn Sparks and a grandson, Timothy Shane Barnhill.

Whaley

WEDOWEE

Richard "Cowboy" Whaley, 59, of Wedowee died Friday at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika. Benefield Funeral Home of Wedowee is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 6-8 p.m.

Survivors include two daughters, Dee Dee Whaley of Wedowee and Jonia Whaley of Bowdon, Ga.; a son, William Whaley of Cragford; eight sisters, Ethel Huckeba, Lucille Whaley, Bertha Dutton, Ann Colter and Katie Harmon, all of Wedowee, Virgina Hester and Etta Jo Davis, both of Valley, and Minnie B. Leaf of Ingrum, Ga.; a brother, Leon Whaley of Roanoke, and seven grandchildren.

Brown

WELLINGTON

Services for Inez Avans Brown, 86, of Wellington will be today at 1 p.m. at Chapel Hill Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tom Curvin officiating. Burial will be in Seven Springs Cemetery. The family will receive friends 11 a.m. until service time today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Brown died Sunday at Jacksonville Hospital.

Survivors include a daughter, Carolyn Headrick of Wellington; a sister, Helen Ezell of Pensacola, Fla.; two brothers, Marvin Nunnally of Anniston and Ubby Nunnally of Oxford, two grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be David Headrick, Justin Headrick, Woodson Lloyd, Terry Lloyd, Bill Broughton, Joe McCarley, Bret Broom and George Broom.

Mrs. Brown was a native of Talladega and had lived in Calhoun County most of her life. She was retired from Blue Mountain Industries and was a member of First Baptist Church of Duke.

Brown

ASHLAND

Services for Preston P. Brown, 87, of Ashland will be today at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Ashland with Rev. Bruce Willis officiating. Burial will be in Ashland City Cemetery with Clay County Funeral Home in charge.

Mr. Brown died Sunday at Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include his wife, Burta Brown of Ashland; two sons, Donald Brown of Opelika and Jeffery Brown of Tuscaloosa; a sister, Mavis Hayes of Rainbow City; three grandchildren, Ashley Brown Guess, Clinton Brown and Shane Brown, and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Ralph Harris, Clint Brown, Shane Brown, Don Shepard, Tim Farr, Ricky Farr, Larry Fetner and Pete Phillips. Honorary pallbearers will be nieces and nephews.

Mr. Brown was a native of Talladega County, where he lived for many years. He also lived in Tuscaloosa before moving to Clay County in 1978. He was retired from Alabama Gas Company after 40 years of service and from the Army after 32 years of service. He was a veteran of both World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of the 167th Infantry Dixie Division. Mr. Brown was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Ashland.

Carter

LINCOLN

Services for Ella C. Carter, 60, of Lincoln will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Terry’s Metropolitan Mortuary in Talladega with Rev. B.E. McKinney officiating. Burial will be in Union Springs Cemetery.

Mrs. Carter died Saturday at her home.

Survivors include two sons, Michael Calhoun of Stewart, Fla. and Thomas Carter of Talladega; her parents, George Calhoun and Lillie M. Calhoun of Lincoln; five sisters, Flossie Jones, Pearl Strickland, Mae Ola Curry and Janie Smoot, all of Talladega and Everlean Denson of Anderson, Ind.; two brothers, Roosevelt Calhoun and John Milton Calhoun, both of Talladega, and five grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be nephews.

Mrs. Carter attended Talladega County Training School and was a former employee of the Alabama Institute of the Deaf and Blind. She spent most of her life in Chicago. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Carter Sr.; a sister, Sadie McClendon; and a brother, Shelley Calhoun.
