Street

PIEDMONT

Graveside services for Orville H. Street, 76, of Piedmont will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Piedmont Memory Gardens with Revs. Tommy McCoy and Hayward Clark officiating and Thompson Funeral Home in charge. The family will receive friends 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Mr. Street died Thursday at his home.

Survivors include three daughters and their husbands, Myra Dryden and John Dryden of Anniston, LaFonda Hilburn and Tommy Hilburn of Exie and Julia Llomparte Tolbert and Shane Tolbert of Piedmont; three sisters, Laris Turner and Edna Edwards, both of Gadsden and Nodie Wilson of Kentucky; five grandchildren, Matt Pace, Cale Hilburn, Nick Dryden, Joey Dryden and Andrew Robinson; and two great-grandchildren, Skyler Hilburn and Landen Hilburn.

Mr. Street was a native of Etowah County and had lived in Piedmont most of his life. He was retired from SCT Yarn after 45 years of service and was a Navy veteran. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Street; a daughter and son-in-law, Martha and Parkie Pace; and his parents and several brothers and sisters.

Sumner

ASHVILLE

Services for Carl Joseph Sumner Sr., 54, of Ashville will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Piney Grove Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Kilgroe Funeral Home in charge. The family will receive friends 6-9 tonight at the funeral home in Pell City.

Mr. Sumner died Wednesday at his home.

Survivors include his wife, Thyra Sumner; a daughter and her husband, Carla Jossett Burns and Keith Burns of Alexandria; a son and his wife, Carl Joseph “Joey” Sumner Jr. and Stacey Sumner of Ashville; his parents, Frank and Anita Sumner of Odenville; four brothers, Frankie Sumner of Odenville, Robert Sumner of Margaret, Tommy Sumner of Argo and Donald Sumner of Ashville; three grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Sumner was retired as a truck driver from M&B Metal of Leeds after 18 years of service. He was a member of Taylors Baptist Church.

Thomas

LINEVILLE

Services for Townes “Tom” Thomas, 93, of Lineville will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Bethlehem United Methodist Church with Revs. Michael Strong and Curtis Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Lineville Community Cemetery with Terry’s Metropolitan Mortuary in charge. The body will be at the church an hour prior to services.

Mr. Thomas died Sunday at his home.

Survivors include two sons, Charlie Lewis Johnson of Ford Heights, Ill. and Beotis Johnson of Lineville; a brother, Jack Johnson of Pittsburgh; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be stewards and the men’s club.

Mr. Thomas was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church, where he served as a trustee, a steward and was a member of the men’s club. He was retired from ABC Railroad after 48 years of service. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eunice Boyd Thomas; his parents, Jeff Johnson and Dee Seymore Johnson; a son, Calvester Johnson; two sisters, Vinnie Hearn and Jessie Lindsey, and a brother, Frazier Johnson.

Threatt

LINCOLN

Services for Jeffrey Threatt, 42, of Lincoln will be announced by Terry’s Metropolitan Mortuary in Talladega.

Mr. Threatt died Wednesday at University Hospital.

Whistenant

Services for Lois R. Whistenant, 92, of Anniston will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Gray Brown-Service Mortuary and Crematory. Burial will be in Edgemont Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Ms. Whistenant died Thursday at Jacksonville Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Survivors include three sisters and a brother-in-law, Velma Bragg of Ringgold, Ga. and Eva Knight, Annie Fay Dubois and Glenn Dubois, all of Anniston, and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be nephews.

Ms. Whistenant was a native of Haralson, Ga., and a was a member of Profile Baptist Church in Jacksonville.

She was retired from Union Yarn Mill in Jacksonville.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel Hampton Whistenant and Mary Lou Emma Whistenant; two brothers, Clifford Whistenant and Carl Whistenant; and two sisters, Mae Griffith and Odell Vasser.

Wright

Services for Mittie Gooden Wright, 80, of Anniston will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Willie Simmons officiating. Burial will be in Forestlawn Gardens with Ervin Funeral Chapel in charge. The body will be at the church an hour prior to services.

Mrs. Wright died Monday at her home.

Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Veronica and Don Douglas of Warrior and Nello Harris of New York; six grandchildren, Kenneth Chapman, Eric Harris, Terence Harris, Katrina Gooden, Kendall Gooden and Robert Gooden Jr.; and three great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Wright was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Wright, and a son, Robert Gooden.

Champion

CLEARWATER, Fla.

Services for Jane Stovall Champion, 76, of Clearwater, formerly of Anniston, will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Brown and Kughn Memory Chapel.

Burial will be in Forestlawn Gardens.

The family will receive friends two hours prior to service time Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Champion died Sunday in Clearwater.

Crawford

ASHLAND

Services for James Hubert Crawford, 90, of Ashland will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Sardis Baptist Church with Revs. George Sewell, Coy Powell and Tommy Young officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home of Ashland in charge. The family will receive friends 4-8 tonight and until one hour prior to service time Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Crawford died Sunday at Clay County Hospital.

Survivors include his wife, Lucille Crawford of Ashland; four daughters, Frances Brand, Katie Ann McCain and Polly Bachmann, all of Ashland and Debra Jordan of Cragford; six sons, James D. Crawford and Jimmy Crawford, both of Ashland, Terry Crawford of Millerville, Robert Crawford of Hackneyville, Joe Crawford of Mellow Valley and Roger Crawford of Daviston; a brother, Woodfin Crawford of Ashland; two sisters-in-law, Mary Crawford and Ida Crawford, both of Ashland, 30 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Bo Crawford, Don Crawford, Dale Crawford, Joey Crawford, Harvey Brand, Bobby Gibson, Cody Crawford and Chad Jordan. Honorary pallbearers will be Runt Crawford, John Crawford, Jamie Crawford, Shane Crawford, Todd Crawford, Dewayne Crawford, Wesley Jordan, Brinton Crawford, Clay Crawford, Wyatt Morris, Lee Brand, Clint Morris and Wesley Morris.

Mr. Crawford was a native and lifelong resident of Clay County. He was a wood producer, a farmer and had been employed by Bemiston of Talladega. He was a member of Mt. Moriah United Methodist Church.

FRUITHURST

Services for William Jefferson Davis Sr., 97, of Fruithurst will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Fruithurst United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends 6-8 tonight at Dryden Funeral Home in Heflin.

Mr. Davis died Monday at Beverly Health Care Center in Oxford.

Graveside services for Mary Opal Day, 86, of Oxford will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Oxford Memorial Gardens with Rev. David Gilmore officiating and Miller Funeral Home in charge. The family will receive friends 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Mrs. Day died Sunday at Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include three daughters and a son-in-law, Janice and Perry Gardner and Johnette Day, all of Oxford and Phyllis Day of Cropwell; a sister, Nellie Simmons of Andalusia; eight grandchildren, Cathy Franklin, Carol Pike, Alan Gardner, Brian Gardner, Brent Sonier, Brandon Sonier, Sherry Hurt and Johnny Hurt, and 12 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be family members.

Mrs. Day was a member of First Baptist Church of Oxford. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Day, and a daughter, Mary Nell Day Hurt.

Fahrenbach

TOMBALL, Texas

Memorial services for Winnie Fahrenbach, 91, of Tomball, Texas, formerly of Anniston, will be held in Tomball and interment will be at Highland Cemetery at a time to be announced.

Mrs. Fahrenbach died Jan. 30 in Tomball.

Survivors include a daughter Jeri Cherry of Tomball; a son, Chuck Fahrenbach of Oakland, Calif.; a son-in-law, J. Michael Cherry of Luanda, Angola; a nephew, W. Jackson Kettles of Anniston; and a granddaughter, Katherine Cherry.

A native of Anniston, Mrs. Fahrenbach was a graduate of Anniston High School and Anniston Business School.

She had been employed by Brownings Clothing and a loan business. She owned and operated Calhoun Credit until 1959 when she and her husband, Bryant, bought Hollingsworth Furniture located at 10th Street and Gurnee Avenue. It was later relocated to 1501 Noble St.

She was a member of the First Christian Church, Greenbrier Baptist Church, and the Anniston Business and Professional Women’s Club, which she served as president during World War II.

She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years and, in retirement, was an active member of the Pink Ladies at Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center as well as more recently volunteering for the Friends of the Library book sales in Tomball. Mrs. Fahrenbach also funded the Sandra Voth scholarship at Anniston High School for a number of years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bryant Fahrenbach; a daughter, Sandra Voth and two brothers, Roy A. “Heavy” Warner Jackson and Ray Kettles.
