Herren

NEWELL

Services for Eva Mae Herren, 81, of Newell will be today at 1 p.m. at Harmony Congregational Methodist Church with Revs. Roy Connell and Bobby Jones officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home of Wedowee in charge. The body will be at the church an hour prior to services. The family will receive friends until one hour prior to service time today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Herren died Thursday at Lineville Nursing Facility.

Survivors include a daughter, Sheila Fincher of Woodland; two sons, James C. Herren of Centre and Fred Herren of Newell; two sisters, Susie Huff of LaGrange, Ga. and Pearl Driver of Georgia, 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Brandon Fincher, Randall McCloud, David Hodnett and Josh Horn.

Mrs. Herren was a native of Carroll County, Ga., and was the daughter of the late George Merrell and Drucilla Smith Merrell. She was a housewife and a member of Harmony Congregational Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernice Herren.

Herring

PIEDMONT

Services for Doyle Miller Herring, 76, of Piedmont will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Piedmont Highway Church of God with Rev. Leon Crauswell officiating. Burial will be in Midway Baptist Church Cemetery with Thompson Funeral Home in charge. The body will be at the church an hour prior to services. The family will receive friends 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Mr. Herring died Friday at his home.

Survivors include his wife, Clara Mae Herring of Piedmont; three daughters and a son-in-law, Janice and Fain McFry, Patty Weber and Teresa Kay Herring, all of Piedmont; four sisters, Thelma Smith of Hokes Bluff, Leona Langston of Piedmont and Wilma Firestone and Gaynell Herring, both of Gadsden; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Ocel and Josephine Herring of Muscle Shoals, Jeff “Buck” and Judy Herring of Jacksonville, Jerry and Norma Herring of Boaz and Len and Martha Herring of Piedmont; six grandchildren, Melissa Acker, Scotty McFry, Christopher McFry, Terry Roach, Justin Roach and Darrin McGatha; and three great-grandchildren, Emily Acker, Paige Acker and Cobey McFry.

Pallbearers will be Victor Herring, Michael Herring, Donald Harcrow, Harold Smith, Charles Crane and Eddie Herring.

Mr. Herring was a native of Etowah County, where he lived most of his life. He attended Piedmont Highway Church of God. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jess and Lelia Herring; a sister, Clara Mae Herring; and two brothers, David Herring and Edward Herring.

Hogan

PIEDMONT

Services for Ethel Amelia Hogan, 77, of Piedmont will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Dryden Funeral Home in Heflin. The family will receive friends 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Mrs. Hogan died Friday at Regional Medical Center.

Jones

Services for Maurice Jones, 78, of Anniston, formerly of Lincoln, will be today at 1 p.m. at Cave Springs Baptist Church with Rev. James Tarrance officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Anniston Funeral Service in charge. The body will be at the church an hour prior to services.

Mr. Jones died Jan. 31 at Riverview Regional Medical Center in Gadsden.

Survivors include five sons, Dwight Jones of Detroit, Randy Jones of Gadsden, Clyde Jones of Utica, N.Y., Antonio White of Taylor, Texas and Maurice White of Fort Hood, Texas; a sister, Della Valentine of Detroit; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be deacons, officers and friends.

Mr. Jones was a member and a deacon of Cave Springs Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Willie Jean Jones.

Frances Chitwood Turner dies at 82

EASTABOGA
Services for Frances Chitwood Turner, 82, of Eastaboga will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Craig Memorial United Methodist Church in Eastaboga with Revs. John Thomas Shaddix and Jeff Lyles officiating. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery in Talladega with Gray Brown-Service Mortuary and Crematory in charge. The family will receive friends 6-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Mrs. Turner died Sunday at Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Don and Jeri Turner of Eastpoint, Fla., and Mike and Connie Turner of Lincoln; two grandsons and their wives, Donald and Lisa Turner of Wellington and Chris and Tammy Turner of Goodwater; two great-grandsons, Neal and Andrew Turner; a brother and his wife, Worley and Marjorie Chitwood of Seale; and a former daughter-in-law, Becky Willis, and her husband, Larry.

Pallbearers will be Chris Turner, Ronnie Turner, Jake Cobb Jr., Perry Smith, Dick Smith, Bob Chitwood, Jimmy Howard and Chippy Turner. Honorary pallbearers will be Harvey Camp, Billy Chitwood, W.E. Dabbs, Charles Montgomery, Jim Pace, Keith Ramsden, Bill Reid and the Clara Cowden Sunday School Class.

Mrs. Turner was a member of Craig Memorial United Methodist Church in Eastaboga. She was UMYF counselor and Sunday school teacher for more than 30 years. Currently, she taught the Clara Cowden Sunday School Class, served as secretary of the Administrative Council, was an officer in United Methodist Women, sang in the choir, and taught a Bible study each week. She was active in the Anniston District and the North Alabama Conference of the United Methodist Church.

She was a leader in many charitable organizations throughout Calhoun County. Some of them include: the Salvation Army Advisory Board, the Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary, the Opportunity Center, Parents Anonymous, Cottaquilla Council of the Girls Scouts, the Altrusa Club and the Easter Seals State Board. She was a member of the East Alabama United Cerebral Palsy Center Board of Directors and looked forward to working at the CP telethon each August. She was recognized with many awards for her service and devotion to these agencies. Her love for these groups and their cause was infectious and has spread to friends and family members. She was a very positive person. The word “no” was not in her vocabulary. She seemed to have endless energy when it came to her family, church work, and volunteer organiza-tions.

“She will be greatly missed,” said Linda Johns, executive director of the East Alabama United Cerebral Palsy Center. There was no like Miss Frances. She did whatever needed to be done.

Mrs. Turner was nominated for Alabama Mother of the Year and was voted first runner up. Of course, to her family, she was always mother of the year.

She was employed for 40 years by the late J.F. King. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred J. Turner Jr., and a grandson, Jason Turner.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions can be made to Craig Memorial United Methodist Church or any of the above organizations.

Services for Dessie Mae Barnette, 80, of Oxford will be announced by Gray Brown-Service Mortuary and Crematory.

Mrs. Barnette died Thursday at Stringfellow Memorial Hospital.

Bledsoe

ROANOKE

Services for Cathy Ann Bledsoe, 41, of Roanoke will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church in Five Points with Revs. Charlie Carlisle and L.B. Houston officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Clark Memorial Funeral Service in charge. The body will be at the church an hour prior to services. The family will receive friends 1-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Bledsoe died Wednesday at Florence Hand Home in LaGrange, Ga.

Survivors include her mother, Catherine Bledsoe of Roanoke; two sons, James Bledsoe and Corey Henderson, both of Roanoke; a daughter, Kathy Bledsoe of Roanoke; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Frank and Rose Rhodes of Cape Cod, Mass., Thurman Bledsoe of Roanoke and Kenneth and Lorna Bledsoe of Atlanta; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Ida and Odell Alexander and Myra and Eric Reynolds, all of Roanoke, and Gwendolyn Watts of Stanford, Conn.; three uncles, Al Sanford of Stanford and Raymond Sanford and Gerry Sanford, both of Cape Cod; and five aunts, Betty McCulley of Stanford, Margaret Sanford of California, Georgia King of Nashville, Tenn. and Beverly Sanford and Mary Ann Sanford, both of Cape Cod.

Dye

TALLADEGA

Services for Walter Casey Dye, 72, of Talladega will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Midway Memory Gardens Funeral Home with Glis Cribb officiating. Burial will be in Midway Memory Gardens with full military honors. The family will receive friends 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Mr. Dye died Wednesday at his home.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara J. Dye of Talladega; three sons, Alan Wayne Dye of Talladega, Ronnie Gene Dye of Sylacauga and James Michael Dye of Old Hickory, Tenn.; two sisters, Thelma Thrasher and Dorothy Jurgens of Birmingham; a brother, James O. Dye of Talladega; 15 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be members of the Air Force Honor Guard.

Mr. Dye was a native and lifelong resident of Talladega. He retired from the Air Force after 20 years of service. He was retired from Palm Beach Co., and was a member of Talladega Creek Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by three brothers, William C. Dye, W. Howard Dye and Winmon Clinton Dye.

Services for John Forney Landers, 75, of Anniston will be Saturday at 3 p.m. (CST) at Rainwater and West Funeral Home in Bowdon, Ga. with Rev. John Hunter officiating. Burial will be in Bowdon City Cemetery. The family will receive friends 5-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Mr. Landers died Tuesday at National Health Care.

Survivors include his wife, Vecoy Fowler Landers of Anniston; a daughter, Dr. Sharon Fowler Cruze of Las Vegas, Nev.; and a sister, Glenda Hester of Birmingham.

Pallbearers will be Norman Ward, Jacob Cruze, Tad Brandle, Vernon Stephens, Wayne Hester and Jimmy Edwards. Honorary pallbearers will be Blake Parker, Jack Herren, Willard Albright, Troy Fowler and Oswald Hanson.

Mr. Landers was a native of Randolph County and was the son of the late John Forney and Addie McLeod Landers. He was the retired owner of Landers Lamp Company and was a World War II Navy veteran. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Anniston.

Leonard

ALPINE

Services for Hugh “Nick” Leonard, 75, of Alpine will be Saturday at noon at Corinth Baptist Church with Rev. Anthony Dykes officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Terry’s Metropolitan Mortuary in charge. The body will be at the church an hour prior to services.

Mr. Leonard died Saturday at his home.

Survivors include two sisters, Velma Wilson of Winterboro and Pauline Moon of Buffalo, N.Y.; and a brother, Alex Leonard of Alpine.

Pallbearers will be nephews.

Mr. Leonard was a member of Corinth Baptist Church and attended Sycamore School. He was retired from Floyd and Beasley Transfer Company after 48 years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Leonard and Partina Bryant Player; a sister, Bessie Booker; and a brother, Johnny Funderburg.
