McKenzie

TALLADEGA

Services for Lula Mae Washington McKenzie, 90, of Talladega will be Saturday at noon at Sims Funeral Service with Rev. George Armstrong officiating. Burial will be in Talladega Memorial Garden.

Mrs. McKenzie died Sunday at her home.

Survivors include four sisters-in-law, Thelma Washington and Betty Sue McKenzie, both of Detroit and Izola Stockdale and Brenda McKenzie, both of Talladega; and two brothers-in-law, Larry McKenzie and Harry McKenzie, both of Talladega.

Monroe

Services for Emma Jenada Monroe, 52, of Anniston will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Oak Ridge Baptist Church with Rev. T. Jackson officiating. Burial will be in Eden Hills Cemetery with Anniston Funeral Service in charge. The body will at the church an hour prior to services.

Miss Monroe died Monday at UAB Hospital.

Survivors include three sons, James C. Monroe of Hobson City, Dexter L. Monroe of New Jersey and Xavier Pierre Monroe of Anniston; her father, Doines Monroe of Hobson City; a sister, Denise Echols of Anniston; three brothers, Paul Anthony Monroe of Anniston, Doines Monroe Jr. of Brooklyn, N.Y. and Dennis Monroe of Hobson City; seven grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Miss Monroe was a member of New Immanuel Baptist Church and had worked as a private nurse.

GADSDEN

Services for Ada Morgan, 88, of Gadsden will be announced by Perry Funeral Home in Centre.

Mrs. Morgan died Thursday at Gadsden Health Care.

Morton

Services for Grady W. Morton, 83, of Anniston will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Anniston Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Anniston Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the chapel.

Mr. Morton died Thursday.

Survivors include his wife, Lois Morton; a daughter, Sandra Phillips; and four grandchildren, Dale Bowman, Alan Bowman, Brian Bowman and Mike Phillips.

Mr. Morton was retired from Werthleimer Bay Co. and was one of the original members of the High Neighbor Quartet. He was a member of Palmerdale Methodist Church.

Paris

CULLMAN

Services for Cordelia Melissa Paris, 78, of Cullman will be today at 11 a.m. at Simcoe Baptist Church in Cullman with Jimmy Baker officiating. Burial will be in Simcoe Methodist Cemetery with Williams-McCracken Funeral Home in charge. The body will be at the church an hour prior to services.

Mrs. Paris died Wednesday at Woodland Hospital.

Survivors include her husband, John David Paris of Cullman; five sons and daughters-in-law, Lewis and Shelby Paris, Johnnie and Sharron Paris, Leroy and Francis Paris, Jerry and Jo Ann Paris, all of Cullman and Bennie and Sharron Paris of Nashville, Ga.; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Deeda Paris of Wauchule, Fla. and Sandra and Tim Swearingen and Mary and William Criscoe, all of Cullman; a sister, Myrtle Brand of Michigan; two brothers, Luther Brand of Oxford and Arnold Brand of Ashland; 22 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Paris was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents, Green Oscar Brand and Rhoda Lee Brand; and two sons, Alfred Lee Paris and John David Paris Jr.

Phillips

Services for Ellen Mindy Phillips, 90, of Anniston will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Gray Brown-Service Mortuary and Crematory with Rev. Larry Carpenter officiating. Burial will be in Forestlawn Gardens. The family will receive friends 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Mrs. Phillips died Thursday at Jacksonville Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Curtis and Nancy Phillips of Anniston; two brothers, Lonnie Bolt of Oregon and Robert L. Bolt of Oxford; and two grandchildren, Sharon Brimer and Aaron Phillips.

Pallbearers will be Aaron Phillips and Jimmy Brimer.

Mrs. Phillips was a native of Randolph County and had lived in Calhoun County most of her life. She was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cleave Phillips, and a son, Billy Ray Phillips.

Pope

PIEDMONT

Services for Effie M. Pope, 93, of Piedmont will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Mickelsen-McGee Funeral Home with Rev. Russell Tierce officiating. Burial will be in Union Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Mrs. Pope died Thursday at Jacksonville Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Survivors include two daughters, Mavis Gowens of Spring Garden and Farris Badgett of Piedmont; three sisters, Minnie Lee Sanders, Novie Sanders and Essie Hogan, all of Georgia; a brother, Earl Molock of Rock Run; and five grandchildren, Wayne Gowens, Gary Gowens, Mary Jo Hinson, Hugh Alan Badgett and Carl Pope.

Pallbearers will be Gary Gowens, Brent Kiser, Fred Rhinehart, Chris Tierce, Frank Molock and Teddy Pope.

Mrs. Pope was a member of Rock Run Baptist Church and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Almer Pope; two daughters, Betty Jean Snider and Margeret Forbus; and two grandchildren, Pam Snider and Lois Forbus Jr.

Flowers will be accepted or donations can be made to Rock Run Baptist Church.

Savage

PIEDMONT

Services for Mary L. Savage, 81, of Piedmont will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church with Rev. Derek Smith officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery with Thompson Funeral Home in charge. The body will be at the church an hour prior to services. The family will receive friends 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Mrs. Savage died Wednesday at Jacksonville Hospital.

Survivors include two sons, Jim Savage and Johnny Savage, both of Huntsville; five grandchildren, Julie Casper, Jeff Savage, Jason Savage, Josh Savage and Joe Savage; and two great-grandchildren, Jacob Casper and Jericho Casper.

Mrs. Savage had lived in Piedmont since 1945 and was retired from the Piedmont City School System. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe L. Savage and a son, Jerry Savage.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Piedmont Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 333, Piedmont, AL 36272.

Smith

IRON CITY

Services for Samuel N. Smith, 83, of Iron City will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Miller Funeral Home in Oxford with Rev. Danny Jeffers officiating. Burial will be in Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends 5-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Mr. Smith died Wednesday at Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include a daughter, Karen Johnson of Iron City; five sons and four daughters-in-law, Gerald and Evelyn Smith and Gary and Bonnie Smith, all of Eastaboga, Donald and Loyal Smith of Coldwater, Sammy and Mary Smith of Alexandria and Robin Smith of Iron City; two stepchildren, Howard Williams and Eva McCullar; three sisters, Ovelle McComb of Oxford, Jewel Turner of Heflin and Mary Jeffers of Anniston; a brother, Frank Smith of Oxford; four grandchildren, Sonya Smith, Shelly Gauldin, Russell Smith and Cameron Smith; three great-grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren.

Mr. Smith was a Baptist and was retired from L.A. Draper and Son. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Smith; a son, Ray Smith; and a daughter, Sandra Smith.

Suttle

Services for Oliver J. “Plug” Suttle Jr., 70, of Anniston will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Q. Woods officiating. Burial will be in Eden Hills Cemetery with Anniston Funeral Service in charge. The body will be at the church an hour prior to services.

Mr. Suttle died Sunday at Stringfellow Memorial Hospital.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Louvenia Suttle; two daughters, Sherrie F. Miller of Gadsden and Augustine Miller of Lawton, Okla.; six sons, Larry Evans and Oliver D. Gaston, both of Lincoln, Darryl R. Gaston, Larryl J. Gaston and Joel J. Suttle, all of Anniston and Ervin Evans of Washington D.C.; a sister, Elnora Leavy of Detroit; two brothers, Raymond Suttle of Los Angeles and Alex Suttle of Florence; 22 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Mr. Suttle was retired from FMC and was preceded in death by a son, Oliver Sims.

Tillery

CENTRE

Services for Cynthia Denise Tillery, 42, of Centre will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Perry Funeral Home with Rev. Talmadge Laughlin officiating. Burial will be in Cherokee Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Mrs. Tillery died Wednesday in Rome, Ga.

Survivors include two daughters, Natasha Durham of Leesburg and Tiffany Tillery of Centre; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles (Sam) Wood of Centre; a brother, Randall Wood of Forney; a sister, Paula Woodring of Rome; and a grandchild, Samantha Paige Weeks.

Mrs. Tillery was a native of Etowah County and was a 1977 graduate of Cherokee County High School. She was employed by Sara Lee Bakery in Rome, Ga.
