Services for Mattie Sue Watson, 81, of Roanoke will be today at 1 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Home with Rev. Gerald Sheppard officiating. Burial will be in Knight Cemetery in Wadley.

Mrs. Watson died Wednesday at Randolph Medical Center.

Survivors include a daughter, Catherine Anglin of Rock Mills; two sons, James D. Watson and Arthur Watson, both of Roanoke; a sister, Lula Sheppard of Roanoke; a brother, Herman Edmondson of Roanoke; 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Billy W. Watson, Jimmy Watson, Delbert Watson, Adam Watson, Billy C. Watson and Johnny Anglin.

A lifelong Roanoke resident, Mrs. Watson was the daughter of the late John and Florence Perry Edmondson. She was a member of Welcome Home Baptist Church and had been employed by Handley Mills. She was preceded in death by her husband, Olif Watson, and a son, John Wayne Watson.

Memorial services for Curtis B. Wright, 47, of Anniston will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Ervin Funeral Chapel with Rev. George T. Bates officiating.

Mr. Wright died Monday at Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include three sisters, Thelma Wright and Henrietta Wright, both of Anniston and Lizetta Archie of Atlanta; and three brothers, William O. Thomas and Rufus Wright, both of Atlanta and Richard E. Carpenter of Los Angeles.

Mr. Wright was preceded in death by his parents, Thelma Carpenter Wright and Rufus Wright; and a sister, Ida Mae Carpenter.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association or the Alabama Organ Center.

Services for Dessie Mae Burdette, 80, of Oxford will be Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Gray Brown-Service Mortuary and Crematory with Brooks Boyd officiating. Burial will be in Edgemont Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time Sunday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Burdette died Thursday at Stringfellow Memorial Hospital.

Survivors include her husband, J.D. Burdette of Oxford; two grandchildren, Jeffery Slick and Blake Fain; and a great-grandchild, Brody Slick.

Pallbearers will be Jeffery Slick, Blake Fain, Billy Daughtery, Lee Daughtery, Charles Dollahite and Clarence Brimer.

Mrs. Burdette was a member of Oxford Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Denise Slick Fain; an infant son, Larry; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H.E. Backus; a sister, Flora Flemming; and a brother, Roscoe Backus.

Graveside services for Billy J. Burns, 65, of Anniston will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Anniston Memorial Gardens with Rev. Carlton Weathers officiating and Chapel Hill Funeral Home and Crematory in charge. The family will receive friends 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Mr. Burns died Thursday at Baptist Medical Center-Montclair in Birmingham.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Burgess Burns of Anniston; two daughters and sons-in-law, Melinda and Scotty Diggs and Christy and David Shirley, all of Anniston; a son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Janis Burns of Anniston; three sisters, Edna Wade of Anniston and Nan Phillips and Grace Burns, both of Alexandria; a brother, Grady Burns of Alexandria; and four grandchildren, Lacey Diggs, Branna Burns, Hunter Burns and Jonathan Shirley.

Pallbearers will be Ray Creel, Joel Nance, Michael Reaves, Mark Brown, Otha Hamm, Robert Yaikow, William Mahaffey and David Rexrode.

Mr. Burns was a native of Calhoun County and a resident of Saks. He was retired from Alabama Coca-Cola Bottling Company after 33 years of service and from Jacksonville State University. He was preceded in death by his parents, Burt and Maude Burns; and two sisters, Johnnie Whiteside and Myrtle Burns.

Graveside services for Barbara Ann Johnson, 64, of Anniston will be Sunday at 1 p.m. at Hebron Baptist Cemetery with Rev. James Cohorn officiating and Gray Brown-Service Mortuary and Crematory in charge. The family will receive friends 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Mrs. Johnson died Friday at her home.

Survivors include her husband, James H. Johnson of Anniston; a son, Steven Watkins of Fayette; two sisters, Lurline Jones of Eastaboga and Dean Lewallen of Anniston; two brothers, Wayne Lewallen and Wallace Lewallen, both of Talladega; and three grandchildren, Brittany Watkins, Dalton Watkins and Kerri Watkins.

Mrs. Johnson was a native and lifelong resident of Calhoun County. She was a member of Leatherwood Baptist Church and was employed by Anniston Sportswear.

Services for James Frank McGill, 77, of Wadley will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Wadley First United Methodist Church with Revs. Phillip Gore and Abigail Carlisle-Wilke officiating. Burial will be in Wadley Cemetery with Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge. The body will be at the church an hour prior to services. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. today at the funeral home and the family will be there 5-8 tonight.

Mr. McGill died Thursday at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Blake McGill of Wadley; two daughters, Peggy McGill Noles and Audette McGill Waldrep, both of Wadley; two sons, James F. “Sonny” McGill Jr. of LaFayette and Phillip Blake McGill of Wadley; a sister, Agnes McGill Nunn of Wadley; two brothers, Donnie Noel McGill of Devol, Okla. and David Larry McGill of Wadley; 18 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jeremy McGill, Jared McGill, Jon McGill, Brian Waldrep, Aaron Waldrep, Brent Noles, Skyler Noles, Coby Noles and Ebb Noles. Honorary pallbearers will be Tammy McGill, Kim Holmes, Amanda Belcher, Jan Nye, Josie Sims, Jenissa Jordon, Jamie Evans, Jayla Noles and Leah House.

A lifelong Wadley resident, Mr. McGill was the son of the late Ruben A. and Mozell Noel McGill. He was a World War II Navy veteran and was a member of Wadley First United Methodist Church. He had been employed by Plantation Patterns and was preceded in death by a brother, Karon Max McGill.

Services for Emma Jenada Monroe, 52, of Anniston will be today at 1 p.m. at Oak Ridge Baptist Church with Rev. George Lauderdale officiating. Burial will be in Eden Hills Cemetery with Anniston Funeral Service in charge. The body will be at the church an hour prior to services.

Miss Monroe died Monday at UAB Hospital.

Services for Charlie Pate Turner, 91, of Woodland will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Union Chapel United Methodist Church in Wedowee with Rev. Lawrence Watts officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Silmon Mortuary in charge. The body will be at the church an hour prior to services. The family will receive friends noon to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mr. Turner died Thursday at Wedowee Hospital.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Turner of Woodland; three daughters, Mae Dale and LaVerne Dotson, both of Atlanta and Queen Wright of Wedowee; four sons, James W. Turner of Cincinnati, Ohio, Harold Turner of Denver, Colo. and Marvin Turner and David Turner, both of Woodland; two brothers, Weldon Turner of Los Angeles and Howard Turner of Wedowee; 23 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mr. Turner was preceded in death by his parents, James W. Turner and Mentoria Smith Turner; and a daughter, Naomi Clark.

Services for Calvin Wells, 78, of Weaver will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at K.L. Brown Funeral Home and Crematory in Jacksonville with Rev. Keith Merritt officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Mr. Wells died Friday at his home.

Survivors include his wife, Jean P. Wells of Weaver; two daughters and a son-in-law, Patti and David Dotherow of Winter Park, Fla. and LeAnne Andrews of Weaver; a son and his wife, William Thomas and Brenda Wells of Anniston; a brother, Leo Wells of Weaver; five grandchildren, Amy Summers, Trey Andrews, Allison Andrews, Chris Abbott and Katie Wells; three great-grandchildren, Mason Summers, Lane Housand and Ashley Andrews; three nieces and five nephews.

Pallbearers will be David Dotherow, Curt Bowles Jr., Trey Andrews, Drew Housand, Tim Wells and Ralph Vaughn. Honorary pallbearers will be Vaughn Morris, Marion Johnson, Glenn Comer, Jimmy Vaughn and Andy Nelson.

Mr. Wells was retired from Anniston Army Depot. He was a member of Chosea Springs Church Historical Committee and Hiram Lodge 42 F&AM. He was a Methodist. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Gussie Wells; two brothers, Paul Wells and Hoyt Wells; and two sisters, Helen Morris and Carolyn Hudson.

Flowers will be accepted or donations can be made to Weaver Congregational Methodist Church Building Fund, 916 Alexandria Road, Weaver, AL 36277.
