Patzschke

JACKSONVILLE

Services for Karl Wesley Patzschke, 58, of Jacksonville will be Monday at 6 p.m. at K.L. Brown Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. James Robertson officiating. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mr. Patzschke died Friday at Regional Medical Center.

Ponder

OXFORD

Services for Charlie S. “Pete” Ponder, 85, of Oxford will be today at 2 p.m. at Brown and Kughn Memory Chapel with Rev. Mike Owens officiating. Burial will be in Forestlawn Gardens.

Mr. Ponder died Thursday at his home.

Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Jeanelle Ponder Hammonds and Brownie Hammonds of Alexandria and Wanda Ponder Birchfield and Billy Birchfield of Oxford; a son and his wife, Buddy and Syndi Ponder of Lincoln; two sisters, Shirley Turner of Oxford and Ann Milam of Winter Garden, Fla.; two brothers, Dewey Ponder of Birmingham and Robert Ponder of Oxford; and six grandchildren, Greg Clark, Shawn Clark, Cory Hammonds, Cassie Hammonds, Josh McDaniel and Kaila McDaniel.

Pallbearers will be Greg Clark, Shawn Clark, Cory Hammonds, Josh McDaniel, Scott Nelson and Don Birchfield. Honorary pallbearers will be granddaughters, nieces, nephews and the Hospice of East Alabama.

Mr. Ponder was a native and lifelong resident of Calhoun County. He served in the Army during World War II from 1941 to 1945 as a sergeant and squad leader in the infantry. He received a Good Conduct Medal and a Ribbon with Bronze Star. He received commendation while serving in New Guinea for saving a fellow soldier from drowning and received an honorable discharge in 1945. He was retired from Anniston Army Depot after 35 years of service. He was awarded a 50-year pin for membership with Masonic Lodge 700 of Anniston, and was a member of West Anniston Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bettie R. Ponder; his parents, Robert L. and Mary Elizabeth Ponder; a sister, Myrtle Little; and three brothers, Howard Ponder, Worth Ponder and Joe Ponder.

JACKSONVILLE

Services for Louvenda B. Rochester, 86, of Jacksonville will be Monday at 11 a.m. at K.L. Brown Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will be in Jacksonville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Rochester died Friday at Jacksonville Hospital.

Russell

Services for Samuel Earl Russell, 44, of Anniston will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Mt. Olive Seventh Day Adventist with Gary Collins officiating. Burial will be in Eden Hills Cemetery with Anniston Funeral Service in charge. The body will be at the church an hour prior to services.

Mr. Russell died Monday at Carraway Methodist Medical Center in Birmingham.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Russell; 20 children, Marie Hughley and Shekita Hughley, both of Gadsden, Carl Hughley of Riverdale, Ga., Latrisha Russell Wilson, and Katrina Hughley, Samuel Russell Jr., Gladys Russell, Lattisha Russell, Sharike Russell, Kimberly Russell, Antoin Russell, Jermaine Stevenson, Toni Stevenson, Zipporah Stevenson, Keith Grady, Kelsey Johnson, Nicholas Johnson, Kevin Johnson and Jessica Garrett, all of Anniston, and Ella Russell Patterson of Munford; his parents, Winston Lanier and Gladys Weathers, both of Anniston; seven sisters, Cherita Weathers, Shalika Weathers Finley, Carolyn Weathers, Alice Russell, Vanessa Tijus and Lisa Jackson, all of Anniston and JoAnn Weathers Turner of Birmingham; three brothers, Joseph Weathers, Eugene Weathers Jr. and Anthony Russell; and 38 grandchildren.

Mr. Russell served as an elder in the church and was a Marine Corps veteran.

Sanford

PIEDMONT

Memorial services for Mary Franklin Sanford, 84, of Piedmont will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Hughes Street Congregational Holiness Church with Rev. Hayward Clark officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time Monday at the church.

Mrs. Sanford died Friday at Jacksonville Hospital.

Survivors include a daughter, Sallie Sanford of Anniston; two sons and their wives, Jerry and Betty Rogers of Anniston and Larry and Brenda Rogers of Albertville; a son-law, Larry Rutherford of Atlanta; a brother and two sisters-in-law, Howard and Sidney Franklin and Myrtle Franklin, all of Piedmont; three sisters, Lois Freeman of Piedmont, Lucille Cross of Birmingham and Ruth Grant of Albany, Ga.; four grandchildren, Vickie Chambers, Jon Rogers, Shannon Guess and Jeremy Rogers; a stepgrandchild, Debra Eady; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Sanford was a native of Calhoun County and had lived in Piedmont most of her life. She attended Hughes Street Congregational Holiness Church and was a member of the Dailey Street Neighborhood Club. She was a volunteer at Southside Elementary School and Piedmont Nursing Home. She was a resident of Piedmont Health Care Center for three years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Sanford; a daughter, Ann Rutherford; a son, Terry Rogers; a brother, Lewis Franklin; and her parents, John Henry and Sallie Franklin.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the Piedmont Health Care Center, 30 Roundtree Drive, Piedmont, AL 36272.

Davis

ALEXANDER CITY

Services for G.W. Davis, 85, of Alexander City, formerly of Wadley, will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with the Revs. S.T. Janney and Abigail Carlisle-Wilke officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Hill Church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Quattlebaum Funeral Home in Roanoke today from 5-8 p.m.

Mr. Davis died Saturday at Russell Medical Center in Alexander City.

Survivors include his wife, Lou L. Siggers Davis; two daughters, Larue Meadows of Trussville and Martha Campel of Greenwich, Conn.; two sons, Jimmy J. Davis of Crestview, Fla., and Bobby G. Davis of Greenville, S.C.; a sister, Sarah Newesome of Piedmont; a brother, Gordan Davis of Talladega; eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

Mr. Davis was a Randolph County native, the son of Joe and Odessa Tucker Davis. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Methodist Church and was a self-employed builder.

Mathews

Services for Marion Kitchens Mathews, 89, of Anniston will be Monday at 2 p.m. at B. Locke Davis Christian Life Center Chapel of Parker Memorial Baptist Church with Dr. Billy L. Harris officiating. Burial will be in Crestwood Cemetery in Gadsden with Gray Brown-Service Mortuary and Crematory in charge. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at the B. Locke Davis Christian Life Center Chapel.

Mrs. Mathews died Saturday at Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include her husband, A.S. "Sut" Mathews of Anniston; a son, John H. Kitchens Jr., of Safford; a sister, Lois McCully of Selma; and two grandchildren, Anna Kitchens of Montgomery and John H. Kitchens III of Safford.

Her nephews will be pallbearers.

Mrs. Mathews was a Selma native and had lived in Anniston 20 years. She was a retired medical technician and a member of Parker Memorial Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her first husband, John H. Kitchens of Gadsden.

TALLAPOOSA, Ga.

Services for Carolyn R. Miller, 80, of Tallapoosa will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Tallapoosa First Baptist Church with Miller Funeral Home of Tallapoosa in charge. Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery. The family will receive friends today from 5-9 p.m. at the funeral home, and the body will be at the church an hour prior to the service Monday. Complete arrangements will be announced by the funeral home.

Services for Bobby Franklin Mobbs, 67, of Gaylesville will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Perry Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Sanford DeBerry and Terry Hawkins officiating. Burial will be in Lawrence Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 6-8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Mobbs died Saturday at the Birmingham Veterans Hospital.

Survivors include a sister, Billie Sue Mobbs of Gaylesville; four brothers, Thomas C. Mobbs and Cardon Mobbs, both of Gaylesville, Roger Mobbs of Woodstock, Ga., and Charles Mobbs of Marietta, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Mobbs was a native of Cherokee County and was a member of Gaylesville Baptist Church. He was a Navy veteran and an employee of Northwest Georgia Regional Hospital. He was preceded in death by his parents, Felix and Lillian Loveless Mobbs and by a sister, Carolyn Richardson.

Mr. Patzschke died Friday at Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Patzschke, of Jacksonville; three daughters, Teresa Fay Turner and Ron Turner of Jacksonville, Kathy Holliman of Jacksonville and Corrina Weaver and her husband, Ralph Weaver, of Anniston; three sisters, Myra Clinton of Sierra Vista, Ariz., Rose Call of Fair Oaks, Ind., and Meryle Patzschke of Rensselaer, Ind.; three brothers, Wayne Patzschke of Rensselaer, Ind., Darwin Patzschke of Hendersonville, Tenn., and Bruce Patzschke of Indiana; seven grandchildren, Lilly Holliman, Karl Holliman, Jonathan Mahan, Benjamin Mahan, David Weaver, and Daniel Turner; 15 nieces, and 10 nephews.

Mr. Patzschke had lived in Jacksonville 32 years. He was retired from the Army after 20 years of service. He had served in Vietnam, Panama, the South Pacific and Germany and was retired from Noble Army Hospital at Fort McClellan. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Jacksonville, Hiram Lodge 42 F&AM and the Elizabeth Spearman Chapter 21 O.E.S. He was a 32nd degree Mason with the Scottish Rite Bodies and the Zamora Temple Shrine. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jo Ann Mahan, his parents, John and Lulu Patzschke and two brothers, J.C. Myron and LeRoy Patzschke.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Children's Hospital, 1600 7th Avenue South, Birmingham, AL 35233, or to a favorite charity.

Survivors include a sister, Donie Mae Braggs of Collinsville, Okla.; a brother, Early Bragg of Jacksonville; four nieces and 11 nephews.

Pallbearers will be her nephews, Curtis Rochester, Gary Burch, Mack Fair, Randal Burch, Michael Wilbanks and Greg Wilbanks.

Mrs. Rochester was a native and lifelong resident of Calhoun County. She was retired from Blue Mountain Industries and was a member of Congregational Holiness Church.
