Garrett

TALLADEGA

Services for Barbara Ann Duncan Garrett, 50, of Talladega will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Africa Missionary Baptist Church with Dr. William Threatt officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Sims Funeral Service in charge. The body will be at the church an hour prior to services.

Mrs. Garrett died April 25 at Baptist Medical Center-Montclair in Birmingham.

Survivors include three daughters, Pamela Pope of Sylacauga, Agnes Barber of Sycamore and Brandie Fomby of Talladega; two sons, Deshawn Garrett of Talladega and James Garrett of Winterboro; six sisters, Mary McKenzie, Louise Morris, Elizabeth Whiteside, Annie Harmon, Mary Garrett and Agnes Barber, all of Talladega; four brothers, William Duncan and Alonzo Duncan, both of Winterboro, Matthew Duncan of Alpine and Alfonzo Duncan of Goodwater; two stepsisters, Fannie Mae Twymon and Tabitha Garrett, both of Talladega; a stepbrother, David Garrett of Talladega; and nine grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be the Winterboro “Dawgs” men’s softball team.

Hathorn

Services for Virginia Salvo Hathorn, 83, of Anniston will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Brown and Kughn Memory Chapel with Dr. Billy Harris officiating. Burial will be in Forestlawn Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.

Mrs. Hathorn died Wednesday in Talladega.

Survivors include her primary caregivers, a niece and her husband, Geraldine Dear Heptinstall and Ed Heptinstall of Talladega; 12 nieces, Nancy Salvo McDaniel and Frances Burgess Hill, both of Mountain Brook, Ruby Burgess Askew of Birmingham, Betty Salvo Hall of Poway, Calif., Barbara Salvo Lord of Tuscaloosa, Marjorie Salvo Hardy of Anniston, Joyce Salvo Burford of Ohatchee, Alice Salvo Martin of Glencoe, Barbara Salvo Feenstra and Mary Salvo Roberts, both of Weaver, Shirley Salvo Freeman of Oxford and Richardine Salvo Patterson of Decatur; nine nephews, Billy Joe Salvo of Fort Worth, Texas, Wayne Allen Salvo of Bellevue, Neb., Douglas Monroe Salvo, David Neil Salvo of Charleston, S.C., Robert Lewis Salvo and William Charles Salvo of Anniston, Lee Edward Salvo of Jackson, S.C., Lloyd Allen Dear of Birmingham and James Eugene Salvo of Mississippi.

Mrs. Hathorn was a native and lifelong resident of Calhoun County. She was a member of Parker Memorial Baptist Church. Before retiring, she was the office clerk at Classe Ribbon Corp. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Hathorn.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Parker Memorial Baptist Church, 1205 Quintard Ave., Anniston, AL 36201; or the American Cancer Society of Alabama, 1100 Ireland Way, Birmingham, AL 35205.

JACKSONVILLE

Services for Edward Carrel Hill, 84, of Jacksonville will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at West Side Baptist Church with Rev. Truman Norred officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens with K.L. Brown Funeral Home and Crematory in charge. The body will be at the church an hour prior to services. The family will receive friends 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Mr. Hill died Thursday at Regional Medical Center.

Flowers will be accepted or donations can be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 1022, Anniston, AL 36202.

Johnson

ASHLAND

Services for Lucy Lee Johnson, 89, of Ashland will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Clay County Funeral Home with Revs. Tim Tipton and Kenneth Fuller officiating. Burial will be in Macedonia Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends after 6 tonight at the funeral home.

Mrs. Johnson died Thursday at Clay County Hospital.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Lavone and Janice Johnson of Gadsden; a sister, Sarah Harrington of Barfield; two grandchildren, Jason Johnson and Heather Johnson; and two great-grandchildren, Summer Johnson and Alyssa Johnson.

Pallbearers will be Hubert Hallman, Jason Johnson, Roger Harrington, Larry Brown, James McDonald and Jeffrey Carpenter.

Mrs. Johnson was native and lifelong resident of Clay County. She was retired from Higgins Manufacturing Co., and was a homemaker. She was a member of Shiloh Volunteer Fire Department and Shiloh Baptist Church.

Lahnert

MUNFORD

Services for Hellon Lahnert, 68, of Munford will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Miller Funeral Home in Oxford with Rev. Mike Foreman officiating. Burial will be in Munford Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Mrs. Lahnert died Thursday at her home.

Survivors include her husband, Howard Lahnert of Munford; two daughters and a son-in-law, Cindy and Donnie Maddox and Penny Davis, all of Munford; four grandchildren, Deric Maddox, Amanda Maddox, Marissa Davis and Sabrina Davis; four brothers and their wives, George and Louella Bryant Jr., Edward and Shirley Bryant of Anniston, Jack Bryant of Munford and James and Linda Bryant of Roanoke; two sisters and their husbands, Inez and Charlie Adams of Roanoke and Martha and Jack Hyde of Munford; and a brother-in-law, Roy Blankenship of Munford.

Pallbearers will be Barry Hyde, Larry Hyde, Tony Owen, Ricky Blankenship, Randy Blankenship, Mike Bryant and Mark Brown.

Mrs. Lahnert was a native of Clay County and had lived in Munford most of her life. She was a member of Munford Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, George Bryant Sr. and Grace Suggs Bryant; and two sisters, Mary Brooks and Melba Blankenship.

Mitchell

Services for Richard Alan Mitchell, 63, of Anniston will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Gray Brown-Service Mortuary and Crematory. Burial will be in Anniston Memorial Gardens with full military honors. The family will receive friends 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Mr. Mitchell died Wednesday at Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Mitchell of Anniston; four daughters, Edna Michelle Mitchell of DeArmanville and Brigitte Mitchell, Penny Mitchell and Shelia Mitchell, all of Florida; three sons, Ross Martinec “Marty” Mitchell of Weaver and Alan Mitchell and Harvey Mitchell, both of Florida; two sisters, Audrey Mellott of Butler, Pa. and Kathleen Snyder of New Paris, Pa.; a brother, Lewis Mitchell of New Paris; and 13 grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be military.

Mr. Mitchell was a native of New Paris, Pa., and had lived in Anniston since 1979. He was a Baptist. He served in the Air Force and Army, where he retired. He was awarded the Purple Heart and was a lifelong member of the VFW. He was a member of the Alpha Lima CB Club. He served two tours in Vietnam, two tours in Korea and four tours in Germany. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edna Victoria Mitchell and Charles Dewey Mitchell; and a brother, Raymond Mitchell.

Sharpe

Services for Melinda C. Moore Sharpe, 71, of Anniston will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at First Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. O.E. Webb officiating. Burial will be in Eden Hills Cemetery with Anniston Funeral Service in charge. The body will be at the church an hour prior to services.

Mrs. Sharpe died Tuesday at National Health Care.

Survivors include two daughters, Susie Moore Peoples and Segarna Moore Brown, both of Anniston; a son, Robert C. Moore of Anniston; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Sharpe was preceded in death by her parents.

GADSDEN

Graveside services for G.W. “Pete” Smith, 78, of Gadsden will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Elmwood Cemetery with Ridout’s Elmwood Chapel in charge.

Mr. Smith died Thursday.

Survivors include his wife, Lillian M. Smith of Gadsden; two daughters and their husbands, Jan and John Dyer of Southside and Sharon and R.J. Hronek of North Carolina; two sisters, Sylvia Watson and Laverne Stark, both of Texas; four grandchildren, Rebecca Faulkner, Scott Dyer, Elizabeth Hronek and Matthew Hronek; and a great-grandchild, Micah Faulkner.

Mr. Smith was a member of Ohatchee Church of Christ.

The family requests memorials be made to the Ohatchee Church of Christ Building Fund.

JACKSONVILLE

Services for Willia M. Ward, 58, of Jacksonville will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Miracle Revival Temple with Pastor Walter Carr officiating. Burial will be in Forestlawn Gardens with Ervin Funeral Chapel in charge. The body will be at the church an hour prior to services.

Mrs. Ward died Monday at Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include her husband, retired Army Master Sgt. Charles D. Ward Jr. of Jacksonville; a daughter, Tabitha Ward of Jacksonville; two sons, Gregory L. Harris and Emmanuel L. Ward, both of Jacksonville; two sisters, Mary C. Moore of Jacksonville and Christine Walton of Atlanta; two brothers, William Knox of Anniston and Eulis Knox of Maryland; and a grandchild, Alexander Harris.

Pallbearers will be men of Miracle Revival Temple.

Mrs. Ward was a founding member of Miracle Revival Temple. She attended Oral Roberts University.
