Clements

OPELIKA

Graveside services for John Virgil Clements, 75, of Opelika, formerly of Anniston, will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery with Rev. Mitch Watts officiating and Striffler-Hamby Mortuary in charge. The family will receive friends 6-8 tonight at the funeral home in Phenix City.

Mr. Clements died Monday at his home.

Survivors include his wife, Ernestine Johnson Clements of Opelika; a daughter and her husband, Gail and Al Greer of Box Springs, Ga.; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Dennis Clements of Seale and Hugh and Barbara Clements of Crawford; a brother, Milton Clements of Sylvester, Ga.; two sisters, Imogene Gunter of Statesboro, Ga. and Betty Sue Page of Titusville, Fla.; a daughter-in-law, Vicki Clements of Indiana; 10 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Clements was born in Tift County, Ga., and was the son of the late Rachael Marchamp Clements and John William Clements. He was a Navy veteran and was a retired Civil Service engineer. He was preceded in death by a son, Allan Boyd Clements, and a half brother, George Thomas Spillars.

Hurley

WEDOWEE

Services for Lexa Ann Pool Hurley, 89, of Wedowee will be today at 2 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with Rev. Don Paris officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home of Wedowee in charge. The body will be at the church an hour prior to services. The family will receive friends until one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.

Mrs. Hurley died Monday at Traylor Nursing Home in Roanoke.

Survivors include three daughters, Letha Rice of Wedowee, Loretta Smith of Carrollton, Ga., and Pat Holmes of Ridgeland, S.C.; two sons, James Hurley of Roanoke and John Hurley of Delta; a sister, Dettie Bailey of Wedowee; 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Harold Rice Jr., James H. Hurley III, Steve Smith, Christopher Smith, Chuck Hurley and Lee Holmes. Honorary pallbearers will be George McCoy, Kevin Adams, Shane Rasbury and Dexter Graben.

Mrs. Hurley was a native of Randolph County and the daughter of John Hiram Pool and Letha Marinda Overton Pool. She had been employed as a seamstress and was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Hurley.

Palmore

PIEDMONT

Services for Willie J. Palmore, 70, of Piedmont will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Thankful Baptist Church in Piedmont with Revs. Bobby Palmore Sr. and Joe Palmore officiating. Burial will be in Piedmont Memory Gardens with Ervin Funeral Chapel in charge. The body will be at the church two hours prior to services.

Mr. Palmore died Saturday at Gadsden Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include his wife, Ruthie Mae Palmore of Piedmont; two sons, Bobby Palmore Sr. of Fairfield and Joe Palmore of Houston, Texas; four sisters, Betty Palmore and Jewell Harris, both of Middleton, Ohio, Mary Jo Baldwin of Franklin, Ohio and Oretha Gensler of San Diego, Calif.; three brothers, Arthur G. Palmore of Weaver, Cothell Palmore of Richmond, Calif. and Miles N. Palmore of Piedmont; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Mr. Palmore was a member of Thankful Baptist Church. He was an Air Force veteran and was retired from M&H Valve.

Pope

BATON ROUGE, La.

Services for Rodney Glenn “Ronnie” Pope, 42, of Baton Rouge, formerly of Alabama, will be Thursday at noon at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East in Baton Rouge with Rev. Bennett Mullins officiating. Burial will be in Port Hudson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends 5-9 tonight at the funeral home, and the body will be at the funeral home two hours prior to service time.

Mr. Pope died Monday at his home.

Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Rebecca Ann and Thomas Cousin of Gonzales, La. and Jennifer Ann Pope of Baton Rouge; his mother and stepfather, Gloria Ann Mullins and William A. Mullins Sr. of Baton Rouge; his father, William A. Pope of St. Louis, Mo.; a sister, Gwendolyn Pope of Walker, La.; a brother, Kenneth R. Pope of Baton Rouge; a stepsister, Gwendolyn O’Quin of Baton Rouge; two stepbrothers, William A. Mullins Jr. of Broussard, La. and John W. Mullins of Morse, La.; a grandchild, Jared Allen Jones; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins in Anniston.

Mr. Pope was a carpenter and woodworker. He was an Army veteran and a Mason.

Price

Services for Robert M. “Bobby” Price Jr., 71, of Anniston will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Brown and Kughn Memory Chapel with Dr. Billy Harris officiating. Burial will be in Forestlawn Gardens. The family will receive friends 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Mr. Price died Monday in Anniston.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, LaNita and Stan Bennett of Anniston; two sons and their wives, Thomas C. and Carla Price of Anniston and Kenneth R. and Dana Price of Birmingham; two stepdaughters, Dyann Diamond of Atlanta and Bethann Sohail of Clearwater, Fla.; five grandchildren, Ryan Price, Lauren Price, Nicholas Price, Lindsay Price and J.R. Price; and three stepgrandchildren, Mat Diamond, Adam Sohail and Shaan Sohail.

Pallbearers will be Harvey Campbell, Mike Stedham, Jerry Smith, Ryan Price, Nicholas Price, Lindsay Price, Grady Woodall and Frank DePietro. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Giddens, Russ Slay, Alfred Caro and members of the Anniston Emergency and Rescue Squad Inc.

A native of Tennessee and a resident of Calhoun County most of his life, Mr. Price worked for WDNG for three decades, beginning in 1959 as assistant station manager. He also was in charge of sales. He was partly responsible for the success the station had in sales, according to J.J. Dark, the station’s current general manager. “He was well-known by advertisers, and the advertisers bought from him, and him only,” Dark said. Mr. Price and Tom Potts were responsible for making the station a local news station.

He was a founding member of the Anniston Emergency and Rescue Squad Inc. in 1958, when Anniston became the site of the first chartered rescue squad in the state of Alabama. He was a board member of the United Cerebral Palsy Foundation.

He retired in management of radio with WDNG, Alabama 100, and South 107. He was the former owner of Paw Paw’s Grocery. He was a member of the National Broadcaster Association and Parker Memorial Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Marquardt.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Anniston Emergency and Rescue Squad Inc., P.O. Reed

STANFORD, Ky.

Services for Paul Calvin Reed, 77, of Stanford will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Fox Funeral Home in Stanford with Stewart Dawson officiating. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery. The family will receive friends 10 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home.

Mr. Reed died Monday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville, Ky.

Survivors include his wife, Connie Rollins Reed of Stanford; a daughter, Patricia Reed Ammons of Oxford; two sisters, Mae Fletcher and Gladys Reed Naylor, both of Stanford; and a grandchild, Chelsie Reed Ammons.

Mr. Reed was a native of New Salem, Ky., and the retired owner of Reed Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning. He attended First Baptist Church in Richmond, Ky., and was a member of Lincoln Lodge 60 F&AM and the Eastern Star. He was a Shriner and a World War II Navy veteran. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer Reed and Florence Bastin Reed; and a brother, Dallas Reed.

Robinson

SAND ROCK

Services for Rev. Edward D. Robinson, 92, of Sand Rock will be today at 11 a.m. at Perry Funeral Home in Centre with Revs. Larry Johnson and Waylon Smalley officiating. Burial will be in New Bethel Cemetery.

Mr. Robinson died Monday at Cherokee Baptist Medical Center.

Survivors include a son, Judson Robinson of Sand Rock; a daughter, Wanda Bearden of Albertville; five grandchildren, Mike Bearden, Steve Bearden, Scott Tolleson, Joseph Robinson and Jason Robinson; and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Earl Houser, Mike Dutton, George Cagle, Wayne Lindsey, J.L. Bowman and Dewitt Cox.

Mr. Robinson was a native of Cherokee County and the son of the late George and Daisey Bedwell Robinson. He was retired from Goodyear, a member of New Bethel Baptist Church, and a Mason.

Sherrer

SYLACAUGA

Services for Henry Clay Sherrer, 87, of Sylacauga will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Oaks Chapel Baptist Church in Clay County with Rev. Charles Stone officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home of Ashland in charge. The family will receive friends 4:30-8 tonight and until one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.

Mr. Sherrer died Tuesday at his home.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Hughes Sherrer of Sylacauga; two daughters, Virginia Sherrer and Anita Crouch, both of Alexander City; a son, Guy Sherrer of Gainesville, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Edith Williams of Sharpesburg, Ga.; a stepson, Samuel D. Roberson of Sylacauga; two sisters, Jocie Shirley and Glenda Thornton, both of Hackneyville; two brothers, Minus Sherrer of Hackneyville and J.G. Sherrer of Springville; and three grandchildren.

Mr. Sherrer was a native of Clay County and a former resident of Alexander City. He returned to Clay County in 1975, and he and his wife served as Pentecostal evangelists for several years. He had been employed as a driver with Roughton Trucking and was an Army veteran. He was a member of Hackneyville Baptist Church.

Stockdale

Services for Tilda Stockdale, 66, of Anniston will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Anniston Funeral Service with Rev. Lynn Westbrooks officiating. Burial will be in Sunlight Cemetery in Eastaboga. The body will be at the chapel an hour prior to services.

Mrs. Stockdale died Sunday at Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include her husband, James Stockdale of Anniston; two daughters, Billie Pilot and Vanessa Durham, both of Anniston; a son, Elton Pilot of Anniston; two brothers, Willie Pilot of Anniston and Samuel Pilot of Buffalo, N.Y.; a sister-in-law, Opal Pilot of Anniston; three grandchildren, Kimberly Tyus, Shaun Pilot and Porsha Noah; and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Rodriques Tyus, Shaun Pilot, Cavaris Hunt, Awderan Fitten, Tristan Fitten and Julius Fitten.

Mrs. Stockdale was a lifelong resident of Anniston and a member of Grace Lutheran Church.

Wright

OHATCHEE

Services for John Harold Wright Jr., 49, of Ohatchee will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Collier-Butler Funeral Home in Gadsden. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery in Brooksville. The family will receive friends 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mr. Wright died Monday.

Survivors include a son, Charles Eugene Wright; a brother and his wife, Thomas and Jennifer Wright; a special cousin, Lisa Wright Borden; and numerous other cousins and relatives.

Pallbearers will be John Ashley, Jeremy Smith, Jimmy Birch, Eric Barnwell, Greg Duke and Bruce Copeland. Honorary pallbearers will be Tony York, friends and family.

Mr. Wright was a native of Gadsden and had lived in Ohatchee the last years of his life. He was an Army veteran and was employed by Sunny King Ford for many years. He was preceded in death by a son, John Thomas Wright; and his parents, Gwendolyn Shelton Wright and John Harold Wright.
