Services for Oscar Chatman Sr., 82, of Alpine will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. George Armstrong officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Terry’s Metropolitan Mortuary in charge. The body will be at the church an hour prior to services.

Mr. Chatman died Sunday at St. Clair Regional Hospital in Pell City.

Survivors include five daughters, Beatrice Bell, Peggy Booth and Ollie Chatman, all of Chicago, Bernice Carter of Anniston and Clementine Sillmon of Alpine; a son, Jimmie Chatman of Alpine; a sister, Mary Ann Keith of Chicago; four brothers, John Chatman and Alonzo Chatman, both of Alpine and Freddie Chatman and Roman Chatman, both of Chicago; 16 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jammie Stockdale, Patrice Chatman, Willie Sillmon Jr., Adrian Sillmon, Andre Allen and Jeffery Reed. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Antioch Lodge 58A of the Free and Accepted Masons.

Mr. Chatman was a life member of Labor Local 559 and was retired from J.M. Foster Construction Company. He was a member and deacon of Bethel Baptist Church and a member of Antioch Lodge 58A of the Free and Accepted Masons. He was preceded in death by his wife, Vinnie Reynolds Chatman; his parents, Zebedee Chatman and Ollie Jones Chatman; a daughter, Bobbie Chatman; and two sons, Oscar Chatman Jr. and Felix Zebedee Chatman.

Memorial services for Mary Patricia Christopherson, 84, of Lineville will be held later at St. Joseph’s Church in Peru, Ill. Burial will be in Sheridan Cemetery in Sheridan, Ill. Benefield Funeral Home of Lineville is in charge.

Mrs. Christopherson died Wednesday at Clay County Hospital in Ashland.

Survivors include a daughter, Karin Christopherson of Lineville; a son, Chris Christopherson of Oak Park, Ill.; two sisters, Helen Olsen and Muriel Seraso, both of Greenwich, Conn.; and a grandchild, Emily Ryan Christopherson.

Mrs. Christopherson was a native of Greenwich, Conn., a former resident of Chicago and had lived in Peru, Ill., most of her life. She had lived in Alabama since 1994 and had been a school teacher with the Spring Valley Public School System. She was a graduate of the University of Illinois in Spring Valley, Ill. and Valpariso University in Valpariso, Ind., where she received two master’s degrees. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

The family requests no flowers. Memorial contributions can be made to the Randolph County High School Math Department or the charity of your choice.

Private memorial services were recently held for James Thomas Davenport, 58, of Clanton with Anniston Memorial Funeral Home in charge.

Mr. Davenport died Monday at the Veterans’ Hospital in Birmingham.

Survivors include three sons, Erin G. Davenport of Weaver, Eric W. Davenport of Silverdale, Wash. and Michael P. Davenport of Clanton; and two brothers, Charles Davenport of Golden Springs and Robert Davenport of Madison.

Mr. Davenport served two tours of duty in Vietnam while in the Navy and was a member of the Confederate Air Force.

Graveside services for Bessie Inez Reidinger Dill, 100, of Anniston will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Highland Cemetery with Rev. Buddy Nelson officiating and Gray Brown-Service Mortuary and Crematory in charge.

Mrs. Dill died Wednesday at Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include a son and his wife, James Lamar and Mary Nelle Dill of Anniston; four grandchildren, Lark Dill Howell, James Lamar Dill Jr., Cyndi Coleman Gerard and Arlin Edward Coleman Jr.; and five great-grandchildren, Ben Howell, Lauren Howell, Ashley Gerard, Anna Gerard and James Lamar Dill III.

Pallbearers will be James Lamar Dill Jr., Arlin Edward Coleman Jr., Dr. Joe Howell, Tommy Garrard, Jack Sims and Tommy Cronan.

Mrs. Dill was born in Weaver, which had been named for her ancestors. She was the sole survivor of nine brothers and sisters. A native and lifelong resident of Calhoun County, Mrs. Dill had been a member of First Baptist Church of Anniston since 1923. She was a member of the Women’s Civic Club, LaFlora Garden Club, the Anniston Federation of Garden Clubs, and the Order of the Eastern Star. She served as treasurer of Anniston Electric Co. for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Guy Dill, and a daughter, Helen Dill Coleman.

Memorials can be made to First Baptist Church of Anniston or a favorite charity.

Services for Mae Hurst Freeman, 93, of Talladega will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Usrey Funeral Home with Revs. Glis Cribb, Roger Young and Pat Hurst officiating. Graveside services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Manning’s Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery in Lineville. The family will receive friends 6-9 tonight at the funeral home and from 1-2 p.m. Saturday at the church.

Mrs. Freeman died Wednesday at Citizens Baptist Medical Center.

Survivors include a daughter, Naomi Herd of Talladega; three sons, C.B. Freeman and Billy Joe Freeman, both of Talladega and Lynn Freeman of Evans, Wash.; 27 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren, 44 great-great-grandchildren and a great-great-great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be grandsons.

Mrs. Freeman was a native of Clay County and had lived in Talladega most of her life. She was a member of Central Baptist Church and had been a housewife. She was preceded in death by her husband, Burrell Freeman, and a daughter, Peggy Jean Caldwell.

Services for Robert Louis Hamilton, 30, of Anniston will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Miller Funeral Home in Oxford with Revs. Jerry Willingham and Finley Holbrook officiating. Burial will be in Anniston Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends 5-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Mr. Hamilton died Wednesday at UAB Hospital in Birmingham.

Survivors include his wife, Tammy Hamilton; his father, Louis Hamilton of Oxford; his mother and her husband, Tina and Lonnie Surrett of Ohatchee; a stepdaughter, Felicia McCrelles; a brother, Randy Hamilton of Ohatchee; two stepbrothers, Tracy Surrett of Steele and Jerry Surrett of Florida; and his grandmother, Vivian Poe of Anniston.

Pallbearers will be Michael McCrelles, Justin McCormick, Tracy Surrett, Todd Owens, Jeremy Poe and Randy Holder.

Mr. Hamilton attended Walter Wellborn High School.

Services for Jesse Sanford Hardegree, 82, of Talladega will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in Talladega with Revs. Joe Higginbotham and Doug Hemphill officiating. Burial will be in Pine Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 6-8 tonight at Usrey Funeral Home.

Mr. Hardegree died Thursday at Baptist Medical Center in Birmingham.

Survivors include his wife, Lottie W. Hardegree of Talladega; two daughters and a son-in-law, Sandra H. and James Burns of Columbus, Ga., and Dianne D. Bishop of Montgomery; a son and his wife, John S. and Cathy Hardegree of Talladega; a sister, Evelyn Briggs of Florence; four grandchildren, Cynthia Lyles, Steven Bishop, Celeste Burns and Cheryl L. Burns; and a great-grandchild, Sophie Johnson.

Pallbearers will be Bob Priest, Bill Morrow, Sid Sharply, John Parker and Theo Strickland. Honorary pallbearers will be employees of Alabama Power Co. and members of the Lions Club of Alabama.

Mr. Hardegree was born in Goodwater to the late Rebecca Amelia Carroll and Hugh Darrell Hardegree. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church since 1960, where he was chairman of the administrative board for two years and a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class. He was a member of the Alabama Lions Club for 50 years, was past president of the Goodwater and Anniston clubs, and had been district governor in 1972. He was a sales supervisor with Alabama Power from 1944-1982.

Services for Irene Meharg Stenmoe, 85, of Oxford will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Gray Brown-Service Mortuary and Crematory. Burial will be in Forestlawn Gardens. The family will receive friends 6-8 Saturday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Stenmoe died Thursday at Jacksonville Heath and Rehabilitation Center.

Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Stenmoe Henselee of Luling, Texas; a son, Charles K. Stenmoe of Weaver; two brothers, G.C. Meharg of Macon, Ga., and Armand W. Meharg of Huntsville; five grandchildren, Tara Stenmoe Brooks, Tyler Stenmoe, Joyce Barnes, Cindy Miller and Christina Gans; and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Tyler Stenmoe, Kevin Brooks, Thomas Murray Jr., Tommy Stovall, Brian Stovall and Bill Smith.

Mrs. Stenmoe was a longtime Oxford resident and a member of Trinity Baptist Church. She was a seamstress, a Sunday school teacher and received her teaching certification from Jacksonville State University. She retired from Turner Dairy, where she had worked as bookkeeper, and was preceded in death by her husband, retired Maj. Clarence S. Stenmoe.

Services for Elizabeth Sweat Tatum, 82, of Talladega will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Usrey Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Gandy officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Mrs. Tatum died Thursday at Talladega Health Care Center.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Fran Tatum Wiginton and Dan Wiginton of Talladega; a sister, Frances Sweat Upchurch of Talladega; a sister-in-law, Barbara Sweat of Talladega; three grandchildren and their spouses, Keith and Robyn Little, Eric Wiginton and Wes and Jeannie Wiginton; two great-grandchildren, Anna Claire Little and Austin Wiginton; a niece, Mary Beth Upchurch Thompson; and several other nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Pallbearers will be Keith Little, Eric Wiginton, Wes Wiginton, Hubert Wiginton, Richard Sweat and Cecil Parks.

Mrs. Tatum was a native and lifelong resident of Talladega. She was a 1938 graduate of Talladega High School and was retired from Michael Supply Company. A docent for Heritage Hall Museum, she was a member of First United Methodist Church of Talladega. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard Merrell Sweat and A.W. Sweat and his wife, Burt; and a brother-in-law, Joseph W. Upchurch.

Services for Gerald Lynn Benefield, 59, of Atlanta will be today at 11 a.m. at Dryden Funeral Home in Heflin with Homer Benefield and Claude Willis officiating. Burial will be in Macedonia Baptist Cemetery.

Mr. Benefield died Sunday at his home.

Survivors include his mother, Irene Benefield of Heflin; five sisters and four brothers-in-law, Vanita and Dennis Bailey and Jean and Ralph Hadden, all of Commerce, Ga., Kathy Brand of Helen, Ga., Carol and Leonard Sanders of Heflin and Gail and David Stallings of Marietta, Ga.; a brother and his wife, Terry and Diane Benefield of Heflin; five nieces and four nephews.

Pallbearers will be Carey Bailey, Ralph Hadden, David Stallings III, David Stallings Jr., David Tanner and Doug Whitfield.

Mr. Benefield was a native of Cleburne County and had lived in Atlanta most of his life. He was an Air Force veteran and an employee of General Motors in Doraville, Ga. for 37 years. He was preceded in death by his father, Royce Benefield, and a nephew, Michael Tanner.
