Perry

CENTRE

Services for Dorothy Lee Caine “Mama Dot” Perry, 94, of Centre will be today at 7 p.m. at Perry Funeral Home with Revs. Joe Higginbotham and Sammy Stabler officiating. Burial will follow at Cherokee Memory Garden. The family will receive friends for two hours prior to services.

Mrs. Perry died Saturday at Cherokee County Nursing Home.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Peggy Perry; one brother-in-law and his wife, Lewis and Eilun Perry of Centre; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Caine of Anniston and Muriel Perry of California; three grandsons and their wives, Barton and Joy Perry, Bob and Jennifer Perry and Ken and Kim Perry; five great-grandchildren, Dorothy Blair Perry, Colin Barton Perry, Trevor Riley Perry, Emily Elizabeth Perry and Kendal Leigh Perry and several nieces and nephews;.

Honorary pallbearers will be past and present employees of Perry Funeral home, members of Eastern Star, R.G. and Webb Lyons.

Mrs. Perry was a native of Jacksonville and the daughter of the late John Randolph and Sarah Emily Black Caine. She was a member of the Centre First United Methodist Church, and a charter member of the Cherokee Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Perry was a graduate of Jacksonville High School and Jacksonville State Normal School. She was preceded in death by her husband, Riley O. Perry; two sisters and three brothers.

Skipper

WELLINGTON

Graveside services for Larry Dale Skipper, 48, of Wellington will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Young’s Chapel Cemetery with Rev. Michael Yates officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 12-1 p.m. at K.L. Brown Funeral Home and Crematory.

Mr. Skipper died Saturday at his home.

Survivors include his wife, Rita Skipper of Wellington; his mother and stepfather, Maurice Suie and Woodrow Johnson of Gadsden; one daughter and son-in-law, Tina Gail and Johnny McIntyre of Wellington; two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard Dale and Deborah Skipper of Glencoe and Jason Lee and Angela Skipper of Anniston; five sisters, Betty Whitfield and her husband, Bill, of Jacksonville, Linda Deberry and her husband, Ed, of Piedmont, Brenda Godfrey and her husband, Tom, of Hokes Bluff; Janice Passage of Tamaraz, Fla. and Debra Brown and her husband, Earnest, of Gadsden; two brothers, Dewayne Skipper of Gadsden and Ray Reeves of Wellington; a mother-in-law, Frances Turner of Jacksonville; and four grandchildren, Dillion McIntyre, Keith McIntyre, Paige McIntyre and Jacob Skipper;.

Pallbearers will be his nephews.

Mr. Skipper was a lifelong resident of Calhoun County. He was preceded in death by his father, R.E. Skipper; one brother, Roy Douglas Skipper; and his grandparents, Willie and Gracie Mae Reeves.

Services for Jim Surrett, 69, of Piedmont will be announced by Thompson Funeral Home. The family will receive friends 6-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Willis

ASHLAND

Services for Norma Willis, 89, of Ashland will be today at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Ashland with Rev. Ben Rosser officiating. Burial will follow at the Ashland City Cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home of Ashland in charge. The family will receive friends until one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

Mrs. Willis died Friday at Clay County Nursing Home.

Survivors include three daughters, Norma Ellen. Jacobus of Chicago, Martha Jean Watts of Lakewood, Wash. and Clara Lois Vecchio of Sarasota, Fla; one son, Daniel A. Willis of Chester, Va.; three sisters, Wilma Braxton of Bynum, Mildred Williamson of Ashland and June Kratohvil of Huntsville; one brother, John Kirk of Redondo Beach, Calif; nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Kirk Willis, Darrin Willis, Tommy Bradford, David Benefield and Jimmy Williamson.

Mrs. Willis was a native of Randolph County and had been employed with the city of Ashland as clerk for more than 32 years. She also served as clerk and treasurer for the water and sewer board and was selected Woman of the Year by the Clay County Business and Professional Women’s Club, having also served as legislative chairman, president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer and director of District VI clubs, and she was also a charter member. She was a member and officer of the Modern Culture Club, a charter member of the Municipal Clerks Association and the National Organization of Municipal Treasurers. She was awarded the Distinguished Service Award for Outstanding Performance as Municipal Clerk in 1972. She was a past president, vice-president and secretary of the Alabama Association of Clerks and Administrators, and was secretary of the Clay County chapter of the American Red Cross in the 1960s. She was a charter member of the Clay County Historical Society and held a lifetime membership in the Mackey Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Ashland where she served as church clerk and Sunday school secretary for more than 52 years. She also was a choir member for several years.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the First Baptist Church of Ashland’s Keenagers Bus Fund.

CHULAFINNEE

Graveside services for John Lamar Zaner, 53, of Chulafinnee will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Chulafinnee Baptist Cemetery with Rev. Randy Morris officiating. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Dryden Funeral Home.

Mr. Zaner died Saturday at his residence.

Survivors include his wife, Sheila Renee Zaner of Chulafinnee; two daughters, Layla Schwartz of Birmingham and Jessica Zaner of Chulafinnee; one son, Clay Zaner; one sister, Pam Zaner of Heflin; and five brothers, Richard Zaner of Chulafinnee, Mike Zaner of Fredricksburg, Va., Perry Zaner of Gadsden, Terry Zaner of Woodland, Jeff Zaner of Fall River, Mass; and one grandchildren, Alex Schwartz.

Pallbearers will be Heath Zaner, Johnathan Zaner, Mark Schwartz, Bret Cloeman, Larry Zaner and Wilton Zaner.

Mr. Zaner, a lifelong resident of Cleburne County, was manager of the Alabama State Store in Heflin and a Vietnam War Marine veteran. Mr. Zaner also was a member of Chulafinnee Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cranston and Lucille Zaner and a grandson, Sean Jacob Webb.

Graveside services for Dean Claude Bennett, 66, of Anniston, will be today at 2:30 p.m. at Forestlawn Gardens with Rev. Terry Helms officiating. The family will receive friends at Gray Brown-Service Mortuary and Crematory from noon to 2 p.m.

Mr. Bennett died Thursday at Gadsden Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include his wife, Pat Bennett; a son, Michael D. Bennett; his mother, Mrs. J.L. Bennett; a daughter-in-law, Dawn Bennett, all of Anniston; three nieces, Kim Jenkins of Anniston, Tracy Smith of Birmingham and Barbara McKenzie of New Market; and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Rita and S.A. Pruett.

Mr. Bennett was preceded in death by his son, Bryan Keith Bennett. He was a Marine Corps veteran and member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. He enjoyed riding Harleys. "He lived to ride and rode to live."

Services for Charles Calvin Hathorn, 84, of Anniston will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Parker Memorial Christian Life Center Chapel with Dr. Billy L. Harris officiating. Burial with private graveside services will be at Anniston Memorial Gardens with Chapel Hill Funeral Home in charge. The family will receive friends today from 4-6 p.m. in the Fireside Room in Parker Memorial Baptist Church.

Mr. Hathorn died Saturday at Stringfellow Memorial Hospital.

Survivors include two daughters, Julie Graefe of Gainesville, Fla., and Vickie Hathorn of West Jefferson, N.C.; two grandchildren, James Ellison of Archer, Fla., and Cynthia Robinson of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; one great-granddaughter, Dakota Rose Robinson of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; two nieces and four nephews.

Pallbearers will be the Malcolm Street Sunday School Class at Parker Memorial Baptist Church, Russ Slay and Tom George.

Mr. Hathorn was a Calhoun County native and was retired from Dresser Industries after 27 years of service. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and was a member of Parker Memorial Baptist Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Parker Memorial Baptist Church.
