MR. BELL

VALLEY -- Mr. Charles "Bogie" Bell, 75, of Valley died Monday, Aug. 2, 2004 at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 4 at 11 a.m. at Langdale United Methodist Church with the Rev. Roger Thompson and the Rev. Bill Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Johnson Memorial Gardens.

He is survived by his wife, Ida Faye Bell; his daughter, Jennifer (Terry) Reaves of Valley; his mother, Ruth Bell of Valley; his brother, Don Bell of LaGrange; his sister, Shirley Kemp of Dunwoody, Ga.; and two grandchildren, Charles David Reaves and Jessica Reaves, both of Valley.

Mr. Bell was born May 22, 1929 in Montgomery, Ala. He played football at Auburn University in 1949 as a freshman and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served two years in the U.S. Army and four years in the U.S. Air Force. He retired from WestPoint Stevens, where he worked in the Engineering Department at the Service Center. He was a member of Langdale United Methodist Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Harold Bell Sr.

The family respectfully declines the honor of flowers and asks that memorials be made to the Humane Society or to one's favorite charity in his memory.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, Aug. 3 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley.

MRS. ELLIS

LANETT -- Mrs. Diane Kent Ellis, 66, of Lanett died Monday, Aug. 2, 2004 at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 5 at 11 a.m. at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley with the Rev. John Shipman officiating. Burial will follow at Fairfax Cemetery.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Ellis; three daughters, Donna (John) Baker of Cusseta, Robin Ellis of Prattville, Ala., and Christi Ellis of Lanett; three grandchildren, Amy Lewis, Jennifer Talbot and Ashley Baker; two sisters, Susie Smith of Atlanta and Toppy Bailey of Opelika; and four great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Ellis was born Sept. 8, 1937 in Valley. She was a member of Huguley Church of the Nazarene and a former buyer for WestPoint Stevens.

Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Huguley Church of the Nazarene in her memory.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, Aug. 4 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley.

MRS. GOLDEN

WEST POINT -- Mrs. Barbara Ann Golden, 55, of Crossville, Tenn., formerly of Cusseta, died Thursday, July 29, 2004 in Ware County, Ga.

Funeral services were scheduled Tuesday, Aug. 3 at 2 p.m. at McCarthy Funeral Home in West Point with the Revs. Johnny Peardon and Leon Davis officiating. Burial followed in Marseilles Cemetery.

Mrs. Golden is survived by two sons, Jeff Golden of Scottsboro, Ala., and Michael Golden of Bridgeport, Ala.; three sisters, Jane Ann Davis of Opelika, Doris Moon of Cusseta and Sue Jet Coward of Pine Mountain; one brother, David James of Lanett; and six grandchildren.

Born in Troup County April 22, 1949, Mrs. Golden was the daughter of the late Tiny Barbara Johnson and the late William James. She was a member of Bible Church of God. She was a pastor with the Union City Bible Church. Mrs. Golden died of injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Waycross, Ga., while on vacation.

The family received friends Monday, Aug. 2 from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

MR. GOLDEN

WEST POINT -- Mr. Larry M. Golden, 57, of Crossville, Tenn., formerly of Cusseta, died Thursday, July 31, 2004 in Ware County, Ga.

Funeral services were scheduled Tuesday, Aug. 3 at 2 p.m. at McCarthy Funeral Home in West Point with the Revs. Johnny Peardon and Leon Davis officiating. Burial followed in Marseilles Cemetery in West Point.

Mr. Golden is survived by two sons, Jeff Golden of Scottsboro, Ala., and Michael Golden on Bridgeport, Ala.; his parents, Frank and Virginia Golden of Opelika; three sisters, Mary Ann Lipp of Pine Mountain, Betty Sue Cain of Blountsville, Ala., and Debbie Branham of Gaston, Ala.; one brother, James Golden of Opelika; and six grandchildren.

Born in Lee County Jan. 16, 1947, Mr. Golden was a member of Bible Church of God. He was a long-time employee of Huguley Oil Co. and was formerly employed with WestPoint Pepperell. Mr. Golden died of injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Waycross, Ga., while on vacation.

The family greeted friends Monday, Aug. 2 from 7 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

MRS. GUNN

LANETT -- Mrs. Ruth Grady Gunn, 82, of Lanett died Monday, July 26, 2004 at Hospice LaGrangein LaGrange, Ga.

Mrs. Gunn, born on Oct. 5, 1921, was the daughter of the late Morgan and Anne Matthews Grady. She was born in Five Points but lived in Lanett most of her life. During the past 15 months, she was a resident of Florence Hand Home in LaGrange.

A member of First United Methodist Church in Lanett, she was a choir member and soloist for 60 years. For ten years prior to moving to Florence Hand, she served as program chairperson for the "Young At Heart" senior adult luncheons at her church. While at Florence Hand, she played the piano for the residents there.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Col. John W. Grady of Auburn; a sister, Margaret Grady Smith of West Point; and her former husband, James H. Gunn of Lanett. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Rick Shaver of Kingsport, Tenn.; a son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Donna Gunn of Old Hickory, Tenn.; a son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Julie Gunn of Greenville, Texas; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren, a brother, Jack (Jean) Grady of LaGrange; a sister, Anne (Edwin) Miller of Ann Arbor, Mich; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church in Lanett Saturday, Aug. 7 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Joyce Akridge and the Rev. Danny Smith officiating.

The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lanett First United Methodist Church or to one's favorite charity.

MRS. HUGULEY

WEST POINT -- Funeral services are pending for Mrs. Josie Huguley, 67, of West Point, who died Monday, Aug. 2, 2004 at her residence.

MR. SNOWDEN

VALLEY -- Mr. C.J. Snowden, 77, of Valley died Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004 at his residence.

Graveside services are scheduled Tuesday, Aug. 3 at 2 p.m. in Fairview Cemetery with the Rev. Fred Buchanan officiating.

Mr. Snowden is survived by his wife, Barbara A. Snowden; four children, Lana (Donnie) Beck of Valley, Suellen Snowden of Valley, Marc Snowden of Valley and Mike (Kathy) Snowden of Valley; six grandchildren, Tammy (Jody) Edmondson, Don Beck, Jeff Snowden, Adam Snowden, Drew Snowden and Zack Snowden; three great-grandchildren, Brady Edmondson, Kersten Beck and Dylan Beck; one sister, Bobbie (Donald) Trammell of West Point; one brother-in-law, Jerry (Margaret) Andrews of Valley; and one sister-in-law, Frances Snowden of Lanett.

Born Nov. 27, 1926 in Cave Springs, Ga., Mr. Snowden was the son of the late Bertha Turner Snowden and W.D. Snowden. He was the owner and operator of C.J.'s Service Station in River View and was an active member of River View Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He was preceded in death by his brother, Herman Snowden.

The family respectfully declines the gift of flowers and asks that memorials be made to the River View Baptist Church Building Fund or to East Alabama Hospice in his memory.

MR. STAPLES

LANETT -- Mr. Jack Staples, 70, died Monday, Aug. 2, 2004 at George H. Lanier Memorial Hospital in Valley.

A memorial service is scheduled Wednesday, Aug. 4 at 11 a.m. at McCarthy Funeral Home Chapel in West Point with the Rev. Gary C. Cotney officiating.

Mr. Staples is survived by his wife, Alice Crowder Staples of Lanett; one daughter, Kay (Ed) Zito of Atlanta; two sons, Danny (Nancy) Staples of Lanett and Keith (Janet) Newton of Hiram, Ga.; one sister, Jean (Harold) Lashley of Lanett; two brothers, Joe Staples of Roanoke and Mike (Joan) Staples of Atlanta; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Born in Chambers County April 6, 1934, Mr. Staples was the son of the late Ida Pearl Pogue Staples and the late William B. "Bill" Staples. of Lanett. He was the owner and operator of Valley Supply Co. on Cusseta Road for more than 30 years before his retirement. Mr. Staples was an avid vintage car collector and loved to restore old automobiles.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to your favorite charity in Mr. Staples' memory.

MR. STORY

VALLEY -- Mr. Clifford Story, 82, of Valley died Monday, Aug. 2, 2004 at his residence.

Graveside services were held Tuesday, Aug. 3 at 11 a.m. at Reeds Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery in West Point with the Rev. Rusty Letson officiating.

He is survived by five children, Martha Richardson, Clifford Story Jr., Joan Story and Vickie Bell, all of Valley, and Gregg Story of Waverly; four sisters, Lorene Oliver of New Site, Mary Sessions of Wadley, Ethel McGill of LaGrange and Goldie Caldwell of Texas; 14 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.

Born July 9, 1922 in Tallapoosa County, Ala., Mr. Story was the son of the late Pearl Moran Story and Henry Franklin Story. He was a former employee of WestPoint Pepperell's Lanett Mill and a veteran of World War II, where he served with the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by his son, Donnie Story.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice in his memory.

MR. FERRELL

VALLEY -- Funeral services are pending for Mr. Terrell Ferrell of Valley, who died Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004 at George H. Lanier Memorial Hospital in Valley.

The family may be contacted at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Ferrell, 1210 Eastwood Lane in West Point.

MRS. MICKLE

LaFAYETTE -- Mrs. Clara Mickle, 79, of LaFayette died Friday, July 30, 2004 at Florence Hand Home in LaGrange.

Funeral services were scheduled Monday, Aug. 2 at 11 a.m. at LaFayette Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Paul Howard officiating. Burial followed at LaFayette City Cemetery.

Mrs. Mickle is survived by two daughters, Toni Cauble of LaGrange and Brenda Murray of LaFayette; one son, Sid Mickle of LaGrange; one sister, Zelma Lamb of LaFayette; three brothers, Royce White of Abanda, Harold White of LaFayette and Larry White of Opelika; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Born Feb. 14, 1925 in Tallapoosa County, Ala., Mrs. Mickle was a member of LaFayette Heights Baptist Church. She was retired from Avondale Mills as personnel manager after 44 years of service. Mrs. Mickle graduated from Southern Union State Junior College at the age of 52.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to LaFayette Heights Baptist Church.

MR. SLAUGHTER

FIVE POINTS -- Mr. Charlie Lewis Slaughter, 73, of Five Points died Saturday, July 31, 2004 at his residence.

Funeral services are scheduled Tuesday, Aug. 3 at 2 p.m. CDT at Sweet Home Baptist Church in Five Points with the Rev. Allen Simpson officiating. Burial will follow in Friendship Baptist #2 Cemetery in LaFayette.

Mr. Slaughter is survived by one brother, Walker Slaughter of Roanoke; and two sisters, Mattie Slaughter of Five Points and Emma (John) Gray of Atlanta.

He was born Dec. 25, 1930 in Chambers County.
