MR. SNOWDEN

VALLEY -- Mr. C.J. Snowden, 77, of Valley died Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004 at his residence.

Graveside services are scheduled Tuesday, Aug. 3 at 2 p.m. in Fairview Cemetery with the Rev. Fred Buchanan officiating.

Mr. Snowden is survived by his wife, Barbara A. Snowden; four children, Lana (Donnie) Beck of Valley, Suellen Snowden of Valley, Marc Snowden of Valley and Mike (Kathy) Snowden of Valley; six grandchildren, Tammy (Jody) Edmondson, Don Beck, Jeff Snowden, Adam Snowden, Drew Snowden and Zack Snowden; three great-grandchildren, Brady Edmondson, Kersten Beck and Dylan Beck, one sister, Bobbie (Donald) Trammell of West Point; one brother-in-law, Jerry (Margaret) Andrews of Valley; and one sister-in-law, Frances Snowden of Lanett.

Born Nov. 27, 1926 in Cave Springs, Ga., Mr. Snowden was the son of the late Bertha Turner Snowden and W.D. Snowden. He was the owner and operator of C.J.'s Service Station in River View and was an active member of River View Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon.

The family respectfully declines the gift of flowers and asks that memorials be made to the River View Baptist Church Building Fund or to East Alabama Hospice in his memory.

The family will receive friends Monday, Aug. 2 from 7 until 9 p.m. at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley.

MR. CARWELL

LaFAYETTE -- Mr. Webster Carwell, 50, of LaFayette died Wednesday, July 28, 2004 in Wedowee.

Funeral services are scheduled Monday, Aug. 2 at 2 p.m. at Poplar Springs Baptist Church in LaFayette with Pastor Jerone Fannin officiating. Burial will follow in Handy Cemetery.

Mr. Carwell is survived by his wife, Shairl Carwell of Valley; his mother, Louise Robinson of LaFayette, one son, Masontae (Shameka) Carwell of Lanett; three daughters, LaKeyshia Brooks, Neanna Brooks and Oushika Brooks, all of Lanett; one stepson, Jacobie Brooks of LaFayette; three grandchildren, Quadravious Cofield, Edtrentavious Summers and Jusantae Carwell, all of Lanett; nine brothers, Henry (Carolyn) Carwell and Bobbie Carwell, both of LaFayette, Doyle (Brenda) Carwell of Hurtsboro, Ala., Roosevelt (Annie) Carwell, Jimmy (Natasha) Carwell and William (Evone) Carwell, all of LaFayette, Franklin Carwell of Columbus, Ohio, Daryl Carwell and James (Joyce) Carwell; four sisters, Geneva Brewer, Millie (Charles) Carwell, Judy (Billy Ferrell) and Susie Walton, all of LaFayette; a special uncle, Roosevelt Carr of LaFayette; and three aunts.

INFANT HARRIS

LANETT -- Infant boy LaTazman Harris, three weeks, died Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at George H. Lanier Memorial Hospital in Valley.

Graveside services are scheduled Saturday, July 31 at 3 p.m. at New Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Lanett with the Rev. Jackie Banks officiating.

Infant Harris is survived by his mother, Janet Snell of Lanett; father Tasmin Harris of Valley; maternal grandmother, Annie George Snell of Lanett; maternal grandfather, Donnie Snell of Lanett; paternal grandmother, Joann Goodwin of Lanett; two aunts, Zorana Snell of Lanett and Yedda Golatte of Columbus, Ga.; one uncle, Lakie Snell of Lanett; his godfather, Samuel Booker of Lanett; cousins, Kourtnee Booker and the Heard family of Lanett; a very special friend, Danielle Wright of Lanett; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was born July 4, 2004, in Chambers County.

MR. LEE

WEST POINT -- Mr. Calvin Lee Sr., 64, of West Point died Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at George H. Lanier Memorial Hospital in Valley.

Funeral services are scheduled Saturday, July 31 at 3 p.m. at Goodsell United Methodist Church in Lanett with the Revs. Horace Blount III, Walter Darden and Sara Cameron officiating. Burial will follow in Westview Cemetery (water works) in West Point.

Mr. Lee is survived by two daughters, Marie Carter and Regina (Steven) McQueen, both of West Point; one son, Calvin (Keeley) Lee Jr. of La Plata, Md.; four sisters, Edith (Nathaniel) Fannings Jr. of Lanett, Florine (Morris) Griggs of Lanett, Sarah (Sammy) Baker Jr. of West Point and Mary Phine-Peters (Donald) Potts of West Point; one brother, Fletcher (Odell) Lee Jr. of Columbus, Ohio; a devoted cousin, Willie Sambula, of Lanett; and eight grandchildren.

A special thanks from the family to the following individuals: George Roberts, Hugh Boyd, Victor Bailey, Christina Delacruz and Harvey Davidson, Spectrum Store #3 employees.

Born November 6, 1939 in West Point, Mr. Lee was a member of Goodsell United Methodist Church.

The remains will lie in state at the church one hour prior to services. Visitation begins today at 2 p.m. at Unity Funeral Home in Valley.

MRS. LEE

LANETT -- Mrs. Katie Lee of Lanett died Thursday, July 29, 2004 at Beverly Healthcare Center in Lanett.

Mrs. Lee is survived by two sons, James (Mattie) Carston of Lanett and Robert Carston of Williamstown, N.J.; 14 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and other relatives.

A native of Philadelphia, Pa., Mrs. Lee was born May 12, 1927. She was the daughter of the late Henry and Mozell Loyd Carston. Mrs. Lee was a food service worker and was a member of the Paradise Emanuel Baptist Church in Philadelphia.

The family will receive friends at Lakes-Dunson-Robertson Funeral Home in LaGrange Saturday, July 31 from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. The body will be sent to Yarborough and Rocke Funeral Home, 1001 N. 63rd St. in Philadelphia, for the funeral service and Burial on Tuesday.

MRS. SHELTON

PELL CITY, Ala. -- Mrs. Ernestine H. Shelton of Pell City died at her residence Tuesday, July 26, 2004.

Funeral services are scheduled Saturday, July 31 at 1 p.m. at Rocky Zion Baptist Church in Pell City.

She was the niece of Christine R. Simpson of Lanett.

LANETT -- Funeral services are pending for three-week-old infant boy, LaTazman Harris of Lanett, who died Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at George H. Lanier Memorial Hospital in Valley.

LaFAYETTE -- Ms. Mary Sue Williams, 63, of White Plains, N.Y., died Thursday, July 22, 2004 at White Plains Hospital.

Funeral services are scheduled Thursday, July 29 at 2 p.m. CDT at Pine Grove United Methodist Church in LaFayette with the Rev. Cecelia Broome officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Ms. Williams is survived by her daughter, Rose Mary (Milton) McCants of Lanett; her mother Lucy Carrie Williams of LaFayette; two brothers, Robert (Joann) Williams of West Point and Gregory (Yolanda) Williams of Birmingham, Ala.; four sisters, Charlie Lue Williams of White Plains, Juanita Samuels, Carrie (Donald) Perry and Patricia Ann Williams, all of LaFayette; three nieces, Pamela and Jessica Williams and Anastasia Perry, all of LaFayette; six nephews, LaCourtney and JaCorey Williams, William and Wes Samuels and Donald Perry Jr., all of LaFayette, and Derrick Perry of Lemoore, Calif.; one uncle, Willie C. Ross of LaFayette; two grandchildren, Damion Williams of Lanett and Crystal (Deon) Wright of Opelika; one great-grandchild, Nakia Williams of LaFayette; and special friends Dermarcus McCoy and James Smith.

Ms. Williams was born Jan, 17, 1941 in Jefferson County, Ala. She was a member of Pine Grove United Methodist Church.

VALLEY -- Mrs. Dorothy J. Kennedy Martin, 71, of Opelika died Monday, July 26, 2004 at Care Center of Opelika.

Funeral services are scheduled Wednesday, July 28 at 2 p.m. at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley. Burial will follow in Shady Grove Cemetery in Lee County.

Mrs. Martin is survived by two daughters, Juanita Morris of Opelika and Freada (Jay) Herndon of Opelika; one sister, Betty Salas of Valley; one brother, Douglas (Shirley) Kennedy; two granddaughters, Lisa Fordham of Opelika and Melissa Carpenter of Opelika; one great-granddaughter, Angel Fordham of Opelika; two grandsons, James Carpenter and Timothy Carpenter; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Born Oct. 10, 1932, Mrs. Martin was the daughter of the late Mary Elizabeth Riddle Kennedy and John Henry Kennedy. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Opelika. Mrs. Martin loved fishing, going to church, singing in the kitchen while she cooked and NASCAR racing.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 27 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley.

MRS. SLAKER

COLUMBUS -- Mrs. Lynn Power Slaker, 48, died Sunday, July 25, 2004 of breast cancer at the Medical Center of Columbus in Columbus, Ga.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, July 27 at 7 p.m. at St. Mark United Methodist Church in Columbus.

Mrs. Slaker is survived by her husband, Chuck Slaker; her children, Joseph, Merideth, Kimberly and John Slaker of Columbus and Tarah Turner Wilson of Bel Air, Md.; a stepson, Cary Slaker, his wife, Jennifer and their son, Charlie of Cumming, Ga.; her mother, Sara Jarrell Power of Lanett; one brother, Johnny Power, his wife, Joy, and their children, Halley and Jake, of Huguley; her mother-in-law, Dorothy Slaker of Columbus; an uncle, Jack Jarrell and his wife, Barbara, of Charlotte, N.C.; an aunt, June Maddox, of Valley; and many other cousins and loved ones.

She was born Feb. 11, 1956 to Sarah Power and the late John L. Power of Lanett. She has touched the lives of many in Columbus as a passionate advocate for children through her volunteer service with Georgia PTA, the Sara Spano PTA Clothing Bank, the Columbus Public Library, Girl Scouts of America, Little League, ASA Softball and numerous other charitable and educational activities.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation (1-800-IM-AWARE) or the Sara Spano PTA Clothing Bank (706-649-0812).

MR. GRIFFIN

FIVE POINTS -- Mr. Theodore R. Griffin Jr., 70, of Five Points died Thursday, July 22, 2004 at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika.

Funeral services are scheduled Tuesday, July 27 at 1 p.m. at Sweet Home Baptist Church in Five Points with the Rev. Allen Simpson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Griffin is survived by a devoted wife of 43 years, Betty J. Griffin; two sons, Theodore R. Griffin III and Robert B. Griffin, both of Five Points; five daughters, Anita Gardner of Houston, Texas, Regina Griffin of Roanoke, LaRita D. Griffin, LaToya Griffin and Victoria Griffin, all of Five Points; one brother, Marvin (Helen) Griffin of Houston, Texas; four sisters, Frances O'Neal of Atwater, Calif., Virginia (Bill) Evans of Indianapolis, Ind., Quida Peay of Five Points and Annie Hearn of Indianapolis; five grandsons, two granddaughters and many more relatives and friends.

Mr. Griffin was a member of Sweet Home Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He retired from the Navy after 30 years of service. Mr. Griffin served his country in both the Cuban Crisis and the Vietnam War. He then had a 14-year career with Alagasco. Mr. Griffin was noted for always being concerned about the well being of others and was constantly helping others in the Chambers County and Lee County communities.

The family will receive friends Monday, July 26 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Vines Funeral Home Chapel in LaFayette.

CHILDERSBURG, Ala. -- Funeral services are pending for Mr. Harvey Sanders of Childersburg, who died Saturday, July 24, 2004 at his home.
