FELIX LAMONT “TATOO” BROWN

PELL CITY _ Funeral service for Felix Lamont “Tatoo” Brown, 41, will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Riverside with Bishop Christopher Gover and Pastor Billy Bedford Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Coleman Cemetery.

Mr. Brown died June 10 at Brookwood Medical Center in Birmingham. He was preceded in death by his father, two brothers and one sister.

He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Margaret Brown of Cropwell; one daughter, Sasha Green of Pell City; one son, Austin Bush of Pell City; three sisters, Belvine Brown of Cropwell, Yolande Allen of Greenville, S.C., and Bernadette Brown of Mauldin, S.C.; two brothers, Eliott Brown of Pell City and Brodrick Brown of Canton, Ohio; and a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives.

Pallbearers will be Patrick Scott, Johnny Carmichael, Willie Henderson, Neal Embery, Eddie Mitchell and Y.C. Embery.

The body will be placed in the church an hour prior to service time.

Sims Funeral Service will direct the service.

REV. HENRY LOUIS “BUTCH” McKINNEY

TALLADEGA _ Funeral service for the Rev. Henry Louis “Butch” McKinney, 57, will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Greater Ebenezer Baptist Church with the Rev. B.E. McKinney officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

The Rev. McKinney died June 12 at Doctors Hospital in Augusta, Ga. He was preceded in death by his mother, Katie Rhoden McKinney, and was a former member of Greater Ebenezer Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Westside High School and retired from the U.S. Army in 1992 after 25 years service, during which time he was awarded the Army Service Ribbon, a National Defense Service Medal with a Bronze Star, the Army Lapel Button, the NCO Professional Development Ribbon, a Meritorious Service Medal, the 3rd OLC Army Commendation Medal, the Overseas Service Ribbon, a Meritorious Unit Commendation, the Army Achievement Medal with 2nd OLC; and was employed by the federal government’s 513 military Intelligence at Ft. Gordon, Ga. He was a member of Sharon Baptist and was pastor for Tabernacle Baptist Church in Lincolnton.

He is survived by his wife, Bettye Ann Lewis McKinney of Augusta, Ga.; two sons, Michael L. McKinney of Montgomery and Steven L. McKinney of Tikrit, Iraq; his father, Frank McKinney of Talladega; six sisters, Mildred Swain, Shirley Jones, Gloria Jemison, Lois Henderson and Elizabeth Ford, all of Talladega; and Linda Woods of Hobson City; nine brothers, Edward McKiney, the Rev. Johnny McKinney, Randy McKinney, Anthony McKinney, Anthony Freeman and Roderick McKinney, all of Talladega, the Rev. Rickey McKinney of Birmingham; and Travis McKinney and Reginald McKinney, both of Norfolk, Va.; and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be members of the U.S. Army Honor Guard.

The body will be placed in the church an hour prior to service time.

Terry’s Metropolitan Mortuary will direct the service.

SANFORD WESLEY PRUITT

TALLADEGA — Funeral service for Sanford Wesley Pruitt, 46, will be Monday at 3 p.m. at the Usrey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Whetstone and the Rev. Ronnie Snyder officiating. Burial will be in Midway Memory Gardens.

Mr. Pruitt died June 13 at UAB Hospital in Birmingham. He was a native and life-long resident of Talladega County and was of the Baptist faith. He was an employee of the Wehadkee Yarn Mills Dye Plant, a member of the Logan Martin Bass Masters and the Coleta Valley Hunting Club. He was preceded in death by his father, Claude Pruitt.

He is survived by his wife, Lou Ann Pruitt of Talladega; two sons and daughters-in-law, Wesley Pruitt Jr. and Rachel Pruitt of Alpine and Joseph Pruitt and Wendee Pruitt of Talladega; one grandson, Jacob Pruitt of Alpine; his mother, Eunice A. Pruitt of Talladega; one sister, Mary Helen Butler of Talladega; two brothers, Wayne Pruitt of Calera and William Pruitt of Talladega; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Ray Brewer, Tommy Pettus, Mark Fomby, Josh Blankenship, Tom Bowerman, Herbert Ford, Gary Williams and Carl Hudson.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 5:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Usrey Funeral Home will direct the service.

BOBBY BROOKS

TALLADEGA _ Bobby Brooks, 75, died June 14 at Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center.

Funeral service will be announced by Terry’s Metropolitan Mortuary.

DWIGHT FREEMAN

ANNISTON - Dwight Freeman, 49, of Heflin died June 14.

Anniston Funeral Service will announce funeral service.

CORTLAND AHMAD HOUSER

ALEXANDER CITY — Graveside service for infant Cortland Ahmad Houser of Goodwater will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the St. John A.M.E. Church Cemetery in Goodwater with the Rev. James McCoy officiating.

Master Houser died June 13 at UAB Hospital in Birmingham.

He is survived by his mother, Itasha Lashelle McCoy of Goodwater; his father, Courtney Antoine Houser of Sylacauga; his grandparents, the Rev. James E. and Idoynia McCoy of Goodwater and Debra Denise Houser of Sylacauga and Erwin Williams of Sylacauga; his great- grandparents, Sam and Katie Williams of Goodwater and Joe Jones of Goodwater; his great-great-grandmother, Vera Brooks of Camp Hill; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Armour’s Memorial Funeral Home will direct the service.

SIMMIE HALL

GOODWATER — Simmie Hall of Goodwater died June 13 at Russell Medical Center.

Funeral service will be announced by Armour Memorial Funeral Home.

KATHRYN CARPENTER HULL

LINEVILLE — Funeral service for Kathryn Carpenter Hull, 90, will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Lineville Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Colquett and Dr. Wayne Stevens officiating. Burial will be in the Lineville City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Monday from 8 a.m. until service time at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville.

Mrs. Hull died June 14 at the Lineville Nursing Facility. She was a native and life-long resident of Clay County and a member of Lineville Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for 27 years. She was a member of WMU, a charter member of the Sarah Parker WMU Group, a member of the Inter-Se-Club, the Daughters of the American Revolution and was a clerk for the U.S. Postal Service for 27 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Byron Hull; her parents, William E. and Eva Jane Phillips Carpenter; an infant son and a brother, Charles William Carpenter.

Survivors include one son, William Byron Hull of Charlotte, N.C.; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Tommy Hudson, Jim McClellan, Jack Smith, Mark Satterfield, Michael Anderson and Jack Satterfield.

Benefield Funeral Home will direct the service.

SUE JACKSON

ASHLAND — Graveside service for Sue Jackson, 61, of Bay City, Texas, will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Oak Grove Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Billy Todd officiating.

Mrs. Jackson died June 1 at her residence. She was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

The family will receive friends Monday from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.

Clay County Funeral Home will direct the service.

JOE LON LEONARD

ANNISTON — Funeral service for Joe Lon Leonard, 87, of Anniston will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Thankful Baptist Church with the Rev. P. Q. English officiating. Burial will be in Forestlawn Cemetery.

Mr. Leonard died June 12 at Beverly Health Care in Oxford. He was a life-long resident of Anniston and was owner of the Leonard Barber Shop on 15th Street for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Eloise Leonard of Anniston; six sons, Lee Leonard, Willie Leonard, Joe Leonard, Freddie Leonard, Alonzo Leonard and Lugattrace Leonard; one daughter, Mary Carr; 22 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.

Grandsons will be pallbearers.

The body will be placed in the church an hour prior to service time.

Ervin Funeral Home will direct the service.

CAROLYN H. PATTERSON

TALLADEGA _ Funeral service for Carolyn H. Patterson, 64, will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. Doug Hemphill officiating. Burial will be in Pine Hill Memorial Park.

Mrs. Patterson died June 14 in Birmingham. She was a native and life-long resident of Talladega County and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where she and her late husband, Joe Patterson, had served as youth ministers. She was retired from the Talladega City Board of Education, where she worked as Child Nutrition Program manager for 24 years. She was involved in Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts in Talladega for many years and was one of the first women to receive the Beaver Scout Award. She was also involved with the Presbyterian Home for Children in Talladega.

She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Scott Patterson and Wes and Sandra Patterson of Talladega; one daughter, Julia Patterson of Talladega; two grandchildren, Chanda Poland and her husband, Matthew Poland of Norfolk, Va. and Cherie Pettus of Talladega; two great-grandchildren, Haden and Micah Poland of Norfolk, Va.; and one brother-in-law, Billy Patterson of Oxford.

Pallbearers will be David White, Doug Larry, John McGhee, Scott King, Billy Witcher, Don Harris, Matthew Poland and Mitch Munroe.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of Boy Scout Troop 130 and all past and current employees of the Talladega Board of Education.

The body will lie in state an hour before service time.

Talladega Funeral Home will direct the service.

WALTER J. SMELLEY

SYLACAUGA _ Walter J. Smelley, 74, died June 14 at UAB Hospital.

Funeral service will be announced by Curtis and Son Funeral Home.

MARY LOIS THORNTON

SYLACAUGA — Funeral service for Mary Lois Thornton, 72, will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Faith Baptist Church with the Rev. Perry Sims officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Mrs. Thornton died June 13 at Coosa Valley Baptist Medical Center in Sylacauga. She was a homemaker, a Baptist by faith, was married for 55 years and was preceded in death by a sister, Onzel Boswell.

She is survived by her husband, Harvis E. Thornton Sr. of Sylacauga; one son, Harvis Thornton Jr. of Sylacauga; one daughter, Glenda Matherson of Sylacauga; one brother, Paul Stress of Sylacauga; four sisters, Odessa Thornton, Estelle Staten, Bettie Mizzell and Carlene Caldwell, all of Sylacauga; and three grandchildren.

Visitation will be Sunday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. The body will lie in state one hour prior to service time.

Radney-Smith Funeral Home will direct the service.

ALDORA KNIGHT VEASLEY

ALEXANDER CITY - Funeral service for Aldora Knight Veasley will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Daviston with the Rev. George Jennings officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Veasley died June 10 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, N.Y. She was born April 28, 1923, to the late Walter and Donia Knight in Tallapoosa County.

She is survived by one son, Mexico Wyckoff of Rochester, N.Y.; four daughters, Shirley Mitchell of Kellyton, Ala.; Geneva Wyckoff and Rebecca Patterson of Rochester, N.Y. and Marnetha Whitfield of Williamson, N.Y.; two sisters, Nira Jackson of Alexander City and Thelma Bail of Anniston; 17 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

Armour’s Funeral Home will direct the service.
