LELA ACKLES

ANNISTON — Lela Ackles, 84, of Anniston died June 17 at Montclair Baptist Medical Center in Birmingham.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Anniston Funeral Services.

JACKSONVILLE — Charles Fox, 52, of Jacksonville died June 16 at Wellstar Community Hospice Tranquillity in Austell, Ga.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Ervin Funeral Chapel.

DRUESCILLA GROCE

ANNISTON — Druescilla Groce, 64, of Anniston died June 15 at Norway Health Care in Birmingham.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Anniston Funeral Services.

DEVAL MORROW

ANNISTON — Funeral service for Deval Morrow, 24, of Jacksonville, Fla., will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Anniston Funeral Service chapel with the Rev. Dr. Lynn Wood Westbrooks officiating. Burial will follow in Eden Hills Cemetery in Anniston.

Mr. Morrow died June 5 in Jacksonville, Fla.

He is survived by his parents, Michael and Linda Brown of Anniston; two brothers, Michael Brown II and Anthony Battle of Anniston; and his grandmother, Mary Woods.

Pallbearers will be Members of the Anniston High School Class of 1996 will be pallbearers.

Anniston Funeral Service will direct the service.

ROXANNE SARGENT PEOPLES

SYLACAUGA — Funeral service for Roxanne Sargent Peoples, 40, of Sylacauga, will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Radney-Smith Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Perry Sims officiating. Burial will follow in Millerville Baptist Cemetery.

Mrs. Peoples died June 14 in Sylacauga.

She is survived by her husband, Burt D. Peoples of Sylacauga; a son and daughter-in-law, Donald Ray Peoples and Jacklyn McDonald; one daughter, Rebecca Peoples of Huntsville; her mother, Kay Reeves of Sylacauga; four brothers, Billy Sargent of Sylacauga, Michael Sargent of Talladega and Gary Sargent and Jason Reeves of Acworth, Ga.; sister, Melinda Reeves of Sylacauga; very special loving friend, Jean Sims; and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Scott Sims, Rand Beasley, Jeffery Alford, Walter Kelley, Adam Strickland and Preston Lindenthaler. Honorary pallbearers will be Terry Crowe and Donald Duck.

Radney-Smith Funeral Home will direct the service.

LAVERNE EUGENE VICK

SYLACAUGA — Funeral service for Laverne Eugene Vick, 76, of Sylacauga will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Curtis and Son Childersburg Chapel with the Rev. Freddie Edwards and the Rev. Jimmy Dale Abrams officiating. Burial will follow in Greenhill Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Vick died June 17, at Coosa Valley Baptist Medical Center. He was preceded in death by a son, Donald Gene Vick, and a sister, Emmie Finch. He worked for U.S. Steel for 35 years, and loved to build and garden. He was a member of Cropwell Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Bobbie Jean Vick of Sylacauga; a son, Delon Eugene Vick of Cropwell; a daughter, Tamela Vick Kilpatrick of Sylacauga; two brothers, Gordon Vick of Birmingham and Gerald Vick of Harpersville; one sister, May Louis Watts of Talladega; and three grandchildren.

Family members will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 6 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Curtis and Son Funeral Home Childersburg Chapel will direct the service.

WILLIE L. MADDEN

TALLADEGA — Funeral service for Willie L. Madden, 94, of Talladega will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Sycamore Baptist Church with the Rev. W.J. Posey officiating. Burial will follow in Cave Spring Church Cemetery in Lincoln.

Mrs. Madden died June 13, at Talladega Health Care Center.

She is survived by a son, Willie B. Madden of Bynum; eight daughters, Gladys Harrell of Gadsden, Dorothy R. Madden of Talladega, Thelma L. Madden of White Plains, N.Y., Hattie Young of Lincoln, Minister Savannah Orr of Tacoma Park, Md., Geraldine White of Anniston, Mollie A. Branciforte of Cortland Manor, N.Y., and Joella Jackson of Pontiac, Mich.; one sister, Evelyn Casell of Saginaw, Mich.; 17 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be John Smith, Johnathan White, Aaron White, Bobby Joe Madden and grandsons.

The body may be viewed at the church one hour before the service.

Sims Funeral Service will direct the service.

DRUESCILLA GROCE

ANNISTON — Graveside service for Druescilla Groce, 64, of Anniston will be Thursday at 1 p.m. in Eden Hills Cemetery in Anniston with the Rev. Billy Ray Morgan officiating.

Mrs. Groce died June 16 at Northway Nursing Home in Birmingham. She was a member of Rest Haven Missionary Baptist Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Medella (George) Watson; and three grandchildren.

Friends of the family will serve as pallbearers.

Anniston Funeral Service will direct the service.

JOHN E. Johnson SR.

GOODWATER — Funeral service for John E. Johnson Sr., 90, of Goodwater will be Friday at 2 p.m. at New Hope CME in Goodwater with the Rev. Berlin Norris officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Johnson died June 15 at Sylacauga Healthcare Center. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Miles and Kate Johnson.

He is survived by two sons, John E. (Ora) Johnson Jr., of Goodwater and William (Betty) Johnson of Ashland; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Armour's Memorial Funeral Home will direct the service.

MURRAY McCLUSKEY

SYLACAUGA — Murray McCluskey of Sylacauga died June 18 at Coosa Valley Baptist Medical Center.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Radney-Smith Funeral Home in Sylacauga.

JESSIE G. RAILEY

SYLACAUGA — Funeral service for Jessie G. Railey, 63, of Sylacauga will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Curtis and Son North Chapel with the Rev. Royce L. Washburn Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Fayetteville Cemetery.

Mrs. Railey died June 17 at her residence. She was a homemaker and artist who loved to draw and loved being a "great-grandmother, mother and loving sister."

She is survived by two sons, Anthony and Timothy Honeycutt of Sylacauga; one brother, Melvin Jadey Bevels of Sylacauga; two sisters, Jimmie B. White of Sylacauga and Mary Hamilton of Fayetteville; eight grandchildren, including Jeffery Honeycutt, Dana Hay and Kimberly Combest; 15 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews, Dale Roberson Sr., Janice Burdette, Barbara Housch, Jeri Munroe, Doyle Wyatt, Randy Wyatt, Chuck Wyatt, Orleen Wyatt, Larry Wyatt, Mark Hamilton, Keith Hamilton, Shella Hamilton, Adam Roberson, Alisha Roberson, Dale Roberson, Jr., Tina Mooney and Dana Mooney.

Pallbearers will be Todd Roberson, Johnathan Roberson, Y. T. Housch, Lee Combest, Carl Fastnacht and Gerald Gray.

Frank Fowler, Gary Mooney, Adam Roberson and Kevin Hay will be honorary pallbearers.

Visitation will be Thursday from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Curtis & Son Funeral Home will direct the service.

AMANDA LYNN ROLLINS

CLAY COUNTY — Funeral service for U.S. Coast Guard Quartermaster Second Class Amanda Lynn Rollins, 25, of Jamestown, S.C., will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Mt. Carmel Christian Church with the Rev. Noel Vickers and the Rev. J.C. Holloway officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

Miss Rollins died June 17 from injuries suffered in an automobile accident. A native of Clay County, she was living in Jamestown, S.C. She was a graduate of Mellow Valley High School and Southern Union State Junior College in Wadley. She served in the U.S. Coast Guard for four years, one year as a reservist. She led a full military life, being home ported in St. Petersburg, Fla., and was a first crewman aboard the USCGC WLM 556 Joshua Appleby.

She was presently stationed at the U.S. Coast Guard Base Charleston, Charleston, S.C., and was attending college at College Charleston, Charleston, S.C., for her degree in marine biology and veterinarian science. She was also a part-time employee of Bilo's Grocery in Charleston, S.C., and was a member of Mt. Carmel Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her grand-dads, Harlin Maddox of Mellow Valley and the Rev. J.T. Rollins of Woodland.

She is survived by her parents, Priscilla and Tony Rollins of Mellow Valley; one brother, Matt Rollins of Mellow Valley; grandmothers, Callie Maddox of Mellow Valley and Elsie Rollins of Woodland; her fiancι Charlie Hinds of Jamestown, S.C.; one uncle and a host of home and military friends, family and loved ones.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 5:30 to 8 p.m. and at the funeral home and until service time on Friday.

Benefield Funeral Home of Lineville will direct the service.

BILLY DON SIMS

MONTGOMERY — Billy Don Sims of Montgomery died June 18.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Leak-Memory Chapel of Montgomery.

MARION FRANCES SMITH

ST. AUGUSTINE — Funeral service for Marion Frances Smith, 73, of St. Augustine, Fla., will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Memorial Lutheran Church with Dr. Kerry G. Hinkley officiating. Services will also be held in Santa Barbara, with internment in Santa Barbara Cemetery at a later date.

Mrs. Smith died June 16, at her residence. She was born in San Francisco, Calif., and was a longtime resident of Santa Barbara, Calif. She moved to St. Augustine in 1993 from Childersburg. She served as an assistant in her husband's dental practice in Santa Barbara and went with him as a medical missionary to Papau, New Guinea. She retired to St. Augustine in 1993 after ownership of Smith Hardware Co. Inc. in Childersburg. She was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church and a former member of Navy League Council 489 and Kiwanis Clubs in Childersburg and St. Augustine.

She is survived by her husband, Dean O. Smith of St. Augustine; one daughter, Beth Fant of Castaic, Calif.; three sons, Warren J. Smith of River Ridge, La., and Capt. Guy P. Smith and Eric D. Smith of Santa Barbara; and four grandchildren.

Flowers are gratefully declined and those wishing may make contributions in her memory to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, 525 S.R. 16, No. 112, St. Augustine, Fla. 32084.

Kotrady-Hudgins-Croyle Funeral Home, St. Augustine, will direct the service.
