Ethyl Nicholson Baker
Ethyl Nicholson Baker, age 89, of Swifton, died Feb. 10, 2000, at Regional Nursing Center in Bryant.

A retired teacher from Swifton Public School, she had lived in the Swifton area before moving to Benton 10 years ago. She was a member of the Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Baker, in November of 1999; and two sons, Don Baker and Jerry Dean Baker.

Survivors include two daughters, Jane Kelly, Benton, and Judy Barron, Round Rock, Texas; three sons, Harold Baker, Walnut Ridge, Noel Baker, Clover Bend, and Gary Baker, North Little Rock; a sister, Dorothy Conner, Little Rock; 16 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Funeral was Sunday afternoon at 2 at the Swifton Church of Christ with Mike Templeton and Don House officiating. Burial was in Arnold Cemetery, near Swifton, under the direction of House-Gregg Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were James Adams, Butch Keton, Tim Nicholson, Hubert Norris, Jerry Church and Bobby Gilmore.

A. Lorean Gage
A. Lorean Gage, age 88, of Jonesboro, died Feb. 9, 2000, at St. Bernards in Jonesboro.

Born at Ravenden, she had lived in the Jonesboro area most of her life. She was of the Baptist belief.

Survivors include a son, Bill Gage, Jonesboro; a brother, Virgil McEntire, Jonesboro; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Graveside service and burial were Friday morning at 10:30 at Pine Log Cemetery, near Brookland, with Rev. Jerry Jolly officiating. Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home had charge of the arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Temple Baptist Church.

Noah Ellis Baker
Noah Ellis Baker, age 85, of Tuckerman, died May 31, 2000.

Born Sept. 26, 1914, at Cave City, he was the son of Oscar and Lela Epperson Baker. He was a retired farmer and was a caretaker for Gracelawn Cemetery in Tuckerman for many years. He was a member of Hope Methodist Church in the Elgin Community.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Vada Marie Brewer.

Survivors include two daughters, Ollie Brown and Ethel Baughn, both of Tuckerman; three brothers, O'Neal Baker, Walnut Ridge, Edgar Baker, Piggott, and Paul Baker, Missouri; four grandchildren, Cindy Johnson, Max Brown, Richard Baughn and Stephen Baughn; nine great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Funeral was Friday afternoon at 2 at Hope Methodist Church at Elgin Community. Burial was in Gracelawn Cemetery under the direction of Dillinger Funeral Home of Newport.

Mary Margaret Witcher
Mary Margaret Witcher, age 75, of Walnut Ridge, died June 4, 2000, at St. Bernards in Jonesboro, following a sudden illness.

Born Sept. 29, 1924, at Bono, she was the daughter of Jess Franklin and Nevada Brown Hancock. She was a retired LPN at the Walnut Ridge Nursing and Rehab Center and was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church in Walnut Ridge.

Survivors include her husband, J.C. Witcher, whom she married on Dec. 19, 1949; two sons, Larry Jay Witcher and Mike Lloyd Witcher, both of Walnut Ridge; a daughter, Lynn Michelle Witcher, of the home; two sisters, Sylvia K. Wallace, Dexter, Mo., and Oleta Maxine Nicholas, Walnut Ridge; four grandchildren, Ashley Parnell, Brett Witcher, Morgan Witcher and Tony Parnell, and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral was Tuesday afternoon at 2 at Fellowship Baptist Church with Bro. Bob Smith and Bro. Keith Marlin officiating. Burial was in Lawrence Memorial Park under the direction of Bryan Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Larry Witcher, Mike Witcher, Tony Parnell, Brett Witcher, Dean Hancock and Randy Nicholas.

Billy Elmo Meadows
Billy Elmo Meadows, age 59, of Hoxie, died Sept. 10, 2000, at his home.

Born Nov. 6, 1940, at Black Rock, he was the son of Oscar L. and Bessie Jane Sauage Meadows. He was a truck driver and was a member of the Hoxie Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Jean Presswood Meadows, whom he married July 16, 1966, in Hoxie; a son, Billy Ray Meadows, Hoxie; a daughter, Liberty Zimmerman of Hoxie; three brothers, Edward Meadows and Jimmy Ray Meadows, both of Cord, and Carroll Lee Meadows, Doe Run, Mo.; and a granddaughter, Clarissa Zimmerman, Hoxie.

Funeral was to be this afternoon at 2 at the Hoxie Church of Christ with Donald Layne officiating. Burial was to be in Strangers Home Cemetery at Alicia under the direction of Higginbotham Funeral Service.

Pallbearers were to be Terry Walker, Pleasant Lee Vaulner, Jack French, Steve Coleman, Butch Clements and Jeff Downum. Honorary pallbearers were to be members of the Hoxie Church of Christ Men's Bible Class, Herman Dulaney, J.W. Mans, L.J. Hogue, Baudie Harp, J.W. Sauls, Cleo Vinson, Ray Dobbs, Willard Huskey and Luther Fowler.

Elmer Walker
Elmer Walker, age 80, of Hoxie, died Sept. 30, 2000, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Born at Walnut Ridge, he lived in the Walnut Ridge and Hoxie area most of his life. He was a retired self-employed mechanic.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, Raymond; four sisters; and four brothers.

Survivors include four daughters, Melba Jean Wallis and Erma Lee Cariker, both of Mountain Home, Sandra Kaye Wallis, Augusta, and Judy Snyder, Doylestown, Pa.; two sisters, Elean Woodard, Walnut Ridge, and Elsie Cohen, St. Louis, Mo.; two brothers, Vernie Walker, Berryville, and Billy Walker, Ravenden; a close friend, Louis Callison, Hoxie; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside service and burial were Tuesday morning at 11 at Lawrence Memorial Park. House-Gregg Funeral Home had charge of the arrangements.

Pallbearers were Sammy Burton, Danny Walker, Roger Johnson, Gene Dauck, David Wallis and J.M. Johnson. Ronnie Tribble served as honorary pallbearer.

James Howard Brown
James Howard Brown, age 46, of Jonesboro, died June 2, 2000, at St. Bernards in Jonesboro.

Born July 6, 1953, in Jonesboro, he was the son of Leon and Vera Brown. He lived in the Jonesboro and Walnut Ridge areas all his life. He was the owner operator of Du-B's Auto Repair. He served in the U.S. Army for 17 years and was a member of the Apostolic Lighthouse Church.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Ann Riggs Brown.

Survivors include his wife, Gloria DuBar Brown; a son, James Howard Brown Jr., Jonesboro; three brothers, Charles Brown, Walnut Ridge, Bill Brown, Georgetown, Texas, and Larry Brown, Rockford, Ill.; and two grandchildren.

Funeral was Tuesday afternoon at 1 at Roller-Farmers Union Chapel with Wayne Clements and Paul Carroll officiating. Burial was in Pine Log Cemetery under the direction of Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were David Hudson, Ken Garner, Ed DuBar, Brett DuBar, Billy Brown and Elbert DuBar. Honorary pallbearers were the men of the Apostolic Lighthouse Church.

Peggy Ann Davis
Peggy Ann Davis, age 44, of Cash, died Sept. 7, 2000, at St. Bernards in Jonesboro.

Born Dec. 13, 1955, in Jonesboro, she was the daughter of Charles H. and Martha Carter O'Neal. She was a homemaker and a member of the Cash Baptist Church in Cash.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Survivors include her husband, Michael Davis, a former Lawrence County resident; her mother, Martha Carter O'Neal, Ft. Wayne, Ind.; a daughter, Janet Davis, Cash; a son, Jonathan Davis, Ft. Wayne, Ind.; a stepson, Andrew Davis, Cash; two brothers, Michael O'Neal and Charles T. O'Neal, both of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; and two sisters, Therese Newkirk and Claudia Fries, both of Ft. Wayne, Ind.

Funeral was Sunday afternoon at 2 at Higginbotham Chapel with Rev. Bob Kary officiating. Burial was in Lawrence Memorial Park under the direction of Higginbotham Funeral Service.

Pallbearers were John Davis, Ronnie Moody, Harold Davidson, Jeff Newkirk, Cary Fries and Tim Pierce.

Memorials may be made to St. Bernards Hospice in Jonesboro.

Emily Stroud
Emily Stroud, age 68, of Mountain Home, died Sept. 30, 2000, at Baxter Regional Medical Center.

Born Nov. 25, 1931, in Augsburg, Germany, she was the daughter of Mathias and Emilie Vatterly. She was a former resident of Ravenden and had lived in Mountain Home since 1992. She was a retired seamstress and was of the Catholic faith.

Survivors include her husband, Burley D. Stroud, whom she married in 1956 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada; and a sister, Theresa Lind, Sacramento, Calif.

Funeral and burial were private. Roller Funeral Home of Mountain Home had charge of the arrangements.

Jacqueline McCluskey Pollock
Jacqueline McCluskey Pollock, age 65, of Walnut Ridge, died May 31, 2000, at Lawrence Hall Nursing Center.

Born at Sharum, near Pocahontas, she was a private care giver and was a former employee of Brown Shoe Company and was a Baptist.

Survivors include a son, Dusty Barnes, St. Louis; a daughter, Cindy Helms, Oklahoma, City, Okla.; a brother, Charles "Sonny" McCluskey, Walnut Ridge; four sisters, Genell Murrow, West Plains, Mo., Pat Penny, Little Rock, Brenda Cole, Jonesboro, and Linda Kirby, Livermore, Calif.; and six grandchildren.

Graveside service and burial were Saturday afternoon at 1 at Sharum Cemetery, near Pocahontas, with Rev. John Turner officiating. House-Gregg Funeral Home had charge of the arrangements.

Pallbearers were Rusty McClusky, Tim Harris, Marty Harris, Russell Cole, Matt Noblin and Curtis Noblin.

Felicia Ann Elliott
Funeral services for Felicia Ann Elliott, 7, of Dalton, were Sunday afternoon at 1:30 at McNabb Funeral Home in Pocahontas with Paul Craig officiating.

Her body was found Sept. 8. Her mother, Lisa Earlene DuBois Elliott; her father, Carl Allen Elliott; and her brother, Gregory Allen Elliott, were killed in July 1998. Born Aug. 20, 1990, she was a former resident of Walnut Ridge.

Survivors include her grandparents, Mary Thomas of Pocahontas and Martha and Gerald Elliott of Reyno, formerly of Walnut Ridge.

Burial was in Gravesville Cemetery under the direction of McNabb Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Bill Eason, Vick Martin, Kevin Martin and Mike Johnson.

Sandra Sue Sullivan Atwood
Sandra Sue Sullivan Atwood, age 51, of Huntsville, Ala., died June 1, 2000, at the Huntsville Hospital in Huntsville, Ala., following a sudden illness.

Born Jan. 15, 1949, at Lauratown, she was the daughter of Roy Winford and Sybil E. Pinkston Sullivan. She was a licensed cosmetologist and a member of the Baptist Temple Church in Alexandria, La.

Survivors include her husband, Col. Henry J. Atwood Jr.; two sons, Cameron Atwood, Troy, Ill., and Henry Atwood III, Huntsville, Ala.; her mother, Sybil Anderson, Portia; a sister, Helen White, Powhatan; a brother, James Sullivan, Jonesboro; and a granddaughter.

Funeral was Sunday afternoon at 2 at Bryan Chapel with Elder L.J. Gay and Bro. Vance Penn officiating. Burial was in McAdams Cemetery, near Calamine, under the direction of Bryan Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Henry Atwood III, Cameron Atwood, Steve Atwood, Malcolm Nall, Scott Casady and Danny Casady II.

James Sparrow
James Sparrow, age 59, of Imboden, died Sept. 8, 2000, at his home, following a lengthy illness.

Born Feb. 14, 1941, at Searcy, he was the son of Hardy Sparrow and Maxine Medlock. He was a former resident of Walnut Ridge and was a carpenter and served 16 years in the United States Army as a captain. He was of the Baptist belief.

He was preceded in death by his father, Hardy Sparrow.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Lee Sparrow, whom he married Oct. 10, 1998; 11 children including two sons, Randy Sparrow, Jonesboro, and Jim Sparrow, Colorado; two stepsons, Kevin Lee, Walnut Ridge, and Tim Lee, Savannah, Ga.; his mother, Maxine Medlock, Walnut Ridge; a sister, Margaret Beck, Walnut Ridge; and several grandchildren.

Graveside service and burial were Sunday afternoon at 2 at Lawrence Memorial Park with Bro. Dale Blackwell officiating. Bryan Funeral Home had charge of the arrangements.

Pallbearers were Ray Parsons, Chelcy Parsons, W.D. Willard, Ronnie Pierce, Curt Huckabee and Bud Burnside.

Betty Lou Raines
Betty Lou Raines, age 75, of Russellville, died Sept. 26, 2000, at St. Mary Hospital in Russellville, following a lengthy illness.

Born Dec. 27, 1924, in Tennessee, she was the daughter of Shelie Lum and Elma Mae Qualls Beaty. She moved to Walnut Ridge in early life. She was a homemaker and a member of the Hoxie United Methodist church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Raines, on May 1, 1989; two brothers, Randy Beaty and Lowell Beaty; and four sisters, Nora Lee Fishe, Jewell Shopman, Deamie Wangbichler and Irene Beaty.

Survivors include two daughters, Patsy Page, Newport, and Linda Hawk, Dardanelle; three brothers, John Beaty and Gene Beaty, both of Georgia, and Jim Beaty, Michigan; a sister, Hazel Stoklosa, Michigan; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral was Friday afternoon at 3 at Bryan Chapel with Rev. Donnie Hudson officiating and Jean Jean assisting. Burial was in Lawrence Memorial Park under the direction of Bryan Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Sloan Turnbow, Alex Latham, Jim Green, Joe Belk, Larry Jones, Reggie Lewis, Wilson Alls and Charles Belk. Members of the Hoxie Methodist Church Women's Sunday School Class served as honorary pallbearers.
