Ms. Sherry Shaw

Sherry Shaw, age 40, a resident of De Queen, died Sunday, November 4, 2007 in Little Rock, Arkansas.

She was born October 13, 1967 in De Queen, to Louis Homer Beckwith and Lorene Mullinax. She was a former employee of Hillcrest Cleaners and Ayers Cleaners, and a Baptist.

She is survived by her mother, Lorene Mullinax; two sisters, Mary Sanchez and Charlotte Albiter; two brothers, Eric Medina and Derrick Medina all of De Queen; one and only true love "pops", Claudie Bailey and her dog, Mojo; two nephews, Jose Sanchez and Joshua Sanchez; and two nieces, Chelsea Sanchez and Brittany Sanchez.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 7, 2007 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. J.L. Walker officiating. Burial will follow in the Avon Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 6th at the Funeral Home.

Mrs. Joyce A. Richards

Mrs. Joyce Ann Martin Richards, age 68, a resident of De Queen, Ark., died Sunday, November 4, 2007 in the Dubuis Health System, Texarkana, Texas.

She was born to Christopher and Laura M. Kepple Martin at St. Genevieve, Missouri, on September 1, 1939. She was a homemaker, and was a volunteer for the Salvation Army. She was of the Baptist Faith, and enjoyed collecting glass ware, and flea markets.

She is survived by her husband, Bryan Richards of De Queen, three sons, Melvin Weiler, Leslie Weiler both of De Queen, Ark.; and Steven Weiler of Foreman, Ark.; one daughter, Dana Curtis of De Queen, one step-son, John Richards of De Queen, three step-daughters, Nancy Ellen Kenworthy of Hope, Ark.; Carol Lamb also of Hope, Ark.; and Pam Langley of Seprepta, La.; one sister, Letha Brown of St. Genevieve, Mo. 21 grandchildren, and special friends, Marsha Morphew and Mickey McElroy both of De Queen.

A memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 7, 2007 with Bro. Jack McCollough officiating, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, DeQueen. The family will be at the home of Christy Curtis at 387 Beacon Hill Road, immediately following the memorial service.

Mrs. Lilla Houser

Mrs. Lilla Bell Sharp Houser, age 92, a resident of Lockesburg, Arkansas, died Friday, November 2, 2007 at her home.

She was born to Lon Fletcher and Rena Ethel Wilson sharp in Sevier County, Arkansas, on January 6, 1915. she was a retired employee of Pilgrim's Pride, as well as a homemaker. She was a member of the Lions Methodist Church, and enjoyed the piano and music.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Henry Sharp; a son-in-law, Kenneth Ray Dixon; and in 1996, her husband of over 62 years. Homer Andrew Houser.

She is survived by one daughter, Rena Faye Dixon of Lockesburg; two grandsons, Kenny Dixon and Todd Dixon both of Lockesburg; a granddaughter; six great-grandchildren, Charles Ray, Justin, Amanda, Garret, Sam; five great-grandchildren, Grady, Bailey, Cameron, Kyrley, Hallie; and one brother Dee Sharp of Lockesburg, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Lilla Houser will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, November 4th in the Wrights Chapel Cemetery with Rev. Jack Gilliland officiating, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Saturday, November 3rd.

Ms. Carolyn Sue Fatheree Perguni

Ms. Carolyn Sue Fatherree Perugini, age 66, resident of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, died Tuesday, October 30, 2007 at her home.

She was born to Frank, Sr. and Viola Brackett Fatherree at Lockesburg, Arkansas, on May 19, 1941. She was an employee of the Little Rock District of the U. S. Corps of Engineers, where she served as Budget Director. She was a member of the Village Bible Church of Hot Springs, and enjoyed quilting, sewing, and spending time with her family, especially her sons and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Frank, Jr., Bobby, and Bennie Fatherree, and a son, Jimmy Dellinger in 1985.

She is survived by two sons and daughter-in-law, Terry Dellinger, David and Gayla Dellinger all of Texarkana, Texas, three brothers, Charles Fatherree of Booklyn, Michigan, Billy Fatherree of Ashdown, Ark.; and Kenneth Fatherree of Greenbrier, Arkansas, one sister, Shirley Hatch of Cabot, Arkansas, eight grandchildren, two great-randchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Ms. Carolyn Sue Perugini will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 2nd in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor John Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Lockesburg Cemetery, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, November 1st.

Mr. Robert "Blake" Hendrix

Blake Hendrix was born on August 24, 1965 in Fayetteville, Arkansas. He died in Carrollton, Texas on October 30, 2007.

He grew up in De Queen, Arkansas where he graduated from high school in 1983 and was a member of the First Baptist Church. He graduated from the University of Arkansas where he earned a degree in Economics. He then went on to earn an MBA in Accounting from Tulane University. He spent most of his career as a commercial banker in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In recent years, he started a consulting practice and authored two books on small business finance. He had recently begun teaching graduate level business classes in the Dallas area. He was a wonderful gourmet cook who enjoyed traveling and the arts.

He is survived by his wife, Laura Hendrix and step-son, Tyler Barnes, his parents, Bob and Karen Hendrix, his sister Camille Hendrix, and in-laws Larry and Gina Brewer, Christine and Jerry Lewis.

A memorial service will be held at 2 PM Friday, November 2, 2007 at the First Baptist Church in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Memorials may be made to the Celiac Disease Foundation at www.celiac.org.

Mr. J.C. "Jake" Miller

Mr. J.C. "Jake" Miller, age 82, of De Queen, died Monday, October 29, 2007 at his home in the Genva community.

He was born in Pittsburg, Texas on January 12, 1925; the last surviving child born to John C. and Martha Lou Hill Miller. The family moved to the Geneva community in Sevier County in 1934. Mr. Miller was retired from Alltel; he served on the board of Mt. Ida Cemetery Association from its inception until recently, was a World War II Army veteran and was saved one a mountain top in Tineana during the war. He attended the Geneva Missionary Baptist Church since 1934, enjoyed spending time with his family especially Josh and Jarah. His hobbies included raising a big garden which he shared with many friends.

Mr. Miller was preceded in death by both his parents; four brothers and three sisters.

Survivors included his wife of 51 years, Lila Jeffcoat Miller; one son and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Karla Miller of De Queen; one daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and David Shipman of De Queen; two grandchildren, Josh and Jarah Shipman and several nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Miller will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, November 1, 2007 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Mt. Ida Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 31st at the funeral home.

Mr. Orville Sims

Orville E. Sims, age 74, a resident of Gillham, AR died Monday, October 29, 2007 in De Queen.

He was born December 27, 1932 in Rufe, OK to Edgar and Elizabeth Mills Sims. He was a retired construction worker and a lake attendant for the Corps of Engineers and a Navy veteran during the Korean Conflict. His lifetime love was spending time with his family and fishing and helping all those in need.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Patsy Sims.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jane Higgins Sims of Gillham; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Carl Sims of De Queen, and Mike and Annette Sims of Edmond, OK; two daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Terry Whisenhunt of De Queen and Becky and Donnie Winston of Sheridan, AR; his siblings, Ernestine Campbell of Laurel, MS, Rosetta Copeland of Arkadelphia, AR, Eddie Sims of Ardmore, OK, Jo Thieme and Bobbie Wyman, both of Keiser, OR, Edna Henson of Sheridan, OR, Ardie Cox of Dayton, OR, Debbie Long of Elmore, OK, Pam Sims and Terry Manasco, both of Alaska; his step-mother, Thelma Sims of Keizer, OR; 11 grandchildren, 11 great- grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Sims will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, November 1, 2007 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. George Frachiseur officiating. Burial will follow in the Millcreek Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 31, 2007 in the funeral home.

Mrs. Eula Faye Powell Sargent

Mrs. Eula Faye Powell Sargent, age 82, a resident of Wickes, Arkansas, died Saturday, October 20, 2007 in the Brookwood Nursing Center, De Queen.
She was born to Samuel Alexander and Eula Mae Oroark Powell at Lindsey, Oklahoma, on December 25, 1924. She was a member of the Wickes Church of the Nazarene, and was a homemaker. She enjoyed puzzles and sewing.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son-in-law, David Piearcy, a daughter, Linda Winkley, and her husband William Royce Sargent.

She is survived one son and daughter-in-law, William Dwight and Brenda Sargent of Wickes, Ark.; two daughters and son-in-law, Virginia Piearcy of Justin, Texas, and Carolyn and Gordon Skelton of Garvin, Okla.; one brother Darrell Powell of Mt. Pleasant, Texas, three sisters, Francis Short of Caruthers, California, Joann Smith of Wickes, Ark.; and Daphine Blackmon of Hooks, Texas, 10 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Faye Sargent will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 24, 2007 in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Wickes, Arkansas, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen.

Mr. James William Wise

Mr. James William Wise, age 32, of Wickes, Arkansas, passed away Thursday, October 18, 2007 in Wright City, Oklahoma.

He was born in De Queen, Arkansas to Jimmy Wise and the late Pam Thomas Wise. He was united in marriage to Teresa Johnson. He was a truck driver by profession and was of the Methodist faith. James was a loving husband, son, father, brother, uncle, and friend, and will be greatly missed by all he knew.

He is survived by: Wife: Teresa Wise of the home; Sons: Blake, Bailey, and Braxton Wise of Grannis, Arkansas; Father: Jimmy Wise and wife Valarie of Grannis, Arkansas; Father and Mother-in-Laws: Roy and Kay Johnson of Wickes, Arkansas Ricky and Sharon Flournoy of Horatio, Arkansas; Brothers: Jimmy Wise and wife Melinda of Wickes, Arkansas Jerry Hopper of Grannis, Arkansas Tim Hopper and wife Jennifer of Wickes, Arkansas; Sister: Kim Wright and husband Chris of Eagle Town, Oklahoma; Nieces and Nephews: Breanna and Madi Wright, Amy, Bruce, Matt, John, Shawn and Dana Wise, Holly, Robert, Roger, Hope, Gracie, and Madi Lyle, Jared and Noah Richardson, Summer and Chelsea Carterby, Brandy, Ryan, Cullen, and Dustin Hopper, Chase Johnson, and Emily and Abby Flournoy; Brothers and Sisters-in-Law: Brad Lyle and wife Linda of Mena, Arkansas Jeffrey Richardson and wife Trina of Wickes, Arkansas Elisha Westbrook of Wickes, Arkansas John Johnson of Wickes, Arkansas Johnny Johnson of Wickes, Arkansas Jay Fuller of Wickes, Arkansas Melissa Johnson of Wickes, Arkansas Brad and Deanna Flournoy of Texarkana Daniel Flournoy of Horatio, Arkansas; Grandparents: Jake and Jean Wise of Grannis, Arkansas

He was preceded in death by his mother Pam Thomas and step-mother, Ann Wise, and a sister, Aleisha Wise.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, October 21, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Wickes, Methodist Church with Brother Dan Williams officiating. Interment will follow at Grannis Cemetery under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. Family and friends visitation will be Saturday evening, October 20th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Allen McKee, Billy Driver, Danny Williams, Bryan Richardson, Josh Canada, Jerry John.

Mr. Charles Castor

Mr. Charles Castor, age 79, a resident of Acworth, Georgia, and former resident of Horatio, Arkansas, died Tuesday, October 16, 2007 at his home.

He was born to Charles R. and Gladys Brown Castor at Utica, Kansas, on July 1, 1928. He was veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy. After service, Charles was a rancher, and also worked for the Polled Hereford World Magazine, providing ring service for registered cattle sales. After several years, he established his own herd of Simmental Cattle near Shreveport, and in 1977, he moved his operation to Horatio, where he lived and worked his cattle until he lost his eyesight.

He is survived by his wife of over 61 years, Elma Hopkins Castor of Acworth, GA; a daughter and son-in-law, Ruthie and Glenn Collins of Acworth, GA, 2 grandchildren, Glen "Butch" Collins and his wife, Mary, and Michele and he husband, John West, 4 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., November 3, 2007 in the Utica, Kansas under the direction of American Legion Post 280. Local arrangements under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the First United Church, Horatio, Arkansas, 71842, or to the American Printing House for the Blind, P.O. Box 6389, Louisville, KY 40206-9932

Mrs. Gloria Richardson

Mrs. Gloria Dean Richardson, age 77, a resident of Texarkana, Texas, died Wednesday, October 17, 2007 in Christus St. Michael Health System.

She was born to Troy Grider and Veltie Mae Hansen on May 28, 1930 at Texarkana, Texas. She was a retired nurse, and worked with her husband in his automotive business. She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene, and enjoyed movies.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Irvin Dewey Richardson. She is survived by one son, Dennis Ray Richardson of Texarkana, Texas, two daughters, LaDonna Smith of Texarkana, Texas, and Vicki Biddle of Texarkana, Texas, five grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren as well as other family members.

A private memorial service will held at a later date. Cremation arrangements under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home.
