Mrs. Bonnie Rae Smith

Mrs. Bonnie Rae Smith, age 83, a resident of De Queen, AR, died Saturday, September 15, 2007 in De Queen.

She was born October 12, 1923 in the Mt. Ida Community to Jesse Ray and Fronie Elizabeth Hendricks Smith. She was a retired nurse and was employed at the De Queen General Hospital and a member of the Memorial Missionary Baptist Church.

Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Lindon Smith.

She is survived by her husband, C.C. “Bobby” Smith of De Queen, AR; one son and a daughter-in-law, Charlie Ray Smith and Judy of De Queen, AR; one daughter, Bobbie Jean Jones of El Dorado, AR; three brothers, Mitchell, Arlis and Roy Smith all of De Queen, AR; one sister, Myrtle Sims of De Queen, AR; one sister-in-law, Jane Smith of De Queen, AR; two grandchildren Robert Ken Jones and his wife Benita of El Dorado, AR and Cynthia Denise Smith of De Queen, AR; three great grandchildren, Molly Jones, Will Jones and Triston Smith; Sixteen nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Smith will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 18, 2007 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Joe Carlton officiating. Burial will follow in the Bellville Cemetery in Lockesburg, AR under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen, AR.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, September 17, 2007 at the funeral home.

Mr. Glen Wilson

Glen Dewayne Wilson, age 15, resident of Horatio, Arkansas, died Thursday, September 13, 2007, from a vehicle-pedestrian accident, near his home in Horatio.

He was born on August 18, 1992, in Paris, Texas. He was a ninth grade student in the Horatio School System, and enjoyed playing video games, chess, and basketball.

He is survived by his mother and step-father, Linda and Jason Hejduk of Horatio, AR, his father, Terry Wilson of Paris, Texas, a sister, Jennifer Wilson of Horatio, and his grandparents, John and Shirley Wilson of Paris, Texas, and of aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Graveside funeral services for Glen Wilson will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 15, 2007, in the Clear Creek Cemetery, Horatio, Arkansas, with Bro. Sam Hendricks officiating, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, DeQueen.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, September 14th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Mrs. Pauline Glasgow

Pauline Glasgow, age 76, of Newhope, died Saturday, September 1, 2007.

She was born May 10, 1931 in Newhope, the daughter of Claude George Young and Annie Georgia Whisenhunt. On July 8, 1950 she was married to Elmer Loy “Boob” Glasgow who preceded her in death on March 29, 1996. She was also preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Stephanie Glasgow; four brothers, Leo Young, Hubert Young, Elmer “Dock” Young and Tess Young.

She was a member of Church of Christ. She enjoyed shopping, crocheting, quilting, crafts and sewing.

She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Randall and Rebecca Glasgow of Newhope, Larry and Rhonda Glasgow of Livingston, Texas and Phillip and Jamie Glasgow of Newhope; four daughters and sons-in-law, Debra and Jerry Mounts of Dierks, Rhonda and Ronald Hunter of Newhope, Kim and Bill Roberts of Lockesburg and Stacey and Bill Crow of Dierks; twenty-two grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mae Dean Coffman of Livingston, Texas and Betty Blake of Glenwood; four sisters-in-law, Bonnie Clemens of San Antonio, Texas, Rose Glasgow of Warren, Indiana, Linda Duggan and Vera Young both of Dierks; and many nieces and nephews.

Services were held at 3:00 PM, Monday, September 3, 2007 at Newhope Church of Christ with Gerald Eaton, Kenny Fant, Kelly Brown and Raymond Dees officiating.

Visitation was Sunday, 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM.

Interment was in the Bissell Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood.

Pallbearers were her grandchildren.

Mr. Leslie Gilbert Cooper

Mr. Leslie Gilbert Cooper, age 76, a resident of Ft. Smith, died Monday, September 3, 2007 in Springdale, Arkansas.

He was born June 27, 1931 in Gillham, Arkansas to Bon and Dora Brewer Cooper. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service and the U. S. Air Force having served in Korea. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.

Mr. Cooper was preceded in death by his mother; one son, Danny Ray Cooper; and one grandson, Gilbert Clay Cooper.

He is survived by his wife, Anna Murray Cooper; two sons, Leslie Clay Cooper of Springdale and Dale Henry Cooper of Ft. Smith; one daughter, Cathy Jean Hendrix of Tenkiller, Oklahoma; his father Bon F. Cooper of Gillham; one brother and sister-in-law, Ray and Carolyn Cooper of Steens, Mississippi; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Peggy Harris of Texarkana, Texas and Inez and Hubert Stevenson of Dinuba, California; four grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Cooper will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, September 8, 2007 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Red Dixon officiating. Burial will follow in the Gillham Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, September 7th at the funeral home.

Mrs. Peggy Louann Conatser

Peggy Louann Conatser, age 63, a resident of De Queen, died Tuesday, September 4, 2007 in the De Queen Medical Center.

She was born July 15, 1944 in Texarkana, Texas to Luther and Joan Jones. She was a L.P.N. and worked for De Queen Medical Center and De Queen Home Health and was a member of the Rose Hill Baptist Church.

Mrs. Conatser was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband, Tim Conatser of De Queen; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Richard Jones of Indianapolis, IN, Kevin Bass of Greenville, TX and William and Carrie Conatser of Van Buren, AR; two daughters and a son-in-law, Debi and Lonny Lee of De Queen and Karen Bass of Greenville, TX; 15 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Conatser will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, Sept 8, 2007 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bobby Floyd officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Ida Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, September 7th at the funeral home.

Mr. William Edward "Eddie" Boyd

William Edward "Eddie" Boyd, age 46, a resident of Winthrop, died Tuesday, September 4, 2007 at his home.

He was born February 24, 1961 in foreman, Arkansas to Oscar and Ora Mae Brown Boyd. He was a logger and a member of the Crossroads Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Royce Boyd.

He is survived by his children, Amanda Boyd, Stacey Boyd and Joe Austin Boyd all of Winthrop; six brothers: Donald Boyd of Mt. Pleasant, Texas, Dale Boyd of Winthrop, Glen Boyd of Central community, Danny Boyd, Mark Boyd, both of Foreman and Andy Boyd of Winthrop; four sisters: Erma Lansdell of foreman, Joyce Fisher of Haworth, Oklahoma, Lois Knighten of Little Rock, and Anna Bolin of Conway; a half-brother: Bobby Boyd of Mississippi; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services for Mr. Boyd will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 7, 2007 in the Campground Cemetery in Winthrop with Bro. Gary Steiner officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, September 6th at the funeral home.

Mrs. Hellen Bernice Short

Mrs. Hellen Bernice Wilson Short, afffectionately called, Necy, age 69, resident of Horatio, Arkansas, died Saturday, September 1, 2007 at her home.
She was born to Samuel A. and Edith Eloner Madewell Wilson in the Falls Chapel Community of Sevier County, Arkansas, on September 15, 1937. She married James Calvin Short at Eagletown, Oklahoma on May 14, 1955,

Necy was a homemaker, enjoyed plants, and taking care of her family, especially her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, William A. Wilson.

She is survived by her husband of over 52 years, J. C. Short, Sr. of Horatio, three sons and a daughter-in-law, James Calvin, Jr. and Josie Short of Willmington, Delaware, Samuel J. Short, and Pleze “Hot Rod” Short both of Horatio, a daughter, Eloner Juanita “Tooter” Edens also of Horatio, Ark.; two sisters, Marie Willis of De Queen, and Mary Meyers of Horatio, Ark. six grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and thirteen step-great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Bernice Short will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 4, 2007 in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel Burial will follow in the Clear Creek Cemetery, Horatio, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, September 3rd from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Mrs. Carmaletta Delores Schiffman

Mrs. Carmaletta Delores Schiffman, age 75, a resident of De Queen, died Friday, August 24, 2007 in the De Queen Medical Center.

She was born June 6, 1932 in Amber, Oklahoma to Herbert Curtis and Rosa Estella Davis Gitthens. She was a LPN and a member of the First Baptist Church in De Queen.

Mrs. Schiffman was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Michael Smith of Gillham; two daughters, Diane Stepp of Guthrie, OK and Donna Pollard of Wichita, KS; 3 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Del and Kim Moon of St. Francisville, LA and Joe Kitchen of Gillham; two daughters and a son-in-law, Rita and Jim Vickery of De Queen and Jeannie Brown of Belleville, Arkansas; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Carl and Dwinda Gitthens of Prineville, OR; George and Jackie Gitthens of Havelock, NC and Kent Gitthens of Lodi, CA; one sister and brother-in-law, Treva and Gary Kingston of Scio, OR; 14 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Memorial Services for Mrs. Schiffman will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, September 6, 2007 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles Hebert officiating.

Mr. David Kenneth Humphrey

Mr. David Kenneth Humphrey, age 40, resident of De Queen, died Tuesday evening near Stilwell, Oklahoma, from injuries received in a truck accident.

He was born to Kenneth Webster and Barbara LaWray Young Humphrey at Arcadia, Calif, on January 15, 1967. He served in the military with the U. S. Army, and was a truck driver for CCC Trucking, Heavener, Okla. David attended the First Assembly of God Church of De Queen., and enjoyed hunting rocks, fishing, hunting, and his children.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert William Higgins in 1987.

He is survived by two sons, Joshua Kenneth Humphrey and Michael Kenneth Humphrey both of De Queen, one daughter, Lakota Michelle Arlene Humphrey of De Queen, his mother and step-father, Barbara and James Earl Westbrook of De Queen, his father and step-mother, Kenneth and Anetta Dean Humphrey of McKinleyville, Calif.; two brothers, Johnny Ray Higgins of Wisconsin, and Jimmy Raymond Higgins of Pine Bluff, Ark.; one sister, Tonya Lynn Golden of De Queen, one step-brother, Scotty Westbrook of De Queen, one step-sister, Sissy Arndt of De Queen, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. David Humphrey will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 1, 2007 in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Homer Frachiseur, and Rev. Ray Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow in the Overturf Cemetery, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen.
