Mr. Omma Dwayne Ray

After a heroic battle with ALS, Omma Dwayne Ray passed from this earth on Tuesday, August 28, 2007. He was born December 19, 1932 to Robert & Eleanor Dickinson Ray in Horatio, Arkansas. He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert & Eleanor Dickinson Ray; brothers, R. L. & Roy & son, Kevin.

He is survived by his loving wife, Wanda Sue Hungate Ray; sons, Larry of Dallas, TX, Steve & wife, Sherrie of Mesquite, TX; brother, Jerry Ray of DeQueen, Ark; sister-in-law, Donna McCaleb of Hot Springs, Ark; 8 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren & numerous nieces, nephews & a host of good friends. Mr. Ray served proudly as a radio operator in the Korean Conflict & was honorably discharged.

Services for Mr. Omma Dwayne Ray will be held, August 31, 2007, at 10:00 AM at the Roselawn Cemetery, 1000 S. Highway 175, Seagoville, TX 75159. (972) 287-2121

Mrs. Margaret W. Leeper

Margaret Wilson Brinkley Leeper was born December 30, 1918 in Horatio, Arkansas and died August 26, 2007 at Crystal Falls Nursing Home in De Queen, Arkansas. Margaret was the third daughter of O.T. and Effie Brinkley of Horatio. She attended primary and secondary school in Horatio and college at Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia and Arkansas Technical College in Russellville. Margaret married Walter Leeper on December 25, 1940 at the First Methodist Church in Horatio.

They set up housekeeping in Dyess, Arkansas where she taught two years. During the war years, she held various secretarial positions at the camps where Walter was stationed in the states. After the war, they settled in De Queen where her main interests were her children, her church and her bridge games with her friends. Later in life, her grandson was her greatest joy.

Margaret is survived by her Husband, Walter Leeper, her two daughters, Marcia Buford and her husband, Steve, of Horatio and Marianne Leeper of Athens, Texas, her grandson, Tom Parsons of Texarkana and his wife Tobi and great-granddaughter, Camryn.

Funeral Services for Margaret will be held Tuesday, August 28, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Methodist Church in De Queen with Rev. Dr. Rockey Starnes officiating. Burial will follow in the Redman Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Monday, August 27th at the funeral home.

Mrs. Laqueta Irons

Mrs. Laqueta Joy Gray Irons, age 74, resident of Alleene, Arkansas, died Wednesday, August 22, 2007, at her home.
She was born to Charles Boston and Carrie Mae Deal Gray at Horatio, Arkansas, on June 3, 1933. She was a Protestant and a homemaker.. She enjoyed fishing, bingo, sewing, and spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by a son, Tracy Allen Irons, and her husband, Delbert Irons.

She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Tom Ervin of Winthrop, Billy Wayne and Roxanne Shepard of Pinellas Park, Florida, and Cary Philip and Mary Irons of Star City, Arkansas, three daughters and sons-in-law, Karen Paulette and Arthur Hassey of Fall River, Massachusetts, Debra Arlene and J. R. Irons of Phoenix, Arizona, and Gerry Baker of Alleene, Ark. two brothers, Travis Gray of El Centro, Calif.; and Jerry Wayne Gray of Lyons, Oregon, one sister, Frances “Tootsie” Tipton of Casa Grande, Arizona, eighteen grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, and two great- great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be at a later date. Arrangements by Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen.

Mr. Randy Huston

Randy Alan Huston, age 48, a resident of De Queen, died Tuesday, January 8, 2008 in the De Queen Medical Center.

He was born January 27, 1959 in Decatur, IN to William "Bill" and Lois McAnelly Huston. He attended the boggy Springs Full Gospel Church.

He was preceded in death by his father, and a nephew, Lance Corporal Seth Huston.

He is survived by his mother, Lois Huston of De queen; one son, Gary franks of Lockesburg, AR; three brothers: David Huston of Broken bow, OK, Steven Huston of Perryton, TX, and Michael Huston of Cartwright, OK; three sisters: Cheryl Huston and Susan McGuffin, both of De Queen, and Kathy Parr of New Boston, TX; a number of nieces and nephews, and longtime friends: Nina Garcia, Dennis Staggs, and Josh Smith.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 11, 2008 in the Wilkerson funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Floyd Wright officiating. Burial will follow in the Redmen Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, January 10, 2008 at the funeral home.

Barbara Clarice Kalk

Barbara Clarice Kalk, age 69, a resident of De Queen, AR died Monday, January 7, 2008 at her home.

She was born October 4, 1938 in Anaheim, CA to Manuel and Jewel Marcella Ferry Page. She was a homemaker and enjoyed working in her lawn and garden.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas James Kalk.

She is survived by two daughters, Marya McCormack of De Queen and Sara Harris of Casper, Wyoming; six grandchildren, Chandler Pogue, Randi Pogue, Casey Pettit, Montana Pettit, Kaley Pettit and Kylie Pettit; two sons, Ron Pettit and Randy Pettit of Ramona, CA; two brothers, Dale Page of San Francisco, CA and Sonny Page of Santa Barbara, CA; and her mother Jewel Ewing of San Diego, CA.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 19, 2008 at her home, 321 N. 6th St. in De Queen. Everyone is welcome.

Mr. Andrew Terry Upton

Andrew Terry Upton, age 87, a resident of Lockesburg, Arkansas died Saturday, January 5, 2008 in De Queen.

He was born June 17, 1920 in Lockesburg, Arkansas to R.P. and Della Ferguson Upton. He was a self employed television and refrigeration repairman, served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was a member of the Old Union Missionary Baptist Church.

Graveside Funeral Services for Mr. Upton will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 7, 2008 in the Old Union Cemetery in Lockesburg, Arkansas with Rev. J.L. Walker officiating under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

Mrs. Zella Cox Stephenson

Mrs. Zella Cox Stephenson, a current resident at the Dierks Nursing and Rehab, died January 3, 2008. She had just celebrated her 98th birthday.

She was born December 17, 1909, to Dudley and Ida Mae Maples Cox, in the Provo Community near Lockesburg, Arkansas. She was a member of the McHorse Baptist Church and former resident of the Kolbtown Community near Dierks, Arkansas.

Mrs. Stephenson was married to Rev. Turnage Stephenson who preceded her in death. They had no children. Mrs. Stephenson had six siblings who also preceded her in death, Horace Cox, Harvy Cox, Hucy Cox, Susie Cox, Troy Cox, and Zular Cox Gilbert. She is survived by her nephews, Hercel B. Cox of the Green’s Chapel Community, Delbert Cox of Bedford, Texas and Windell Cox also of the Green’s Chapel Community; one niece, Dean Cody of Casa, Arkansas and several grand nephews and grand nieces. She was a beloved Christian mentor to three generations of Coxes.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Stephenson will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 5, 2008 in the McHorse Baptist Church with Bro. Larry Frye and Fred Cox, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the McHorse Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in Dierks.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, January 4th at the funeral home in Dierks.

Mr. Howard Jones

Mr. Howard Allen Jones, age 60, a resident of De Queen, Ark., died Sunday, December 30th at his home.

He was born to John Luther and Ersie Capps Jones at De Queen, Arkansas, on July 25, 1947. He was a member of the Rose Hill Missionary Baptist Church, and was a private investigator. He enjoyed cattle, gardening, and deer hunting.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and all his siblings, James E., Edward, and J. L. Jones and Mildred Ferguson.

He is survived by his wife of over 38 years, Sue Gray Jones of De Queen, and a number of nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his wife’s family, his mother-in-law, Lou Gray of De Queen, and a sister-in-law, Eddie Lou and her husband, Larry Watson of Southaven, Miss.

Funeral Services for Mr. Howard Jones will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 2, 2008 in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Moody officiating. Burial will follow in the Valley Cemetery, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen.

Ida “Bernice” Reid

Funeral services for Ida “Bernice” Reid, 80, of Lovington, New Mexico are 2:00 pm Monday, December 31, 2007 at 3rd & Central Church of Christ with Dale Rhodes and Jimmy Derrick officiating. Burial will follow at Lovington Cemetery.

Mrs. Reid was born September 18, 1927 in De Queen, Arkansas. She passed away December 28, 2007 in Lovington, New Mexico. She married Weldon Reid on May 8, 1948 in De Queen, Arkansas.

Bernice and Weldon moved to Lovington in 1969 from Texarkana. She has been a member of 3rd & Central Church of Christ for 38 years. She at one time worked at Clays and then later at Turner’s. She enjoyed playing “42” with her family and friends. She was foremost a homemaker, loving and nurturing her family and serving God.

She is survived by her husband, Weldon, of the home; two sons, Stan Reid and wife Laynne of Austin, Texas and Gary Reid and wife Karyn of Flagstaff, Arizona; one sister, Nita Green of Brownsboro, Texas; two brothers, Hubert Williams and wife Dot of De Queen, Arkansas and Doyle Williams and wife Louise of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hilliard and Wilma Barnes Williams and one sister, Irene Brown.

Sarah Agnes Harris

Sarah Agnes Harris passed from this earth December 27. 2007.

She was born February 6, 1919 to Fred and Zella Sharp Clay in Lockesburg. She was a member of the Greens Chapel Methodist Church and was loved by her family and everyone who knew her.

Mrs. Harris was preceded in death by two husbands, Doyal Tabler and Truby Harris; two sons: Mike Harris and Lloyd Dale Tabler; and five brothers: Rufus "Mutt" Clay, Fred "Toad" Clay, Thurman Clay, Doyle Rufus Clay and an infant brother and sisters.

She is survived by one brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Barbara Clay of Crestview, Florida; two daughters and sons-in-law: Aubrey and Jackie Jones of Talent, Oregon and Sharon and Charles Ransom of Fairfield Bay, Arkansas; four grandchildren: Kenny and Diane Tabler, Julie and Scott Jones, and Chase Ransom; two great-grandsons: Kevin Bergman and Todd Dallas, and one great-granddaughter, Brittany Dallas.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Harris will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 30, 2007 in the Greens Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in Dierks.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday, December 29th at the funeral home in Dierks.

Mrs. Kathie Ethel Shinn

Mrs. Katie Ethel Shinn, age 102, a resident of Lockesburg died Friday, December 29, 2007 in the Howard Memorial Hospital in Nashville, Arkansas.

She was born March 11, 1905 in Lockesburg to Richard and Annie Belle Williams Elkins. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church in Lockesburg.

Mrs. Shinn was preceded in death by her husband, Robbie, Dewitt Shinn. She was survived by one son and daughter-in0-law, Danny and Leona Shinn of Bridgeport, Texas; one daughter, Bobbie Simmons of Lockesburg; 7 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Shinn will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 29, 2007 in the First Baptist Church in Lockesburg with Rev. Jack Gilliland officiating. Burial will follow in the Coulter Memorial Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

Mr. Earl Daniel McCoy

Mr. Earl Daniel McCoy, age 84, a resident of Horatio, passed from this life on Thursday, December 27, 2007 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born Sunday, October 21, 1923 in West Otis, Arkansas to Kenny and Vickie Sharp McCoy. He was a retired truck driver, a cattleman, and a member of the First Baptist Church in Horatio.

Mr. McCoy was preceded in death by his first wife, Norma Jean Davis McCoy, his brother, Burl Edwin “Runt” McCoy; one son, Earl Daniel “Sonny” McCoy, Jr.; his son-in-law, Bill Dyer, Jr. and his nephew, Jimmy McCoy.

He is survived by his wife, Ruthie McCoy of Horatio; two step-daughters, Linda Davis of Tallahassee, Florida and Glenda Dyer of Newport, Arkansas; five step-granddaughters, Nicki Litchford of Horatio, Jodi King of Nashville, Arkansas, Kelli Barton of Magnolia, Arkansas, Elizabeth Davis of Paris, France and Brooke Davis of New York City, New York; one nephew, Dale McCoy of De Queen; three nieces, Pam Davis of Lodi, Arkansas, Cindy McCoy of Haworth, OK, and Sharon Wax of Horatio; 6 step-great-grandchildren and a number of great-nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. McCoy will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 29, 2007 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Coy Arnold officiating. Burial will follow in the West Otis Cemetery in Horatio.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, December 28th at the funeral home.
