Mr. Larry Green

Mr. Larry Green age 59, a resident of De Queen, died Sunday, February 24, 2008, in Cornerstone Hospital, Bossier City, La., from injuries received in a train accident in October.

He was born to Thurman Young and Ida Ella Sillavan Green on November 28, 1948, at Dierks, Arkansas. He was a veteran of the Vietname War, having served in the U. S. Army. He was an engineer for the D.&E.T.O.&E. Railroad with 36 years service, and was a member of the Memorial Missionary Baptist Church. He enjoyed Gospel Singings, Trail Riding, Motorcycle riding, and doing for others.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Sonia Hankins in 2007. He is survived by his wife, Laurie Cloud Green of De Queen, two sons and a daughter-in-law, Billy and Sandra Green of Owasso, Okla.; and Tim Green of Duncan, Okla.; one brother, Jesse “Sonny” Green of Martinez, Calif.; two sisters, Anna Sue Nelson of De Queen, and Nora Dean Cunningham of De Queen, five grandchildren, Cheyenne, Harleigh, Elizabeth, Dallas, and Alexis, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Larry Green will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 26, 2008 in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joe Carlton officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Ida Cemetery, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen.

The family will received friends at the funeral home on Monday, February 25th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Ednel H. Gibbons

Rev. Ednel H. Gibbons, age 87, a resident of Cove, Arkansas, died Thursday, February 21, 2008 in the National park Medical Center, Hot Springs, Arkansas.

He was born to William Marcus and Melissa Ann Parker Gibbons at Athens, Arkansas, on March 4, 1920. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U. S. Navy. He was a Minister of The Gospel, and was retired pastor of the Nix Chapel Church in Horatio. In addition, he was a retired logger, sawmill operator, and carpenter. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, woodworking, and Gospel Singings.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Denverd Gibbons, two sisters, Ora Belle Bailey, and Doyce Crawford, and in 1983, his first wife, Cleora Bailey Gibbons.

He is survived by his wife, Nettie Jane Hutson Gibbons, of Cove, three daughters and sons-in-law, Virginia G. and Charlie Smith of Hughes, Ark.; Lucille and Emmett Gadberry, Jr. of Hughes, Arkansas; and Faye and Hershell Janes of De Queen, one step-son, Darris Burk and his wife, Alicia, of Cove, Ark.; one brother, Fairol Gibbons of Cove, Ark.; and one sister, Velma Rowton of Kelso, Washington, 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Bro. Ednel Gibbons will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, February 24, 2008, in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Green’s Chapel Cemetery, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will receive friends at funeral home on Saturday, February 23rd from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Ellen Vanessa Harris

Mrs. Ellen Vanessa Harris, age 59, a resident of De Queen, died Wednesday, February 20, 2008 in the Little River Memorial Hospital in Ashdown, Arkansas.

She was born August 13, 1948 to Alfred and Doris Clark Williamson. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.

Mrs. Harris was preceded in death by her father.

She is survived by her husband, Sam Harris; one son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Marianne Harris of Yakima, Washington; two grandchildren, Cody Harris and Samantha Harris; her mother, Doris Williamson of Horatio; three sisters, Jeannie Schaffer of Garland, Texas, Sandy Elgin of Horatio, and Brenda Chiarizio of Ashdown; two brothers, Alfred Ray Williamson of Jacksonville, Florida and Paul Williamson of England; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Harris will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, February 25, 2008 in the Williamson Community Church with Rev. Jimmy Roden officiating. Burial will follow in the Clear Creek Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., Sunday, February 24th at the funeral home.

Barbara Jeanne Larimore Potts

Mrs. Barbara Jeanne Larimore Potts, age 80, a resident of De Queen, died Sunday February 17, 2008 in the De Queen Medical Center.

She was born July 10, 1927 in De Queen to George and Johnnie Goche Larimore. She was the owner of Klothes Korner Dress Shop and a member of the First Baptist Church in De Queen.

Mrs. Potts was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Donovan Potts on October 19, 2001; one sisters, Elizabeth Katherine Smith; and two brothers: Charles Russell Larimore and George John Larimore.

She is survived by one son, Larry "Bud" Potts of De Queen; two daughters: Donna Lou Derington of De Queen and Susie Cobb Joplin of Horatio; two sisters: Marceline Robinson and Olivia Romine both of De Queen; five grandchildren: Clint, Dee, Tish, Will, and Sam; and one great-grandson, Joshua Paul; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Potts will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 20, 2008 in the Redmen Cemetery with Rev. Charles Hebert officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 19th at the funeral home.

Donald Ray Johnson

Mr. Donald Ray Johnson, age 70, a resident of Lockesburg, died Friday, February 15, 2008 in the Dubuis Hospital in Texarkana, Texas.

He was born February 8, 1938 in Layton, Pennsylvania to Robert and Ethel Knight Johnson. He was a migrant worker.

Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by one sister, Ethel Lyles of Lockesburg; his companion, Dorothy Griffin also of Lockesburg; 4 step-children and a number of nieces and nephews.

Memorial Services are pending.

Melvin Loy Jones

Mr. Melvin Loy Jones, age 79, a resident of Dierks, died Friday, February 15, 2008 in Dierks.

He was born January 6, 1929 in Dierks, Arkansas to Wesley and Frances Jackson Jones. He was a Ranger for the Arkansas Forestry Commission, a member of the Oak Hill Masonic Lodge, and a U.S. Army having served in the Korean Conflict.

Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sue Jones; three brothers, Jesse Jones, Nolen Jones, and Obie Jones; and one sister, Marie Jones.

He is survived by his step-son, Bruce Stephens and his wife, Jeannie of Dierks; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces.

Funeral Services for Mr. Jones will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 18, 2008 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel in Dierks with Johnny Arnold officiating. Burial will follow in the Hickory Grove Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, February 17th at the funeral home in Dierks.

Janey Berneice Hilton

Janey Berneice Hilton of Winthrop was born February 23, 1919 to Harry and Vennie Taylor in America, Oklahoma. She went to be with the Lord on February 14, 2008 in Ashdown, Arkansas. She was a beloved member of Winthrop Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Raymond and her husband of almost 51 years, Eugene H. Hilton.

She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Brenda Tyson of Groves, Texas, Rusty and Vicki Hilton of Port Neches, Texas and Steve and Geri Hilton of Prescott, Arkansas; 13 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and a host of friends.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Hilton will he held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 16, 2008 in the Winthrop Baptist Church with Bro. Audie Dawson officiating. Burial will follow in the Campground Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

Lilian Rose Lynn DeVasier

Mrs. Lilian Rose Lynn DeVasier, age 82, resident of De Queen, died Wednesday, February 13, 2008 in the De Queen Medical Center, De Queen.

She was born to William and Florence Alice Johnson Lynn at Elm, Wisbech, England, on January 23, 1926. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents, in 1981, her husband, Harry E. DeVasier, and in 1991, her grandchildren, Brandon and Ashley DeVasier.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Carolyn DeVasier of Roseburg, Oregon, and Kevin and Kisha DeVasier of Dierks, Ark.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Delores Ann and Raymond Marker of Kempner, Texas, and Susie and Charles Morris of Horatio, Ark.; three brothers, Noel Lynn, Keith Lynn, and Ralph Lynn all of England, one sister, Audrey Baxter of England, seven grandchildren, Mary Butcha, Logan, Heather, and Shawn DeVasier, Chris, and Todd Marker, and Natasha McCoy, and eleven great-grandchildren, as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, February 17, 2008 in the Greens Chapel Cemetery with Rev. Billy Don Weeks officiating, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen.

Wanda Schloh

Mrs. Wanda Katherine Kirkendall Schloh, age 91, a resident of De Queen, Arkansas, and former resident of Wickes, Ark. died Thursday, February 14, 2008 in the De Queen Medical Center.

She was born to Harrison Runyan and Lydia Burd Kirkendall at Natoma, Kansas on November 3, 1916. She was a member of the Wickes First United Methodist Church and the De Queen First United Methodist Church, and was a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, bird watching, and working.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, and one sister.

She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Martha Jean Callahan of Danville, Ark. and Sheila and James Morris of De Queen, six grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, seven great-great grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. a special friend, Barbara DeMarce and a special caregiver, Monica Thompson.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Wanda Schloh will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the Daniel Cemetery, Wickes, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, February 15th

James Archie Hankins

Mr. James Archie Hankins, age 82, a resident of De Queen, died Thursday, February 14, 2008 in the De Queen Medical Center.

He was born September 29, 1925 in Gillham, Arkansas to James and Minnie Birge Hankins. He was a master electrician, served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of the First Baptist Church in De Queen.

Mr. Hankins was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Leonard; one sister, Paralee; two half-brothers, Leroy and Charlie; and two half-sisters, Effie and Clearsie.

He is survived by his wife, Beverley Heidelberger Hankins; two sons, Charles Hankins and Dennis Hankins both of Texas; one daughter, Diane Hankins of California; one step-son, Richard Francis Morrison of Houston, Texas; two brothers, Donald Hankins and Dale Hankins both of De Queen.

Graveside Funeral Services for Mr. Hankins will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 16, 2008 in the Valley Cemetery in Gillham with Rev. Dale Hankins officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
