Thelma Frances Moore Parker

Thelma Frances Moore Parker age 74 of Hunter, died Saturday April 26 at St. Michael's Hospital in Texarkana, TX. She was the widow of Gerald Parker.

Survivors include her son, Donald Parker and wife Kathy of De Queen, AR. Brother Frank Moore and wife Peggy of Memphis, TN. Sisters: Hazel Oxner of Brinkley, Bea Elliott of Memphis, TN. and Irene Burns and husband Tom of Hughes. 6 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren & 7 Step Grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 2 sons: Benny and Michael Parker, grandson, Michael Gerald Parker and 8 brothers and sisters.

The family will gather at Bob Neal & Son Funeral Home-Brinkley, Monday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. to visit with family and friends.

Funeral Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday morning at the Hunter Baptist Church with Burial at Whitehall Cemetery North of Hunter.

James Howard Arnold

James Howard Arnold, age 86, a resident of Dierks, Arkansas died Sunday, April 27, 2008 at the Howard Memorial Hospital in Nashville.

Mr. Arnold was born November 30, 1921 in Turkey, Texas to Virgil and Luelling Howard Arnold. He was a retired shipping clerk and security guard for Weyerhaeuser Co., was a cattleman, a member of the Dierks First United Methodist Church and the Arkansas Cattleman’s Association and was an Air Force Veteran having served in World War II.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Wilma Balch Arnold; one daughter and son-in-law Madonna and Michael Hill of Dierks, Arkansas; one grandson and his wife, Damon and Lisa Hill of Fayetteville, Arkansas; one granddaughter and her husband, April and Brian Mashburn of Little Rock, Arkansas; three great-granddaughters, Taylor and Rylee Hill and Bailey Mashburn.

Funeral services for Mr. Arnold will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 29, 2008 in the First United Methodist Church in Dierks with Rev. Gary Wiles and Rev. Ellis Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunshine Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in Dierks.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday, April 28, 2008 at the Dierks Chapel.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Jack Nathan Stafford

Mr. Jack Nathan Stafford, age 72, a resident of De Queen, died Sunday, April 27, 2008 in the Christus St. Michael Health System, Texas.

He was born to James Samuel and Bertha May Chandler Stafford at Dierks, Arkansas, on February 6, 1936. He worked as a logger in Oregon, a superintendent of Campell Brothers Construction in the Dallas area, and was a farmer and rancher for the past 36 years in the West Otis Community. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, working cattle, and barbequing for family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Cecil Stafford.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy Smith Stafford of De Queen, three sons and daughters-in-law, Stacy and Iva Gail Stafford of Harrell, Ark.; Michael and Kathy Baker of Longview, Texas, and Kenny Baker of Avery, Texas; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lydia and Jim Landrum and Rallye Erwin all of Terrell, Texas, four brothers and sisters-in-law, Curtis and Pat Stafford of Eagletown, Okla.; Luther and Bobbie Stafford of De Queen, Willis “Bump” Stafford of Prineville, Oregon, and Joe and Nancy Stafford of De Queen, thirteen grandchildren, one great-grandson, and a special friend and neighbor, Dan, and his wife Evelyn Ford of De Queen, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 30, 2008 in the West Otis Cemetery with Rev. Wesley Blankenship and Rev. J. L. Walker officiating, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, April 29th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Pallbearers will be Cliff Stafford, William Stafford, Jeff Stafford, Jamie McClendon, Ricky Robinette, Ben Erwin, Preston Smith, John Landrum, and Wesley Landrum. Memorials may be made to the Jack Stafford Memorial Scholarship Fund, Horatio State Bank, Horatio.

Lee Roy Simpson

Lee Roy (Buck) Simpson or Arlington, TX died on April 13,2008 peacefully in his sleep at home. Mr. Simpson was born December 10, 1924 in De Queen, AR

He was a Master Plumber, Master Mason, UAW Member, Worked for Vought Aircraft for 33 years, Boy Scout Leader, Member of Meadow Lane Baptist Church & President of the Brookview Swim Club.

He is survived by: His wife of 53 years: Frankie Jean Simpson. Children: Pam Grooms, Leland Roy Simpson, Derris Crockett & Connie Parker. He was preceded in death by Gayland Crockett & Gerald Simpson. Spouses of Children: Alice Crockett, Sharon Crockett & Loy Parker. Brothers: Robert Simpson; preceded in death by J.B. Simpson & Buster Simpson. Sisters: Sybil Day, Sadie Pearson, Martha Ness & Mildred Boyd; preceded in death by Annabelle Duggan. Grandchildren: Crystal Grooms, Tiffannie Grooms, Danielle Grooms, Keith Crockett, Adam Crockett, Barry Crockett, Sharla Parker & Clint Parker. Great Grandchildren: Courtney Mae Styne & Haley Crockett.

Extended Family: Zada & Bill Pemberton.

Roger Wayne Elliott

Funeral services for Mr. Roger Wayne Elliott, age 55, of Ruston will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Sunday, April 27, 2008 at Christ Community Church in Ruston. Officiating the services will be Rev. Dickie Love and Rev. Len Woods. Interment will follow at Mt. Ida Cemetery in De Queen, AR with graveside services to be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, April 28, 2008. Local arrangements are under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston.

Mr. Elliott was born November 9, 1952 at Barksdale Air Force Base and passed away on April 24, 2008 following a lengthy illness.

Mr. Elliott was a member of the Christ Community Church, Association of Surgical Technologists, Beta Chapter, Sigma Phi Epsilon and, National Peruvian Horse Association. He also served his country for over 6 years in the United States Air Force having been recognized with: the Air Force Longevity Service Ribbon, the Air Force Commendation Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Air Force Good Conduct Medal.

He is survived by his wife Denise A. Elliott; son: Jordan Elliott and wife Erin of Petal, MS; step-daughter: Kirsten and daughter Sophia; father L.P. Elliott, Jr. and step- mother Dee Ann Elliott; sisters: Julia Elliot of De Queen, AR, Kerry (Elliott) Harrison and husband Kent and their son Grant of Hot Springs AR, Donna (Elliott) Cameron and husband Wayne of Texarkana, AR; brother: Greg Elliott and partner Jerry Hooker of Little Rock AR; nephew: David Harrison and wife Melody and their children Will and Seth of North Little Rock, AR; niece: Jennifer Jones and husband Cory and her son Aidan of Texarkana, TX aunts: Jimmie Stinnett of De Queen AR, Joy Tutt of De Queen, AR and Lieselotte Elliott of Bossier City, LA; uncles: R.B. Elliott of Bossier City, LA, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Elliott of Horatio AR, and Mr. and Mrs. Donald Elliot of Big Bear City CA; one grandchild and host of cousins and distant relatives.

Pallbearers will be Dr. Jim Finley, Dr. Derek McClusky, Dr. C.W. (Bill) Tanner, Dr. Robert Harper, Dr. Richard Ballard, Dr. Randy McWhorter, Dr. John Brooks and Dr. David Osafo.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. Wayne Owens and the remainder of North Louisiana Medical Center and Green Clinic Surgical Hospital Staff.

Visitation will be Saturday, April 26, 2008 from 5 – 7 P.M. at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston and Monday, April 28, 2008 from 10 A.M. till 12 Noon at Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen, AR.

The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. David Osafo and the Chemo Staff at Green Clinic and to the Agagpe Hospice Staff for their assistance during Roger’s illness.

Memorials may be sent to the Building Fund of Christ Community Church at 2301 N. Trenton – Ruston, LA 71270, the Cemetery Fund of Mt. Ida Cemetery, or the charity of donors’ choice.

Lulie Carver

Mary Lucy “Lulie” Carver

Mary Lucy “Lulie” Carver, age 80, a resident of Falls Chapel, Arkansas, died Wednesday, April 23, 2008 in the Christus St. Michael Health System, Texarkana, Texas.

She was born to Otis Lee and Mary Etta Brooks Carver in the Falls Chapel Community of Sevier County, Arkansas, on January 10, 1928. She was a member of the Falls Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and enjoyed genealogy, and painting.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, John Brooks Carver, and Raymond Wright Carver, a sister, Ida Faye Vann. She is survived by three brothers, Hugh Allen Carver of Mineral Springs, Arkansas, Ed Carver and Tommy Carver both of Falls Chapel, Arkansas, three sisters, Betty Crow of Provo, Arkansas, Sarah Smart of Falls Chapel, Arkansas, and Laura Jones of Hot Springs, Arkansas, 20 nieces and nephews, 37 great-nieces and nephews, and a number of great-great-nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mary Carver will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 26, 2008 in the Falls Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Rev. Ann Holley officiating. Burial will follow in the Falls Chapel Cemetery, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. Pallbearers will be nephews. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, April 25th.

Edna L. Matchett

Edna L. Matchett, age 98, a resident of Houston, TX and former resident of DeQueen, AR died Sunday, April 20, 2008 in Houston.

She was born March 6, 1910 in Ft. Worth, TX to Joe and Ann Wolverton Hudson. She was a homemaker, a member of the First Baptist Church in Houston, and with her husband owned and operated the Westinghouse Laundromat in DeQueen, and for several years before moving to Houston she was employed by the Sevier County Library.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank D. Matchett in 1970; a son, E.B. Crawford in 1961; a daughter Joe Ann McCann in 1970; and a step-son, Robert Matchett in 2003.

She is survived by a daughter, Nancy Squires of Houston; a step-son, Frank W. Matchett of Round Rock, TX; a step-daughter, Laura Pope of San Antonio, TX; 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Matchett will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 25, 2008 in the Redmen Cemetery with Rev. Charles Hebert officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

Harold A. Belcher

Mr. Harold A. Belcher, age 84, a resident of Texarkana, Texas, and former resident of Lockesburg, Arkansas, went home to Heaven at 9:00 p.m., on April 19th surrounded by his family.

He was born in Chicago, Illinois, on September 11, 1923, and was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U. S. Navy. He was retired from the Red River Army Depot, as well as a farmer. He was a member of the VFW, and was a Baptist. He enjoyed working his vegetable garden, playing Skip bo, and raising cattle, prior to moving to Texarkana.

He is survived by his wife of over 55 years, Thelma Lucille Gray Belcher of Texarkana, Texas, two daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Wayne Williamson of De Queen, and Cathy and Webb Cole of De Berry, Texas, three grandchildren, Brian and his wife, Kimmie Williamson of Bryant, Arkansas, Amber Williamson of Little Rock, Ark.; and a great-grandson, Avery Williamson of Bryant, Arkansas, and a number of nieces and nephews, as well as other family members and a host of friends.

Graveside Services for Mr. Harold A. Belcher will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 22, 2008 in the Belleville Cemetery with Rev. Jack Gilliland officiating, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, April 21st from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association, 211 Natural Resources Dr., Little Rock, Ark., the American Cancer Society, or a charity of your choice.
