Martha Ellen Wilcher

Martha Ellen Wilcher, age 84, of Wickes, AR passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2008 in Dierks.

she was born to Frank and Laura Cook on October 23, 1923 east of Wickes, AR. She lived in Wickes most of her life. She was a member of the Pentecostal Church of Wickes, AR.

She married Marvin Wilcher December 24, 1940. He preceded her in death January 19, 1977. She is also preceded by her daughter, Louise Bryant on November 4, 1996.

Mrs. Wilcher is survived by three daughters: Shirlene Hackworth, Wathenia McCauley, and Anita Watson, all of Wickes; 10 grandchildren., 16 great-grandchildren, 6 step-great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; one sister: Ida Cook of Creston, Iowa, as well as several nieces and nephews.

funeral services for Mrs. Martha Wilcher will be held Saturday, April 19, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the Wickes Pentecostal Church of God with Bro. Chris Burke and Bro, Larry Davis officiating. Interment will follow at Crystal Hill Cemetery under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral H9ome.

Pallbearers will be Andy McCauley, Keith Bryant, Steve Bryant, Stanley Jewell, Billy Hackworth, and Jody Watson.

Beulah Alline Byram Pearce

Beulah Alline Byram Pearce, age 94, a resident of De Queen, died Tuesday, April 15, 2008 in the De Queen Medical Center.

She was born May 10, 1913 in Henrietta, Texas to Walter and Kate Byram. She was a homemaker and a member of the Friendship Baptist Church.

Mrs. Pearce was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband Paul Pearce on June 7, 1986.

She is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Bob and Ruth Pearce of Choctaw, Oklahoma, Bill and Lou Pearce of De Queen, Jack and Betty Pearce of Mena, and Jim and Shirley Pearce of De Queen; 9 grandchildren and number of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Pearce will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 19, 2008 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. George Frachiseur officiating. Burial will follow in the Chapel Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, April 18th at the funeral home.

William E. "Sonny" Trusley

Mr. William E. “Sonny” Trusley, a resident of Lockesburg, died Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at his home.

He was born January 23, 1930 in Lockesburg to John and Grace White Trusley. He was retired from Great Northern Railroad Company in Seattle, Washington, a truck driver for 20 years, and a farmer. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of the First Baptist Church in Lockesburg.

Mr. Trusley is survived by his wife of 55 years, Helen Austin Trusley of Lockesburg; two sons, Billy Trusley and Jimmy Trusley both of Lockesburg; two daughters, Sandra Priest Gabbard of Nashville, Arkansas and Carolyn Davis of De Queen; one brother, John E. Trusley of Ashdown; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services for Mr. Trusley will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 18, 2008 in the Lockesburg First Baptist Church with Rev. Jack Gilliland officiating. Burial will follow in the Lockesburg Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, April 17th at the funeral home.

Cloyd “Babe” Neal

Mr. Cloyd “Babe” Neal, Jr., age 74, a resident of De Queen, died Friday, April 11, 2008 in the V. A. Hospital, Shreveport, La.

He was born to Cloyd, Sr., and Lois Wright Neal at Lockesburg, Arkansas, on February 23, 1933. He owned and operated a Taxie Cab Service in Kansas City, for 29 years before his retirement. He was a member of the New Zion Baptist Church of De Queen, a veteran of the Korean Conflict, having served in the U. S. Army, and enjoyed listening to music, board games, and visiting with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and four brothers, George “Eudy” Neal, Richard Nelson, Othe Nelson, and J. W. Nelson.

He is survived by one daughter, Sylvia Darlene Harris of Idabel, Okla.; two grandsons, Tony Tyrone Harris of Broken Bow, Okla.; and Larry Lynn Harris of Oklahoma City, OK, eight great-grandchildren, Shantell, Terrance, Shakira, Saleah, Jalen, Jaquan, Jayshad, and Jalil Harris, one brother, Thurman “Tony” Nelson of Arizona, one sister, Mae Willa Oler of Pittsburg, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Betty Neal of De Queen, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Sarah Jean Johnson Thompson

Mrs. Sarah Jean Johnson Thompson, age 62, a resident of Horatio, and former resident of Carlsbad, New Mexico, died Saturday, April 12, 2008 at the home of her brother, Donnell Johnson.

She was born to Ocie and Pinkie Wherry Johnson at DeKalb, Texas, on November 20, 1945. She was a member of the Mt. Phebia Baptist Church of Horatio, and was a former member of the Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, where she served on the Missionary Board, in the choir, and as secretary.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Arnetha Harp, Betty McNeal, Carrie Griffin, two brothers, Burel Eugene Johnson, and Johnny Johnson, and her husband, Bennie C. Thompson.

She is survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Donnell & Debra Johnson of Horatio, and Billy Joe and Wanda Johnson of Texarkana, Ark.; three sisters, Dorothy Dixon, and Marie Owens both of DeKalb, Texas, and Hazel Ingram-Nair of Carlsbad, New Mexico, two sisters-in-law, Shirley Johnson of Horatio, and Thelma Hudson of Carlsbad, New Mexico, a brother-in-law, Jessie McNeal of Carlsbad, New Mexico, a special niece, Mary Joyce Royal-Williams of Dallas, Texas, as well as other family members.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Sarah Thompson will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 19, 2008 in the Mt. Phebia Baptist Church, Horatio, Ark. with Rev. Wiley Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Ridge Cemetery, DeKalb, Texas, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, April 18th.

Loretta Mary Estes

Loretta Mary Estes, age 76, of Mena, passed away Sunday, April 13, 2008 at her home.

She was born August 12, 1931 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Harry Marvin Smith and the late Emmy Elizabeth Graton Smith. Mrs. Estes was a machine operator for U. S. Electrical Motors for many years. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend.

Survivors are:

Children: Teresa Henderson Christine Hahn and husband Adam April Reed Joseph Reed John Reed Laura Perez Allen Blackwell and wife Dee

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry Marvin and Emmy Elizabeth Smith, sons, Michael A. Reed, and Patrick D. Reed, sisters, Patricia Scott and Dona Smith and a grandchild, Patrick T. Reed.

Mass of Christian burial will be Thursday, April 17, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Agnes Catholic Church with Father Norbert Rappold, Father Emmanuel Iheaka and Father Ernest Hardesty as Celebrants. Interment will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.

Visitation with family and friends will be Wednesday, April 16, 2008 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.

A Rosary will be said Wednesday, April 16, 2008 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the St. Agnes Catholic Church, which will be open to everyone.

Pallbearers will be Joseph Reed, John Reed, Louis Good, Bill Scott, Ryan Blackwell, Donnie Thomas, Daniel Howard, Dennis Richardson, and Adam Wood.

Roy Lee McKenzie

Mr. Roy Lee McKenzie, age 51, a resident of Wickes, Arkansas died Sunday, April 13, 2008 in the De Queen Medical Center.

He was born July 18, 1956 in De Queen to Alvin and Estelle Darity McKenzie. He was a U.S. Marine.

Mr. McKenzie was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Denise McKenzie of Vandervoort, Arkansas; a daughter and son-in-law, Kristi and Larry Pennington of Wickes, Arkansas; three brothers, Alvin McKenzie and Melton McKenzie both of Grannis, Arkansas and Robert Petty of Alma, Arkansas; four sisters, Micki McKenzie of Wickes, Jackie Noey, Radonna Brandon and Ola Comer all of De Queen; nine grandchildren, Lane, Keenan, Brenna, Dalton, Kailyn, Aiden, Caleb, Rachel and Brooklyn; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside Funeral Services for Mr. McKenzie will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 15, 2008 in the Millcreek Cemetery in Gillham with Rev. Don Alexander officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Monday, April 14th at the funeral home.

Harvey F. Butler

Harvey F. Butler, age 76, a resident of Foreman, AR died Friday, April 11, 2008 at a Texarkana Hospital.

He was born October 27, 1931 in Brownstown, AR to R.W. and Dorothy Stoker Butler. He was retired heavy equipment operator for Ashgrove Cement. He was an avid bass fisherman and deer hunter, past president of the Foreman Riding Club, past president of Shirts and Skirts Squaredance Club in Alleene, AR and a member of the Foreman Assembly of God.

Mr. Butler was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Jean Broomfield Butler; two brothers, Percy and Cecil Butler.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Milam Butler; one son, Harvey Alan Butler of Texarkana, AR; one daughter, Dorothy E. Foster of Wickes, AR; two step-sons, Shane and T.J. Mears of Foreman, AR; four brothers, Jake Butler of Ennis, TX, Raford Butler of Foreman, AR, Vernon Butler of Idabel, OK and Charles Butler of Horatio, AR; four sisters, Shirley Oglesby of Foreman, AR, Helen Smith and Mary Lincoln of Haworth, OK, Lucille Henderson of Foreman, AR; three grandsons, Nathaniel Butler, Daniel Butler and Jarrod Mears; three granddaughters, Morgan Butler, Courtney Thomas and Jordan Mears.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, April 14, 2008 in the Winthrop Baptist Church with Rev. J.L. Walker and Rev. Audie Dawson officiating. Burial will follow in the Campground Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

Jerry Wayne Shinn

Jerry Wayne Shinn, 72, of Hatfield, passed away at his home Wednesday, April 9, 2008 surrounded by loving family, after battling Leukemia.

He was born June 5, 1935 in Lockesburg, Arkansas to the late Lester Shinn and to Dorothy Reeder Shinn. He attended Lockesburg, High School, and upon graduation, attended both Texarkana Junior College and College of the Ozarks, playing basketball. After finishing his bachelors of Science Degree, he began a career in coaching. He went on to obtain his Masters and Administrators degrees. Jerry served a total of 43 years in education, as a coach, and as a High School Principal and Superintendent. During this time, he also gave several years to police work. He was passionately dedicated to his students and especially to his grandchildren. He was a member of the Hatfield Methodist Church, the Lions Club, the Masonic Lodge, and the Tea Kettle Hunting Club.

He is preceded in death by his father, Lester Shinn, and his grandson, Jeremy Hemund.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Peggy Cobb Shinn; mother, Dorothy Reeder Shinn of Lockesburg, Arkansas,; Daughter, Toni Davis and husband Bruce of Amity, Arkansas and their children, Sandra Davis of Jacksonville, Arkansas, and Bruce Davis, Jr. of Hot Springs, Arkansas; daughter Debbie Shinn of Hot Springs, Arkansas and her children, Camille Graham and her husband Michael of Marion, Arkansas; Jarrod Hemund of Hot Springs, Arkansas, and Chelsea Hemund of Hot Springs, Arkansas, and his great-granddaughter, Mahaley Hemund of Hot Springs, Arkansas.

Funeral services will be held Friday, April 11, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at the Beasley-Wood Chapel with Reverend Archie Phillips and Brother Loyd Allen Taylor officiating. Interment with Masonic services will follow at Six Mile Cemetery at Hatfield under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.

A visitation for family and friends will be held Thursday evening, April 10th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Paul Cox, James Gibbons, Mike Oglesby, Roger Flemons, Mitch Titsworth, Arley Stinson, and Ray Cathey. Honorary pallbearers will be the Four West Nursing Staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Hot Springs, the staff of Dr. Reddy’s office, the members of the Tea Kettle Hunting Club, and his countless friends.
