Claudia Merle Highful Burt

Mrs. Claudia Merle Highful Burt, age 75, a resident of De Queen, Ark., died Thursday,May 15th at her home.

She was born to John Robert and Lucille Taylor Highful at Broken Bow, Oklahoma, on July 11, 1932. She was a homemaker, and a Baptist. She enjoyed collecting Avon Bottles, Fishing, camping, family gatherings, shopping, and spending time with her family, especially, her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, John Robert Highful, Kenneth Garver, and a daughter, Gwen Renee Brewer.

She is survived by her husband, Raymond Burt of De Queen, four daughters, Jeannie Bates of Eagletown, Okla.; Carla Billingsley of Winthrop, Ark., Georgette Bell of De Queen, and Sonya Brewer also of De Queen, one brother, John Q. Garner of DeKalb, Texas, one sister, Evelyn Saxton of Grand Junction, Colorado, her mother-in-law, Bonnie Burt of De Queen, nine grandchildren, Samantha, Shannon, Jenna, Lindsay, Tobi, Joy, Phillip, Kane, and Cole, seventeen great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews, was well as other family members and a host of friends.

Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Claudia Burt will be held at 4:30 p.m., Saturday, May 17th in the Clear Creek Cemetery with Rev. J. L. Walker officiating, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, May 16th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Steven Shrouder, Lawrence G. Chandler, Daniel Burt, Wayne Burt, Talen Chandler, Joel Billingsley, Joey Scott, and Roger Bell.

Memorials may be made to the Claudia M. Burt Memorial Fund, C/O Raymond Burt, 1343 Red Bridge Road, De Queen, Ark. 71832

Lyda M. Chandler Ramsey

Mrs. Lyda M. Chandler Ramsey, age 88, a resident of De Queen, Arkansas, died Wednesday, May 14, 2008 in the Christus St. Michael Hospital, Texarkana, Texas.

She was born to Josh B. and Rosetta Lingo Chandler at Horatio, Arkansas, on June 22, 1919.

She was a homemaker, and a member of the Chapel Hill Baptist Church of De Queen. She enjoyed canning, quilting, and gardening.

She was preceded in death by his parents, her husband, Orlen A. Ramsey, a grandson, Branson Ramsey, four brothers, Clarence, Will, Arthur, and Roy Chandler, and a sister, Leddie Knott. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Kaye Ramsey of De Queen, and Arlen and Brenda Ramsey of Blanco, Texas, one brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Bonnie Chandler of De Queen, one sister, Lillie Emerson of De Queen, five grandchildren, Rhonda Lovelace of Horatio, Polly Priess, Tammy Gravitt, and Jody Kneese of Fredericksburg, Texas, and Doug Ramsey of Fayetteville, Ark.; eleven great-grandchildren, Austin Ramsey, De Queen, Tanner Ramsey of Prescott, Tisha Martinez of Hot Springs, Kimber Frachiseur of Horatio, Jessican Daniel of Houston, Texas, Drew and Cody Crenwelge, and Anissa & Troy Kneese of Fredericksburg, Tex.; and Melanie and Carli Ramsey of Fayetteville, Ark.; two great-grandchildren, Attalee and Landon Frachiseur of Horatio, two step-grandchildren, Pam McIntyre of Chester Springs, Pa. and Steve Gleason of Lakeland, Fl., as well as a number of nieces and nephews, as well as other family members and a host of friends.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Lyda Ramsey will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 17th in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Homer Frachiseur officiating. Burial will follow in the Chapel Hill Cemetery, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, May 16th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

L. P. Elliott Jr.

Mr. L. P. Elliott, Jr., age 80, a resident of De Queen, died Monday, May 12, 2008 in Little Rock, Arkansas.

He was born October 2, 1927 in Broken Bow, Oklahoma to Leonard Paul Elliott Sr. and Lela Godwin Elliott. He attended Arkansas A&M University, now SAU, where he was quarterback of the football team and later served on the Board of Trustees. He spent 23 years on active military duty. He served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars while serving in the U.S. Navy and retiring from the U.S. Air Force. He was active in civic affairs; Lions Club, Salvation Army and Quorum Court and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in De Queen.

Mr. Elliott was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Sara Jo Mills Elliott; one son, Roger Elliott; an infant daughter, Barbara Ann Elliott; one brother, Wayne Elliott; and his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Dee Ann Smith Elliott of De Queen; four children and their spouses, Kerry and Kent Harrison of Hot Springs, Greg Elliott and Jerry Hooker of Little Rock, Donna and Wayne Cameron of Texarkana, Arkansas and Julia Elliott of De Queen; a daughter-in-law, Denise Elliott of Ruston, Louisiana; his step-children and their spouses, Preston and Jolene Smith, Justin and Cindy Smith, Linda and Alan Roden all of De Queen, Dalynne and Kevin Randolph of Hatfield and Sherie and Jack Mabry of Bartlett, Tennessee; three brothers, RB Elliott of Bossier City, Louisiana, Donald Elliott of California and Lloyd Elliott of Horatio; four grandchildren, David Harrison, Jordan Elliott, Jennifer Jones and Grant Harrison; 12 step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Elliott will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 15, 2008 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the Redmen Cemetery in De Queen.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 14th at the funeral home.

Elizabeth "Liz" Kyle

Elizabeth "Liz" Kyle, age 29, of Wickes passed away Thursday, May 8, 2008 in Little Rock, Arkansas.

She was born February 12, 1979 in De Queen, Arkansas to James Turnbough and Cindy Kuykendall Turnbough. She was united in marriage to James Adam Kyle. Mrs. Kyle was a loving homemaker, mother, daughter, sister, granddaughter, aunt, cousin, niece and friend.

Survivors are her husband: Adam Kyle of cover, Arkansas; 2 daughters: Cortney Kyle and Jeanette Kyle of Cove, AR; her parents: James and Cindy Turnbough of Wickes, AR; 3 sisters: Jessica, Amanda and Celeste Turnbough all of Wickes; her grandmother Marie Powell of Wickes, 3 nieces, many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her baby girl, her grandparents, and 2 uncles.

Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Kyle will be Saturday, May 10, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Wickes with Bro. James Gathright officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home in Mena.

Visitation is General.

Calvin Lee Rettmann,

Calvin Lee Rettmann, age 76, a resident of Nashville, AR, died Saturday, September 20, 2008 at his home.

He was born March 20, 1932 in Winthrop, AR to Victor D. Rettmann, Sr. and Hazel Bush Rettmann. He worked in construction, was a truck driver, served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, and was a Baptist.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Glenda Rettmann; a sister, Wilma Egelston; two brothers, Ferson Henry Rettmann and Victor D. Rettmann, Jr.

He is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Rebecca and Eugene Buck of Dierks, AR and Deborah Wolffe of Winnemucca, NV; one son, Jeffery Rettmann of Nashville, AR; one sister, Fern York of Nashville, AR; two brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Virginia Rettmann of Gervais, OR, and Edward and Donna Rettmann of Bouse, AZ; seven grandchildren and one great grandson.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 23, 2008 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Don Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Campground Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, September 22, 2008 at the funeral home.

Gloria Jean Thompson Baker

Mrs. Gloria Jean Thompson Baker, age 62, a resident of Winthrop, Arkansas died Sunday, September 14, 2008 in a Texarkana Hospital.

She was born December 31, 1945 in Broken Bow, Oklahoma to Jack and Louise Oglesby Thompson. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Baker is survived by her husband, Joe Baker of Winthrop, Arkansas; one daughter, Kathy Knighten of Crossroads, Arkansas; four sons', Eddie Baker of Crossroads, Arkansas, Joe Baker, Jr. of Crossroads, Arkansas, James Baker of Foreman, Arkansas and Shane Baker of Ashdown, Arkansas; two sisters, Ruth Lansdell of Alleene, Arkansas and Clarice Lancaster of Ryan, Oklahoma; two brothers, Larry Thompson of Foreman, Arkansas and Terry Thompson of Ashdown, Arkansas; eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside Services for Mrs. Baker will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 16, 2008 in the Gravelly Cemetery with Gary Steiner officiating under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Monday, September 15th at the funeral home.

Michael S. Leathers

Michael S. Leathers, 34, Broken Bow, Ok, passed away Wednesday, September 10,2008, at DeKalb, Tx. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday 13,2008, at the First Baptist Church, Wright City. Rev. Dean Smith will officiate. Interment will follow at Slater Cemetery, Wright City. Under the direction of Brumley Funeral Home Broken Bow, Ok.

He was born July 18,1974 the son of Michael Allen Leathers and Jan (Driver) Fulfer.

Michael was a affiliated with Eastside Baptist Church, Broken Bow, Ok. A member of Broken Bow Masonic Lodge 441 and Eastern Star. He was a Master Mason and was currently serving as Senior Warden.

He was Preceded in death by his father Michael Allen Leathers.

Michael is survived by his wife, Teakie Leathers of the home; one son; Justice Ray Leathers; one daughter, Machela Raylee Leathers both of the home; Mother, Jan and husband, Rodger Fulfer, Broken Bow; one brother, Robert Leathers, Broken Bow; one sister, Suzie and husband John Whitehead, Broken Bow; one niece and one nephew, several aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends.

Wesley Cassady

Mr. Wesley Cassady, age 83, a resident of De Queen, Arkansas, died Friday, September 12th in a Texarkana Hospital.

He was born to Henry Julian and Mattie Ida Feemster Cassady, on March 30, 1925 at Nashville, Arkansas. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U. S. Navy, and was a member of the Beacon Hill Seventh Day Adventist Church. He was retired from the City of De Queen, where he worked in street maintenance. He had a passion for working, gardening, spectator sports, and playing volley ball.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings, Sam, Hill, Kenneth, Ramon, and Donald Cassady.

He is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, John and Grace Cassady of Azle, Texas, Wesley J, Jr. and Melissa Cassady of Springdale, Ark., James Lee Cassady of De Queen, and Stephen Paul Cassady of Springdale, Ark.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Wayne Burt of Lebanon, Tenn., Joyce Dalton of De Queen and Rose and Todd Birdsong of De Queen, one brother, Joe Cassady of Pine Bluff, Ark.; thirteen grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Wesley Cassady will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, September 14, 2008 in the Beacon Hill Seventh Day Adventist Church, with Don Fortner officiating. Burial with military Rites will follow in the Beacon Hill Cemetery, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 13th

Ermal Faye Higgins Finley

Mrs. Ermal Faye Higgins Finley, age 81, a resident of Winthrop, Arkansas died Thursday, September 11, 2008 in the Wadley Regional Medical Center in Texarkana, Texas.

She was born October 25, 1926 in McCurtain Co., Oklahoma to Albert and Arvyzine Jacobs Higgins. She was a homemaker and a member of the Horatio Church of Christ.

Mrs. Finley was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Cecil Raymond Finley, Sr. on August 25, 1993.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, C.R. Finley, Jr. and Lillian Finley of Winthrop, Arkansas; one daughter and son-in-law, Gerri Lynn and Ronald Wells of Broken Bow, Oklahoma; three grandchildren, Todd R. Finley, Cristy Miller Westfall and Cody W. Miller and two great-grandsons, Ethan Zane O'Donnell and Zander Gage Miller.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Finley will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, September 15, 2008 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Virgil Romine, minister officiating. Burial will follow in the Pauley Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 p.m., Sunday, September 14th at the funeral home.

Frances Anita Prothro Knod

Frances Anita Prothro Knod, age 92, a resident of De Queen, Arkansas died Wednesday, September 10, 2008 in Springfield, IL.

She was born in El Dorado, Arkansas to Albert Clayton and Ila Amanda Brown Prothro. She retired from the De Queen Public School system after 25 years of service and was a member of the First Baptist Church in De Queen.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Melbert Knod; a son, William Frederick Knod II and a brother, Albert Earl Prothro.

She is survived by a son, Edward M. Knod, Jr.; a daughter, Anita Lynne Knod; a sister, Mary Lynn Davis; two daughters-in-law, Judy Grant Knod and Patricia Kolesar Knod; and three grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, September 15, 2008 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles Hebert officiating. Burial will follow in the Redmen Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 p.m., Sunday, September 14th at the funeral home.
