Susan Whisenhunt Frauenberg

Susan W. Frauenberg, age 55, of West Palm Beach, Florida found peace on August 18, 2008. Susan was the beloved wife of Thomas J. Frauenberg, cherished daughter of Jeff and Doris Whisenhunt of San Antonio, Texas, formerly a long time resident of De Queen, Arkansas, and dear sister of Wayne and Robert Whisenhunt. Susan was a 1971 graduate of De Queen High School and a 1975 graduate of Henderson State University. Mass was celebrated for Susan at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 21, 2208 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Jupiter, Florida. Please make contributions in Susan’s name to the charity of your choice.

Don Cecil

Mr. Don Cecil, age 68, of Mena, passed away Saturday, August 23, 2008 at his home surrounded by his family and friends.

He was born October 16, 1939 in Eagleton, Arkansas to the late Levi Oren Cecil and Lucille Sewell Cecil. He was united in marriage to Brenda Yahn. He served in the United States Air Force. Mr. Cecil was the owner of Don’s EZ Pay in Mena, De Queen, and Waldron. He was a member of the United Pentecostal Church and the Arkansas Rental Dealers Association. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend.

Survivors are: Wife: Brenda Cecil of Mena, Arkansas Daughter: Rhonda Weatherford and husband Eric of Mena, Arkansas Tresa Craig and husband Tony of Mena Arkansas. Son: Kevin Yahn and wife Shawnee of Hot Springs, Arkansas Mother: Lucille Cecil of Vandervoort Arkansas. Grandchildren: Brandon Cummings and wife Audra of Mena Arkansas, Calvin Cummings and wife Summer of Wichita, Kansas Aaron Cummings of Mena, Arkansas, Brandon Craig of Mena, Arkansas, Gregory Craig of Mena, Arkansas, Austin Yahn of Hot Springs Arkansas, Tristan Yahn of Hot Springs, Arkansas, Aarika Cox of Hot Springs, Arkansas; Katelynn Yahn of Hot Springs, Arkansas; Great Grandchildren: Brooklyn Cummings of Mena Arkansas, Jayden Cox of Hot Springs Arkansas. Brother: Larry Cecil and wife Sandra of Cove, Arkansas Sister: Sue Shearer and husband Carroll, Sr. of Vandervoort Arkansas. Several nieces, nephews and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Levi Cecil.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at the United Pentecostal Church in Mena with Reverend Jack Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Cecil Chapel Cemetery in Vandervoort under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. military Honors to be performed by the United States Air Force and the Polk County Veteran’s Organization.

Visitation with family and friends will be Monday, August 25, 2008 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.

William Chester Gray

Mr. William Chester Gray, age 80, a resident of Washington D.C, died Thursday, August 14, 2008 at the VA Medical Center in Washington.

He was born August 15, 1927 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Pelly Carl and Judas Stephens Gray. He was a certified welder, a U.S. Navy veteran, life member of the American Legion, V.F.W., and Disabled American Veterans and a Baptist.

Mr. Gray was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Pelly Gray and Lawrence Gray.

He is survived by one son, William Chester Gray; two daughters, Barbara Ann Gray and Denies Jude Gray and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral Services for Mr. Gray will be held 3:00 p.m., Sunday, August 24, 2008 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. J.L. Walker officiating. Burial will follow in the Millwee Cemetery.

Ruth Emma Carrington Cloud

Mrs. Ruth Emma Carrington Cloud, age 94, a resident of De Queen, Arkansas, and a former resident of Arkadelphia, Arkansas, died Wednesday, August 20th at her home.

She was born to Sidney and Edna Mautz Carrington at Prescott, Arkansas, on December 8, 1913. She was a homemaker and a member of the De Queen Church of Christ. She enjoyed needlepoint and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Sidney R. Carrington, a sister, Elizabeth Meador, and her husband of over 52 years, Ural Edgar Cloud.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Marybeth and Bryce Harmon of De Queen, two grandchildren, Hollye, and her husband, Barry Watkins of De Queen, and Brett and his wife, Heather Harmon of Nashville, Ark.; four great-grandchildren, Brennan and Braxton Watkins of De Queen, and Addison and Rayleigh Harmon of Nashville, Ark.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Ruth Cloud will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 23, 2008 in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Van Ledbetter, Minister officiating. Burial will follow in the Dee Ann Cemetery, Prescott, Arkansas, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday, August 22nd.

Roy Wayne Smith

Mr. Roy Wayne Smith, age 83, a resident of De Queen, AR, died Tuesday, August 19, 2008 in De Queen.

He was born January 4, 1925 in De Queen to Jesse Ray and Fronie Hendricks Smith. He was a supply clerk for Weyerhaeuser, a Purple Heart recipient at the Battle of the Bulge during WWII, an avid hunter and a member of the First United Methodist Church of De Queen.

Mr. Smith was preceded in death by a brother, Lindon Smith and a sister, Bonnie Smith.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Allen Smith of De Queen; two sons and daughters-in-law, Rodney and Rhoda Smith and Greg and Denise Smith, all of De Queen; two brothers, Arlis Smith and Mitchell Smith, both of De Queen; one sister, Myrtle Sims of De Queen; his sisters-in-law, Jane Smith, Marolyn Needham, Carolyn Cowling, Floy Smith and Barbara Allen; two brothers-in-law, C.C. "Bobby" Smith and Marlin Allen; five grandchildren, Stacy Smith, Trey Thornton, Shane Smith, Brad Smith and Brooke Smith and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Smith will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 23, 2008 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. David Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the W.L. Allen Family Cemetery.

James Richard "J.R." Medley, Sr.

Mr. James Richard "J.R." Medley, Sr., age 60, a resident of Little River Club near Winthrop, Arkansas, died Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at his home.

He was born March 1, 1948 in Gladewater, Texas to Joel and Sybil Buchanan Medley. He was the sales manager for Allstates Coating and president of the Men's Golf Association at Little River Club.

Mr. Medley was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Diana Higgins Medley; one son and daughter-in-law, James Richard Medley, Jr. and his wife Hannah; one daughter, Carli Robles; two sisters, Jodi Lopes and Rhonda Medley; and two grandchildren, Jarred Robles and Megan Medley.

No service is scheduled.

Leon Richard Merritt
Mr. Leon Richard Merritt, age 72, a resident of De Queen, died Friday, October 17, 2008 in a local hospital.
He was born to Richard and Elizabeth Beatrice Pearl Lane Merritt at Ashtabula, Ohio on May 13, 1936. He was a retired truck driver, and was a member of the Grace Baptist Church. He enjoyed crossword puzzles, fishing, and video games.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and in 1977, a son, Leon Richard Merritt, Jr.

He is survived by his wife of over 44 years, Marquerite Raley Merritt of De Queen; one step-son, Buford Dale Gideon of De Queen, a step-daughter, Evelyn Rebecca Sowell of Lockesburg, a sister, Pat Dick of Ashtabula, Ohio, a half-sister, Eddie Ann Myerson of Ashtabula, Ohio, three half-brothers, Joe Simmons of South Carolina, Jack Simmons and Tom Simmons both of Ashtabula, Ohio, and a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great- grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services for Mr. Leon Merritt will be held at 2:00 pm. Monday, October 20, 2008 in the Redmen Cemetery, De Queen with Rev. Tim Johnson officiating, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home.

Clarence Lee Head

Mr. Clarence Lee Head, age 98, a resident of Gillham, AR died Wednesday, October 15, 2008 in the De Queen Medical Center.

He was born February 20, 1910 in Wise County, Texas to William and Beullah Harper Head. He was a carpenter.

Mr. Head was preceded in death by his wife, Mattie Louise Head on May 3, 1996.

He is survived by two sons, Johnnie Lee Head of Phoenix, AZ, and Clifford “Hoot” Head of Tollison, AZ; two daughters, Opal Scott also of Tollison, AZ and Evelyn Bell of Gillham; one brother, Carl Head of Hobert, OK; 15 grandchildren a number of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services for Mr. Head will be held at 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, October 21, 2008 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Roy Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the Valley Cemetery.

Louise Lacefield Davis O'Neal

Mrs. Louise Lacefield Davis O'Neal, age 87, beloved mother, wife and grandmother, a resident of Nashville formerly of Dierks, died Friday, October 17, 2008 in the Dierks Health and Rehab Center.

She was born January 4, 1921 in Amarillo, Texas to Charles West and Bertie Lacefield Simpson. She was a retired clothing store owner with her husband Granville in Dierks, bookkeeper for W.D. Smith trucking, and was a member of the Open Door Baptist Church in Nashville.

Mrs. O'Neal was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Granville Davis of 30 years and Roy O'Neal of 29 years; and infant son; and one brother, Charles Lacefield.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Dee and Gary Sirmon of Dierks and Leda Jane and Gerry Martin of Mt. Pleasant, Texas; four grandchildren, David Sirmon of Dierks, Susan Lensing of New Blaine, Lisa Morgan of De Queen and Buster Roberts of Dierks; eight great-grandchildren, Ashton, Andrew and Will Sirmon of Dierks, Marli Clay, Kaitlin and Christopher Lensing of New Blaine, Heather Chandler of Lexington, Texas and Jake Morgan of De Queen; two great-great grandchildren, Britt and Brayson Talley of Lexington, Texas; three step-daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Mark Smith of Nashville, Shelia and Joe Hardin of Ashdown and Sandy Whittington of Bella Vista; five step-grandchildren, Matt Smith of Nashville, Chastity Thrash of Venus, Texas, Kim Moix of Little Rock, Todd McCullough and Toni McCullough of Bella Vista; seven step-great grandchildren, Aiden Smith of Nashville, Ryan, Brittney and Brady Thrash of Venus, Texas, Brittney and Blake McCullough of Bella Vista; and a host of other family and friends.

Funeral Services for Mrs. O'Neal will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, October 19, 2008 in the Mt. Zion Church in Athens with Bro. Wayne Murphy and Bro. Dany Partlo officiating. Burial will follow in the Athens Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in Dierks.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Saturday, October 18th at the funeral home in Dierks.

Colvin G. Leeper

Colvin G. Leeper, age 86, of Lockesburg, died Thursday, October 16, 2008 in De Queen.

He was the son of E.A. and Jessie (Harder) Leeper. He was born February 2, 1922 in Lockesburg. He was a rancher, hauled pulpwood, a veteran of World War II and loved his family and animals

Mr. Leeper was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Herbert Leeper and Fay Leeper; and two sisters, Bonnie Flowers and Ruby Leeper.

He is survived by his wife, Marie (Boykin) Leeper; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Donnie and Nancy Leeper of Georgia, Larry Leeper, and Steve and Ruth Leeper all of De Queen; three daughters and a son-in-law, Carol Kesterson of Dierks, Kathy and Calvin Griffin of Horatio and Lisa Godfrey of Temple, Georgia; 20 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Leeper will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, October 19, 2008 in the Old Piney Church with Rev. John Henry Williams and Rev. Sam Hendricks officiating. Burial will follow in the Old Piney Cemetery under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Saturday, October 18th at the funeral home.

Rodolfo Angel Ruvalcaba

Rodolfo Angel Ruvalcaba, age six months, a resident of Horatio, died Wednesday, October 15, 2008 in the Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock.

He was born April 16, 2008 in Mena, Arkansas to Pedro and Rosa Ruvalcaba.

He is survived by his parents; two brothers, Pedro and Isaias Ruvalcaba; one sister, Anahiz Ruvalcaba; his paternal grandfather and grandmother, Jose Ruvalcaba and Maria Escobedo; his maternal grandfather and grandmother, Rodolfo Coronado and Celsa Ortego all of Mexico and many other relatives.

Funeral Mass will be held at 3:30 p.m., Friday, October 17, 2008 in the St. Barbara Catholic Church with Father Juan Araiza officiating. Burial will follow in the Horatio Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.
