Anita Friedericka Wiederhoeft Pearce

Anita Friedericka Wiederhoeft Pearce, age 97, a resident of De Queen, AR died Thursday, January 1, 2009 in the Brookewood Nursing Center .

She was born May 3, 1911 in Pleasant Mound Township, Blue Earth County, Minnesota to Wilhelm O. and Frieda Shwarz Wiederhoeft. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church in De Queen. She attended public and parochial schools and graduated from Amboy High School in 1928. She furthered her education at Mankato Teachers College and received a teaching degree. She taught grade school from 1929 to 1975. In 1972 she was awarded the honor as teacher of the year in Faribault County, MN . After moving to De Queen in 1975 she taught throughout the entire De Queen School system as a substitute teacher until 1987 when she retired.

She married Aaron O. Pearce on November 10, 1946. They lived in Minnesota until 1975 and then moved to De Queen, AR.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Aaron Pearce on June 7, 1987, a step-son, Perry Pearce, her parents, four brothers and one sister.

She is survived by a step-daughter, Mari Alice (Joe) Vobora; a step daughter-in-law, Eleanor Pearce; her sisters, Lasca Flitter of Madelia, MN, Lucy (Darell) Apitz of New Ulm, MN; her brothers, Kermit (Dolores) Wiederhoeft of Amboy, MN, Orin (Dorothy) Wiederhoeft of Amboy, MN, and Leo (Enid) Wiederhoeft of Lewisville, MN; five step grandchildren, Lonny, Jackie, Elizabeth, Benny and Alan; nephews, David Flitter, Daniel Block, Dale and Steven Wiederhoeft, Wesley and Wayne Wiederhoeft, John and Robert Apitz, Robert, Bill, Jack and Jim Pearce; nieces, Nancy Letcher, Connie Krusemark, Linda Cone, Lola Owen, Carol Bertrand, Iris Bergerson, Eileen Proctor and Wanda Winker.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 3, 2009 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel in De Queen with Pastor John Onda officiating. Burial will follow in the Chapel Hill Cemetery .

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, January 2, at the funeral home.

Olen Ray Neeley

Olen Ray Neeley, age 83, a resident of De Queen, AR died Sunday, December 28, 2008 in the Crystal Falls Health and Rehabilitation Center .

He was born October 27, 1925 in De Queen. He was a retired carpenter, a U.S. Navy veteran during WWII, a member of the V.F.W. and the De Queen Church of Christ. He was an avid reader and enjoyed woodworking and gardening.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Neeley; his mother, Eva Buffington Black; a brother, Ben Neeley; and a sister, Effie Stephens.

He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl and Don Higgins and Nancy and Randy Gore, all of De Queen; three grandchildren, Matt, Susan, and Sally; three great-grandchildren, Althea, John and Cassidy, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services for Mr. Neeley will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 30, 2008 in the Smyrna Cemetery with Charles Bender officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to: Children’s Home, Inc., 5515 Wolcott Rd., Paragould, AR 72450 .

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Monday, December 29, 2008 at the funeral home.

Melba Gladys Coffey Bledsoe Dockins

Mrs. Melba Gladys Coffey Bledsoe Dockins, age 75, a resident of De Queen, and former resident of Grannis, died Wednesday, December 24, 2008 in the De Queen Medical Center.

She was born to Carter Baxter and Goldie Mae Almond Coffey at Antimony City, Arkansas, on June 17, 1933. She was an LPN, as well as a homemaker. She was a member of the Almond Church, and was a song writer. She enjoyed singing, gardening, flowers and writing songs.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Urstin Coffey, three sisters, Dorothy Jackson, Faye Frachiseur, and Vernonia Hargis, and her husband, Arnold Dockins.

She is survived by one son, Theron Bledsoe of Grannis, one brother, Burley Coffey of Lake Village, Arkansas, one sister, Ima Prather of Dierks, two grandchildren, Theron Bledsoe, Jr. of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, and Shavon Bledsoe of Arkadelphia, Ark.; several step-grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mrs. Melba Dockins will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 27, 2008 in the Almond Church with Bro. Homer Frachiseur and Bro. Steve Chenoweth officiating. Burial will follow in the Cossatot Cemetery, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will receive Friends at Chandler Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, December 26th.

Brian Scott Stapp

Brian Scott Stapp, age 23, a resident of Dierks, Arkansas, died Tuesday, December 23, 2008 near Lockesburg as a result of an automobile accident.

He was born January 6, 1985 in De Queen to Scott and Karen Bailey Stapp. He was employed by Mid-State Supply in Texarkana, a member of the Holly Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Dierks and was attending Texas A&M University in Texarkana .

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Jeanette Bailey.

He is survived by his parents, Scott and Karen Stapp; one brother and sister-in-law, Steven and Paula Stapp; one sister Kaitlyn Stapp, his fiancée, Magan Dinger; his grandparents, Don and Shelba Stapp, and Virgil Bailey; and one nephew, Sawyer Stapp, all of Dierks.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 27, 2008 in the Holly Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Dierks with Rev. Bill Driggers officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunshine Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in Dierks.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, December 26th at the funeral home in Dierks.

Fred Butler

Fred Butler, age 74, a resident of Paoli, Oklahoma, died Monday,

December 22, 2008 in the Little River Memorial Hospital in Ashdown, Arkansas.

He was born October 9, 1934 in Foreman, Arkansas to Eldria and Ethel Lee Johnson Butler. He was a minister at the Paoli Church of Christ for 28 years, served 20+ years on the Paoli Volunteer Fire Department, Paoli Development Board, Cemetery Board, Senior Citizens and Meals on Wheels.

Mr. Butler was preceded in death by one son, Phillip Butler in 2005 and one sister, Mae Dean Dainwood.

He is survived by one son, Paul Butler of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma ; three sisters, Nellie Kaeding of Ashdown, Clara Green of Idabel, Oklahoma, Effie Anderson of Foreman; one brother, Oscar Butler of Arcata, California ; three grandchildren, Bethany, Ben and Zach; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Butler will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, December 26, 2008 in the Foreman Church of Christ with Billy Blakney, minister officiating. Burial will follow in the Dollarhide Cemetery under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

Jerry Randall "Randy" Romine

Jerry Randall "Randy" Romine, age 62, a resident of Mabelvale, Arkansas died Monday, December 22, 2008 in Mabelvale.

He was born July 20, 1946 in Horatio to Ray and Margaret Cox Romine. He was a DX service station operator, retired disabled U.S. Marine veteran of the Vietname War and a Baptist.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Frances Coffman Romine of Mabelvale; one daughter and son-in-law, Heather and William Powell of Lockesburg; one brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Olivia Romine of De Queen; three step-children and their spouses, Teri and Mike Kouri of Burleson, Texas, Mitchell and Michelle MacIntire of Jacksonville, Arkansas, Shana and Dale Chambers of Conway, Arkansas; 15 grandchildren which include, Alexis, Erik, Cianna, Kloey, Meagon and Michelle. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 27, 2008 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Virgil Romine and Rev. Charles Hebert officiating. Burial will follow in the Horatio Cemetery .

The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:30 p.m., Friday, December 26th at the funeral home.

Honora Edna Bradley Holcomb

Honora Edna Bradley Holcomb, age 90, a resident of Murfreesboro, AR died Sunday, December 28, 2008 in Murfreesboro .

She was born April 28, 1918 in Sevier County, AR.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Holcomb; a brother, Donald Eugene Johnson; two nephews, Hollis Johnson and Donald E. Johnson, Jr.

She is survived by four nephews, Marion Donald Johnson, Jerry Ray Johnson,

Keith Johnson and Richard H. Johnson.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 30, 2008 in the Lockesburg Cemetery with Chris Myers officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

Geraldine Davis Stubbs Jarrell

Mrs. Geraldine Davis Stubbs Jarrell, age 74, a resident of De Queen, Arkansas, died Friday, December 19, 2008 in the Brookwood Nursing and Rehab.

She was born to Freddie Francis and Mae Batey Davis at Provo, Arkansas, on April 22, 1934. She was a cook having worked in several restaurants in the area, as well as a homemaker. She enjoyed watching TV, cooking, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, R. A. Melton, and Buddy Melton, a sister, Kay Davis, two grandchildren, Jonathan and Michael Harrison, a daughter, Carla Denise Stubbs, and her husbands, Leroy M. Stubbs, and Jessie James Jarrell.

She is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Leroy, Jr. and Cindy Stubbs, Russell and Pam Stubbs both of De Queen, Timothy and Kathy Stubbs of Ardmore, Okla.; and Freddie and Vanessa Stubbs of Lockesburg; four daughters and sons-in-law, Tressie “Teri” Merworth of Coleman, Texas, Peggy and Jessie Vaughn of De Queen, Rita Martinez and Henson Garvin and Donette and David Harrison all of Coleman, Texas, a sister and Brother-in-law, Nora and Lyndall Smith of De Queen, 32 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Geraldine Jarrell will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 22nd in the McHorse Cemetery, Provo, Arkansas with Doug Dorris officiating, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, December 21st. The pallbearers will be Keith May, Kyle May, Aaron May, Roger Melton, Jimmy Melton, Brandon Melton, C. J. Stewart, Kirk Stewart, and Jesse Vaughn, Jr.

Calvin E. Baker

Mr. Calvin E. Baker, age 65, of Wickes, passed away Thursday, December 18, 2008 at his home.

He was born April 20, 1943 in Mena, Arkansas to the late English Woodrow Baker and the late Alma Hazel Dell Cornelius Baker. He was united in marriage to Freda May Priddy. He worked for the City of Wickes Department of Maintenance and also served as constable of Ozark Township and was a former first responder for the Wickes Fire Department. Mr. Baker was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife Freda Baker of Wickes, Arkansas; a Son: Dewayne Baker and wife Samantha of Wickes, Arkansas; 2 Daughters: Dorene Burk and husband Roger of Vandervoort, Arkansas and Nina Wolf of Mena, Arkansas; 2 Brothers: Larry Joe Baker and wife Joan and Freddie Baker and wife Diane of Wickes, Arkansas; 5 Sisters: Anita Blair and husband Dale, Marvella Roan and husband Bear, Kathy Kosier and husband Randy, Lavada Richardson and husband Jimmy all of Wickes, Arkansas and Carla Wolcott and husband Steve of De Queen, Arkansas; 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his Parents, Woodrow and Hazel Baker, by his brother, Frank Baker, and by his sister, Lora Mae Barrick

Graveside services will be held Monday, December 22, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Baker Cemetery with Brother Donnie Jewell officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. Visitation will be general.

David Blaine Haley

Mr. David Blaine Haley, age 48, a resident of Texarkana, Texas, died Friday, January 30, 2009 at a friend’s home in Crossroads, Arkansas.
He was born to Roy and Lola Rae Buck Haley at Checotah, Oklahoma on October 15, 1960. He was a truck driver and a Baptist. He enjoyed hunting, horses, cooking, and spending time with family. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lola Rae Pratt, his dad, Roy Haley, his father, Robert Houston Pratt, two brothers, Ron Haley and Jonathan Pratt, a niece, Chelle Haley Poole, and two nephews, Jay and Bill Roy Haley.

He is survived by a daughter, Dakota Blaine Haley of Mount Pleasant, Texas, two brothers and a sister-in-law, Tracy Haley of Stidham, Oklahoma, and Arlis and Patsy Pratt of Longtown, Oklahoma; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Deborah and Horace Poole of Texarkana, Texas; Janell and Lupe Trujillio of Queen Creek, Arizona, seventeen nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 6, 2009 in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel.
