Maudie Nadine Sherman Turner

Mrs. Maudie Nadine Sherman Turner, age 85, a resident of Dierks, died Wednesday, January 21, 2009 in the Dierks Health and Rehab Center .

She was born August 2, 1923 in Norman, Arkansas to Sam and Fannie Mae Faulkner Sherman. She was a special cook, a longtime member of the Holly Creek Missionary Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and was a choir member.

Mrs. Turner was preceded in death by her husband, E.V Turner and two daughters, Eulene Stanley and Renee Tipton.

She is survived by one daughter, Shirley Chambers of Atoka, Oklahoma; three grandsons, 3 granddaughters, nine great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews and host of friends.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Turner will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 23, 2009 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel in Dierks with Pastor Larry Sherman officiating. Burial will follow in the Dierks Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, January 22nd at the funeral home in Dierks.

Judy Ellen Goode Lipsey Packnett

Mrs. Judy Ellen Goode Lipsey Packnett, age 63, a resident of De Queen, Arkansas, died Monday, January 19, 2009, in the Christus St. Michael Hospital, Texarkana.

She was born to Robert Earl and Mary Jane Staggs Goode at De Queen, Ark., on July 25, 1945. She was a 1963 Graduate of De Queen High School, and a graduate of Arkansas College of Barbering and Hair Design, Little Rock, Ark. She was an active member of the Memorial Missionary Baptist Church, a Barber, as well as a homemaker. She enjoyed reading, painting, crafts, flowers, cooking for family, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, her first husband, Sammy Lipsey, and a daughter, Lori Jane Lipsey O’Connor.

She is survived by her husband of almost 37 years, Gehri Packnett of De Queen, three sons, Jeff Lipsey and Paul Lipsey of De Queen, and Scott Packnett of Bentonville, Ark.; one daughter, Debbie Smith of Texarkana, Tex., her mother, Mary Goode of De Queen, a sister, Glenda Rogers of De Queen; thirteen grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and a number of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Judy Packnett will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, January 22, 2009 in the Memorial Missionary Baptist Church, De Queen, with Bros. Joe and Jason Carlton officiating. Burial will follow in the Old Center Cemetery, Horatio, Ark., under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will receive friends at Chandler Funeral Home from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 21st.

Mr. Leo Wilson

Mr. Leo Wilson, age 80, of Wickes, passed away Sunday, January 18, 2009 in Ft. Smith.

He was born August 12, 1928 in Baker Springs, Arkansas to the late Nathan Wilson and the late Eliza Stephens Wilson. He was a truck driver by profession and was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Wilson was also a veteran, serving his country in the United States Air Force. He was a loving brother, uncle and friend.

He is survived by:

Brothers: Wayne Wilson of De Queen, Arkansas

Edward Wilson of Wickes, Arkansas

Sisters: Bobby Miranda of Wickes, Arkansas

Julie Bingham of Wickes, Arkansas

Becky Waller of Wickes, Arkansas

Numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nathan and Eliza Wilson, a brother, Alfred Wilson, and 3 nephews, Sgt. Troy Miranda, Richard Miranda, and Alfred Miranda.

Graveside services will be Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Oak Grove Cemetery at Wickes. Arrangements are under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. Visitation will be general.

Edgar Deloy Snow
Mr. Edgar Deloy Snow, age 83, a resident of Lockesburg, died Monday, January 19, 2009, in the Howard Memorial Hospital, Nashville.
He was born to Oliver Edmond and Sarah Aurora White Snow at Langley, Arkansas, on March 13, 1925. He was a veteran of World War II, the Korean Conflict, and the Vietname War, having served in the U. S. Navy, retiring with 23 years service. He was also retired from Weyerhaeuser Company, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lockesburg. He enjoyed fishing and yard work, and spending time with family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Oscar and Oliver Snow, seven sisters, Pearl Ross, Lois Baker, Lillie Ross, Dora Lee Cannon, Dean Davis, Mae Belle Hennard, and Nola Bashaw.

He is survived by his wife of over 55 years, Illene Friday Snow of Lockesburg, two daughters and a son-in-law, Lanie Snow of Nashville, and Cynthia and Tim Johnson of Texarkana, Ark.; three grandchildren, Sarah Johnson, Daniel Johnson, and Steven Johnson all of Texarkana, Ark.

Funeral Services for Mr. Edgar Snow will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 21st in the First Baptist Church with Rev. Jack Gilliland officiating. Burial will follow in the Lockesburg Cemetery, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. Visitation will be at the First Baptist Church of Lockesburg, from 11:00 a.m. until service time

J.W. Parson, Jr.

J.W. Parson, Jr., age 56, a resident of Lockesburg, AR died Sunday, January 18, 2009 in the De Queen Medical Center.

He was born May 30, 1952 in Telephone, TX to Jess Willard Parson, Sr. and Gracie Bell Forehand Parson. He was a Millworker for Little River Hardwoods, a U.S. Army veteran and a member of the Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Lockesburg.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Brenda Webb and a granddaughter, Katelen Parson.

He is survived by his wife, Sally Young Parson of Lockesburg; his children, Bobby DeWayne Parson, Shellie Mae Chilcoat, Cecil Holcomb Parson and Peggy Sue Powell, all of Lockesburg; two brothers, Jess Mike Parson and Larry Parson, both of Lockesburg; two sisters, Lucy Heath of Foreman, AR and Geneva Jo Hobbs of De Queen, AR; his grandchildren, Amy Chilcoat, Mason Chilcoat, Drew Parson, Courtney Parson, Meagon Powell and Michelle Powell.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 21, 2009 in the Lighthouse Church in Lockesburg with Bro. Buster Dellinger and Rev. Wesley Blankenship officiating. Burial will follow in the Belleville Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at the funeral home.

Elsie Jane Gallagher Scott

Mrs. Elsie Jane Gallagher Scott, age 86, a resident of Winthrop, Arkansas died Friday, February 27, 2009 in Winthrop .

She was born September 2, 1922 in Arkinda, Arkansas to John and Kate Stovall Gallagher. Elsie was a homemaker and loved gardening and quilting. She was a member of the Winthrop Holiness Church .

Mrs. Scott was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Roy Scott on September 27, 1998, one son, Roy Dale Scott and three brothers and three sisters.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Rosie and Steve Click of Winthrop; one son and daughter-in-law, Johnny and Melba Scott of Winthrop; one adopted son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Leveta Scott of Winthrop; two brothers, Robert Gallagher of Broken Bow, Oklahoma and Dan Gallagher of Winthrop; two sisters, Opal Roberson of New Boston, Texas and Bertha Mae Vandenburg of Las Vegas, Nevada; fifteen grandchildren, thirty-five great-grandchildren and twenty-two great great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Graveside Services for Mrs. Scott will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 2, 2009 in the Campground Cemetery in Winthrop with Bro. Audie Dawson and Martin Maynard officiating under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

Rosalie “Rose” Simer VanMeter

Mrs. Rosalie “Rose” Simer VanMeter, age 88, a resident of Texarkana, Texas died Friday, February 27, 2009 in a Texarkana Hospital .

She was born October 3, 1920 in Horatio, Arkansas to Samuel R. and Jessie I. Gore Simer. She was a retired owner/operator of a Southern Maid Donut and Cake Decorating Shop in De Queen, Arkansas for many years. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Texarkana, Arkansas and a member of The Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 241 in De Queen.

Mrs. VanMeter was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Henry H. VanMeter on April 4, 1986; three sisters, Garland McNully, Bonnie Canady and Perry Cearley; two brothers, Dale and Arnold Simer.

She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Loretta DeLord of Texarkana, Texas and Judy and Mark Rodgers of Forney, Texas; one son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Karen VanMeter of Texarkana, Texas; one brother-in-law, Dave McNully of North Little Rock, Arkansas; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mrs. VanMeter will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 2, 2009 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel in De Queen with burial following in the Millwee Cemetery .

The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Sunday, March 1st at the funeral home chapel.

Memorials may be made to the Eastern Star, Chapter 241 in De Queen.

Jack D. Cummings

Jack D. Cummings, age 76, a resident of Gillham, died Thursday, February 19, 2009 in Springdale, Arkansas .

He was born December 10, 1932 in the Stoner Community, Oklahoma to Ralph and Gladys Stevens Cummings. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served in the Korean Conflict and Vietname War.

Mr. Cummings was preceded in death by one brother, Ralph Houston Cummings.

He is survived by his son, Bill Cummings of Bentonville, Arkansas, two brothers, Winston Cummings of Duncan, Oklahoma and Bill Cummings of Shattuck, Oklahoma, one sister, Ruth Johnson of Riverside, California and a number of nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, February 26, 2009 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. J.L. Walker officiating.

The family will receive friends after the service at the Wilkerson Family Center .

Norma Jean Hall Pentecost

Mrs. Norma Jean Hall Pentecost, age 78, a resident of De Queen, died Sunday, February 22, 2009 in North Little Rock, Arkansas .

She was born April 13, 1930 in De Queen to John and Olivee Munn Hall. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.

Mrs. Pentecost was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Charles R. “Chase” Pentecost on January 6, 1999, and one brother, Lawrence Ray Hall.

She is survived by one son, Ron Pentecost of Spring, Texas ; one daughter, Lisa Caldwell of Sherwood, Arkansas ; one sister, Arlene Revels of De Queen; three grandchildren, Robert Pentecost, Colin Pentecost and Claire Caldwell and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside Funeral Services for Mrs. Pentecost will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 27, 2009 in the Mt. Ida Cemetery with Rev. Randy Davis officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Thursday, February 26th at the funeral home.

James C. Hampshire

James C. Hampshire, age 89, a resident of Foreman, AR, died Thursday, February 19, 2009 at his home.

He was born January 12, 1920 in Missouri to John O. and Ida Lyons Hampshire. He was a retired electrician and rancher. He served in the U.S. Air Force during WWII, was a member of the Foreman V.F.W. and the King Ryder Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife, Eleine Powell Hampshire of Foreman; a son and daughter-in-law, James E. and Anita Hampshire of Warsaw, MO ; two nieces, Jean Poore and Joyce Kops; and a granddaughter, Elizabeth Hampshire.

Graveside funeral services for Mr. Hampshire will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 24, 2009 in the Dollarhide Cemetery with James McRae, minister officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

Viewing will be on Monday from 8:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
