Claude Thomas Dorsey

Mr. Claude Thomas Dorsey, age 85, a resident of De Queen, died Monday, May 18, 2009, at the Christus St. Michael Hospital, Texarkana, Tex.
He was born to Derby Richard and Fronia Bell King Dorsey at Kingston, Arkansas, on September 25, 1923. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U. S. Army, and was twice Purple Heart Recipient. He was a retired truck driver, and was a member of the First Assembly of God Church of Horatio. He enjoyed horses, working in the garden, watching bull riding and rodeos.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Dianne Holden, a granddaughter, Lorissa Vickers Douglas, three brothers, Clyde, Charlie, and Alfred Dorsey, two sisters, Bessie Walls and Vesta Penner.

He is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Ruth Chandler Dorsey of De Queen, three sons and daughters-in-law, Richard Dorsey of Horatio, Billy and Donna Dorsey of Haworth, Okla.; and Mark and Robin Dorsey of De Queen; four daughters and sons-in-law, Claudette Taylor, Lana Jo and Larry Vickers, Danita Dorsey, and Tommi and Rob Smith, all of De Queen, three sisters, Juanita “Ned” Salmon of Cordell, Okla.; Sarah Britton of Sentinel, Okla.; and Jean Griffin of Horatio; twenty-five grandchildren, forty-four great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Claude Dorsey will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 21, 2009 in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Ralph Staggs and Bro. Charles Ligon officiating. Burial with military rites will follow in the Redmen Cemetery, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, May 20th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Bobby James Scott

Mr. Bobby James Scott, age 71, a resident of De Queen, Arkansas, died Friday, May 15, 2009 in Texarkana, Texas. He was born March 13, 1938 in Ardmore, Oklahoma. He was a retired plant manager for Danville Plywood, active in the Sevier County Rescue Unit and served in the U.S. Airforce.

Mr. Scott was preceded in death by his mother, Ethel May Franklin Scott, and one sister, Mary Ann Scott. He is survived by his wife, Laura Scott of De Queen; three children, Mary Thompson of Alaska, Lynwood Scott of De Queen, and Bobbi Rotter of Hoquiam, Washington; his father, Oral Neal Scott of Texoma Lake, Oklahoma ; two brothers, Oral N. Scott, Jr. and Billy Scott; one sister, Juanita Scott all of Strathmore, California; and eight grandchildren.

A gathering of friends and family will be, Saturday, May 23, 2009 at 1:00 p.m., at Mr. Scott’s home, 183 Lone Oak in De Queen.

Donna Lee Foster

Mrs. Donna Lee Foster, age 59, a resident of De Queen, and former resident of Idabel, Okla., died Monday, May 18, 2009, in the De Queen Medical Center, De Queen, Arkansas.
She was born to David Crockett and Katherine Marie Sanford Owens at Atlanta, Georgia, on September 12, 1949. She was a homemaker, and enjoyed camping and spending time with her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, James L. Owens, and Thomas E. Owens, and her husband, Thomas Don Foster.

She is survived by three sons, Denton Lee Foster of De Queen, Kenneth Don Foster and Christopher Ray Foster both of Canton, Texas,, two grandchildren, Tessa D-Lean Foster and Madison Jones both of Canton, Tex., two brothers, David C. Owens and Ronald G. Owens both of Texarkana, Tex., two sisters, Mary Ann Currier of De Queen, and Kathy Pugh of Texarkana, Tex, and a number of nieces and nephews.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Anita Ruth Gore Keen

Mrs. Anita Ruth Gore Keen, age 70, a resident of Horatio, Arkansas, died Sunday, May 17, 2009 at her home.

She was born November 20, 1938 in Horatio. She was a retired RN, having served 37 years with the Memorial Baptist Hospital System in Houston, Texas, and she was a member of the Dillworth Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Horatio, Arkansas.

Mrs. Keen was preceded in death by her parents, Wiley N. and Carrie Belle Gore; five sisters, Vada McKittrick, Clyta Tallman, Shirley Gore, Inis Appleby and Pearl Richardson, and two brothers, Anton Gore and Roger Gore.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Ralph Allen Keen; one son and daughter-in-law, Todd Allen and Tammy Marie Keen; one daughter, Karen Denice Connery; one sister, Doris Kitzman, all of Horatio; three grandchildren, Kari Walsh, Morgan Connery and Kendall Carney and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Keen will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 20, 2009 in the Dillworth Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Byron Sullivan officiating. Burial will follow in the Millwee Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

Memorials May be made to the American Diabetes. Assoc. or the American Kidney Fund.

Herman Odean Wilson

Mr. Herman Odean Wilson, age 76, a resident of Dierks, Arkansas, died Sunday, May 17, 2009 at his home.

He was born January 27, 1933 in Dierks. He was a member of the Dierks Church of Christ.

Mr. Wilson was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Hazel Stokes Wilson; his wife, Ruby Wilson; a sister, Bonnie Glover and one granddaughter, Casey Chandler.

He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Rita and David Chandler and Sherri and Chester Semmler; one son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Darla Wilson, all of Dierks; two sisters, Marjorie Allen also of Dierks and Bennie Lockwood of Clarksville, Arkansas; six grandchildren, Jennifer Chandler Wynn, Amanda Mize, Matthew Wilson, Nicole Brock, Dillon Semmler and Amy Semmler and four great-grandsons.

Funeral Services for Mr. Wilson will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 20, 2009 in the Dierks Church of Christ with Kelly Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the Fellowship Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in Dierks.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 19th at the funeral home in Dierks.

Annie Maxine Tollett Willis

Maxine Tollett Willis

Mrs. Annie Maxine Tollett Willis, age 77, a resident of Horatio, Arkansas, died Sunday, May 17, 2009, at her home.
She was born to Edgar William and Edna Frieda McWhorter Tollett at Provo, Arkansas, on September 23, 1931. She was a retired Nurse, a retired USDA Inspector, as well as a homemaker. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church of Horatio, and enjoyed working, games on the computer, crocheting, and watching soap operas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a son, Billy DeVasier, who died in Vietname War in 1967.

She is survived by her husband, Glynn Willis of Horatio, two sons and daughters-in-law, Hollis and Gwen DeVasier of Horatio, Ark., Danny and Shona DeVasier of Ashdown, Ark., two daughters and sons-in-law, Jennifer and Jaz Hayden of Frisco, Tex., Patricia and Darrin Higgins of De Queen, three brothers and sisters-in-law, Bobby Tollett of Texarkana, Ark., Jerry and Geri Tollett of Provo, Ark., and Benny and Liz Tollett of Waxahachie, Tex., one sister and brother-in-law, Katie and Chris Elkins of Texarkana, Tex, and a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Maxine Willis will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 19, 2009 in the First Assembly of God Church of Horatio, with Bro. Ralph Staggs, and Bro. Charles Ligon officiating. Burial will follow in the Clear Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, May 18th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Bon Franklin Cooper

Bon Franklin Cooper, age 102, a resident of Gillham, AR, died Wednesday, May 13, 2009 in Texarkana, TX.

He was born July 19, 1906 in Booneville, AR. He was a timber worker and a Baptist.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dora Cooper in 2005; a son, Leslie Cooper, his parents, James Terrell and Cora Elizabeth Buckner Cooper; two grandsons and one great grandson.

He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Ray and Carolyn Cooper of Steens, MS; two daughters and a son-in-law, Inez and Hurbert Stevenson of Dinuba, CA and Peggy Harris of Texarkana, TX; two sisters, Irene Wax of Gillham and Christine Watkins of Wickes; seven grandchildren, and a number of great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mr. Cooper will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 16, 2009 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Gillham Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 16 at the funeral home.

Brooke Danielle Ackley

Brooke Danielle Ackley, age 1 month 28 days, of Dierks, Arkansas, was born March 10, 2009 in Hot Springs, Arkansas. She passed from this life on Friday, May 8, 2009 at her home.

Brooke is survived by her parents, Heath Donald and Jamie Lynette Whitaker Ackley of Dierks; two sisters, Madison and Zoie Ackley; a twin brother Brayden; maternal grandparents, Charles and Sheila Whitaker of Newhope, Arkansas; paternal grandparents, George and Carolyn Ackley of Nashville, Arkansas; great grandparents, Ray and Ethel Pinkerton of Newhope, Wilma Whitaker of Dierks and Lendell and Wilma Cogburn Hale of Dierks; great great-grandmothers, Beatrice Arnold of Dierks and Nellie Hall of Mt. View, Arkansas; one aunt and two uncles, Kaela and Clay Beilstein of Bismark, Arkansas and Adam Ackley of Nashville, Arkansas.

She is preceded in death by four great grandparents, J.W. “Cotton” Whitaker, Thomas and Alma Ackley and Jewell Cogburn.

Funeral Services for Brooke Danielle Ackley will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 13, 2009 in the Pleasant Grove Free Will Baptist Church with Kenny Fant and Roger Arnold officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery near Newhope under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in Dierks.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 12th at the funeral home in Dierks.

Crystal Lynn Johnson Sharp

Mrs. Crystal Lynn Johnson Sharp, age 39, a resident of De Queen, died Thursday, May 7, 2009.

She was born to Mel and Daina Phillips Johnson at Texarkana, Texas, on March 26, 1970. She was a 1990 graduate of De Queen High School, and was a member of the Rose Hill Baptist Church of De Queen. She was a homemaker, and enjoyed reading, listening to music, and was an avid animal lover, and very interested in the Humane Society.

She was preceded in death by her father, Mel Johnson, her maternal grandparents, Bill and Lola Phillips, and her paternal grandparents: Sam and Anna Johnson.

She is survived by two sons, Tim Sharp, Jr. and Johnathan Sharp both of De Queen, her mother, Daina Johnson of De Queen, two brothers and a sister-in-law, Melvin and Valerie Johnson, and Bradley Wayne Johnson, all of Texarkana, Texas, and a number aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services for Mrs. Crystal Johnson Sharp will be held on Friday, May 15, 2009, at 2:00 p.m., in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. David Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the Chapel Hill Cemetery, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, May 14th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Crystal Johnson Sharp Memorial Fund for Domestic Violence Victims, Southwest Arkansas Domestic Violence Center, P. Clyde Clinton Thompson Jr.

Dr. Clyde Clinton Thompson, Jr., age 83, a resident of De Queen, AR died Wednesday, June 10, 2009 in Texarkana, Texas.

He was born November 25, 1925 in De Queen. He was a retired dentist, a member of the First Christian Church in De Queen, a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, a former member of the De Queen Lions Club and served on the First National Bank of De Queen Board of Directors.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Grace Leeper Thompson.

Mr. Thompson is survived by his wife Twila Pearson Thompson; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Stan and Shelley Thompson and Larry Thompson all of De Queen; one sister, Betty Thompson Reed of Paris, Texas; one granddaughter Melody Gray and her husband, Roderick and one great-granddaughter, Carolyn Michelle Gray all of Little Rock, Arkansas; three aunts, Carolyn Leeper of Dallas, Texas, Mary E. Leichliter also of Dallas and Cornelia Suenram of Bethany, Oklahoma.

Funeral Services for Mr. Thompson will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 12, 2009 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Doug Dorris officiating. Burial will follow in the Redmen Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday, June 11th at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Clyde and Twila Thompson Trust Fund, c/o First National Bank in De Queen or the First Christian Church in De Queen.
