Tabitha Louise Brown Burdine

Tabitha Louise Brown Burdine, age 95, born August 11, 1914 to Allen “J.C.” and Emma White Brown in Columbia County, Arkansas returned to the Lord whom she served on January 2, 2010.

Tabitha was well-known in Polk and Sevier Counties and was a kind, caring, God loving woman, caring for and serving her family and others. She especially loved the Church of Christ that meets in Wickes, and its members, who were her Christian family. She and Reginald were part of the original group of Christians who met in Wickes in the late 1930’s.

She and Reginald moved to Polk County in the late 1930’s and lived on a hill above Rolling Fork Creek until 1948 when they moved to New Mexico to cut timber. They lived in New Mexico until 1964 when they returned to Wickes to farm and raise chickens until 1994 when Reginald passed away. Tabitha continued to divide her time between her home in Wickes and the homes of her son and daughter.

Tabitha loved to quilt and garden and some of her happiest times were spent with her sister Maybelle and her niece, Mary Sanders, canning and freezing the produce from her garden. She also loved her grandchildren and had all five of them at her home during summers, until they were teenagers. Her love for children was still evident with her great-grandchildren and children of church members. She spent as much time as she could with them, until her health made it impossible to do so.

We, her family and friends, will miss her presence, but there is no doubt that our mother, sister and friend is now in the arms of the Lord Jesus, along with Reginald and a host of other relatives and friends who went before her. Her greatest accomplishment was serving others in the name of the Lord. To God be the glory for her life!

Funeral Services for Mrs. Burdine will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 5, 2009 in the Wickes Church of Christ with Pastor David Jacobs officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00p.m., Monday, January 4th at the funeral home.
