Maria DeJesus Ortiz

Mrs. Maria DeJesus Ortiz, age 71, a resident of De Queen, died Friday, January 29, 2010 in the De Queen Medical Center.

She was born June 16, 1938 in Geguerro, Mexico. She was a homemaker and a Catholic.

Mrs. Ortiz was preceded in death by her parents, Ricarda Castro and Froilan Ortiz; her husband, Alberto Pioquinto, two brothers, Guadalupe Ortiz and Antonio Ortiz, two sisters Jova Castro and Juventina.

She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Wenceslao and Lisa Ortiz of Mineral Springs, AR, Andres and Lorenza Pioquinto of DeQueen, AR, Edilberto and Tina Ortiz of Nashville, AR, and Antonio Martinez of Cernavaco Mo, Mexico; eight daughters and sons-in-law, Juana and late husband Alejandro Bahena of Florida City, FL, Teresa and Ruben Ortiz of Mexico City, Mexico, Petra P. Ortiz of Mexico City, Mexico, Concepcion and late husband Jose Flores of Guerrero, Mexico, Eudocia and Virctor Hernandez of Mexico City, Mexico, Paulita and Vicente Trujillo of DeQueen, AR, Maria and Roberto Perez of DeQueen, AR and Maricela and Ciro Navarete of Gilliam, AR; four brothers, Epifanio Pioquinto and Mario Oritz both of Mexico City, Mexico, Juan Pioquinto of Guerrero, Mexico, Enrrique Ortiz of Cuernavaca Mo, Mexico. Forty-nine grandchildren and twenty-nine great grandchildren.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Ortiz will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, January 31, 2010 in the St. Barbara’s Catholic Church in De Queen with Father Jose Galvez officiating. Burial will follow in the Redman cemetery under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

Carl Bismark

Mr. Carl Bismark, age 90, of Mena, passed away Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at his home.
He was born August 25, 1919 in Hatton, Arkansas to the late Werner Bismark and the late Gertrude Kindler Bismark of Hatton. He was united in marriage to the late Bessie Hogan Bismark. He was a farmer by trade and was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend.

He is survived by:

Son: Paul Bismark and wife Jeanie of Magnolia, Arkansas Daughter: Elizabeth Frachiseur and husband David of Grannis, Arkansas

Daughter-in-Law: Nora Cogburn Bismark of Mena, Arkansas

Brothers: Henry Bismark of Springfield, Utah; Richard Bismark of Hatton, Arkansas

Sisters: Nora Shockley of Salem, Oregon; Lydia Fox of Shelton, Washington

Grandsons: Carl Bismark and wife Brandy of Magnolia, Arkansas; Chris Frachiseur and wife Ann of Grannis, Arkansas

Granddaughters: Beth Maree Bismark of McKinney, Texas; Kimberly Sykora and husband Mike of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas; Deanna Kimbell and husband Dan of Louisville, Kentucky; Melinda Deramus and husband Tony of Mena, Arkansas; Crystal Wheeler and husband Matt of Russellville, Arkansas

Great-Grandsons: Will Bismark of Magnolia, Arkansas; Zach and Tyler Sykora of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas; Bradley, Brandon and Jacob Deramus of Mena, Arkansas; Coy Frachiseur of Grannis, Arkansas; Great- Granddaughters: Marley Bismark of Magnolia, Arkansas; Gracie Deramus of Mena, Arkansas; Danielle Frachiseur of Grannis, Arkansas; Riley and Bailee Wheeler of Russellville, Arkansas

He was preceded in death by his parents, Werner and Gertrude Bismark; his wife Bessie Hogan Bismark; a son, William Bismark; a great-grandson, Daniel Frachiseur; 3 sisters, Helen Bell, Hedwig (Haddie) Sanders, and Gertrude Cook; and 1 brother, Ernst (Buster) Bismark.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 29, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Beasley-Wood Chapel with Dr. Lamar Austin officiating. Interment follows in Witherspoon Cemetery under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. Visitation will be general.

Pallbearers will be Mike Sykora, Tony Deramus, Carl Bismark, Chris Frachiseur, Matt Wheeler, and Zack Sykora. Honorary pallbearers will be Tyler Sykora, Bradley Deramus, Brandon Deramus, Coy Frachiseur, Jacob Deramus, and William Bismark.

Walter L. Ayers

Walter L. Ayers, age 83, of Queen City, Texas. died Sunday, January 24, 2010.

Walter was born November 9, 1926 in De Queen, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Cordella McRay Ayers; his wife Elizabeth Fay Ayers; daughter, Sharon Ayers; son Lloyd Ray Ayers; and sister and brother-in-law, Imogene and Chester Story.

He is survived by three sons, Jimmy Ayers of Joplin, Missouri, Billy Wayne Ayers of Oklahoma, and Michael Crane and wife Kristy of Queen City, Texas; one daughter, Fay Ayers of Queen City, Texas; three grandsons, Shannon, and Christopher Ayers of Lakeside, California, and Kevin Ayers of Queen City, Texas. 3 great-grandchildren Kelleigh Ayers of Queen City, Texas. Hannah and Ethan Crane of Queen City, Texas. and a number of other relatives.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00pm Saturday, January 30, 2010 at the Chapel Hill Cemetery, De Queen, Arkansas with Rev. Tim Johnson officiating.

Burial will be under the direction of Hanner Funeral Service.

Myrl Taylor Miller Tosh

Myrl Taylor Miller Tosh, age 89, of Mena, Arkansas passed away Tuesday, January 26, 2010 in Mena.

She was born September 18, 1920 in Gladewater, Texas to the late Daffin E. Taylor and the late Velmer Holden Taylor. She was united in marriage to the late W. D. Miller until his passing on October 31, 1969 and then to the late Delbert John Tosh, who preceded her in death on January 26, 1992. Mrs. Tosh was a homemaker and was a member of the Cove First Baptist Church, and was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, and friend.

She is survived by:

Numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren

She was preceded in death by her parents, Daffin and Velmer Taylor, her first husband, W. D. Miller, her second husband, Delbert Tosh, a son, William Gene Miller, 2 brothers, Otis and Glen Taylor, 2 sisters, Virginia Drew and Mildred Taylor, a grandson, George Smith, Jr., a great-grandson, Jonathan Smith, and a step-grandson, Chris Byrum.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 30, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Cove First Baptist Church with Brother Donnie Jewell and Brother Reggie Fryar officiating. Interment follows in Pleasant Grove Cemetery at Cove under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. A visitation for family and friends will be Friday evening, January 29th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Glen Miller, Lonnie Miller, Charlie Bishop, Paul Miller, Stephen Stricklin, Andy Miller, Robbie Miller, and James Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be her great-grandsons, Joe Miller, Austin Miller, Marc Byrum, Billy Bob Brewer, Anthony Frachiseur, Ty Frachiseur, and B. J. White.

Francisco Alexander Aguilar

Francisco Alexander Aguilar, age 2, a resident of De Queen, AR died Sunday, January 24, 2010 at his home.

He was born December 23, 2007 in Texarkana, TX to Anatalio and Nereyda Basa Aguilar.

In addition to his parents he is survived by two brothers, Jovanni and Daniel Aguilar; one sister, Daisy Aguilar; his paternal grandparents, Guzman and Lorenza Aguilar; his maternal grandparents, Federico and Fausta Basa; his uncles, Ruben, Arturo and Orlando; and his aunts, Rebecca, Ortencia and Rubicelia.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 25, 2010 in the St. Barbara Catholic Church with Father Jose Galvez officiating. Burial will follow in the Redmen Cemetery under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

Lue Rhea Northam Stuart

Mrs. Lue Rhea Northam Stuart, age 93, a resident of De Queen, died Saturday, January 23, 2010, in Christus St. Michael Health System, Texarkana, Texas.

She was born to John Dallas and Dovie Mae Martin Northam at Dangerfield, Texas, on April 25, 1916.

She was retired from Lane Poultry, as well as a homemaker. She was a member of the Chapel Hill Baptist Church, and enjoyed animals, especially cats, gardening, and painting.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Edwin Stuart, and a grandson Jerry Cound.

She is survived by two sons and daughter-in-law, Gerald and Sharon Cound of Little Rock, Ar. and Kenneth and Penny Cound of Phoenix, Az. Two daughters and a son-in-law, Brenda Wishard, and Karen and Larry Mills all of De Queen, Ar. A brother, J.D. Northam of Manchester, TN., ten grandchildren, Mike, Rodney, Chela, Johnny, Bevin, Greg, Robert, Scottie, Gary, and Andrew, twenty-one great-grandchildren, and two nieces.

Funeral Servives for Mrs. Lue Rhea Stuart are intrusted to Chandler Funeral Home, and will be held at 2:00P.M., Tuesday, January 26th in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with bro. ray Brown officiating. burial will follow in the Chapel Hill Cemetery, De Queen. The family will recieve friends at chandler Funeral Home on Monday, January 25th from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Sevier County or to the Sevier County Museum.

William Thomas “Billy” Hedge

William Thomas “Billy” Hedge, age 85, of Wickes, Arkansas, passed away January 20, 2010, at his home.

He was born May 15, 1924 at Wickes, Arkansas, to the late Ben Hedge and the late Beulah Smith Hedge of Wickes. He was united in marriage to Addie Doice Kuykendall, also of Wickes on February 1, 1943, at De Queen. They had been married almost 67 years. Billy was a carpenter and a watchmaker by profession and loved restoring antique clocks. He was also a member of the board of the Wickes Daniel Cemetery for over 25 years and took great pride in beautifying and restoring it. Billy oversaw the new graves and burials and kept the community involved by writing fundraising letters. He was a decorated veteran of the 464th Bomber Group of the 15th Air Force of the United States Army. During World War II he was stationed in Italy and flew 50 missions in the European theatre. He was a devout Christian, a member of the Church of God, and was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend.

He is survived by:

Vernon and Marilyn Hedge Blair of Wickes, Arkansas

Paige and John Larry Hedge of Wickes, Arkansas

Mark and Karen Hedge Robbins of Mena, Arkansas

Daughters-in-Law: Debbie Hedge of Wickes, Arkansas

Marsha Hedge of Lincoln, Arkansas

12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Beulah Hedge, 2 brothers, Grady and Irwin Hedge, and 2 sons, Bobby and Dennis Hedge.

Funeral services will be Sunday, January 24, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. at the Daniel Cemetery Chapel with Mr. Roger West and Mr. David Stiffler officiating. Interment follows after the service under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. Visitation at the funeral home will be general and a visitation for family and friends will be at the Daniel Chapel beginning at 11:00 a.m., prior to the service.

Pallbearers will be Daniel Hedge, Thomas Barrett, Joe Compagna, Josh Hennings, Andy Youngblood and Don Youngblood.
