Dessie Vern Carter Chaney

Mrs. Dessie Vern Carter Chaney, age 79, a resident of De Queen, died Tuesday, January 19, 2010 in the De Queen Medical Center.

She was born September 8, 1930 in Zefra, Oklahoma. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church in De Queen.

Mrs. Chaney was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Effie McBroom Carter; her husband, James George Chaney on February 2, 1979; and one great-grandson, Steven Daniel.

She is survived by one son, James Franklin Chaney of Hot Springs; two daughters, Kathryn Bivins of Gillham, and Carolyn Vance of Horatio; one sister, Sarah Oliver of Gillham; two brothers, Henry McBroom and Arvo McBroom, both of Octavia, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Nichole Maish, James Vance, Shane Vance, and Vanessa Abney; three great-grandchildren, Hannah and Michael Maish and Megan Rose Abney and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mrs. Chaney will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 22, 2010 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles Hebert officiating. Burial will be at 2:00p.m. on Friday in the Little Rock National Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday, January 21, 2010.

George David Talley

Mr. George David Talley, age 77, passed away Sunday, January 17, 2010 at Wickes.

He was born September 11, 1932 in Smyrna, Arkansas to the late Austin Tom Talley and the late Rhoda Etta Evans Talley. He was united in marriage to Mary Alice Hughes on November 17, 1951. Mr. Talley was in dirt construction by profession, and was also a veteran, serving his country in the National Guard. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He was loved and will be missed by all that knew him.

He is survived by Wife: Mary Talley of the home Son: Donald Talley and wife Cathy of Wickes, Arkansas. Daughter: Angie Blanton and husband Steve of DeQueen, Arkansas. Brother: Bud Talley of Grand Prairie, Texas. Sisters: Dean Grantham of Longmont, California Shirley Rose of Garland, Texas. 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Austin and Rhoda Talley, 3 sisters, Helen Pryor, Ethel Martin, and Joyce Lyle, and a great-granddaughter, Savannah Rose Blanton.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 22, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the Wickes Pentecostal Church of God with Brother Chris Burke officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. Visitation will be general.

Pallbearers will be Rex Herring, Terry Paul Holman, Weston Burke, Danny Cunningham, David Hughes, Junior Flint, and Dale White. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Lyles, Steve Blanton, and Donald Talley.

Theo Wausita Lisenby Hinton

Mrs. Theo Wausita Lisenby Hinton "Aunt Wart" and "Nana", was born November 29, 1930 near the King Ryder Community in Little River County, Arkansas to Joe Whitney and Ona Mae Smith Lisenby. She passed from this life on Tuesday, January 19, 2010 in the St. Michael Health System in Texarkana, Texas.

She attended grade school at Oak Grove and King Ryder, graduating from Foreman High School in 1949. She graduated from Capital City business College; she was a former employee of General Telephone in Texarkana, past president of the Foreman PTA, and later attended Texarkana College. She served the city of Foreman as recorder/treasurer, mayor and councilwoman. She was a former Red River Army Depot (NAF-DFAS) employee. She was also a lifetime member of the VFW auxiliary post #4562, and a member of the DAV Ladies auxiliary. She held several chairs including both auxiliary and district president, served on the Democratic Central Committee, was a member of the New Boston American Legion and a member of the Church of Christ.

Mrs. Hinton was preceded in death by her husband, Ervin Hinton in 2008; her father; an infant brother, and a sister, Oletta.

She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Eugene Ladell and Kathy Hinton and Franklin Doyce Hinton; her mother, Ona Lisenby; one brother and sister-in-law, James T. and Betty Lisenby, all of Foreman; two grandchildren, Whitney Ladell Hinton and his wife, April, and Sarah Elizabeth Hinton and her finance, Dustin Roan; three great grandchildren, Karsyn Roan, Bailee Skinner and John Robert Skinner; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and very special cousins.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Hinton will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 22, 2010 in the Foreman Church of Christ. Burial will follow in the Dollarhide Cemetery under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6:00-9:00 p.m., Thursday, January 21, 2010 in the Foreman Church of Christ.
Memorials may be made to Southern Christian Home, 100 W. Harding Street, Morrilton, AR 72110 or the VFW Cancer Research Center, 406 Harvard Street SE, Minneapolis, MN 55455.

Albert Dirickson

Mr. Albert Dirickson, Jr., age 75, a resident of Horatio, Arkansas, died Friday, January 15th in the De Queen Medical Center.
He was born to Albert and Lola Faye Younger Dirickson at Dale, Ill., on January 11, 1935. He was a retired heavy equipment operator, and truck driver. He was a member of the Old Center Holiness Church, and enjoyed working in his shop, and collecting flags and eagles.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Alton Dirickson in 1990, two brothers, Ernest and Donald Dirickson, a sister, Juanita Shaffer, and a son-in-law, Duane Bertling.

He is survived by his wife of over 45 years, Lucille Phelps Dirickson of Horatio, three sons, Albert Allen Dirickson of Tucker, Arkansas, Anthony Allen Dirickson of Horatio, Ark.; and Casey Lee Dirickson of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, one daughter, Lola Lee Bertling of Horatio, two grandchildren, Tiffany Bertling, U.S. military, Duncan, Okla., Krystal, and her husband, Matt Robinson of Horatio, one great-grandchild, Adreonia “Addie” Robinson of Horatio, one sister, Betty Matherly of Buckeye, Arizona, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Albert Dirickson are entrusted to Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen, and will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 19th in the Old Center Holiness Church, Horatio, with Bro. Sam Hendricks officiating. Burial will follow in the Old Center Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Chandler Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, January 18th.

Billy Dale Tallant

Mr. Billy "Bill" Dale Tallant, age 65, a resident of Gillham, died Monday, April 12, 2010 in Crystal Falls Healthcare in De Queen.

He was born May 1, 1944 in Eagletown, Oklahoma. He was a mechanic.

Mr. Tallant was preceded in death by his parents, Lee Ervin and Edith Mae Hensley Tallant; one brother, Ronald Tallant.

He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Leslie and Susan Tallant of De Queen; three daughters and a son-in-law, Tammy Tallant of Gillham, Tara and Richard Saddler of Wickes and Lea Ann "Chubs" Dinwiddie of Mena; three brothers, Dorsey Hensley of Ardmore, Oklahoma, Gary "Cobb" Tallant and Lee Ervin Tallant, Jr. both of Winthrop; one sister, Judy Williams of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; the mother of his children, Betty Driver; 10 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, one uncle and aunt, Freddie "Wig" and Sue Tallant of Winthrop, and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral Services for Mr. Tallant will be held at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 14, 2010 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Chet Brake officiating. Burial will follow in the Campground Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 13th at the funeral home in De Queen.

Mrs. Delta McDonald Sharp

Mrs. Delta McDonald Sharp, age 86, a resident of Lockesburg, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 11, 2010 in the De Queen Medical Center.

She was born March 17, 1924 in Lockesburg. She was retired from Baldwin Corp., honored with District farm family of the year in 1972, enjoyed going to gospel singings, cooking, spending time with family and friends and was a member of the Damascus Baptist Church in Melrose.

Mrs. Sharp was preceded in death by her parents, Lon and Myrtle McDonald.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Dulaney (Dee) Sharp; two sons and a daughter-in-law, James Sharp of Lockesburg and Gary and Donna Sharp of Dallas, Texas; three grandsons, Greg Sharp of Bloomberg, Texas and Ron and Marlon Sharp of Lockesburg; one granddaughter, Jennifer Noonan of Dallas, Texas; 10 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside Funeral Services for Mrs. Sharp will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 14, 2010 in the Bellville Cemetery with Rev. Wallace Wooten officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 13th at the funeral home.

Thomas Andrew Lofton

Thomas Andrew Lofton, January 27, 1929 died March 13 2010. He was born in Dierks Arkansas to Oliver Leach and Ethel Lofton. Tom graduated from Dierks High School and served in the Army and Army Reserve from 1947 through 1952. Tom was a life long member of the United Methodist Church.

Tom is survived by his wife betty, his son Tom, Jr. and significant partner Brenda Booker; his two grandsons and there wives Jeremy & Noel Lofton and Nick & Reno Lofton, one great-grandchildren, Amberle, daughter of Jeremy and Noel; four brothers and sisters, Mildred Cotheren of Dierks, AR. Kenneth Lofton and his wife Florene of Dierks, Ar. Mary and her husband Junior Lee of Athens, TX. and OL Lofton and his wife Betty of Broken Bow, Ok; and a brother-in-law Col. Harold Miller and his wife Virginia of South Columbia, South Carolina.

Memorial Services will be held in Dierks, Ar. on Saturday April 10, 2010 at 11:00 am at Dierks United Methodist Church. Family is requesting donations to the united Methodist Commission on Relief.

Oteneth Ancel (O. A.) Turner

Oteneth Ancel (O. A.) Turner, age 88, a resident of Dierks, AR, died Easter Sunday, April 4, 2010 at Howard Memorial Hospital in Nashville, AR.

He was born Dec. 14, 1921 in New Hope, AR to Lucinda (Aylor) Turner and Archie Weaver Turner. O. A. was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corp. During WWII, he fought in the 7th Army and the 3rd Army under General George Patton. His platoon crossed the Rhine River, was in the Battle of the Bulge and walked across Europe liberating soldiers and cities from the Nazi’s. O. A. was a heavily decorated soldier. After the war ended, he returned home and started a small sawmill.

O. A. was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years, Flodean (Hunter) Turner, his grandson, Chance Turner, his sisters, Eunice Shaw and Lois Blackwood, his brothers Elton Turner and Bobby Gene Turner, 1 sister and 1 brother as infants.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Larry and LaJuana Turner, his daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Roy Farrow, his granddaughters, Paige Shields, Amber Taggard and Lacey Farrow, his grandson, Josh Farrow and his great-grandson, Speed Shields. O. A. is also survived by his sisters, Mary Helen Young and Billie Ruth Fant, his brother, Elveray Turner and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

O. A. was a lifelong musician and could play multiple instruments. He was a league bowler, a carpenter and a great cook and jelly maker. He loved his family, loved to laugh and truly enjoyed little children.

O. A. has been a member of the Church of Christ in Dierks since the 60’s. He was also an active member of the Dierks Senior Citizens Center and spent lots of time visiting people in nursing homes.

Funeral services will be held at 10 am Saturday, April 10 at Wilkerson Funeral Home in Dierks with Kenny Fant officiating. Burial will be at Saline Cemetery near Athens, AR.

The family will receive friends from 6pm to 8pm, Friday, April 9, also at Wilkerson Funeral Home in Dierks.
