Michael Harvey Jordan, age 72, a resident of Lockesburg, AR died Thursday, August 5, 2010 in De Queen, AR.
He was born February 14, 1938 in Arkansas. He was a steel worker for Mid-Continent Steel.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank Jordan and Gail Jordan.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda Dickettes Jordan; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Mark and Alyshia Jordan of Lockesburg and Michael Mark Jordan of Kentucky; a brother, Paul Jordan of Broken Bow, OK; a sister, Eva Jordan, also of Broken Bow; three granddaughters, Macayla, Amber and Alana.
Memorial services for Mr. Jordan are pending.
Opal Watson Hogg
Mrs. Opal Watson Hogg, age 87, a resident of Dierks, Arkansas died Saturday, August 7, 2010 in Dierks, AR.
She was born July 25, 1923 in Howard County, Arkansas to John L and Caroline Bard Watson. She was the former owner of the Burger Hut in Dierks and a member of the Dierks Methodist Church.
Mrs. Hogg was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Hogg on May 2, 2004, a son, Ronald Hogg; six brothers, Hubert Watson, Kelsie Watson, Wesley Watson, Lawrence Watson, Lake Watson and Nelson Watson; three sisters, Stella Alexander, Della Alexander and Lois Shelton.
She is survived by a son and daughter–in-law; Don and Bonnie Hogg of DeQueen, AR; two grandchildren and their spouses, Jeff and Suzanne Hogg of Tyler, TX and Jennifer and Scott White of Magnolia, AR; three great- grandchildren, Savannah Hogg, Jenson White and Lawson White, and a number of nieces and nephews
Funeral Services for Mrs. Hogg will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, August 9, 2010 in the Dierks Methodist Church with and Robert Lyons officiating. Burial will follow in the Green’s Chapel Cemetery
under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in Dierks.
The family will receive friends 6 – 8 p.m. Sunday, August 8, 2010 at the funeral home in Dierks, AR.
Archie Cothren
Archie Cothren of Dierks, Arkansas, passed from this life into eternal life at 10:05 P.M., on Wednesday, August 4, 2010, at the John L. McClellan Veterans Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was 93 years, 6 months, and 29 days old. Archie was born in Center Point, Arkansas on January 6, 1917, to Virgil and Dora (Payne) Cothren. He moved to Dierks in 1919, and has lived there ever since. He attended school at Dierks and graduated in 1934.
On December 4, 1941, Archie joined in the World War II war effort. He joined the United States Army Air Corps. He was a member of the 92nd Bomb Group; 407th Squadron and served as a Staff Sergeant. He was a waist gunner on a B-17 Bomber known as the Flying Fortress and was a part of the first heavy bomb group to ever fly overseas in formation.
On, October 9, 1942, he was hit by anti-aircraft fire over France. He was taken prisoner of War and spent 31 months in German Prisoner of War Camps. He was the first American Prisoner of War to step foot in Stalag 17B. He received the 17th Purple Heart issued in Europe in World War II. He boosted the prisoners’ morale by organizing sports and activities to occupy their time, hearts, and minds. He was liberated by the Russian Army on May 8, 1945. He received the E.A.M.E. Campaign Medal with one Bronze Battle Star, the Purple Heart, the Victory Medal, the American Theater Medal, and the American Defense Service Medal. He is a lifetime member of the VFW Post 2256 in Benton and was a member of the American Legion.
Archie served his community, county, and state in various ways upon returning. He coordinated Veterans’ programs in Dierks, helped in the 1952 gubernatorial race, and served as Justice of the Peace for 46 years and performed over 150 marriage ceremonies.
He started officiating football games in 1938, and officiated for 57 years. He holds the record for the longest football officiating career in the world. He received state and national awards including being inducted into the Arkansas High School Hall of Fame in 1996.
Archie was an insurance agent, served as a municipal judge, quartermaster of the Dierks VFW Post, Boy Scout Master, assisted with the Dierks Medical Association, served on the Howard County Library Board, and was awarded the Dierks Chamber of Commerce Lifetime Service Award.
Archie was preceeded in death by his first wife Martha Isabel (Wynn) Cothren, his second wife Martha Maude (Edwards) Cothren, his father and mother Virgil and Dora Cothren, his brothers Duncan Cothren and Wat Cothren, and his sister Rose Beryl (Cothren) Reese.
He is survived by his daughter Martha Rose Cothren; his son and daughter in law Archie Wynn “Cotton” and Holly (Harris) Cothren; three grandchildren Sarah Isabel Cothren, Charlotte Devereux Cothren, and John Patrick Cothren; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends from all over the nation.
Archie was a national hero who helped this country win World War II and rebuild into the strongest nation on earth.
Funeral Services for Mr. Cothren will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, August 8, 2010 in the Holly Creek Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Driggers and Doyle Clifton officiating. Burial with 
military Honors by VFW Post 2278 will follow in the Centerpoint Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in Dierks.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Saturday, August 7th at the funeral home in Dierks.
Cary Neil Leverett
Cary Neil Leverett, age 39, a resident of Horatio, Arkansas, died Wednesday, August 4, 2010, at Bauxite, Arkansas.
He was born January 21, 1971, in De Queen, Arkansas, was a graduate of Henderson State University, and a member of First Southern Baptist Church of Crossroads, Winthrop, Arkansas. He worked as a Millwright and Pipefitter for several construction firms across the United States.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Reverend Russell and Mrs. Dorothy Armer and Mr. and Mrs. Fay Leverett.
He is survived by his parents, Gene and Louise Armer Leverett of Horatio, Arkansas, one brother, Kevin W. Leverett of Queen City, Texas, one sister, Gena Leverett Sannes and her husband Tony Sannes of Bauxite, Arkansas; three nieces, Keagan Leverett of Queen City, Texas, Kristal Leverett of New Boston, Texas, and Elle Sannes of Bauxite, Arkansas, two uncles and three aunts.
Funeral Services for Mr. Leverett will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 7, 2010, at First Southern Baptist Church of Crossroads with Reverend Gary Steiner officiating. Burial will follow in the Horatio Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, August 6th at the funeral home.
Phyllis Dunlap Hankins
Phyllis Dunlap Hankins age 59 of Arkadelphia died Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at Baptist Health Medical Center in Arkadelphia, Arkansas after a year-long battle with cancer. She was born April 15, 1951, the daughter of William Buryl and Nola Belle Dunlap. She received her Bachelor of Science in Education from Henderson State University in 1974. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Arkadelphia and worked at the Arkadelphia Human Development Center for 28 years. Phyllis was committed to community affairs and actively volunteered for the Diamond Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross and the Clark County Humane Society, was a member of the Clark County Strategic Plan Healthcare Subcommittee, and served as president of the Arkadelphia School Board. She was also a Kiwanis Club member, served the Girl Scouts as leader and advisor, was a member of Friends of AETN, and was dedicated to her work with the Volunteer Council for the Arkadelphia Human Development Center.
Her husband, Herman H. Hankins Jr. and her father, William Buryl Dunlap preceded her in death.
Survivors include her daughter, Hope Hankins of Arkadelphia, AR; her mother, Nola Belle Dunlap of Arkadelphia AR; her sister, Sherry Hancock and husband, Paul of Ft. Worth, TX; her brother, Buryl Keith Dunlap and wife, DeLynn Hearn of North Little Rock, AR; her sister, Theresa Bowles and husband, Clint of Rogers, AR; her sister-in-law, Jean Ellen White of Hot Springs, AR; her brother-in-law, Dr. James W. Hankins and wife Beverly of Arkadelphia, AR; her son-in-law, Paul Oder of North Little Rock, AR; special family friend, Robert Hancock of Little Rock, AR; along with many other beloved family and friends.
We thank Phyllis for her faithfulness to God, her family, friends, community and First Presbyterian Church. She will be greatly missed.
Memorial services will be at 2:00 PM Sunday, August 8th at First Presbyterian Church of Arkadelphia with Rev. Kendall Land officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall. Glendon Bryan Youngblood
Glendon Bryan Youngblood, age 34, a resident of Gillham, Arkansas died Saturday, July 31, 2010 in De Queen.
He was born December 14, 1975 in Mena, AR. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in De Queen and an avid hunter and fisherman.
Glendon was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bryan and Helen Musgrave and Will and Minnie Youngblood.
He is survived by his wife, Mandy Kesterson Youngblood; one son, Lyndon Youngblood; one daughter, Rylee Youngblood; his parents, Gaylen and Claudette Youngblood, all of Gillham; one sister, Gayla Morphew of De Queen; a number of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, August 2, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. in the First Baptist Church in De Queen with Rev. Charles Herbert officiating. Burial will follow in the Duckett Cemetery
under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

Glenda Jane Hollers
Glenda Jane Hollers 58, of Sulphur Springs passed away Thursday, July 29, 2010 at Home Place Hospice of East Texas in Tyler. She was born in De Queen, AR on August 29, 1951 the daughter of J.C. and Chloe Ransom Gentry.
She married Richard William Hollers in Sulphur Springs on March 16, 2007. She was a homemaker and member of First Baptist Church of Sulphur Springs.
She is preceded in death by her father, J.C. Gentry and brother, Joel Gentry.

Visitation will be 6:00 till 8:00 p.m., Friday, July 30, 2010 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.

Carl Lester Ward
Mr. Carl Lester Ward, age 62, a resident of Grannis, Arkansas, died Wednesday, July 28, 2010 in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
He was born March 5, 1948 in Colorado City, Texas. He was a truck driver, a U.S. Army veteran and a member of the Pentecostal Church.
Mr. Ward was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Willie Mae Watkins Ward; one son, C.L. Dering; and three brothers, Donny Dering, Bill Dering, Jr. and Elmer Ward, Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Jeannine Terrell Ward of Grannis; four sons, Billy Dering of Alaska, Robert Lewis Dering and Terrell Edward Dering both of Grannis, and Christopher Andrew Terrell of Russellville, Arkansas; four daughters, Jeanie Broach and Kellie Warren of Grannis, Tiffany Terrell and Jennifer Terrell both of Russellville; three brothers, Rocky Dering of Grannis, Ray Dering of Carthage, Texas and Benton Ward of Colorado City, Texas; three sisters, Vivian Collins of Snyder, Texas, Charlene Gaddis of Colorado City, Texas and Betty Lou Dering of Dallas, Texas and 15 grandchildren.
