Vivian Milam Wall

Mrs. Vivian Milam Wall, age 81, a resident of De Queen, AR died Thursday, September 30, 2010 in the Brookewood Nursing Center in De Queen.

She was born September 18, 1929 in Vandervoort, AR. She was retired from FmHA, worked for U-Lock-It Storage in De Queen and was a member of the Chapel Hill Baptist Church. Her hobbies included square dancing, clogging, bowling and sewing.

Mrs. Wall was preceded in death by her husband, Therold Wall on February 12, 1982, her parents, Alfred and Dortha McMelleon Milam, and a brother, Gene Milam.

She is survived by one son, Tommy Wall of De Queen; two daughters and a son-in-law, Judy and Junior Hicks of De Queen and Jan Gann of Texarkana, AR; a sister and brother-in-law, Della “Pud” and Sterling Daniel of De Queen; a brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Donna Milam of Gainesville, Florida; 6 granddaughters, Shelly Wall Roberts, Beth Wall Lummus, Shannon Thomas Roberts and Sarah Seedle, all of Texarkana, Christy Hicks George and Susan Hicks Alspaw, both of De Queen; two grandsons, Shaun Gann of Cincinnati, OH and Kelly Hicks of Roseburg, OR; a special friend, Calvin Hern of De Queen; 5 great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Wall will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, October 3, 2010 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Shane Haarmeyer officiating. Burial will follow in the Millwee Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Saturday, October 2, 2010 at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Morgan McRae scholarship fund at the First State Bank in De Queen.

The family will be at the home of Pud and Sterling Daniel, 603 N. 12th St. in De Queen.

James "Big Red" Kesterson

Mr. James "Big Red" Kesterson, age 68, a resident of Dierks, AR died Tuesday, September 28, 2010 in the Howard Memorial Hospital in Nashville, Arkansas.

He was born July 4, 1942 in Dierks. He was a farmer and a member of the Church of Christ.

Mr. Kesterson was preceded in death by his parents, Burley D. and Bessie Mae Hill Kesterson.

He is survived by one brother, Wayne Kesterson of Dierks; three sisters, Joyce Bennett Ferguson of New Hope, AR, Betty Sue Billings of Centerpoint, AR and Linda Faye Smith of Nashville, AR; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services for Mr. Kesterson will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 29, 2010 in the Old Liberty Hill Cemetery in Dierks with George Crump and James McRae officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in Dierks.

William Carroll Umphrey

Mr. William Carroll Umphrey, age 66, a resident of De Queen, died Friday, September 24, 2010, in the De Queen Medical Center.

He was born to James Carroll and Gladys Lichlyter Umphrey at Mena, Arkansas, on October 24, 1943. He was a retired machinist, and enjoyed horse racing, driving, and sight seeing.

He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen Spurling Umphrey of De Queen, two daughters and a son-in-law, Sally Mandell of De Queen, and Michelle and William Horne of Fayetteville, Ark.; a sister and brother-in-law, Dale and Bob Staton of Red Bluff, Calif., and a granddaughter, Kitana Mandell of De Queen; two brother-in-laws and three sisters-in-law, Donald and Vinia Keeler of Mena, Ark., Javier and Sheila Soria of De Queen, Wanda Bennett of De Queen, nephews, Charles Keeler, Allen Soria, and Wesley Soria, one niece, Frankie Watson.

Cremation for Mr. William Umphrey was entrusted to Chandler Funeral Home of De Queen.

The family has planned a memorial service at Herman Dierks Park on Saturday, October 2, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. A Pot Luck meal will be served.

Janae Joelle Hardwrick

Janae Joelle Hardwrick, 2 month old infant daughter of Arnetha and Leroy Hardwrick, Jr., residents of Foreman, died Wednesday, September 22nd in Texarkana, Texas.

She was born July 16, 2010 at Texarkana, Texas. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Donnell Lewis Johnson, and an uncle, Rev. Stephen Murdock.

She is survived by her parents, Leroy, Jr. and Arnetha Johnson Hardwrick Of Foreman, two sisters, Jasmine Monique Hardwrick, Jade Gabrielle Hardwrick, a brother, Jordan JaVan Hardwrick all of Foreman, her grandparents, Leroy, Sr. and Addie Mae Hardwrick of Foreman, and Debra Ann Johnson of Horatio, four uncles, Andre Johnson of Horatio, Robbie, and his wife, Susan Stephens of Houston, Texas, Phillip Hardwrick, and his wife, Sharon of Conway, Ark.; and Marcus Johnson of Plano, Texas; five aunts, Andrea Fenee’ Murdock of Little Rock, Ark.; Brenda, and her husband, Morris Bradley of Denton, Texas, Nemesha Hardwrick of Foreman, Ashley Hardwrick of North Little Rock, Ark., and Carolyn and her husband, Nicholas Moss of Foreman, and other family members.

Funeral Services for Janae Joelle Hardwrick are entrusted to Chandler Funeral Home of De Queen, and will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 29th in the Mt. Phebia Baptist Church, Horatio, with Rev. Wiley Davis officiating. Burial will Follow in the Piney Grove Cemetery, Foreman, Ark.

The family will receive friends at Chandler Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 28th.

Melvin Aaron Whisenhunt

Melvin Aaron Whisenhunt, age 84, a resident of Winthrop, Arkansas died Saturday, September 25, 2010 in the Christus St. Michael Heath System in Texarkana, Texas.

He was born April 4, 1926 in Little River County, Arkansas. He was a logger, retired employee for the City of Ashdown and a member of the Winthrop Baptist Church.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, William Aaron and Polly Ann Tipton Whisenhunt; 12 brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Nellie Imogene Muncrief Whisenhunt of Winthrop; three daughters and a son-in-law, Diane Bender of Edmond, Oklahoma, Sharon Smith of Texarkana, Texas and Carolyn and Larry Landrum of Foreman, Arkansas; two sons and daughters-in-law, Billy and Barbara Whisenhunt and Don and Faye Whisenhunt all of Winthrop; 18 grandchildren, Michelle and (Michael) Lisenby, Adrienne and (Randy) Schmedthorst, Jeanette and (Nathan) Barlow, Stuart and Geoffrey Smith, Jona and (Chris) Hackner, Jessicca and (Chad) Hutson, Julia and (Zack) Shankles, Jennifer and (Joe) Jones, Cheryl and (Greg) Moreland, LaQuita Kulmaczewski, Lenette and (Neal) Dossett, Kevin Shelton, Keith and (Irena) Shelton, Aaron Whisenhunt, Darrell Reese, Sheila Patterson and Robert Rye; 43 great grandchildren, Matthew, Andrew and Cade Lisenby, Bradley Schmedthorst, Isaac Barlow, Hannah Schmedthorst and Avonleigh Barlow, Sierra Smith, Jesse Hackner, Asher Hutson, Griffin and Boden Shankles, Cole and Brent Jones, Craig, Carey and Courtnie Moreland, Harley Nelson and Tara Moreland, William and Heather Farley, Suzanne and Amberlee Dossett, Kyler, Konner, Kirsten and Kris McWhorter, Jackson, Keeley and Lauren Shelton, Justin Cosner, Randi Knowles, Kari Solomon, James Rye, Savannah and Sierra Patterson, Denver, Ryan, Trent and Madison Reese, Conner and Gracie Whisenhunt, Dillen and Derika Tallant and Kasey and Konner Dinwiddie; 6 great-great grandchildren, Mason Echols, Jada, Hannah and Isabella Nelson, Olivia Knowles and Audrie Stewart and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 28, 2010 in the Winthrop Baptist Church with Audie Dawson and Jimmy Roden officiating. Burial will follow in the Campground Cemetery under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Monday, September 27th at the funeral home.

Ottie Bell Jackson

Ottie Bell Jackson, 66, of Hope, died Wednesday, September 22, 2010, in a Texarkana hospital. She was born December 7, 1943, at Wickes, AR, the daughter of the late William Ellis and Effie Lee Oglesby.

She is survived by her husband, Theral Jackson of Hope, AR; one son, Ricky Wayne Jackson of Eugene, OR; one daughter, Karen Davis of Cottage Grove, OR; one brother, William Henry Higgens of Wickes, AR; one sister, Virgie Lee Lowery of Wickes, AR; two grandchildren; and a host of friends.

Memorial Services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, September 28, at Community of Christ Church in Dierks, under the direction of Latimer Funeral Home, Nashville.

Weldon Burton Smith

Mr. Weldon Burton Smith, age 61, a resident of Granbury, Texas died Wednesday, September 22, 2010at Plaza Medical Center Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas.

He was born April 26, 1949 in Shinewell, Oklahoma. He attended school at Shinewell and Haworth, Oklahoma as well as other schools in Dallas, Texas. He worked for Pizza Hut, Mesquite Forestry Dept. and Trammel Crow Co. Weldon enjoyed hobbies of wood work, making a boat, and furniture. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and art.

Weldon was preceded in death by his parents, Jeff and Ruby McDonald Smith; one son, Wallace Burton Smith; his first wife, Lola Marie Amaya Smith; brothers, Delbert Henderson Smith, Thomas Wesley Smith and Winifred Jeffries Smith; one half-brother, Pascel Ray Cobb; and two sisters, Wannita Marie Smith Boyd and Dorothy Jean Smith.

Weldon leaves to cherish is memory, his wife, Zohreh B. Abaui Smith; two daughters and sons-in-law, Tracy Smith and Butch Chrisman and Stacey Smith and Wayne Swingle, Sr.; one son, Weldon Jason Smith all of Granbury, Texas; 14 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Walter Ray and Joan Smith of Jacksonville, Arkansas, Earl Wilford and Diane Smith of North Glenn, Colorado, Wilburn Cartwright Smith of South Carolina, Wendell W. (Bud) Smith of Goodwater, Oklahoma; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ola Faye Smith and Bobby W. Brown of Cerrogordo, Arkansas, Zelda Smith and Charles (Chuck) Love of Dallas, Texas, Joan Smith and Ali Mirzaie of The Colony, Texas and Ruby Smith Roden of Cerrogordo, Oklahoma; over 100 nieces and nephews and many cousins.

Funeral Services for Mr. Smith will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 25, 2010 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. George Vorhase officiating. Burial will follow in the Pauley Cemetery.

Melissa Gerline Kesterson Simmons

Mrs. Melissa Gerline Kesterson Simmons, age 88, a resident of Dierks, Arkansas died Thursday, September 23, 2010 in the De Queen Medical Center.

She was born July 24, 1922 in Dierks. She was a homemaker and member of the Liberty Hill Church of Christ.

Mrs. Simmons was preceded in death by her parents, Mike Price and Emma Imogene Watson Kesterson; her husband, Johnie Bartley Simmons.

She is survived by two sons, Harold Edwin Simmons and his wife, Wanda of Texarkana, Arkansas and Johnny Ray Simmons and his wife Kathy of Dierks; one daughter, Carolyn Carver and her husband Mike of Lockesburg; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Kim and Todd Carver of Lockesburg, Debbie and Phillip Turner of Ashdown, Teresa Thornton, Terry and Eliza Simmons all of Ashdown, Rhonda and John Woods, Jr. of Dierks, Danny Simmons of Texarkana, Arkansas, Lisa and David Ward of Dierks and Russell Carver of Lockesburg; 15 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Simmons will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 25, 2010 in the Dierks Church of Christ with Gene Jester and Kelly Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the Burg Cemetery under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, September 24th at the funeral home in De Queen.

Michael Lee Harold

Mr. Michael Lee Harold, Sr. age 48, a resident of Gillham died Thursday, July 7, 2011 at his home.

He was born May 20, 1963 in Tucson, Arizona. He was a retired airplane painter and mechanic. Mr. Harold was a U.S. Navy Veteran; he enjoyed fishing and attended the Methodist Church in Gillham.

Mr. Harold was preceded in death by his daughter, Robin Michelle Harold and his grandfather, Jackson Page.

He is survived by his wife Janice Page Harold of Gillham; two sons, Michael Lee Harold, Jr. of Idabel, Oklahoma and Stephen A. Harold of El Paso, Texas; one daughter, Jessica Harold of Gillham; his parents, Jerry and Gerrie Turner Harold of Gillham; one sister, Terrie Harold of Hot Springs, Arkansas; two grandchildren, Eldon Hibbs and Emily Harold both of Gillham; his grandmother, Norma Jean Page of Mena and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins.
