Carrie Dee Krantz

Mrs. Carrie Dee Krantz, age 96, a resident of Dierks, Arkansas died Thursday, May 19, 2011 at the Dierks Health and Rehab.

She was born April 10, 1915 in Umpire to Jasper and Bessie Strasner. She was a homemaker, poultry farmer and a member of the Athens Missionary Baptist Church.

Mrs. Krantz was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 44 years, Henry Emmett Krantz, a grandson, Todd Smith, four brothers, four sisters and a daughter-in-law Nina Krantz.

She is survived by three sons and a daughter-in-law, Doyal Krantz, Bill Krantz and Burl and wife Janie Krantz all of Umpire. She is also survived by three daughters and sons-in-laws, Verna and Ralph Smith, Bobbie and Neal Tipton and Janet and Mack Smith all of Umpire. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews, a special friend, Betty Blue and special granddaughter-in-law, Melody Smith, also the nursing home staff of Dierks Nursing Home.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Krantz will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 21, 2011 in the Athens Missionary Baptist Church with Scott Kitchens and Travis Lane officiating. Burial will follow in the Burg Cemetery under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in Dierks.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, May 20th at the funeral home in Dierks.

Albert Milam Jr.

Albert Milam Jr., age 76 passed away on Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at Idabel. He was born July 11, 1934 in Lockesburg, AR, the son of Albert Milam Sr. and Ruby Bratton Milam.

Jr. was a retired truck driver. He enjoyed fishing and was a lifetime resident of McCurtain County.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Cathy Milam in 2010; and a daughter, Stacie Milam.

Jr. is survived by his daughters, Terri Sue Holderman and Carolyn Ann Tomlinson both of Idabel; 3 grandsons, Cody Holderman of Idabel, Jason Tomlinson of Garvin and Stevie Steel of Broken Bow; step-brother, Ed Willis of Broken Bow; 4 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, May 19, 2010 at the Forest Hill Cemetery in the Forest Grove Community with Rev. Elwayne Schaeffer officiating.

Mary Lou Burch

Mrs. Mary Lou Burch, age 78, a resident of De Queen, died Monday, May 16, 2011 at her home.

She was born October 22, 1932 in Bonham, Texas. She was a homemaker, Baptist and loved animals.

Mrs. Burch was preceded in death by her parents, John and Emma Campbell; her husband, Kenneth Burch, five bothers and one sister.

She is survived by one son, Reese Warden of Lockesburg; one daughter, Mary Ann Lingo of Waycross, Georgia; her former husband, William Edward Warden of Dallas, Texas; three grandchildren, her boyfriend, Glen Overby of De Queen; three special friends, Mary Ann Perez and Sheila Ramirez of De Queen, Johnnie Hoffman of Lockesburg and a number of nieces, nephews and friends.

Graveside Funeral Services for Mrs. Burch will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 20, 2011 in the Arden Cemetery near Ashdown, Arkansas, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday, June 19th at the funeral home.

Jimmy Dale Blankenship

Mr. Jimmy Dale Blankenship, age 64, a resident of Horatio, died Sunday, May 15, 2011, in the De Queen Medical Center.

He was born on May 1, 1947, in De Queen, Arkansas to James “Jim” and Acie Viola Humphrey Blankenship. He was a 1965 graduate of De Queen High School. He was an engineer for the Patriot Rail Corporation, and a Baptist. He was in the National Guard for 6 years, and enjoyed his grandchildren and cars.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife of over 39 years, Dollie White Blankenship of Horatio, Two daughters and sons-in-law, Jennifer and Paul Ernest, and Kimberley and Heath Leonard all of Horatio, six grandchildren, Jakeb Andrew Ernest, Ryne Luke Ernest Samuel Brady Ernest, Benjamin Kale Ernest, Easton James Leonard, and Demi Aleese Leonard all of Horatio, as well as other family members.

Graveside funeral services for Mr. Jimmy Blankenship will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 17th in the Chapel Hill Cemetery with Bro. Wesley Blankenship officiating, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will receive friends at Chandler Funeral Home on Monday, May 16th From 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Odell Hallis Cox

Mr. Odell Hallis Cox, age 82, a resident of De Queen, died Sunday, May 15, 2011 at Brookwood Nursing & Rehab, De Queen.

He was born to Delon Dewey and Lela Mae Armer Cox at De Queen, Arkansas, on May 26, 1928. He was former owner of Cox Brothers Wrecker Service, and was retired from the De Queen School System. He was a member of the Grace Baptist Church, and enjoyed Fishing, being outside, and spending time with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon Blanc Cox of De Queen, a son and daughter-in-law, Clyde and Evonne Cox of De Queen; a daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Kenneth Johnson of Magnolia, Arkansas; three step-sons, Steven Simpson of Denver, Col., Dennis Simpson of Bennett, Col., and Doug Simpson of De Queen; a step-daughter, Debie Roybal of Westminster, Col., a brother, L. D. Cox of De Queen, a sister, Hazel Cornell of Hot Springs, and a number of grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services for Mr. Odell Cox will be held Tuesday, May 17th at 10:00 a.m., in the Chapel Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Timber Ridge Apt. Recreation Center, De Queen, after the service.

Barbara W. Pruitt Costa

Mrs. Barbara W. Pruitt Costa, age 94, a resident of Lockesburg, Ark., died Friday, May 13th In Brookwood Nursing & Rehab Center, De Queen.

She was born to Charles Fleming and Bessie Ann Broach Pruitt in Bowie County, Texas, on May 27, 1916. She was a retired Dorm Mother Supervisor for the Guild For The Blind, Bridgeville, Pennsylvania, as well as a homemaker. She moved to Lockesburg in 1991, where she was a member of the Rock Hill Baptist Church, and enjoyed being outside, gardening, and spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Leonard Pruitt, her husband, Gregory Costa, and a son, Jim Carrell.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Vernon Ray and Linda Jean Carrell of Lockesburg, a daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Paul Evanski of Lockesburg, a sister, Margaret Smith of Hot Springs, Ark., twelve grandchildren, and a number of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 17th at 3:00 P.M. in the Bellville Cemetery with Rev. Rusty Ross officiating, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will receive friends at Chandler Funeral Home on Monday, May 16th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Maxine Davis Cowden Martin
Mrs. Maxine Davis Cowden Martin, age 90, a resident of De Queen, AR died Sunday, May 15, 2011 in the Brookewood Nursing Center.

She was born August 4, 1920 in Horatio, AR. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church of De Queen.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifton and Addie Mae Caplinger Cowden; her husband, Roy Martin; and a brother, Bernard Cowden.

She is survived by one daughter, Barbara Martin of De Queen; one sister, Earlene Donaldson of Katy, TX; a sister-in-law, Thelma Cowden Moore of De Queen; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside Funeral Services for Mrs. Martin will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 16, 2011 in the Millwee Cemetery with Rev. Charles Hebert officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

Ambrost Alexander

Ambrost Alexander, age 82, of Vandervoort, Arkansas, passed away Sunday, May 8, 2011 at his home.

He was born July 27, 1928 in Dierks, Arkansas to the late Louis Alexander and the late Elsie Essie Harris Alexander. He was united in marriage to the late Birta Mae Jewell. He was a timber worker by profession and was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. He will be missed by those who knew him.

He is survived by:

Sons: Mikeal Alexander and wife Rebecca of Oak Grove, Arkansas

Stan Alexander and wife Terry of Grannis, Arkansas

Steve Alexander and wife Carolyn of Pine Ridge, Arkansas

Shelby Alexander and wife Johnna Arlene of Vandervoort, Arkansas

Daughter: Judy Oliver and husband David of Gillham, Arkansas

Sister: Esta Lee Caswell of Vandervoort, Arkansas

9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren

He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Elsie Alexander Barrett, his step-father, Charlie Barrett, a brother, Leroy Alexander, and a granddaughter, Darlene Oliver.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Vandervoort Baptist Church with Brother Donnie Jewell officiating. Interment follows in Witherspoon Cemetery under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.

Visitation will be general.

Pallbearers will be Gerard Alexander, David Alexander, Charlie Alexander, Randy Jewell, Terry Jewell, Justin Loyd

Juana Marquez Lara

Mrs. Juana Marquez Lara, age 67, a resident of De Queen, died Thursday, May 5th in Waterford Plaza Nursing Home, Texarkana, Texas.

She was born to Hilario and Tomasa Garcia Marquez at Harlingen, Texas, on July 12, 1943. She was Catholic, and a homemaker. She enjoyed cooking, flowers, board games, reading, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Felamir Lara.

She is survived by three sons, Eddie Lara, Joe Lara, and Filamir Lara, Jr. all of De Queen, four daughters, Piedad Lara, and Benita Lara both of De Queen, Mary Garcia of Ohio, and Sylvia Maceda of North Carolina, her grandchildren, Eddie M. Lara, Lexi D. Lara, Briana Geierman, Jaylon Geierman, Adriana Alvarez, Cristina Camacho, Myra Zuniga, Brandy Zuniga, Joslyn Zuniga, Janet Lara, Julie Flores, Romina Maceda, Melissa Maceda, Filamir Lara, III, Cindy Lara, Veronica Lara, Ryan Rincon, Hector Garcia, Becky Garcia, and Terry Garcia, and a number of great-grandchildren, as well as brothers and sisters.

Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Juana Lara will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 6, 2011 in Redmen Cemetery under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen.

E. Jean Hicks Young

Mrs. E. Jean Hicks Young born April 24, 1930 to A.C. And Bertha Tanner in Hartford, Arkansas, died May 4, 2011 at her home.

Graduated High School on May 16, 1947 from Waldron, Arkansas, Married Charles D. Hicks on May 31, 1947 in Booneville, Arkansas. Blessed with four children – Nancy, Teresa, Chuck, William Married Bill Young on June 7, 1972 in Ft. Smith, Arkansas, Member of Southwood Baptist Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Worked for Family Shoe Store in DeQueen for many years Member of the Eastern Star, Bookkeeper for Marsh Oil & Gas in Tulsa. Homemaker.

Preceded in death by her parents, A.C. And Bertha Tanner; 4 brothers, Clayton Tanner, Arvol Tanner, Loyd Tanner, and Alton Tanner; her first husband, Charles D. Hicks, Sr.; 2 daughters, Nancy Hooks and Teresa Anderson; and 2 grandsons, Gary Don Hicks and Phillip Hicks. Survived by her husband, Bill Young of the home; 2 sons, Charles D. “Chuck”Hicks, Jr. and his wife Mary Ann of DeQueen, Arkansas, and Bill Hicks, Sr. and his wife Carol of Norman, Oklahoma; Teresa's husband, Cliff Anderson of Tulsa; 5 grandsons and 4 granddaughters; 9 great grandsons and 10 great granddaughters; and many other loving family members and precious friends.

Services will be held Monday, May 9, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Southwood Baptist Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Visitation with family will be from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Sunday, May 8, 2011, at Moore Funeral Home (Southlawn Chapel) in Tulsa.

Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa.
