Lance LaRue Taylor

Mr. Lance LaRue Taylor, age 49, a resident of Mineral Springs, Ark., died Sunday, February 20, 2011, in a Texarkana Hospital.

He was born to Jack Ray and Ruth Maxine Zinn Taylor, at Hollywood, New Mexico, on July 8 1961.

He was employed by Tyson Foods in Broken Bow, Okla., and was a former employee of Mountaire, and Pilgrim’s Pride, with 30 years service. He also worked for Harvey Prince. He was a member of the De Queen Assembly of God Church, and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and doing for others.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

He is survived by his wife of over 30 years, Carolyn Lambert Taylor of Mineral Springs, Ark.; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Jackie and Kristy Taylor of De Queen, Shelby Taylor, and Patrick Taylor, all of De Queen, his father, Jack Taylor of Lockesburg, Ark.; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Kevin and Sherry Stites of Weird, Texas, Darrell and Mary Wallace of Caddo Gap, Arkansas, and Kirby and Susie Wallace of Foreman, Ark.; Seven sisters and brothers-in-law, Mona Lisa and Jack Bearden of Foreman, Ark.; Laura Perkins of Hobbs, New Mexico, Sandy Bostick of Waco, Texas, Tonya and Daniel Kennedy of Okla., LaQuita and Orlando Anawa of Roswell, New Mexico, Elana Gentry of Lockesburg, and Rebecca and B. B. Shugart of Fouke, Ark., two grandchildren, Brittney and Kristen, and 22 nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral Services for Mr. Lance Taylor will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 26th in the Greens Chapel Cemetery with Rev. Duane Alspaw officiating, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen.

The family will receive friends at Chandler Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 24th.

Ralph Allen Keen

Mr. Ralph Allen Keen, age 73, a resident of Horatio, Ark., died Sunday, Feb. 20th at his home.

He was born to Vernon and Macel Wilson Keen at Lake Charles, La., on July 17, 1937. Mr. Keen was an attorney, and served as Deputy Prosecuting Attorney for Sevier, Howard and Little River counties. He was a member of the Dilworth Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and enjoyed fishing, hunting, bush hogging, and spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Carol Ratliff, and in 2009, his wife of over 50 years, Anita Gore Keen.

He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Todd Allen and Tammy Keen of Horatio, a daughter, Karen Denise Connery of Horatio, his eight grandchildren, Kari Elezibeth Leah Walsh, Morgan Kynan Connery, Kendall Marie Carney, Corey Carney, Contessa Leeper, Rocky Caudill, Jason Caudill, and Andy Ewalt, his great-grandchildren, Haylee Leeper, Kimberlee Caudill, Jeremiah Caudill, Mariah Caudill, Brynlee Ewalt, and Sierra Caudill, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Ralph Keen will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 23rd In the Dilworth Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Horatio with Rev. Byron Sullivan Officiating. Burial will follow in the Millwee Cemetery, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will receive friends at Chandler Funeral Home On Tuesday, February 22nd from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Leota Laurette Cooper Shelton

Mrs. Leota Laurette Cooper Shelton, age 89, a resident of Dierks, AR died Saturday, February 19, 2011 in Dierks.

She was born November 14, 1921 in Oklahoma. She was an Avon representative for over 40 years and was a lifetime member of the Holly Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Dierks.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Columbus F. Shelton in 1983; her parents, Elzie Otto and Josephine Logan Cooper; and a brother, Allen Cooper.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, David and Terri Shelton of Dierks; one daughter, Linda Young, also of Dierks; one brother, Chester Cooper of Eunice, LA; five grandchildren, Douglas Young, Pamela Callahan, Timothy Young, Trey Shelton and Ryne Shelton; five great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Shelton will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 21, 2011 in the Holly Creek Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Driggers and Rev. Doyle Clifton officiating. Burial will follow in the Greens Chapel Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in Dierks.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday, February 20, 2011 at the funeral home in Dierks.

James Otis Hankins

Mr. James Otis Hankins, age 56, a resident of Nashville, Arkansas died Sunday, February 13, 2011 in Nashville.

He was born June 24, 1954 in Lepanto, Arkansas. He was a CNA at Brookewood Nursing Center in De Queen, Dierks Nursing Home and other nursing facilities. He loved sports and hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

Mr. Hankins was preceded in death by his mother, Alice Farmer Mullins and one sister, Betty Hankins.

He is survived by two sons, Shane Hankins of Little Rock, Arkansas and Joshua Hankins of Searcy, Arkansas: one daughter, Angela Hankins Rice of Maumelle, Arkansas; a special friend, Argie Wynn of Nashville, Arkansas; seven brothers, John Dexter Hankins, Jr. of Hollywood, California, Gene Fulcher of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Ronnie Young, Donnie Mullins and Tommy Mullins both of Jonesboro, Arkansas, Danny Mullins of Brooklyn, Arkansas and Boyd Riba of Carlisle, Arkansas; six sisters, Patricia Sweeten, Janie Fulcher Davis of Las Vegas, Nevada, Teresa Mullins, Lisa Mullins, Loretta Mullins Lafferty of Rogers, Arkansas and Carolyn Mullins; his foster mother, Sue Riba Carlisle, Arkansas and a host of other family and friends.

Funeral Services for Mr. Hankins will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 18, 2011 in the Holly Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Dierks with Dr. Gene Fulcher officiating. Burial will follow in the Fellowship Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:00 p.m., Friday, at the church.

Leo Jackson Winer

Leo Jackson Winer, age 79, a resident of Dierks, AR died Tuesday, February 15, 2011 in Little Rock, Arkansas.

He was born September 16, 1931 in Millerton, Oklahoma. He worked construction for L. & J. Mechanical, was an avid hunter and fisherman and was affiliated with the Assembly of God.

Mr. Winer was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Mary Kathren Peck Winer; his parents, Willie and Mary Jeter Winer; 5 brothers and 3 sisters.

He is survived by one son, Terry Winer of Y City, Arkansas; two daughters and a son-in-law, Susie Thompson of Lockesburg, AR and Bette and Danny White of Dierks; grandchildren, Jack and Janna Thompson of Dierks, John Thompson of Blair, NE, Jimmy Thompson and Vanessa of Lockesburg, Susie Q. Thompson of Lockesburg, Cristy White of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Nicholas White of Dierks, Brandi Woodard and Jonathan of Y City; great grandchildren, Jessie, Bryce, K'leeh, Dylon, Christopher, Nyssa, Katie, Ashlie, Linnea, Izabelle, Mason, and Cameron; two great-great grandchildren; two brothers and one sister-in-law, George Winer and Rose of Lockesburg and Willie Winer of Myrtle Creek, Oregon; two sisters-in-law, Rosie Maynard of Valliant, Oklahoma and Retia Williams of Grand Junction, Colorado; three cats, Precious, Snowball and Rusty and dear friend, Vera Mae Young.

Graveside Funeral Services for Mr. Winer will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 18, 2011 in the Horatio Cemetery with Danny White officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in Dierks.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday, February 17th at the funeral home in Dierks.

Valentine Barron

Valentine Barron, infant son of Thomas Abundes and Edna Barron of De Queen, Arkansas, passed away Monday, February 14, 2011 in Mena.

He is survived by:

Parents: Thomas Abundes and Edna Barron of De Queen, Arkansas

Sister: Crystal Perez of De Queen, Arkansas

Brother: Brandon Lee Perez of De Queen, Arkansas

Aunt and Uncle: Maria and Jose Hernandez of De Queen, Arkansas

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Nora Barron and his maternal grandfather, Nicholas Abila.

Valentine was sent for cremation under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. No services have been scheduled at this time.

Billy Garner Coulter

Mr. Billy Garner Coulter, age 86, a lifelong resident of Lockesburg, Arkansas died Sunday, February 13, 2011 in the St. Michael Health System in Texarkana, Texas.

He was born October 20, 1924 in Lockesburg. He grew up on the Coulter Farm three miles east of Lockesburg with his family and cousins. He was a past board member of the Soil Conservation Service and Lockesburg Schools, and member of the Lockesburg United Methodist Church. He was the fourth generation farmer-rancher on the land that has been in the family’s ownership since the 1840’s.

Mr. Coulter was preceded in death by his parents, Rufus and Violet Garner Coulter; his wife of 54 years, Mary Dale Glasgow Coulter and his sister, Mary Irene Duncan.

He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn Ann and Dan Clemans of Sherwood, Arkansas; two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Donna Coulter and Joe Burton and Katie Coulter all of Lockesburg; one brother and sister-in-law, Burton and Bennie Coulter of Lockesburg; four grandchildren and their spouses, Stacie and Ted Kitchens, Leslie and Jacky Simmons, Caleb and Morgan Coulter and Sarah Coulter; four great- grandchildren, Olivia and Lexia Kitchens and Coulter and Harrison Simmons; sister-in-law, Jean Bonar Glasgow; several nieces and nephews and good friends, Benton Gilliam and Joe Ed Harris.

Funeral Services for Mr. Coulter will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 16, 2011 in the Lockesburg United Methodist Church with Terry Chapman officiating. Burial will follow in the Coulter Memorial Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 15th at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Lockesburg Cemetery Association, c/o John Coulter, 160 Coulter Lane, Lockesburg, AR 71846.
