Kevin Lewis Ross

Mr. Kevin Lewis Ross, age 35, a resident of De Queen, Arkansas, died Sunday, January 30th at his home.

He was born to Franky Lewis and Cheryl Jeannie Morris Ross at Dallas, Texas, on January 21, 1976. He was a handyman, and a member of Faith and Deliverance Church. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and playing jokes from time to time.

He is survived by his father and step-mother, Franky L. and Georgia Ross of De Queen, one brother, Clifford Shane Ross of Knoxville, Tenn., two sisters and brothers-in-law, Carrie Michelle and Chris Rightmire of De Queen, and Donna and Paul Welch of Fort Smith, Ark.; and a number of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Cremation was under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, Feb. 4th at the Faith & Deliverance Center, De Queen with Rev. Patrick Grant officiating.

Brad Alvin Parrish

Brad Alvin Parrish, age 17, a resident of De Queen, died Sunday, January 30th at his home.

He was born to Ronnie and Twylla Bivins Parrish at De Queen, Arkansas, on September 7, 1993, at De Queen, Arkansas. He enjoyed listening to music, thunder and rain, and spending time with his family.

Besides his parents, Brad is survived by three sisters, Jessica, Amy, and Amanda, his grandmother, Mrs. Ruby Bivins of De Queen, four nephews, two nieces, and a number of aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Graveside funeral services for Brad Parrish will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 2nd in the County Line Cemetery, near Nashville, Ark. The family will receive friends at Chandler Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 1st. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Arkansas Children’s Hospital, 800 Marshall St., Little Rock, Ark. 72201.

Doris Marie Bush Whisenhunt

Doris Marie Bush Whisenhunt, age 69, a resident of Foreman, AR died Friday, January 28, 2011 in Christus St. Michaels in Texarkana, TX.

She was born October 30, 1941 in Winthrop, AR. She was a homemaker and a member of the Foreman Methodist Church.

Mrs. Whisenhunt was preceded in death by her parents; Hubert Lee and Dorcus Marie Garrett Bush; one sister, Cathy Lee Bush; five sons, Billy Davis, Harold Davis, Ray Davis, Sammy Davis and Doyle Whisenhunt, Jr.

She is survived by her husband, Doyle Whisenhunt; two daughters, Christine Davis of Jonesborough, TN and Penny Gardner of Foreman; five sons, Chuck Davis and Dave Davis both of Foreman, Danny Whisenhunt of Sacramento, CA, Michael Whisenhunt of Crossroads, AR and Mitch Whisenhunt of New Braunfels, TX; sister, Bettie Louise Eastridge of Dover, AR; fourteen grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Whisenhunt will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, January 31, 2011 in the Foreman Methodist Church with Daryl Hines officiating. Burial will follow in the Marvin Cemetery near Foreman under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home of De Queen.

Viewing will be from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the church on Monday.

Rex Garvin Kirby

Mr. Rex Garvin Kirby, age 80, a resident of Dierks, Arkansas died Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at his home.

He was born July 10, 1930 in Burg, Arkansas. He was a retired truck driver, a farmer and rancher; served as an M. P. in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Dierks Church of Christ.

Mr. Kirby was preceded in death by his parents, William Taylor and Gladys Kesterson Kirby, and one brother, Raymond Kirby.

He is survived by his wife, Doris James Kirby; one son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Brenda Kirby all of Dierks; two daughters and sons-in-law, Patti and Eddie Halter of Horatio and Sheri and Paul Faulkner of Dierks; two step-sons, Quinn Osborn and his wife Annette and David Osborn all of Dierks; one step-daughter, Lisa Stapp and husband Randy of Dierks; one sister, Bonnie Whitmore of Springdale, Arkansas; 4 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren and 2 step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services for Mr. Kirby will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 28, 2011 in the Dierks Church of Christ. Burial will follow in the Burg Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in Dierks.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday, January 27th at the funeral home in Dierks.

Imogene Nunn Cannon

Mrs. Imogene Nunn Cannon, age 80, a resident of De Queen, died Sunday, January 23rd at her home.

She was born to Waldo B. “Jelly” and Alma Leslie Conner Nunn at Electra, Texas, on May 30, 1930. She was a member of the Church of Christ and a homemaker. She enjoyed writing poetry, and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her long time husband, Sidney E. Cannon of De Queen, two sons and a daughter-in-law, Sidney L. Cannon of Bedford, Texas, Mike and Debbie Cannon of The Colony, Texas, six grandchildren, David Michael and Russell Wayne Cannon both of Bedford, Texas, Michal Baggs of Frisco, Texas, Jeff Cannon of McKinney, Texas; Gregg Cannon of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Sarah Cannon of Carrollton, Texas, five great-grandchildren, one sister, Frances Sanner of Alvarado, Texas, three step sisters, Ethel Waldon and Bernice Dolph both of De Queen, Ark., and Katherine Gentry of Wickes, Ark. and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Imogene Cannon will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 26th in the Redmen Cemetery with Van Ledbetter, Minister officiating, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. Minnie Shirley Vera Bird Morris

Mrs. Minnie Shirley Vera Bird Morris, age 85, a resident of Gillham, Arkansas, died Tuesday, January 18, 2011, in the De Queen Medical Center.

She was born to Walter E. and Mary Elizabeth Ward Bird in Pushmataha County, Oklahoma, on May 3, 1925. She was a homemaker, and a rancher. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gillham, and enjoyed cooking, gardening, canning, flowers, and spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband of over 56 years, Buck Morris, two sons, Johnny Morris, and Harvey Morris, a grandson, Brian Morris, and her siblings, Harvey Bird, Winnie Barnes, Georgia Vann, Blanche House, and Pauline “Boots” Watkins.

She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, David and Donna Morris of Gillham, Marvin and Tina Morris of Okla City, Okla., and Scottie and Shelly Morris of Gillham, two daughters and a son-in-law, Sandra and Dale Oglesby and Katherine Saddler all of Gillham; a sister and brother-in-law, Grace and Dolen Roberts of Grants Pass, Oregon, twelve grandchildren, Jamie, Jeffery, Shawn, Shannon, Andrea, Joey, Jimmy, Brent, Miranda, Jason, Kensey, and Kyler, twenty great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Minnie Morris will be held Friday, January 21st at 2:00 p.m., in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel, De Queen, with burial in the Overturf Cemetery, Gillham. AR. The family will receive friends at Chandler Funeral Home on Thursday, January 20th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Louise Roberts Mulkey

Elizabeth Louise Roberts Mulkey, age 52, a resident of South Pittsburg, TN (formerly of De Queen, AR) died January 17, 2011 in ErLanger Medical Center after a brief battle with cancer

Louise was born to John Calvin Roberts and Mable Faye Hendricks Roberts.

She was preceded in death by her father; two brothers, Steven Eugene Roberts and Wayne Roberts.

She is survived by her mother; two daughters: Stephenie Carroll Massingill of Lockesburg, AR and Carrie Lynn Mattox of South Pittsburg, TN; one son: Michael Wayne Mulkey of South Pittsburg, TN; two sisters: Ruth Ann Little of De Queen, AR and Bonnie Guin of Shreveport, LA; two brothers: Alvin Roberts of De Queen, AR and Ricky Carl Gentry of Lorton, VA; one granddaughter, four grandsons and a number of nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at Rose Hill Baptist Church, Saturday, January 22, 2011 at 12:00 pm followed by a private burial at Mt. Ida Cemetery.

Martha Jean Johnson Bone

Martha Bone of Ashdown AR. Went home to be with the Lord on Saturday January 8, 2011 in Bakersfield CA.

She was born on April 28, 1940 in Huston TX.

She was preceded in death by her parents Ebbin White Johnson and Willie Lou Bishop Johnson, six brothers, three sisters and a daughter Tonya.

Survivors include her husband Albert Kenneth Bone of Ashdown AR. Three sons and their spouses, David and Vanessa of Keene CA., Daniel and Lori of Bakersfield CA., and Samuel and Ruby of Ashdown AR. One brother Larry Johnson of Lockesburg AR., three sisters Peairlee Hall of Bells TX. Reba Young of Nashville AR. And Wilma Harget of Mojave CA. five granddaughters, three grandsons, five step-grandsons, five great-granddaughters, many other family and friends who will miss her very much.

Martha attended college to ultimately earn a nursing degree while she worked full time and raised a family. After earning RN credential, she worked alternately as a psychiatric nurse and as a home health care nurse.

Memorial services will be held at the Nazarene Church in Ashdown AR. January 22, at 2:P.M. With Bro. Terry Mills and Bro. Bob Young officiating

Laura Anne Cohrs Brand

Ms. Laura Anne Brand, age 60, a resident of DeQueen, passed away Sunday, January 16, 2011 at her home.

She was born to Arthur and Anne Salyers Cohrs in Harvey, Illinois on Mach 12, 1950 and grew up in Chicago Heights, Illinois on the family farm. A teacher of chemistry and art at Cossatot Community College, she received her Bachelor’s in Chemistry from Prairie State University and her Master’s in Chemistry and Business Administration at Governor’s State University.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and one older brother, Arthur Cohrs, Jr.

She is survived by two children, Aaron Isaac Brand of Texarkana, Arkansas, and Anna Livia Brand, of New Orleans, Louisiana; future son-in-law Paul Maddock, of New Orleans, Louisiana; and two brothers and their families, Donald Cohrs of Cordova, Illinois, his wife Jo Cohrs, and their children Jason, Chris, Jennifer, Troy, and Elizabeth, and Richard Cohrs of Springfield, Virginia, his wife, Bonnie Cohrs, and their children, Brian and Geoffrey. She is also survived by countless friends and colleagues, including her oldest and dearest friends Therese Talmont, of Springfield, Illinois and Melinda Butler of Phoenix, Arizona, and many dear friends in DeQueen and Texarkana.

Laura had a curious mind and an unquenchable appetite for learning. Although sculpting in wood, stone, and clay was her first love in art, she also taught herself to paint, draw and do pottery and, when she passed, was teaching herself wood burning. She was an avid reader and also enjoyed cooking. Her love for creating art was only matched by her love for her farm and her many animals, including a current animal family of five dogs, four donkeys, one pony, two sheep, two goats, and an endless parade of cats. Her farm, Aravir Farm, was a bounty of flowers, trees and a garden that she planted and cultivated over the years. Her children recall her as dynamic, deeply inspiring, loving, stubborn, giving, and the most amazing mom they could have hoped for.

A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at Cossatot Community College, in the AGRI LAB Building on Saturday, January 29, from 1 PM to 5 PM. A formal service with readings and speakers will be held at 2 PM during this time. The family requests that donations be made to an educational fund that is being set up in her name at Cossatot. David Alarcon

Mr. David Alarcon, age 27, a resident of Wickes, Arkansas, died Saturday, January 15th From injuries received in an automobile accident in Howard County, Arkansas.

He was born to Cirilo Alarcon and Beda Barrera on April 3, 1983 at Tetecala, Morelos, Mexico. He was an employee of Insulation Works at Wickes, and was a member of the Catholic Church. He enjoyed soccer, football, and spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by parents, Beda Barrera and Cirilo Alarcon of Mexico, three brothers and sisters-in-law, Daniel and Araceli Alarcon, Manuel and Karina Alarcon all of Wickes, Ark., and Juan Alarcon of Mexico, Five sisters and brothers-in-law, Eva Alarcon and Octavio Pena, Maribel Alarcon and Juan Campusano, and Josefina Alarcon and Celerino Delgado all of Wickes, and Efigenia Alarcon and Nicolas Delgado all of Wickes, Ark.; Irene Alarcon & Juan Diaz of Mexico.

Funeral Services for Mr. David Alarcon will be held at 4:00 P.M., Tuesday, January18th in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Mexico.
