Robert L. Youngblood

Mr. Robert L. Youngblood, age 89, a resident of Watson, OK died Sunday, September 04, 2011 at his home.

He was born November 13, 1921 in Gillham, AR. He was a farmer and rancher and a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church in Cove, AR. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Mr. Youngblood was preceded in death by his parents, William and Lily Rasmon Youngblood; four brothers and four sisters.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mildred Lorene Mickle Youngblood of Watson, OK; a daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Mark Smith of Smithville, OK; three sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Brenda Youngblood and Terry and Roberta Youngblood, all of Watson, OK and Gary and Debbie Youngblood of Bristow, OK; two sisters, Alice Parks of Houston, TX and Marjorie Carpenter of De Queen, AR; ten grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Youngblood will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 6, 2011 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with John Gilbert and Orval Heath officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Cove, AR.

Visitation will be general.

Tommy Eual "Moose" Roberts

Mr. Tommy Eual "Moose" Roberts, age 67, a resident of Horatio, Arkansas, died Wednesday, November 2, 2011 in the Christus St. Michael Health System in Texarkana, Texas.

He was born December 5, 1943 in Goose Creek, Texas. He was retired from Domtar and was a member of the Church of Christ.

Mr. Roberts was preceded in death by his mother, Rosemary Gore Roberts; his wife, Alice Yvonne Roberts; and his step-mother, Farris Bernice James Roberts.

He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Tiger and Jennifer Roberts of Angleton, Texas; one daughter and son-in-law, Mondie and Troy Allen of Horatio, Arkansas; his father, Eldo Roberts also of Horatio; one brother and sister-in-law, Jerry Don and Anita Roberts of De Queen, Arkansas and four grandchildren, Bradyn Allen, Payton Allen, Cameron Oler and Caden Roberts.

Graveside Funeral Services for Mr. Roberts will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 5, 2011 in the Millwee Cemetery with Cy Davis officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, November 4th at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Horatio High School Baseball for a special field project, 205 Isbell Street, Horatio, AR 71842

Imogene “Aunt Jean” Wilson

Imogene “Aunt Jean” Wilson of Berwyn PA, 85, passed away on September 26, 2011. Born in Bennington, Oklahoma, September 25, 1926, Jean spent most of her life in Oklahoma, Texas and Arkansas. In 1999, she came to Berwyn to live with her niece, Patricia (Pat) Arrington.

She remained in touch with her loving family and friends in DeQueen, Arkansas where she had been active in the Hospital Auxiliary, as a teacher’s aide at DeQueen Elementary School, and the Memorial Baptist Church where she loved and cared for the children in the nursery. She continued to share her ministry of Christ’s care and love at Paoli Presbyterian Church where she was known to everyone as Aunt Jean. She also served on several of the Paoli Church Ministry Teams.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Elmer Lee Wilson in 1985.

She is survived by her niece and care giver, Patricia (Pat) Arrington of Berwyn, Penn. as well as other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her husband’s family, three sisters-in-law and their husbands, Sue Wilson, Lorene and Loy Poag all of De Queen, and Corine and Dalie Hooker of Sheridan, Arkansas.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, November 4, 2011 in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Rusty Ross officiating. In lieu of flowers, she requested donations be made to Paoli Presbyterian Church (Children’s Ministries), 225 South Valley Road, Paoli, PA 19301.

Norma Rae Abshier Smith

Norma Rae was born and raised until the age of 13 in Kansas City, MO where she attended Horace Mann Elementary School. She felt that she had a wonderful life with family and friends and enjoyed sports, especially skating, snow-sledding and riding her bicycle, etc. This is also where she received her religious background and her love of the Lord and His followers.

She spent the first semester of her junior high year in Bloomburg, TX with her favorite cousin, Sissy (Burris) Willis, with whom she had spent many truly enjoyable days all of her life especially riding trains between Kansas City, MO and Winthrop, AR during their early years.

The rest of her junior high and senior high years were spent in Horatio where she continued her love of sports, especially bicycling, skating and basketball. While there she added for her enjoyment – cheerleading. While working in her parent’s café she met many new friends including her future husband, Frederick. She married him and moved to Crossroads Community where she spent sixty-two years on their farm raising cattle, attending and teaching school, etc.

During those sixty-two years she helped on the farm, traveled with Frederick for his two year stint in the Army, with most of the time being spent in Lawton, OK where she found that the only job for which she qualified was in a department store. Thus she decided that she needed more education and as soon as they returned to the Crossroads, she attended Texarkana College where she received her Associate’s Degree followed by her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from Henderson University with post graduate work from Southeastern University in Durant, Ok and the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. Having a degree in elementary and secondary education, she began her career teaching first grade and then second-grade followed by twenty-eight years in the fields of High School English, Speech and Art. She never quit loving teaching and those that she taught.

She was a Charter Member of The First Southern Baptist Church of Crossroads where she served as the Church Clerk and taught the Martha (ladies) Sunday School Class. She was member of the Gideon Auxiliary, Phi Delta Kappa, Kappa Delta Pi, CTA, AEA, NEA, Order of the Eastern Star, and served on the boards of the Southwest Teachers Association, the Little River County Public Library Board, and was also appointed by President Bill Clinton to the board of Cossatot Community College of the University of Arkansas in DeQueen where she served as Trustee for seven years.

Her retirement years were spent traveling, enjoying family and friends, attending church and church functions and finally just being AT HOME.

Funeral services for Mrs. Smith will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 31, 2011 in the First Southern Baptist Church of Crossroads with Gary Steiner and Jimmy Roden officiating. Burial will follow in the Campground Cemetery under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home, De Queen.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, October 30, 2011 at the funeral home

Esther Lorene Hohmann Presson

Esther Lorene Hohmann Presson, age 88, a resident of De Queen, died Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at a Texarkana hospital.

She was born in De Queen, Arkansas, on August 4, 1923, to Henry and Martha Hohmann. She was one of seven children. She graduated from De Queen High School in 1941. She was a homemaker, a member of the Baptist Church and she enjoyed cooking, sewing, making quilts, fishing and spending time with her family.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Lowen G. Presson; three sisters, Edith Treadaway, Georgia Flournoy, and Mildred Gohres; and a grandson, Scottie Presson.

She is survived by three children; James Lowen "Jim" Presson and his wife, Brenda, of De Queen; Delores Lorene Juszczak and her husband, Roger, of Phoenix, AZ; and David Eugene Presson of Eagletown, OK; four grandchildren, Jennifer Lynn Collier and husband, Joe, of De Queen; Nicholas Henry Juszczak, and Katrina Marie Juszczak both of Phoenix, AZ; and Joshua David Presson of Eagletown, OK; one step-granddaughter, Jennifer Marie Fantra of De Queen, AR; and one great-grandson, Ty Logan Collier, of De Queen; two brothers, Robert "Bob" Hohmann, of Sante Fe, NM; and Charles Hohmann, of Fort Smith, AR; and one sister, Linda Hughes, of Horatio, AR; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Esther Presson will be held at 10:00am, Saturday, October 29, 2011 in the Redmen Cemetery with Carl Miller officiating. Burial will be under Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen, AR.

Visitation will be 6:00-8:00pm on Friday, October 28, at Wilkerson Funeral Home.

Shirley Jean Paul

Shirley Jean Paul, age 65, a resident of De Queen, died Monday, October 24, 2011 in Texarkana, Texas.

She was born September 27, 1946 in Hensley, Arkansas. She was a member of the Gillham Methodist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher, led music, and often played her guitar and sang. She loved her Lord and fellow man. She loved her family and cared for many abandoned and abused animals. She loved birds and flowers that flourished at her touch. Her favorite hobby was playing her guitar and singing with friends at gospel music events. She attended the Solid Rock Full Gospel Church in Horatio and the First United Methodist Church in De Queen.

She was preceded in death by her father, Carlee Sappington; her mother, Mary Vandergrifft Harlan; one brother, Lonnie Sappington; and two husbands, Winston Robertson and Allyn Paul.

She is survived by three children, Terry Robertson and Tammy Mercer both of Griffith, Indiana, and Aaron Mowry of Horatio, Arkansas; two sisters, Mary Lafranca of Tulare, California, Robin Manlove of Cove, Arkansas; two brothers, Pat Sappington of Clovis, California and Fred Sappington of Grannis, Arkansas; two step-sisters, Sondra Jones and Patricia Harlan both of Tulare, California; four grandchildren, Joshua and Matthew Mercer of Griffith, Indiana and Luke and Sarah Mowry of De Queen, Arkansas; also a special friend, Don Norris of De Queen, Arkansas along with a number of nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 28, 2011, in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Williams officiating.

The family will receive friends from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., Friday Oct 28th.

Nina Billingsley Stoker

Nina Billingsley Stoker, age 78, of Ashdown, Arkansas died at a local hospital with her children by her side on October 24, 2011.

Mrs. Stoker was born December 25, 1932 at Billingsley’s Corner, Arkansas. She was a member of the Grace Baptist Church in Ashdown.

Nina was preceded in death by her mother and father, Ruth Pauley Marston and Winchell Billingsley; and her brothers, Jim and Charles “Buck” Billingsley.

Survivors include one son, Dick Stoker of Ashdown; one daughter and son-in-law, Patti and Dan Ritter of Hugo, Oklahoma, and ten nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Friday, October 28, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Central Baptist Church Family Life Center.

De Wayne Curtis

Mr. De Wayne Curtis, age 55, a resident of De Queen, AR died Monday, October 24, 2011 in De Queen.

He was born April 3, 1956 in Dade City, Florida. He was a manager for a radiator shop in Jacksonville, Florida. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a Christian.

Mr. Curtis was preceded in death by his father, Patrick Donald Curtis.

He is survived by his mother, Barbara Curtis of De Queen; his daughter, Krystal De Curtis of Florida; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, James and Barbara L. Curtis, Donald and Dana Curtis and Mark Alan Curtis all of De Queen; several nieces, nephews and grandchildren, and a host of friends.

A Memorial service for Mr. Curtis will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, November 6, 2011 in the Gillham Cemetery with Chaplin David Smith officiating.

Alise Baber Slaton

Alise Baber Slaton, 89, a resident of Lockesburg, Arkansas, Milford Community, died Sunday, October 23, 2011, at her home of 65 years.

She was born July 20, 1922, in Lockesburg to Sim and Rena Butler Baber. She was a retired truck patch farmer and poultry and cattle farmer for over 58 years alongside her husband, Charlie Ray Slaton.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, her parents, brothers, Thomas and Edward Baber, sisters, Christine Hamilton and Mary Ellen Baber.

Ms. Slaton is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Sharron Slaton and Dudley and Vivian Slaton; one daughter, Frankie Jean Slaton, all of Lockesburg; six grandchildren, Sherry Lynn Myrick, Kay Malette Chandler, Lisa Coulter, Dudley Ray Slaton, Carlee Carver, Carrie Slaton Burner; 9 great grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Ms. Slaton will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 26, 2011 in Milford Union Church with Bro. Leon Conatser officiating. Burial will follow in the Wrights Chapel Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 25th at the funeral home.

The family will be at 1136 Hwy 317 in Lockesburg.

Marion Harrell Sherwood

Mr. Marion Harrell Sherwood, age 72, a resident of Wickes, Arkansas, died Thursday, October 20th at his home.

He was born to Charlie and Bessie Armstrong Sherwood on May 16, 1939, at Vandervoort, Arkansas. He was a retired truck driver, and enjoyed hunting, and spending time with his friends and family. He was preceded in death by parents, a sister, seven brothers, and a son, Charles Dale Sherwood.

He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Harrell and Lisa Sherwood of De Queen, Arkansas, Michael and Carla Sherwood of Idabel, Oklahoma, and Jeff Sherwood of Sulphur Springs, Texas, a daughter, and son-in-law, Debbie and James Travis of Heavener, Oklahoma seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside Funeral Services for Mr. Marion Sherwood will be held at 3:00 P.M., Saturday, October 22nd in the Daniel Cemetery, with Bro. Travis Lane officiating. The family will receive friends at Chandler Funeral Home on Saturday, October the 22nd from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M.

Karl Kenneth Edmondson

Mr. Karl Kenneth Edmondson, age 73, of Clarksville, Arkansas Died Thursday, October 20, 2011 at his home. He was born to Clyde Francis and Lillian Ann Bell Edmondson on July 24, 1938 in Kremmling, Colorado. He was a bus driver, heavy equipment operator and retired Tyson Foods mechanic.

Mr. Edmondson was preceded in death by his parents:, 2 brothers: Francis Wallace Edmondson and Joseph Benjamin Edmondson; 2 sisters: Stella Marre Wheatley and Helen Irene Edmondson; and a granddaughter: Casey Darlene Price.

He is survived by two daughters: Christian Darlene Price of Gillham and Sherry Lee Wommack of Clarksville, Arkansas; 3 sons: Kenneth Karl Edmondson of Choctaw, OK, Kelvin Carl Edmonson of Kremmling, CO and Charles Clyde Edmondson of Crestview, FL; 1 brother: George Ernest Edmondson of Brady, Texas; 24 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be: Justin Price, Zachery Edmondson, Seth Edmondson, Benjamin Edmondson, Shawn Wommack, and Cody Wommack. Honorary Pallbearers are: Brady Prokop, Sean Prokop, Blake Prokop, Henry Vega, Leslie Wommack, and Micheal Edmondson.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am Monday, October 24th in the Roller-Cox Funeral Home Chapel, 701 Rogers Street in Clarksville, Arkansas with Pastor Glen Newton and Pastor Ron Newton officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Airy Cemetery in Clarksville under the direction of the Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
