Gabriel Cade Wilson

Gabriel Cade Wilson, age 10, a resident of Horatio, Arkansas passed from this life on Thursday, November 24, 2011 in the Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas

He was born September 27, 2001in De Queen, Arkansas. He was a 4th grader at Horatio Elementary School and a member of the St. Barbara Catholic Church. He enjoyed playing baseball and football. He was a Choctaw Grass Dancer and a member of the Choctaw Nation.

He is survived by his parents, Kenny DaShane and Norma Leticia. Gonzalez Wilson; two brothers, Dakotah DaShane Wilson of Ashdown, AR and Ayden Cain Wilson of Horatio; his grandparents, Clifford Ray Wilson and Janet Karen Wilson of Broken Bow, OK and Pedro Gonzalez and Teresa Gonzalez of Horatio; aunts and uncles, Eva Gonzalez, Luis A. Trevino, Emma Gonzalez, Benjamin de la Rosa, Norbel Gonzalez, Ana Gaeta, Luis A. Gonzalez, Pedro I. Gonzalez, Roberto Martinez, Amalia Rivas, Elvira Vertiz, Alejandrina Martinez, and Clifford Ray Wilson, Jr.; and cousins, Jared de la Rosa, Salim de la Rosa and Maria Trevino.

A Vigil will be held at 7:00 p.m., Friday, November 25, 2011 in the St. Barbara’s Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be held at 9:00 a.m., Saturday, November 26, 2011 at the church with Father Eddy D'Almeida and Bro. Jay Mule officiating. Burial will follow in the Horatio Cemetery under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

Kenneth Ray "Whimpy" Samuels

Kenneth Ray "Whimpy" Samuels, 45, of Texarkana, AR died Friday, November 25, 2011, in a local hospital. He was born May 30, 1966, in De Queen, AR, and was a former greens keeper at South Haven Golf Course. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Selma Samuels.

He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Leslie and Josh McBride; four brothers and a sister-in-law, Charlie Samuels, Jimmy and Becky Samuels, Benny Samuels, and David Kelley; one sister, Marie Samuels Whitley and her husband, Bob; one granddaughter, Piper McBride; a special friend, Mandy Samuels; and a number of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Graveside services will be held at 11 A.M. Monday, November 28, 2011, at Rondo Cemetery. Burial will be under the direction of Texarkana Funeral Home, Texas.

The family will be at 6945 Mandeville Rd., Texarkana, AR 71854.

Betty Ruth Smith

Betty Ruth Smith, age 80, of Wickes, died Sunday, November 20, 2011 at her home. She was born on Monday, June 29, 1931 to William Walter and Mary Etta Adams Griffith in Henrietta, Texas.

Betty was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved spending time with her family and loved living life to the fullest. Betty was in law enforcement for 25 years as a Deputy Sheriff and Dispatch in Sevier County and Little River County. She was very proud of this accomplishment. Betty enjoyed the great outdoors and going fishing.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband Sam Sellers Jr.; her second husband Walter (Dude) Cox; her third husband Robert (Bob) Smith; one son Samuel Paul Sellers Sr.; one grandson Samuel Weston Green; eleven brothers and sisters.

Survivors include three daughters, Pam Robbins and husband, Rodger of Grannis, Penny Kesterson and husband Basil of Wickes and Barbara Manshack of Wickes; nine grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

A private graveside services will be held Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at the Mountain Springs Resting Place, west of Grannis. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 22, 2011 from 6-8 P.M. at the Bowser Family Funeral Home Chapel in Mena.

Pallbearers will be Basil Kesterson, Paul Sellers, Brandon Courtney, Blake Reel, Austin Miller and Dood Baker.

Iris Jean Brewer

Iris Jean Brewer, 84, of Rogers, passed away on Tuesday, August 23, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center in Rogers. A native and lifelong resident of Rogers, she was born on March 21, 1927.

She was a 1945 graduate of Rogers High School and worked as a telephone operator prior to her marriage to Loy Brewer on June 24, 1950.

She was a member of First Christian Church of Rogers and sang in the church choir for most of her adult life. Active in Democratic politics, she was an avid supporter of the Nature Conservancy.

Survivors include her children, Teresa Mallatte and husband, Allen, of De Queen, Jim Brewer and wife Susan, of Monticello, John Brewer and wife, Kellie, of Rogers, grandchildren, Kirk Mallette and wife, Natasha, of Bozeman, Mont., Lance Mallette and wife, Jenn, of Fayetteville, Doug Brewer and wife, Brittany, of Fayetteville, Lauren Brewer of Fayetteville; and one great-granddaughter, Navah Mallette of Bozeman, Mont.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Loy Brewer, her parents, Samuel and Carrie Elizabeth (Bush) Adams; sisters, Maurine Clark and Ruby Russell; and a brother, Warren Adams.

A service to celebrate her life was held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday August 27th at First Christian Church, 13th and Oak Streets in Rogers, officiated by the Rev. Shawn Wallace.

Lyle Dean Unruh

Mr. Lyle Dean Unruh, age 51, a resident of De Queen, died Friday, November 18, 2011 at his home. He was born to Melvin and Lillian Unruh at Ft. Cobb, Oklahoma on January 27, 1960. He is survived by his parents, Melvin and Lillian Unruh of Enid, OK, a special father and mother-in-law, David and Lorene Krudwig of De Queen, three sisters and their husbands, Sonja and Kevin Eck, Connie and Michael Estes, and Andrea and Norman Kent all of Enid, Okla, as well as two other brothers-in-law, David Krudwig, and his wife, Mary of Spokane, Wash, and Samuel P. Smith of Mobile, AL. He had four nephews, Andy, Heath, Hunter and Trapper. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Tommi Denise Krudwig Unruh and two sons, Cody and Nick Unruh.

Lyle served as an active member of the United States Air Force from September 1978 until 1986, and then served his country by working actively for the next 22 years as an Air Force Reserve Jet Maintenance Technician with the 507th Air Reserve Wing/MFS at Tinker AFB, OK. He achieved the rank of Master Sergeant and received the honor and respect of many in his field. MGST Unruh was deployed several times both stateside and overseas during Operation Desert Storm, Desert Shield, and Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. Among his many awards and honors, he was bestowed the Air Force Meritorious Unit Award. Master Sergeant Unruh was honorably retired from the United States Air Force Reserve on October 1, 2011.

He was a strong, dependable man and a loving husband and father to his family. He has left many behind who love him without reservation and will miss him every day. Lyle had special place in his heart for children who had to fight against the disease called cancer. He made it his mission to help in any way that he could to support these kids. One of his final requests was that instead of flowers for him, he wanted donations for the children who are left to fight cancer.

Funeral Services for Mr. Lyle Unruh will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, November 20th in Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Toney Stowers and Van Ledbetter, Ministers officiating. Burial will follow in the Crosstrails Cemetery, De Queen. The family will receive friends at Chandler Funeral Home on Saturday, November 19th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Matthew J. Huffines

Matthew J. Huffines was born in Alton, Illinois on October 17, 1981 and lived in Carrollton, Illinois until moving to Broken Bow in July of 1983.

He went to meet the Lord on November 16, 2011 at 30 years of age.

He loved being a carpenter and felt the peace of God on top of a roof with hammer in hand.

He loved his friends and would do anything for them, anytime, night or day. He loved his family above and beyond, but his greatest love in life was his boys. It amazed him of the depths of love he felt about his children. Matt was always to be found outside. He was a pure country boy by heart.

He will be greatly missed by his father, Randy Huffines and his mother and stepdad, Starr and Mike Green all of Broken Bow; his brother, Joshua Huffines of Seattle, Washington and sons Kadence and Roger Huffines and their mother Traci Bailey of Idabel; grandparents Wilbur and Audra Price of Carrollton, Illinois and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, G.L. and Bennie Huffines of Broken Bow. Visitation will be held Friday, November 18, 2011 from 6 to 8 pm at Bunch-Singleton Funeral Home in Broken Bow. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 19, 2011 at 11am at the Bunch-Singleton Chapel with Pastor David Williams officiating.

Burial will follow at Watson Memorial Cemetery in the Oak Hill Community.

Shaina Renee Wigley

Shaina Renee Wigley, age 18, a resident of Wickes, Arkansas died Monday, November 14, 2011.

She was born June 18, 1993 in De Queen. She was an employee of Pilgrims Pride.

She is survived by her mother and step-father, Jay and James May of Wickes; her father, Tony Wigley of De Queen; one sister, Emily Gatlin and one brother, Dalton Saxour both of Wickes; her maternal grandmother, Mary Martin of Detroit, Texas; her maternal grandfather, J.W. Gatlin of Dallas, Texas; her paternal grandmother, Olivia Wigley of De Queen; five aunts, Crystal Vickers, Jerri Gatlin, Juanita Iantorno, Brandy Litchford and Savanah Patterson; four uncles, Wayne Patterson, Jay Litchford, Wyatt Vickers and Kevin Iantorno; her mee-mee and papa, Tina and Tim Litchford of De Queen:; and four cousins, Kevin “Buzz” Iantorno, Jr., Corey Iantorno, Jonathan Iantorno and Lindsee Patterson.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 19, 2011 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Dennis Pruitt officiating.

Emra Kathryn (Kathy) Grant

Emra Kathryn (Kathy) Grant was born to William Thomas and Bernice Walker Tackett on November 2, 1955 in Sweet Home, Oregon. She went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus on November 14, 2011 at Texarkana, Texas at the age of 56 years and 12 days.

She was united in marriage to Billy Frank Grant, Sr. on September 28, 1974. They had one son, Billy Frank Grant,, Jr. She was a processor for 27 years at the Pilgrims Pride Processing Plant and was of the Nazarene Faith. She loved to go camping and fishing, and enjoyed cooking and crocheting and liked reading and doing puzzles. Kathy was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and was a friend to many. She will be missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her loving husband Billy Grant of De Queen, Arkansas; Son: Billy Grant, Jr. of the United States Army; Mother: Bernice Tatum of Gillham, Arkansas; Sisters: Robin and husband Deryl Taylor of Tillmook, Oregon Janice Tatum Tucker of Poteau, Oklahoma; Brothers: William Tackett and wife Lynn of Sweet Home, Oregon Tom Tackett and wife Barbara of Sweet Home, Oregon Robert Tatum and wife Alicia of Gillham, Arkansas Lewis Tatum and wife Elisabeth of Waco, Texas ; Brothers- In-Law: Thomas Grant and wife Consuelo of Cove, Arkansas John Grant of Watson, Oklahoma; Sisters-in- Law: Rose Huff and husband Rick of Watson, Oklahoma Ruth Starr and husband Norris of Mena, Arkansas.

She was preceded in death by her father, William Tackett and a brother, James Tackett.

Funeral services will be Friday, November 18, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Pleasant Grove Church of the Nazarene Brother Bobby Tatum officiating. Interment follows in Pleasant Grove Cemetery at Cove under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.

Visitation for family and friends will be Thursday evening, November 17th, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be John Roberts, Keith Roberts, Glenn Roberts, Arbus “Slim” Manns, Jerry Petit, and Renzer Vance.

F.E. Hassell

Mr. F.E. Hassell passed away Sunday, November 13, 2011 in Jacksonville, TX. He was born July 28, 1936 in Cherokee County, TX.

Mr. Hassell was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and was a retired commissioner for Cherokee County, Texas.

He is preceded in death by his parents Lincoln James Hassell and Thelma Fay Mosley Hassell, and brother L. J. Hassell, Jr.

Survivors include daughter and son in law Connie and Dale Baker of De Queen, Ar., daughter Melissa Holman of Jacksonville, TX, daughter and son-in-law Ashley and James Bentley of Jacksonville, TX; son and daughter-in-law Ronnie and Janet Lewis of Carrollton, TX and son and daughter-in-law F. E. Hassell, Jr. and Stephanie Hassell of Jacksonville, TX; ten grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter.

Pallbearers will be Alton Hicks, Ronnie Lee, Bill Willis, Clifford Mosley, Kenneth Gardner and Robert Underwood.

Funeral services for F. E. Hassell, age 75, of Jacksonville, are scheduled for 2:00 pm Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at Friendship Baptist Church, Corine Community near Jacksonville with Rev. Larry Smith officiating.

Burial will be held at Corine Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 pm Tuesday, November 15, 2011, at Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville, TX.

Services are under the direction of Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville.
