Amy Nicole Hughes Higgins

Mrs. Amy Nicole Hughes Higgins, age 29, a resident of De Queen, Arkansas died Saturday, December 18, 2011 at her home. She was born January 7, 1982 in Hot Springs, Arkansas. She was a receptionist at De Queen Medical Center and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hot Spring, AR.

She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Steve Wilson.

She is survived by her husband, Jared Edward Higgins of De Queen; one son, Jared Edward Higgins, Jr.; three daughters, Hannah and Hayley Murders and Chloe Higgins, all of De Queen; her father, Harold Hughes of Alabama; her mother, Grace Ann Wilson Hughes and her fiancé, Mike Trowbridge of Hot Springs; her grandmother, Mary Ella Wilson of Hot Springs; one brother, John Hughes of Hot Springs; one sister-in-law, Alicia Higgins of De Queen; and her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Twila and Danny Wolford of De Queen.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 23, 2011 in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Hot Springs with John McAllum officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home, De Queen.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, December 22, 2011 at the funeral home.

Jewel Lorette Hoover Kendrick

Mrs. Jewel Lorette Hoover Kendrick, age 84, a resident of Horatio, Ark., died Tuesday, December 20th in the Christus St. Michael Health System, Texarkana, Tex. She was born to Conrad and Flossie Martin Hoover at Mena, Arkansas, on August 31, 1927. She was a homemaker, and a Baptist. She enjoyed bowling, traveling, and spending time with family, especially her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Burnice Hoover, and her husband, Gyne Lee Kendrick.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Debbie Knod of Nederland, Texas, two daughters and sons-in-law, Gwen and Hollis DeVasier of Horatio, and Gloria and Ron Funk of Nederland, Texas, six grandchildren, Brandon Shane DeVasier, Misty Gentry, Tammy Adaway, Lori Knod, Cory Knod, and T. J. Gray, eight great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Jewel Kendrick will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 22, 2011 in the Cerro Gordo Cemetery, with Bro. Charles Ligon officiating, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will receive friends at Chandler Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 21st from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Sarah Ann Perez Silva

Sarah Ann Perez Silva, age 51 of De Queen, AR passed away Thursday, December 15, 2011 at Texarkana, Texas. She was born August 12, 1960 in Hollandale, MS.

Sarah worked at the Wal-Mart Supercenter in De Queen, AR. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-granddaughter. Sarah was very devoted to her whole family. She was a member of the St. Barbara Catholic Church and had lived in De Queen for 25 years moving from Idabel.

She was preceded in death by her father, Manuel Perez Sr.; and her grandfather, Pete Perez.

Sarah is survived by her mother, Lupe Bridges of Idabel; her daughter, Linda Perez of De Queen, AR; grandchildren, Marissa Perez, Chris Perez, Whitney Austin and Jayden Downs, all of De Queen, AR; a great-granddaughter, Surie White of De Queen, AR; brother, Manuel Perez of Idabel; sister, Patsy Ponce of De Queen, AR; nieces, Rosenda Perez and Leticia Aguilar, both of De Queen, AR; several aunts, uncles, other relatives and a host of friends.

A funeral mass will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at the St. Barbara Catholic Church in De Queen, AR. Interment will follow at Canfield Cemetery in Idabel.

The Rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at the St. Barbara Catholic Church in De Queen, AR.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, December 19, 2011 at the funeral home in Idabel.

Stanley Denis Klitz

Mr. Stanley Denis Klitz, age 51, a resident of Winthrop, Arkansas, died Wednesday, December 14th in Horatio, Arkansas.

He was born to Edward Lowell, Sr., and Artie Margaret Rich Klitz at De Queen, Arkansas, on March 29, 1960. He was retired from the Kansas City Southern Railroad, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and horseback riding.

He was preceded in death by his father, a brother, Edward Klitz, Jr., his grandparents, Robert Lee and Sussie Cobb Rich, and Vertie Rich; Martin and Edna Dunlap Klitz.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Lee Williamson Klitz of Horatio, two sons, Trent James “T. J.” Klitz of Red Water, Texas, and Andrew Jerit Klitz of Ashdown, Ark.; two step-daughters, Jada McBride of Lufkin, Texas, and Tiffanty McBride of Horatio, Ark.; his mother, Artie Margaret Klitz of Winthrop, one brother and sister-in-law, Kim and Dala Klitz of Winthrop, one granddaughter, Andrea Klaire Klitz of Foreman, Ark.; a step-grand- daughter, Jaycee Vanhoose of Horatio, and a number aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, and cousins.

Graveside funeral services for Mr. Denis Klitz will be held at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, December 18th in the Pauley Cemetery with Leon Klitz and Larry Combs officiating, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will receive friends at Chandler Funeral Home from 2:00 to 5:00 P.M., Saturday, December 17th.

Robert “Bobby” Buck Purtell

Mr. Robert “Bobby” Buck Purtell, age 40, a resident of Lockesburg, Arkansas died Tuesday, December, 13 2011 at his home.

He was born December 21, 1970 in Ashdown, Arkansas. He was a truck driver and a member of the Falls Chapel Presbyterian Church.

Bobby was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Kyle and Jean Purtell; maternal grandparents, Paul and Pauline Akins; his uncles, Robert Buck Purtell, David Purtell and Mike Akins.

He is survived by his mother and step-father, Linda and Sherrill Kesterson of Lockesburg; his father, Benny Purtell also of Lockesburg; one daughter, Nichole Purtell of Pine Bluff, Arkansas; one sister, Melynie Fielding of Nashville, Arkansas; one neice, Brittany Pearson; one nephew, Garrett Fielding; several aunts and uncles, Nancy and Ricky Baker, Kerry and David Hill, Kelly Purtell, Fran Braswell, David and Hilda Akins, Lynn and James Wray; a special aunt, Kim Ballard; and a number of cousins, relatives and friends.

Graveside Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday December 16, 2011 in the Falls Chapel Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday, December 15th at the funeral home.

Louis Ray Verducci

Mr. Louis Ray Verducci, age 64, a resident of Horatio, Arkansas, died Monday, December 12, 2011 in the De Queen Medical Center.

He was born July 13, 1947 in Providence, Rhode Island. He was a chemical engineer for Shell Oil Company. He loved the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Longhorns, he also loved his adopted grandkids especially, Riki.

Mr. Verducci was preceded in death by his parents, Louie and Eva Tom Verducci and one brother, Tommy Verducci.

He is survived by one uncle, Milton Ray of Houston, Texas; one aunt, Vivian Long of Little River Club, Arkansas; best friends and caregivers, Jodi Wing, Debbie Wing, Alice Tyler, Patrick Wing and Tyler and Sarah Combs and several cousins.

Memorial Services for Mr. Verducci will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 7, 2012 in the United Methodist Church in Horatio with Rev. Phil Smith and Cheryl Nelson officiating.

Willis Dale Archer

Mr. Willis Dale Archer, age 87, a resident of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma died Friday, December 9, 2011 in Oklahoma City.

He was born March 13, 1924 in Eagletown, Oklahoma. Willis believed in God and his son Jesus Christ. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Oklahoma City, a Thirty-second Degree Mason, and a Shriner.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice Newsom Archer; his parents, J.A. and Mary Estella Archer; and three sisters, Juanita Barnett, Lily Bel Jeter, and Lura Lee Archer.

He is survived by one sister, Imogene Graves of Dierks, Arkansas; two brothers, Ruel P. Archer of De Queen and C.A. Archer of Arkadelphia, Arkansas; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Willis graduated from Dierks High School in 1943. He entered military service and served in the South Pacific where he was missing in action for a period of time. In 1947, he was discharged from service. He entered college at the University of Arkansas but had to leave because of malaria that he contracted in the South Pacific. After his recovery from malaria, he enrolled at Henderson State Teachers College in 1948 and graduated in 1951. He received a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Peabody Teachers College in May 1952.

Willis was safety inspector for Lone Star and Red River Arsenal from 1952-1954. He taught school at Hooks, Texas and Jr. High School at Texarkana, Texas from 1954-1956. In 1957 Willis was hired as sales manager trainee for General Mills in Oklahoma City. Due to economic slow down the sales trainee program was cancelled. He met his future wife, Bernice while working at General Mills. They were married in 1961. He was hired by Laminates Unlimited Inc. and worked there until his retirement.

Willis loved his two pet dogs Sissy and Molly, family and friends were important to him and he enjoyed being with them on holidays and family reunions. He spent a lot of time doing yard work and gardening which he enjoyed very much.

Funeral services for Mr. Archer will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 14, 2011 in the First United Methodist Church in Dierks with Robert Lyons officiating. Burial with Masonic rites will follow in the Sunshine Cemetery under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in Dierks.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until service time at the church.

Daniel Lee Brown

Mr. Daniel Lee Brown, age 60, a resident of De Queen, died Sunday, December 11th in the De Queen Medical Center.

He was born on May 3, 1951 at Minneapolis, Minnesota, to the late Harry Harland and Jean Marie Brown. He was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict, retiring as a Tech Sergeant in the U. S. Air Force, with 20 years’ service. He was procurement specialist with Pilgrim Ind. Mr. Brown was a Lutheran, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with family.

He is survived by his wife of over 41 years, Donna Clark Brown of De Queen, two sons and a daughter-in-law, Donald Harland and Mindy Brown of Herculaneum, Missouri, and Dean Lee Brown of Horatio, four grandchildren, Dennis Blake Ericson Brown of Uppsala, Sweden, Justyce Eliese Brown of De Queen, Payton Riley Brown and Preston Ray Brown both of Herculaneum, Missouri, his adopted family, Clistas Lemons of De Queen, Chinna and Gary Jones and family of Umpire, Kevin and Kim Lemons and family of Sims, Texas, Opie Lemons of Horatio, and Lee Lemons also of Horatio.

The family will receive friends at Chandler Funeral Home on Thursday, December 15th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Cremation under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home

Jewell Frances Matthews Skaggs

Mrs. Jewell Frances Matthews Skaggs, age 80, died Saturday, December 10, 2011, at her home.

She was born to Elmer and Cordie Griffin Matthews, at Glover, Oklahoma, on December 8, 1931. She was a cook, as well as a homemaker. She was a Baptist and enjoyed quilting, cooking, and computers.

She was preceded in dearth by her parents, three brothers, her husband Leonard Skaggs, a daughter-in-law, Sharon Branscum, a grandson, Billy Chapman, and a granddaughter, Lea Ann Jackson, and her special companion, Raymond Holley.

She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Kerry and Tita Chapman of Idabel, Okla., Terry and Mary Chapman of Broken Bow, Okla., and Lee Branscum of De Queen, two daughters, Marty Hill of North Liberty, Iowa, and Debbie Rink of De Queen, ten grandchildren, John, Jackie, Christy, Bryan, Terry DeWayne, Chris, Michelle, Jo Lynn, Kim, and D.J., nineteen great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and
nephews.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Jewell Skaggs will be held in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel at 10:00a.m., Thursday, December 15th. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery, De Queen, with Rev.
