Edith Irene Allen

Mrs. Edith Irene Allen, age 92, a resident of Ashdown, Arkansas, died Tuesday, March 6, 2012 in Ashdown.

She was born April 27, 1919 in Genoa, Arkansas. Mrs. Allen was a member of the Methodist Church in Foreman. She was a homemaker and a retired receptionist at Ash Grove Cement in Foreman.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ben Purifoy Sr. and Florence Castle Purifoy of Genoa, Arkansas; two sisters, Floretta Rose and Blanche Owen; two brothers, Jack and Walter Purifoy and three husbands, Clyde Kemp, Wyatt Camp, and C.L. (Buzz) Allen.

Mrs. Allen is survived by one daughter, Virginia Litchford of Berryville, Arkansas; two sons, Kenneth C. Kemp Sr. and wife, Linda, of Horatio, Arkansas and Harold Wayne Kemp and wife, Leesa, of Ashdown, Arkansas; fourteen grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren; three sisters, Frances Cornett of Austin, Texas, Minnie Etta Stone of Texarkana, Arkansas and Patricia Overmyer of Texarkana, Texas; three brothers, Ben Purifoy Jr. of Genoa, Arkansas, F.D. Purifoy of Saratoga, Arkansas and Robert Purifoy of Genoa, Arkansas.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Allen will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 8, 2012 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Roden officiating. Burial will follow in the Old Center Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at the funeral home.

Alfred Eugene Shelton

Picture: Alfred Eugene Shelton, 59, of Texarkana, Texas, died Saturday, March 3, 2012.

Mr. Shelton was born May 12, 1952, in Grannis, Ark. He was former owner of Cornerstone Monuments, a Christian and Army veteran.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mona Branson Shelton; and two daughters, Alicia Leann Shelton and Jenny Lynne Shelton.

Survivors include two sons, Christopher and Cameron Shelton; his mother, Marcelle Gentry Shelton; three sisters; two brothers; and a number of other relatives.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cossatot Reefs on Gillham Lake.

Memorials may be made to Bancorp South, De Queen, Ark., c/o Christopher Shelton.

Wanda Jacquelyn Johnson Martin

Mrs. Wanda Jacquelyn Johnson Martin, age 84, a resident of De Queen, and former resident of Grannis, died Saturday, March 3rd in the Brookewood Nursing Center, De Queen.

She was born to Edward Jack Johnson and Elva Viola Arnold in El Dorado, Arkansas, on June 10, 1927. She was a retired personnel director with Tyson Foods, and a member of the First Baptist Church of Grannis. She enjoyed cooking, dancing, and spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a half-brother, Rex Duane Evans, and two grandchildren, Rick Dwayne Menchew, and Jason Henry Martin, and two daughters-in-law, Judy Martin, and Betty Jean Martin.

She is survived by five sons and daughters-in-law, Gary Henry Martin of Langtry, Texas, Randall Wayne Martin of Grannis, Ricky Lynn and Frances Martin of Grannis, Lendall Arnold and Nedra Martin of Wickes, and Michael Hazen and Rhonda Martin of Hot Springs, Arkansas, fifteen grandchildren, Victor Martin, Gary Lionell Martin, Chiquetta Smith, Vickie Milam, Jimmy Martin, Jess Martin, Arthur Lee Tidmore, Charla Davis, Natasha Brewer, Brad Martin, Brian Martin, Bo Martin, Cody Forga, Michael Martin, and Sherri Smith, thirty-two great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Wanda Martin will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, March 6th in the First Baptist Church of Grannis with Bro. Homer Frachiseur officiating and burial will follow in the Grannis Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Chandler Funeral Home on Monday, March 5th from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M.

Isaac Elroy Reid

Mr. Isaac Elroy Reid, age 68, a resident of Grannis, Arkansas, died Friday, March 2nd in the Christus St. Michael Hospital.

He was born to Eele Leroy and Imelda Gwendolyn Morgan Reid on August 9, 1943, in Grannis, Arkansas. He was a retired machinist working for Sterling Machine Shop, Mena, Arkansas. He was a Baptist, and had a passion for music. He played the guitar and the banjo, and loved to sing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Leroy Franklin Reid, and two sisters, Rena Frachiseur, and Winnie Blackmon.

He is survived by two sisters and a brother-in-law, Elaine and Cuin Norvell of Robert Lee, Texas, and Polly Thomas of Grannis, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Elroy Reid will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 6th in the First Baptist Church of Grannis. Burial will follow in the Grannis Cemetery, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home. A Celebration of his life with live music will be on Monday evening, March 5th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Chandler Funeral Home.

Elves T. Stansbury

Elves T. Stansbury, 92, of Texarkana, AR, formerly of Horatio, AR, died Friday, March 2, 2012 in Bailey Creek Nursing Home in Texarkana, AR.

He was born in Horatio, AR on April 3, 1919. He was retired from Weyerhaeuser in DeQueen, AR. Survivors include his wife, Sue Stansbury of Texarkana, AR, one daughter Eilene Mueller of Hesperia, CA, three step children, Terry Owens and Carolyn Voss of Little Rock, AR, Patricia Traut of Texarkana, AR, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 5, 2012, in the Old Center Cemetery, in Horatio, AR., with Rev. Phillip Dunn officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home, De Queen, AR.

Maudie Lynn Hankins

Maudie Lynn Hankins, age 61, a resident of Gillham, Arkansas, died Friday, March 2, 2012, at her home.

She was born February 19, 1951, in De Queen. She was a graduate of Henderson State Teachers College with a degree in Social Studies, was a social worker in Texarkana and Ashdown at various times, was a shipping clerk at Pilgrims Pride and was a member of the Gillham First Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Nellie Jo Carpenter Hankins.

She is survived by two sisters, Clora Holland of Gillham and Judy Kelly of De Queen; two nieces, Teressa Lynn Cox and Athena Jolynn Holmes; two nephews, John Kelly and Jason Kelly and 8 great-nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 5, 2012, in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Valley Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Sunday, March 4th at the funeral home.

Brendon Lee Cole Glasgow

Brendon Lee Cole Glasgow, age 3 months, a resident of Dierks, Arkansas, died Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at his home.

He was born November 30, 2011 in Hot Springs, Arkansas.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Randall Glasgow and one uncle, Ferrell Kesterson.

Brendon is survived by his father, Colby Glasgow of Dierks; his mother and step father, Haley Kesterson and Nick Lemons also of Dierks; his grandparents, Roger and Shana Kesterson, Rebecca Glasgow, and Tana and Earl Lemons; his aunts and uncles, Heather Lovewell, April and David Bray and Tyler and Tiffany Kesterson; his great-grandparents, Wanda and Aubrey Fatherree, Linda and Lonnie Lawrence and Irene Minor, cousins, Kylee and Carson Bray and Harlee Kesterson; and many other aunts, uncles, cousins and family members.

Graveside funeral services for Brendon will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 3, 2012 in the Old Liberty Cemetery in Dierks with Scott Vance and Kenny Fant officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

Avie Jane Walker Dowdy

Mrs. Avie Jane Walker Dowdy, age 58, a resident of Lockesburg, Arkansas died Sunday, February 26, 2012 in De Queen, Arkansas.

She was born December 2, 1953 in Lockesburg. She worked in the ER admissions for the De Queen Regional Medical Center and attended the Horatio Assembly of God Church in Horatio, Arkansas.

Mrs. Dowdy was preceded in death by her parents, Rufus Lee and Jewell Lona Uzzell Walker, two brothers, Robert and James Walker and one sister Betty Lou Jester.

She is survived by her husband, Charles Wayne Dowdy; one son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and LaTina Shaw of Hot Springs, Arkansas; one daughter, Crista Brown of De Queen; one step-daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Jaime Roberts of De Queen; one step-son and daughter-in-law, David and Alisha Dowdy of Murfreesboro, Arkansas; two special granddaughters, Jenni Shaw of Hot Springs and Justyce Brown of De Queen; seven step-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, David and Lou Walker of Mt. Ida, Arkansas; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Shirley Gossage of Dierks, Arkansas; Wanda and Aubrey Fatheree of Dierks; Ginger and Larry Fatheree of Mineral Springs, Arkansas and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside services for Mrs. Dowdy will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 28, 2012 in the Dierks Cemetery with Rev. Mark Hodges officiating under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home In De Queen.

Leroy Cox

Mr. Leroy Cox, age 78, a resident of De Queen, died Thursday, February 23, 2012 in Mena, Arkansas.

He was born October 27, 1933 in De Queen. He was a retired supervisor for Lone Star Ammunition Plant and a deacon at the Friendship Missionary Baptist Church.

Mr. Cox was proceeded in death by his parents, M.F. "Mutt" and Minnie Mildred Emerson Cox; one brother, Dwayne Cox and one sister, Willie Jean Simer.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Virginia Renfrow Cox of De Queen; two daughters and sons-in-law, Dena and Daren Ross of Mena and Susan Leanne and Grant Barnett of El Dorado, Arkansas; one son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Kelly Cox of Magnolia, Texas; one brother and sister-in-law, Curtis and Donna Cox of De Queen; 11 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Cox will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 25, 2012 in the Wilkerson funeral Home Chapel with Bro. George Frachiseur officiating. Burial will follow in the Redman Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:30 p.m., Friday, February24th at the funeral home.

Alexa KayeAnn Verdic

Alexa KayeAnn Verdic, infant daughter of Kandie Lorraine Verdic and Michael Ray Elmore, residents of Gillham, Arkansas, died Monday, February 20th in a Little Rock Hospital.

She was born at Little Rock, Arkansas, on February 20, 2012.

She was preceded in death by her great-grandfathers, James H. “PawPaw Jimmy” Cecil of Gillham, and J. D. Rose of Hatfield.

Besides her parents, Alexa is survived by a brother, Billy Allen Verdic, her grandparents, Bill and Joyce Verdic of Gillham, her great-grandparents, Barbara and Jack Jones of Grannis, Beth Rose of Lincoln, Arkansas, and Barbara Verdic of Scotch Plains, New Jersey, her godparents Daniel and Kelli Stasik of Wickes, aunt & uncle, Callie and Steven Davis of Gillham, cousins, Breonna Cecil and James Davis of Gillham.

Funeral Services for Alexa Verdic will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 25th in the Baker Rock Church at Wickes with Sister Kelli Stasik officiating. Burial will follow in the Holly Grove Cemetery, Grannis, Ark. Memorials may be made to the Kandie Verdic Account at the Union Bank of Mena at Wickes.
