Rosa Lee Phillips

Rosa Lee Phillips, age 93 a resident of Lockesburg, AR died Friday, February 10, 2012 in Texarkana, Texas.

She was born on July 17, 1918 in Hooks, Texas to William and Evelyn Rose Jackson. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Christian Church of McAllen, Texas

Mrs. Phillips was preceded in death by her husband, Loel Phillips in 2005 and all of her siblings.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Rose Anne and Jerrel Helms; one grandson, Brent Helms and one granddaughter and her husband, Scarlette and J.D. Jones; two great granddaughters, Autumn Helms and Kinleigh Helms.

Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Phillips will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 14, 2012 in the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Lockesburg with Wesley Blankenship officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

Mrs. Candy Jackson

Mrs. Candyce Marie Williams "Candy" Jackson, age 92, a resident of De Queen, died Thursday, February 9, 2012 in the De Queen Medical Center.

She was born to Frank and Inez Sapp Williams at Kansas City, Kansas on September 15, 1919. She worked as a secretary at Council Bluff, Kansas. As well as being a homemaker. She was a member of St. Barbara's catholic Church, a member of the VFW, and volunteered at the Sevier County Historical Museum. She enjoyed crocheting, needle point, fishing, and bowling. She was the winner of the Ms. Brookewood Pageant and the District 7 nursing home Pageant.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Murray Layberger and Orville Casey Jackson, her parents, and two brothers, Donald Paul and Charles LeRoy Williams.

She is survived by a son, Donald D. Jackson of Rogers, Ark. Three nephews, Arthur Konkler, Charles Jackson, and his wife, Dorothy all of Creston, Iowa., and Fred Layberger and his wife, Judy of Colorado Springs, Colorado., three sisters-in-law, Florence Willets, Guanith Willets, and Barb Jennings all of Creston, Iowa., and a special friend, Patty Sharp of De Queen, Ark.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Candy Jackson will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 13th in St. Barbara's Catholic Church with father Eddie D'Almeida officiating. Burial will follow in Redman Cemetery, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home. Visitation will be Sunday, Feb. 12th from 2:00 to 3:00p.m.

Lois Laverne Conatser Aubrey

Mrs. Lois Laverne Conatser Aubrey, age 93, a resident of Lockesburg, died Monday, April 9, 2012, in the Waterton Plaza, Texarkana, Texas.

She was born to Ernest L. and Mamie Lois Gore Conatser at Horatio, Arkansas, on October 12, 1918. She was a homemaker and a member of the Falls Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, flowers, gardening, canning, and spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Derrell S. Aubrey, her parents, and her siblings, David Conatser, Victor Conatser, Milton Conatser, Charles Conatser, Oliver Conatser, Ruby Cobb, Ruth Boyett, Maude Butler, and Novaline Owens.

She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Sue and Roger Mears of Marble Falls, Texas, and Nina Aubrey of Lockesburg, four grandchildren, Julie Sckittone of Austin, Texas, Mac McDaniel of Deer Park, Texas,, Aaron Mears of Dickinson, Texas, and Marcus Mears of McKinney, Texas, seven great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Laverne Aubrey will be held at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, April 14th in the Falls Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Lockesburg, with Bro. Kenny Polk officiating. Burial will follow in the Falls Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will receive friends at Chandler Funeral Home on Friday, April 13th from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M. Visitation will also be at Falls Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church on Saturday from noon until service time.

James Jay Phillips

Mr. James Jay Phillips, age 55, a resident of Horatio, Arkansas, died Thursday, April 5, 2012, at his home.

He was born to James Harold and Dorothy Dean Turner Phillips at Dallas, Texas, on July 9, 1956. He served in the military with the U. S. Marines, and was a self employed landscaper. He was a Baptist, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his ex-wife, Pamela Phillips of St. Louis, Mo, one son and daughter-in-law, James “J. J.” and Christina Phillips of St. Louis, Mo, three daughters and sons-in-law, Michelle and Michael Woods, Mandy Phillips, and Kellie and Kyle Strain all of St. Louis, Mo., two brothers and sisters-in-law, Tex and Sharon Phillips of Little River Club, and Cody and Annette Phillips of Horatio, a sister and brother-in-law, L’Jon and Dennis Hill of Selma, Alabama; five grandchildren, Michael Woods, Jr., Cameron Woods, Lily Woods, Collin Strain, and Isabel Phillips, as well a number of nieces and nephews.

A graveside memorial service for Mr. Jay Phillips will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 14, 2012. in the Horatio Cemetery, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen.

Crystal Theola Bell

Ms. Crystal Theola Bell, age 61, a resident of Lockesburg, Arkansas, died Thursday, April 5, 2012, at Wadley Regional Medical Center, Texarkana Texas.

She was born to Theo & Thelma Clardy Bell at Lockesburg, Arkansas on September 9, 1950. She was a Nurses Aid for Southwest Arkansas Home Health, Nashville. She was a member of the Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church and enjoyed gardening, flowers, watching Jeopardy, singing and spending time with her family.

She is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her son Charles “Petey” Bell of Lockesburg, Arkansas, four brothers and sisters-in-law Felix “Skip” and Barbara Bell; Theo Clardy and Marilyn Bell ; Steven Lindsey and Carolyn Bell all of Lockesburg, AR and Billie Ray and Cathy Bell of Texarkana, TX; five sisters, and a brother-in-law Carolyn and Tommy Halsell, Alicia “Ricky” Bell, June Lampkin, Bonnie Bell and Angela Bell all of Lockesburg, AR., 25 nieces and nephews, and a number of great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Ms. Cris Bell will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, April 14th in the First Baptist Church of Lockesburg, with Rev. Tommy Halsell officiating. Burial will follow in the Holly Springs Cemetery, Lockesburg, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen.

The family will receive friends at Chandler Funeral Home on Friday, April 13th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Wyman Olen “Pete” Winkley

Wyman Olen “Pete” Winkley, age 86, of Vandervort, Arkansas, passed away Wednesday, April 4, 2012 in Mena.

He was born May 16, 1925 in Vandervoort, Arkansas to the late Wyman Luther Winkley and the late Lela Phillips Winkley. He was a Timber worker and also worked for Tyson Hatchery for 25 years. Pete was of the Christian faith and never met a stranger. He was a loving uncle and friend and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by:

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wyman and Lela Winkley, 3 brothers George, Scoot, and Earl Winkley, 3 sisters Eva Daniels, Dorothy Autry, and Maude Pound, a niece, Linda Sanders, and 3 nephews Harmon, Norman, and George Winkley, Jr.

Graveside services will be Friday, April 6, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Witherspoon Cemetery at Vandervoort with Brother Donnie Jewell officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.

Visitation will be general.

Mary E. Tassin

Mary E. Tassin, age 86, a resident of De Queen, Arkansas, died Saturday, March 31, 2012 in the Brookewood Nursing Center.

She was born May 3, 1925 in Dallas, Texas. She owned Penny Hill Rock Shop for 30 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Emmitt and Ossie Farrell Cooper; her husband, Tom Tassin; a son, Michael Edwards; and a grandson, Jeffery Edwards.

She is survived by three sons, Jerry (Angela) Edwards of University Place, Washington, Kenneth Edwards of Lockesburg, Arkansas, and George (Gloria) Asas of Houston, Texas; four grandchildren and a special friend, Barbara Hopkins of De Queen.

There are no services scheduled.
