Gene C. Mallette

Gene C. Mallette was born on Aug. 9, 1920 in Leon, Iowa but he was raised in the Atlantic, Iowa area. He was a longtime resident of Atlantic. He began a new life in his heavenly home on April 2, 2012 at the age of 91, while a resident at Heritage House in Atlantic.

Gene's lifelong occupation was as a watchmaker, jeweler and gemologist at Hanke Jewelry and at Daniel's Jewelry in Atlantic. He was one of the founders of Atlantic Gospel Chapel, where he dedicated many years to serving the Lord and others. Gene served in World War II from 1941-1945 and has written extensively about his experiences. Gene was married to Rosemary Sothman on December 27, 1945 shortly after returning from his overseas military duties.

He was preceded in death by Rosemary, his beloved wife of 54 years; by his parents Frank and Isabel Mallette; and by his brothers, Manney, Richard, Robert and Charles. Gene is survived by his children, Larry and wife, Mary Ann; Allen and wife, Teresa of De Queen; Annette and husband, Terry Sheehan; Lori and husband, Randy Slutz. Gene was proud to be the grandfather of 12 grandchildren and 16 great- grandchildren. He will also be missed by many nieces, nephews and friends.

Gene's family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to all his caregivers at the Heritage House, Cass County Memorial Hospital, Cass County Home Care & Hospice and Dr. Mark Johnson, for their wonderful loving care during his last years.

There will be open visitation at the Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic on Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and on Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. with a family visitation to follow from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 4. Services for Gene will be held on Thursday, April 5, at 10 a.m. at the Roland Funeral Home with Pastor Stefan Johnson officiating. Committal will be in the Atlantic Cemetery with a military tribute. The family would appreciate memorials be donated either to Wounded Warrior Project at www.woundedwarriorproject.org or The Gideons International at www.gideons.org.

Lynn Rena Parker Ward

Lynn Rena Parker Ward, 50 of Ashdown, Arkansas, died Friday, March 30, 2012, at St. Michaels Hospital. Mrs. Ward was born September 4, 1961, in De Queen, Arkansas. She was an LVN and a RN.

Survivors include her husband, Wendell Ward of Ashdown. 2 sons, Russell Hughes of Ben Lomond, Ar., and Chance Ward of Ashdown. 2 daughters, Paige Ward and Isabella Ward of Ashdown. 2 step-daughters, and son-in-laws, Santana and Joshua Klein of Lockesburg, Ar.
Sylvia and Bentley Carver of Lockesburg, Ar. 2 step-sons, Jacob Ward of Lockesburg and Jonathan Ward of Lockesburg. Her father, Troy Parker of Ben Lomond 1 brother, and sister-in-law, Taylor and Terry Parker of Mineral Springs, Ar. 3 grandchildren, Braxton Klein of Lockesburg, Thomas Klein of Lockesburg, and Robert Ward of Sherman, Texas. 1 nephew, Joshua Parker of Mineral Springs, 1 niece and nephew-in-law, April and Chase Friend of Mineral Springs. 1 Great Nephew, Braden Friend of Mineral Springs. She is also survived by many other loving family and friends. She is preceded in death by her mother Janice Faye Russell Parker of Ashdown.

Services will be Monday, April 2, 2012 at 10 am at Nashville Funeral Home with Thomas Ward officiating. Interment will follow in Sunshine Cemetery under the direction of Nashville Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon from 2 to 4 pm

Dee Loyd McIntyre

Dee Loyd McIntyre, age 76, a resident of Winona, Texas and formerly of Lockesburg, Arkansas died Wednesday, March 28, 2012 in Tyler, Texas

He was born October 9, 1935 in Lockesburg. He was a retired carpenter and a Baptist.

Mr. McIntyre was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Patricia McIntyre; his parents, Earl William and Eva Ivanora White McIntyre; one daughter, Cheryl Tanner; two brothers, Lee Floyd McIntyre and L.V. McIntyre and three grandchildren.

He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Randall and Gay Lynn McIntyre of Winona, Texas; one daughter, Patricia Cozine of Spendora, Texas; two sisters, Laverne Runnells of Lockesburg, Arkansas and Reva Ruth of New Boston, Texas; three grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside Funeral Services for Mr. McIntyre will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 31, 2012 in the Old Union Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, March 30th at the funeral home.

Fredia Lorraine Chapman

Mrs. Fredia Lorraine Chapman, age 85, a resident of De Queen, died Tuesday, March 27, 2012 in the Brookewood Nursing Center in De Queen.

She was born February 5, 1927 in Chicago, Illinois. She was self employed and a member of the First Baptist Church in De Queen.

Mrs. Chapman was preceded in death by her husband, Burton Robert Chapman and her parents, Joel Hollis and Wilma Scott Slaton.

She is survived by two sons, Burton Robert Chapman Jr. of Colorado Springs, Colorado and David Lee Chapman of Spotsylvania, Virginia; two daughters, Karen Rhea and Rita Tischer both of De Queen; 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Graveside Funeral Services for Mrs. Chapman will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 30, 2012 in the Old Town Cemetery in Tuskahoma, Oklahoma with Rev. Charles Hebert officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Thursday, March 29th at the funeral home in De Queen.

Charles E. Cox

Charles E. Cox, 71, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 21, 2012, surrounded by his family. He was born at Fort Worth, Texas, to the late Dwight and Mildred Cox. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy.

Charles moved to DeQueen as a teenager where he met his future wife, Linda Rogers, daughter of the late Claude and Frances Rogers. Charles and Linda began dating at age 15, and he taught her to drive. Charles was soon known for his laugh and his public speaking ability. Charles was a letterman in three sports and a National Honor Society member when he graduated DeQueen High School in 1959.

Charles was an early leader as the Arkansas state president of Future Farmers of America. He went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in agricultural economics from Southern State College in Magnolia, Ark., and completed his master’s degree work at Oklahoma State University. He began his career in Conway as a loan examiner and manager for the Production Credit Association, eventually becoming a regional vice president for the Farm Credit Banks of Kansas.

He served as a deacon, elder and chairman of the elders at West Side Christian Church in Wichita, Kansas for many years before relocating to Charlottesville.

He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Linda Rogers Cox, now of Charlottesville, Va.; two daughters, T. Michelle Cox of Charlottesville and Amy Cox Gunnerson of Fort Meade, Md.; one son, Grant Cox of Wichita, Kan.; one brother, Dr. Gerald Cox of Waco, Texas; sons-in-law James Muehlberg and Paul Gunnerson; four grandchildren, Lukas and Levi Muehlberg and Mitchell and McKayla Gunnerson.

Charles’ funeral service was held in Charlottesville, Va. His family will travel to De Queen and invite family and former classmates to attend a memorial service at the Sevier County Museum Annex on Sat., April 7, 2012 from 2 to 4 p.m.

Ora Lea Clements Andrews

Mrs. Ora Lea Clements Andrews, age 78, a resident of De Queen, died Sunday, March 25, 2012 in the De Queen Medical Center.

She was born to Napolean and Dovie Lamb Gore Clements at Horatio, Arkansas, on March 6, 1934.

She was a member of the De Queen Church of Christ, and a homemaker. She enjoyed refurbishing antique furniture, fishing, and watching hummingbirds.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Jack and Sam Clements, a sister, Corine and her husband Billy Jennings Andrews.

She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Billy Glen and Charlene Andrews of Neosho, Missouri, Daniel Wayne Andrews, and Robert and Teresa Andrews both of De Queen, four grandchildren, Kevin, Tiffany, Nicole, and Sandy, four great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Maurine Lambeth of De Queen, and Geraldine Folsom of Nashville, Ark., and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Ora Lea Andrews will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 27th in the Millwee Cemetery, Horatio, Ark., with Van Ledbetter, minister officiating, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at Chandler Funeral Home on Monday, March 26th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Jo Ella Trejo

Jo Ella Trejo, 51, of Arkadelphia, died Tuesday, March 20, 2012. She was born April 25, 1960 in DeQueen, daughter of the late William Joe and Joyce Lee Wilson Kesterson.

She was a graduate of Dierks High School and later attended Henderson State University.

She was a member of Caddo Valley Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She leaves a legacy of love and memories to be cherished by her three daughters, Brittany Perez, Alicia Trejo and Lindsey Trejo of Arkadelphia; four grandchildren, Adelyn Hernandez, Aryana Hernandez, Kingston Dixon and Christian Trejo; two sisters, Rachael Marie Smead of Daisy and Mary Broyles of Wicks.

A graveside service to commemorate her life will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. in Old Liberty Cemetery in Dierks, with Dr. James H. Giles, Sr., officiating.

Cremation arrangements and services provided by Williams Funeral Home-Arkadelphia.

Norman Hugh Burt

Mr. Norman Hugh Burt, age 74, a resident of De Queen, Arkansas died Sunday, March 18, 2012 at his home.

He was born July 6, 1937 in Center Point. He was retired from Weyerhaeuser, retired from the Air Force Reserve and was a Baptist.

Mr. Burt was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Louise Terry Burt in 2008 and his parents, Mack Duff and Lou Ella McClure Burt.

He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and James Wray of De Queen; one son and daughter-in-law, David and Susan Burt of Horatio, Arkansas; one brother and sister-in-law, Royal and Vivian Burt of Lonoke, Arkansas; six grandchildren; Jason Burt of Bella Vista, Arkansas, Jennifer Burt Stiers of Lockesburg, Arkansas, Jarrod Burt of Lake Jackson, Texas, Scott Wray of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Ryan Wray of Los Angeles, California and Jared Quinn of Russellville, Arkansas; five great grandchildren, Dalton Hopkins, Kaytlynn Hopkins, Trista Burt, Alek Burt and Ashton Burt.

Graveside services for Mr. Norman Burt will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, 2012 in the Chapel Hill Cemetery with Bro. Wesley Blankenship officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 20th at the funeral home in De Queen.

Mr. Wallace Troy Allen

Mr. Wallace Troy Allen, age 68, a resident of Dierks, Arkansas died Friday, March 16, 2012 in Nashville, Arkansas.

He was born March 29, 1943 in Dierks. He was a truck driver and a member of the Bethany Baptist Church.

Mr. Allen was preceded in death by his parents, Troy and Virginia Flemister Allen.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley McDonald Allen of Dierks; three sons, John and his wife Stacia Tosh of Texarkana, Texas, Clay Allen of Dierks and Ben Allen of Tulsa, Oklahoma; two daughters, Tracy and her husband Jon Thomas of Nashville and Michelle Ellis of Indianapolis, Indiana; two brothers, Wayne Allen and James Sherrill Allen, both of Nashville, Arkansas; three sisters, Barbara Farnam of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Linda Ward and Joyce Manasco, both of Dierks; six grandchildren, Justin Turner, Derek Turner, Casey Tosh, Eli Ellis, Sarah Ellis and Ethan Ellis; two great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Wallace Allen will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 22, 2012 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel in Dierks with Rev. Richard Leach officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunshine Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in Dierks.
