Billie Austin Blackwood

Mr. Billie Austin Blackwood, age 84, a resident of Dierks, Arkansas died Thursday, June 21, 2012 at his home.

He was born June 9, 1928 in Muddy Fork, Arkansas. He was retired from Weyerhaeuser after 39 years and was a member of the Westside Church of Christ in Dierks. He enjoyed playing music with friends and gardening.

Mr. Blackwood was preceded in death by his parents, William Boone and Margaret Ida Owens Blackwood; 7 brothers and 2 sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Doris Jean Halcombe Blackwood; one brother-in-law, Hayes Halcombe and his wife, Caroline; one sister-in-law, Jo Ellen Chesshir and several nieces and nephews.|

Funeral Services for Mr. Blackwood will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, June 24, 2012 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel in Dierks with James McRae, minister officiating. Burial will follow in the Fellowship Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Saturday, June 23rd at the funeral home in Dierks.

Johnny Wayne Harwood

Johnny Wayne Harwood, age 64, of Grannis, died Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at his friends’ jack and Barbara Jones’ home.

He was born September 24, 1947 to Frank and Elizabeth Bell Harwood in Hatton, Arkansas.

Johnny loved being outdoors, fishing, and hunting. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was loved by all and will be greatly missed.

Johnny is survived by his children: Gregory and Liz White of Broken Bow, Oklahoma: Tammy and Troy Dowdy of Athens, Arkansas; Tracey and Crystal White of Garvin, Oklahoma; Melissa Harwood of Garvin, Oklahoma; Billy and Misty Harwood of Grannis, Arkansas; and Tim and Jessica Harwood of Cove, Arkansas; his brothers and sisters; Earl Dean Harwood of Hatton, Arkansas; Margrette Harwood of Benton, Arkansas; Jane Jewell of Vandervoort, Arkansas; Roger and Karen Harwood of Vandervoort, Arkansas; Linda and Tommy Daniels of Hatton, Arkansas; Peggy and Bud Bailey of Hatton, Arkansas; Leon and Carla Harwood of Vandervoort, Arkansas; and Mike Harwood of Hatton, Arkansas; 22 grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Elizabeth Harwood, his brothers, Darrell and Eddie Harwood, and a granddaughter, Sha’Meika Boyles.

Memorial services will be Monday, June 25, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. Wickes Pentecostal Church with Brother Chris Burke and Brother Rodger Robbins officiating. Interment follows in Witherspoon Cemetery at Vandervoort under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. Visitation will be general.

Frances Helen Culp

Frances Helen Culp, age 73, a resident of De Queen, died Monday, June 18, 2012 in the De Queen Medical Center.

She was born to Edgar Elwin and Regina Sharp Culp in De Queen, Arkansas, on January 22, 1939. She was a Registered Nurse, and a retired employee of De Queen Medical Center with over 45 years of service. She was a Baptist and enjoyed yard sales, reading, and caring for others.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Gerald Culp, and a nephew, Joe Dwayne Ayers.

She is survived by a brother, Lynn Culp of De Queen, a sister, Elwina Ayers of De Queen, a Nephew, Ernie Ayers of Texarkana, Arkansas, a niece, Sherri Blankenship of Horatio, as well as a number of great-nieces and nephews, and a special friend and neighbor, Maxine Davis of De Queen.

Graveside funeral services for Frances Culp will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 21st in the Chapel Hill Cemetery with Bro. Wesley Blankenship officiating, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. Visitation will be general.

Barbara Jean Carroll Butler

Mrs. Barbara Jean Carroll Butler, age 80, a resident of Gurdon, Arkansas, died Thursday, August 23, 2012 in Arkadelphia.

She was born September 20, 1931 in Lockesburg, Arkansas. She was a retired RN and a member of the Southern Baptist Church.

Mrs. Butler was preceded in death by her parents, John H. and Edith Orr Carroll and her husband James Willis Butler.

She is survived by two sons, Dennis Jones of Gurdon, Arkansas and Donnie Jones of Amity, Arkansas; one daughter, Diana O’Bryant of Gravelly, Arkansas; one brother, Kenneth Carroll of Sherwood, Arkansas; 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Graveside Funeral Services for Mrs. Butler will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 25, 2012 in the Lockesburg Cemetery with Dennis Jones officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen, Arkansas.

Bobby Frank Terrell

Mr. Bobby Frank Terrell, age 75, a resident of De Queen, Arkansas, died Tuesday, August 21st in the Christus St. Michael Health System, Texarkana, Texas.

He was born to Thomas Marshall and Hazel Irene Stevens Terrell in Murfreesboro, Arkansas, on January 9, 1937. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving with the U. S. Marine Corp, and was a retired industrial engineer. He was a member of the De Queen Church of Christ, and enjoyed fishing and woodworking.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by a sister, Kay Marshall of Fort Worth, Texas, two nephews, Mike Marshall of North Richland Hills, Texas, and Steve Marshall of Euless, Texas, one niece, Melissa Marshall of Fort Worth, Texas, and five great-nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Bobby F. Terrell will be held at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, August 25th in the De Queen Church of Christ with Van Ledbetter, minister officiating. Burial will be in the Edgewood Cemetery, North Little Rock, Arkansas, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will receive friends at Chandler Funeral Home on Friday, August 24th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Kathleen May

Kathleen May age 62, a resident of De Queen, died Monday, August 20, 2012 in the Christus St. Michael Heath System in Texarkana, Texas.

She was born on July 18, 1950 in England, Arkansas. She was a homemaker and a member of the Faith and Deliverance Church.

Mrs. May was preceded in death by her parents, Wilford Clarence and Bertha Nell Burdan Knott; two sisters, Patsy Payton and Sue Ellingsberg.

She is survived by her husband, Roger May of De Queen; two sisters, Linda Cessor of McGhee, Arkansas and Pat Collins of Winthrop, Arkansas; two nieces, Margie Moser and Karen Moser and one nephew, Travis Moser.

Graveside Funeral Services for Mrs. May will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 23, 2012 in the Chapel Hill Cemetery with Rev. Patrick Grant officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

Preston "P.T." Henry

Preston "P.T." Henry, age 75, of Newhope, died Friday, August 17, 2012.

He was born on September 8, 1936, at Newhope, the son of Dennis Henry and Ival Pinkerton Henry. On January 2, 1959, he was married to Betty Welch. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Judy Graves.

The owner and operator of P.T. Henry Logging, he also farmed and operated a produce stand in Newhope. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Henry of Newhope; three children and their spouses, Jenny and Terry Garrison of Dierks, Ray and Derenda Henry of DeQueen and Mary Henry of Nashville; four grandchildren, Kayla Hardin Wilson, Grant Hardin, Paige Henry and Logan Henry; two sisters, Patsy Shaw of Newhope and Bonnie Henry of Hot Springs; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, August 20, 2012, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Glenwood with Bro. Kenny Fant and Bro. Charles Herbert officiating.

Visitation will be held Sunday evening, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, at the funeral home.

Interment will be in the Mount Joy Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood.

Pallbearers will be Randy Dowdy, Phillip Glasgow, Red Hunter, Tony Davis, Dennis Smiley, Anthony Smelser, Grant Hardin and Mac Irvin.

Joe Allen Sharp

Mr. Joe Allen Sharp, age 82, a resident of Winthrop, Arkansas died Saturday, August 18, 2012 at his home.

He was born June 14, 1930 in Winthrop. He was a retired truck driver for Kraft Foods, a U.S. Army veteran and a member of the Crossroads Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Madison and Mable Stoker Sharp; three brothers, J.M. Sharp, Jr., Farrel Sharp, and Kenneth Sharp; and two sisters, Lita Craig and Marjorie Phelps.

He is survived by his wife, Jo Frances Click Sharp of Winthrop, Arkansas; one daughter and son-in-law, Laura Jo and Larry Hoover of Crossroads, Arkansas; one son, Allen Sharp of Winthrop, Arkansas; two sisters, JoAnn Hale of Garland, Texas and Nadean Flowers of Mentone, California; one brother, Bobby Sharp of Garland, Texas; five grandchildren, Nature McIver, Zack Lee, Falyn Scott, Jeremy Stephens and Ashley Sharp; five great grandchildren, Ethan Anderson, Caden McIver, Erin Lee, Rye Scott and Brody Stephens; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Sharp will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 21, 2012 in the Crossroads Baptist Church with Rev. Gary Steiner officiating. Burial will follow in the Campground Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday, August 20, 2012 at the funeral home.

Natalee Mae LaFon Whitten

Natalee Mae LaFon Whitten, age 93 of Nashville, Arkansas, went to her eternal home on Sunday, August 12, 2012. She was born August 20, 1918 in Whitter, California to the late Carl Cameron and Veda Gertrude Layne LaFon. In her early life, after graduating from high school she was a beautician, working in several beauty shops. She and her first husband William Pennington lived in Honolulu, Hawaii for several years. After her first marriage, she started working as a secretary for Weckerly Surveying Company in Chandler, Arizona.

Mrs. Whitten moved to Nashville in the mid 1980s from Chandler, Arizona. She was a faithful member of the Nazarene Church in Chandler. After moving to Nashville she had attended the Ashdown Nazarene Church, First Baptist Church in Nashville, and most recently the Center Point Missionary Baptist Church when her health allowed. After retirement she took up painting. She loved oils and colored pencils, and had won several awards for her artistic drawings. She had taken lessons at Victoria Autrey’s Art Classes in De Queen. She also loved working in her flower gardens and loved country life. She had helped her late husband, Guy Whitten on their farm by being his secretary, taking care of all the paper work on their cattle farm. She absolutely loved going out to eat and socializing with the many friends she had in this area.

Preceding her in death was her first husband, William E. Pennington, her second husband, Hugh Arnold, her 3rd husband, Leo Everett and her last husband, Guy Whitten. Also an older brother, Carl Arthur LaFon and 2 sisters, Ila Jane Mohrmann and Myrtle Fae Standook. Also preceding her in death was step- daughters Earlene Whitten Valdez and Louise Whitten Bean. A step- granddaughter, Tambra Valdez Serrano. A step-son-in-law Chewy Valdez.

Her survivors include; a step-grandson, Lynn and Donna Bean of Olathe, Kansas
Her friends at Center Point Missionary Baptist Church
Local Step- family, son-in-law, Bill Bean and family of Nashville, grandson, Kevin Serrano and family of Nashville, and great grandson Tyler Serrano.

Her friends in Victoria Autrey’s Art Class in De Queen.

1 Brother, LeRoy LaFon and family of Central Point, Oregon, 1 sister-in-law, Betty Riley and her family of Bellflower, California, 1 cousin, Lyndie and husband Lowell McWilliams and family of Vista, California, 2 step daughters, Eunice Whitten Stephens and family of Florence, Arizona, Guyla Whitten Fisher and Family of Chandler, Arizona. A first Cousin, Grace Tebay and family of Placentia, California. 3 step children of her third husband, Leo Everett, Judy Everett Stouffer and family of California, Alan Everett and family of Sedona, Arizona, Ray Everett and family of Arizona. Nieces and Nephews, Linda and Pat Moore of Nashville and their daughters, Denise Gierhart, Cindi Street and Diane Moore, Karen Bonwell of Wausau, Wisconsin, Cathy Wickersham and family of Placentia, California, Diane Word and her family of High Point, North Carolina, Jerry Pennington and his family of Fallbrook, California, Bonnie LaFon and family of Oregon, Paul Lafon of Arizona, Numerous other family and friends.

Services will be Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at 10 am. at Nashville Funeral Home with Lynn Bean and Alan Davis officiating. Interment will follow in Bluff Springs Cemetery under the direction of Nashville Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday night from 6 to 8 pm. Memorials may be made to Dierksen Hospice, 4425 Jefferson Ave., Suite 104, Texarkana, Arkansas 71854. A meal will be served after the service at the Center Point Community Center in Center Point.
