Carolyn Gore Thomas

Carolyn Gore Thomas, age 97, joined her Lord and Savior and was reunited with her husband, parents, and many other loved ones for a Christmas celebration on December 24, 2012. Carolyn was born on February 2, 1915 in Oswald, Oklahoma to parents Thomas Milton and Maude (Park) Gore.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, one daughter and son-in-law; Sherry and Ray Burkhalter of Benton, Arkansas, one grandson; Thomas Burkhalter and wife Tammy of Benton, three great grandchildren; Tylor, Tiffany and Taylor Burkhalter, a number of nieces, nephews and cousins as well as other relatives and friends who loved her dearly and will miss her always.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her beloved companion and husband of 70 years; Walter Jake Thomas.

Carolyn was a member of Dilworth Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Sevier County. She was employed as the first woman teller in the state of Arkansas at the First National Bank in De Queen in the late 1930’s. She retired from Louisiana Bank and Trust in Shreveport. She loved to play bridge with her friends. She was an extremely talented seamstress who loved sewing for her family. She and her husband had traveled extensively throughout the United States and Canada. Carolyn was affectionately known to her grandchildren as Mubby and will be remembered as a great lady by her family and everyone who knew her.

Graveside service will be Monday, December 31st at 1:00 P.M. at Millwee Cemetery in Horatio, AR, Sevier County interment to follow.

Bobbie Ellis Harlan

Mr. Bobbie Ellis Harlan, age 87, a resident of Gillham, Arkansas died Tuesday, December 25, 2012 at his home.

He was born on August 14, 1925 in Pulaski County, Arkansas. He was a roofer and painter, a World War II Navy veteran and a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Mr. Harlan was preceded in death by his parents, Claud and Hattie Mae Clanton Harlan and his wife, Mary Jane Sappington Harlan.

Funeral Services for Mr. Harlan will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 29, 2012 in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in De Queen with Jerry Brazeal officiating.

Burial will follow in the Mineral Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

Robert L. Frachiseur

Mr. Robert L. "Pap-Pa" Frachiseur, age 88, a resident of Grannis, Arkansas, died Tuesday, December 25, 2012 at his home.

He was born on September 6, 1924 in Grannis, where he owned and operated a farm for many years.

Mr. Frachiseur was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Anner Maddox Frachiseur; his wife, Emma Frachiseur; six brothers, Math, Roy, Oscar, Jim, Nath and Johnnie Frachiseur and one grandson, Shawn Wilcher.

He is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Barbara and Jack Jones of Grannis, AR, Penny Craig also of Grannis, AR and Glenda and Raymond Stark of De Queen, AR; one brother, Abe Frachiseur of Grannis, AR; four grandchildren, Kenney Cecil and wife Mona of Redwater, TX, Jesse Jones and wife Donna of Smithville, OK, Christy Petrichian of De Queen, AR and Teresa Marin of Portland, TX; four step-grandchildren, Mary Allen of Gillham, AR, Brenda Wilcher of FL, Joy Mollock of Fleming Island, FL and Joyce Verdic of Gillham, AR and numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Frachiseur will be held at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, December 29, 2012 in the Holly Grove Church with David Jacobs and Steve Chenoweth officiating. Burial will follow in the Holly Grove Cemetery under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, December 28th at the funeral home in De Queen.

Memorial Donations may be made to his favorite charity, Arkansas Children’s Hospital, P.O. Box 2222, Little Rock, AR 72203.

Thomas M. Hensley

Mr. Thomas M. Hensley, age 88, of De Queen, Arkansas and formerly of Eagletown, Oklahoma died Monday, December 24, 2012 in De Queen.

He was born November 20, 1924 in Oakwood, Texas and worked in oil field construction.

Mr. Hensley was preceded in death by his parents, Dorsey “Dock” and Elizabeth Jeffries Hensley and a daughter, Nancy Willis.

He is survived by his daughter, Shelia Seale of Horatio, Arkansas.

Graveside funeral services for Mr. Hensley will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 27, 2012 in the Campground Cemetery near Winthrop, Arkansas with Joey Brewer officiating and under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

Mildred Lofton Cothren

Mrs. Mildred Lofton Cothren, age 92, a resident of Dierks, Arkansas, died Saturday, December 22, 2012 in Dierks.

She was born June 13, 1920 in Dierks. She was a school teacher, an optician, an extraordinarily loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a member of the Dierks United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Cothren was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver Leach and Ethel Murray Lofton; and her husband, Virgil “Wat” Cothren.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Michael Cothren and Susan Lowry of Swarthmore, PA; two granddaughters, Emma and Nora; two brothers, Kenneth Lofton of Dierks, and O.L. Lofton of Broken Bow, OK; one sister, Mary Lee of Athens, TX; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mrs. Cothren will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 24, 2012 in the Dierks United Methodist Church with Robert Lyons officiating. Burial will follow in the Fellowship Cemetery under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in Dierks.

Viewing will be from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the church.

Dina Martinez

Mrs. Dina Martinez, age 68, a resident of De Queen, Arkansas, died Thursday, December 20, 2012 at her home.

She was born June 9, 1944 in Huacho, Peru. She was a homemaker and a member of the St. Barbara Catholic Church.

Mrs. Martinez was preceded in death by her parents, Augusto Nicho and Carolina Aragon de Nicho; and two brothers, Eliseo Nicho and Cristobal Nicho.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Martinez of De Queen; one daughter and son-in-law, Carol Martinez-Patel and Kirti Patel of Dallas, Texas; two grandchildren, Karina Patel and Dylan Patel; three brothers, Juan Nicho of Sioux City, Nebraska, Santiago Nicho of Lima, Peru and Augusto Nicho, also of Lima, Peru; four sisters, Yolanda Nicho and Luz Nicho, both of Lima, Peru, Ernestina Nicho of Chicago, Illinois, and Miguelina Nicho of Lima, Peru; and a number of nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and cousins.

A vigil service including the Holy Rosary will begin at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 26, 2012 in the Monsignor Scott Friend Pastoral Center.

Funeral Mass for Mrs. Martinez will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 27, 2012 in the Monsignor Scott Friend Pastoral Center at St. Barbara Catholic Church with Father Edward D’Almeida and Monsignor Scott Friend officiating. Burial will follow in the Horatio Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

Eldon Moore

Mr. Eldon Moore, age 84, a resident of Dierks, Arkansas, died Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at his home.

He was born August 3, 1928 in Pike County, Arkansas. He was retired from Weyerhaeuser, was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of the Daisy Freewill Baptist Church.

Mr. Moore was preceded in death by his parents, Archibald Benton and Della Reed Moore; his first wife, Nora Jean Shute Moore; his second wife, Almetta Moore and his brothers and sisters, Quentin Moore, Ernestine Speidel, Lorene Matthews, Archie Moore, Royce Moore, and Ruth Fant.

He is survived by one sister and brother-in-law, Rhudell and Orval Bishop of Carthage, MO; one brother and sister-in-law, Boyd and Betty Moore of Daingerfield, TX; one sister-in-law, Verna Moore of Daisy, Arkansas; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Moore will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 22, 2012 in the Daisy Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Kevin Jewell officiating. Burial will follow in the Dierks Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in Dierks.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday, December 21, 2012 at the funeral home in Dierks.

Woodrow Wilson Kesterson

Mr. Woodrow Wilson Kesterson, age 99, a resident of Nashville, Arkansas, died Monday, December 17, 2012 in the Nashville Nursing Center.

He was born April 6, 1913 in Umpire, Arkansas. He was retired from the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Carroll and Tennessee Counts Kesterson; his wives, Vee Ann Kitchens Kesterson and Mazie Lafern Keith Kesterson.

He is survived by three daughters and one son-in-law, Geneva West and Helen Hunter both of Dierks and Vickie and Olen Craig of Mountain Burg, Arkansas; one son, Rusty Kesterson of Little Rock, Arkansas; one brother, Jack Kesterson of Broken Bow, Oklahoma; 7 grandchildren, Billy Blackburn II, Cherie Borella and husband, Don, Rhonda Moon, Ramona Owen and husband, John, Shelley Craig, Cody Craig and wife, Lacy and Rachel Kesterson; one great-grandson, Evan Owen and one great-great granddaughter, Madison Taylor Saiz.

Funeral services for Mr. Kesterson will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 21, 2012 in the Umpire Community Church with John Henry Williams, Olen Craig and Scott Kitchens officiating. Burial will follow in the Burg Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in Dierks.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday, December 20th at the funeral home in Dierks.
