Helen Amy Rhodes Jewell

Helen Amy Rhodes Jewell, age 85, of Glenwood, Arkansas formerly of Vandervoort passed away Friday, April 5, 2013 in Dierks, Arkansas.

She was born June 30, 1927 in Vandervoort, Arkansas to the late James Hubert Rhodes and Mollie Richardson Rhodes. Helen was married to Chester Jewell until his death in 1985. She was a homemaker and a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, aunt and friend to all who knew her. She will be dearly missed by all.

She is survived by:

Sons: Gary Jewell and wife Carolyn of Elkins, Arkansas

Kevin Jewell and wife Sherri of Kirby, Arkansas

Grandchildren: Stephanie Slane

Katrina Dugan

Jeremy Jewell

Eight great- grandchildren and one great-great grandchild, many nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by parents, James and Mollie Rhodes, husband, Chester Jewell, grandson, Jason Jewell and three brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services will be Thursday, April 11, 2013, 2:00 p.m. at Hatton Baptist Church in Hatton, Arkansas with Brother Kevin Jewell and Brother Gary Jewell officiating. Interment will follow at the Witherspoon Cemetery in Vandervoort, Arkansas under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.

Pallbearers are Jeremy Jewell, Kelby Jewell, Kason Jewell, Tewayne Watkins, Greg Slane, Waymond Dugan, Kodie Patrick and Toby Hignite.

Mildred Eugene Cosper

Mildred Eugene Cosper, 86, a resident of Horatio, Arkansas died Thursday, June 27, 2013 in De Queen, Arkansas.

She was born May 10, 1927 in Red Bluff, Texas. She was a homemaker, faithful Christian, devoted wife and loving mother.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elic and Eunice Hammonds Maxey; husbands, Ted Drexler, Marshall Cantrell; sisters, Estelle Moody, Ethel Sappington, Ava Argo, Lois Cosper and Edith Hoskins; brothers, Jerome Maxey, Ervin and E.S. Maxey.

She is survived by her husband, Tommy Cosper; one daughter, Sandra Hahn and husband Johnny; two sons, Teddy Ray Machicek and wife Jeanette and Thomas Cantrell and wife Janet; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Cosper will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 29, 2013 in the Williamson Community Church in Horatio with Jimmy Roden officiating. Burial will follow in the Horatio Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6-8:00p.m., Friday, June 28, at the funeral home.

Mary Frances Wester Lee

Mary Frances Wester Lee, age 75, a resident of Gillham, Arkansas, died Friday, June 21st at her Home.

She was born to Walter Levi and Jessie Henrietta Jones Wester, in Pampa, Texas, on March 4, 1938. She was a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and was a retired associate of WalMart, as well as a homemaker. She enjoyed sewing, reading, arts and crafts, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Lewis Wester, Walter Wester, a sister, Vickie Bell Savage, and in 2012, her husband, Bethard “Curly” Lee.

She is survived by a son, Lonnie Lee of De Queen, a daughter and son-in-law, Belinda Sue and Charles Goodwin of Poteau, Okla., nine grandchildren, Adam, Eric, Cody, Colt, Charleen, Christel, Kara, Heather, and Breta, fifteen great-grandchildren, a brother and sister-in-law, Emmett Lee and Glenda Wester of Jacksonville, Fla., a sister and brother-in-law, Kimberly and Gene Hanes of De Queen, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Memorial Services for Mrs. Mary Frances Lee will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, June 25th In the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Tom Griffith officiating, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen.

Barbara Faye Minor Keen

Barbara Faye Minor Keen, 64, a resident of Eagletown, Oklahoma died Sunday, June 16, 2013 in Texarkana, Texas.

She was born November 15, 1948 in De Queen, Arkansas. She was a homemaker and a member of the Faith Christian Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Lexie Ray Minor; a daughter, Paula Faye Wakefield and a brother, Warren Grant Minor.

She is survived by her husband, Danny Keen; four sons, Jimmie Keen of Carthage, Missouri, Ben Scaggs of Hughes Springs, Texas, James Scaggs of Longview, Texas and Oscar Scaggs of Summerville, South Carolina; one daughter, Daenna Kellog of Kansas City, Missouri; two brothers, Ronald Minor of Dangerfield, Texas and Wayne Minor of Mt. Pleasant, Texas; sixteen grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Mrs. Keen will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 19, 2013 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel in De Queen with Chuck Darby officiating. Burial will follow in the Chapel Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6-8:00p.m., Tuesday, June 18, at the funeral home.

Mr. Thomas Shelby “Bud” Hankins

Mr. Thomas Shelby “Bud” Hankins, age 76, a resident of De Queen, died Friday, June 14th in the De Queen Medical Center.

He was born to Lester and Lena Young Hankins in Broken Bow, Oklahoma on June 30, 1936. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, having served in the U. S. Marines. He was retired from the Copper Mines in Arizona, and was a Baptist. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mary Ellen Hankins, and two sons, Jerry Hankins and Ernie Hankins.

He is survived by one daughter, Darlene Hankins of Tucson, Arizona, two step-sons and their spouses, Stephen and Holly Hensley of Horatio, and Craig and Tina Hensley of De Queen, a step-daughter and her husband, Susan and Kirby Wallace of Foreman, a brother and sister-in-law, Larry “Sonny” and Debbie Hankins of Horatio, two sisters and brothers-in-law, Joyce Ann and Norm Smith of West Covina, Calif., Mary Lou and Al Coonrod of Phoenix, Arizona, fifteen grandchildren, Jerry, Jr., Jamie, Lindsey, Erica, Lena, Tommy, Ernie, Jr., Candi, Jamie Robbi, Heather, Nikki, LaCosta, Cheyenne, and Adam, twenty great-grandchildren, and number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, June 17, 2013, in Chapel Hill Cemetery with Bro. Coy Arnold officiating, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen.

Charlie Aaron Ray Leathers

Charlie Aaron Ray Leathers, infant son of Dillon Ray and Tamara Watson Leathers, joined our Father and family members at home in Heaven, on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 in the Oklahoma University Medical Center, Oklahoma City, Okla.

He was born May 6, 2013 in Oklahoma City, Okla.

Besides his parents, Charlie is survived by his grandparents, Silas Aaron Watson of De Queen, Edith Marie Thomas of Grannis, Charles Duane and Patricia Ann Leathers of Lockesburg, His great-grandparents, Pauline Christine Thomas of Grannis, Glenvil and Jeanette Kesterson of Lockesburg, and Gene and Ethel Leathers of Lockesburg, as well as aunts, uncles, cousins and other family members.

Funeral Services for Charlie Leathers will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, June 14th in the First Baptist Church of Grannis with Bro. Donnie Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the Grannis Cemetery, Grannis, Arkansas. The family will receive friends at Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen, from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., Thursday, June 13th.

Donald Dean “Hoss” McKinney, Jr

Donald Dean “Hoss” McKinney, Jr., age 50, a resident of De Queen, Arkansas, died Sunday, June 9, 2013, at his home.

He was born July 7, 1962, in Texarkana, Texas. He graduated from De Queen High School in 1981, where he played football for the Leopards. Shortly after graduation, Hoss joined the Army National Guard. He was a retired golf course superintendent and former golf course superintendent for the Link’s Golf Course in Texarkana. He was co-owner and operator of McKinney & Associates, Inc. and a member of the Lions Club.

He is survived by one son, Brian McKinney of De Queen, Arkansas; one daughter, Colby McKinney of Los Angeles, California; his father and step-mother, Don and Martha McKinney of De Queen; his mother, Patricia Reinheimer of Holly Lake Ranch, Texas; one brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Judy McKinney and two nieces, Lorin and Suzanna McKinney, all of Holly Lake Ranch, Texas; his uncle and aunt, Jerry and Rochelle McKinney and 3 cousins, Bob, Terri and Kathy all of Conroe, Texas and several close friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 12, 2013, in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel. Cremation will follow.

Mr. Franklin Delano Brown

Mr. Franklin Delano Brown, age 79, a resident of De Queen, died Monday, June 10th in the Christus St. Michael Health System, Texarkana.

He was born to Andrew Merrill and Ardith M. Haff Brown in Lawton, Oklahoma on November 26, 1933. He was a veteran of Vietname War, having served in the U. S. Air Force 18 years, and worked in construction in Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Pauline Gilmore of Dallas, Texas.

He is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Reventa and Charles Ligon of De Queen, a son and daughter-in-law, Frank M. and Kathy Brown of Summerville, South Carolina, two daughters, Vickie Brown of Summerville, South Carolina, and Laura Sumner and her husband of Hugo, Oklahoma, a grandson, Brent, a granddaughter, Paige, and a great-granddaughter, Zoe, and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen on Wednesday, June 12, from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.

Earl (Buddy) Slaton

Mr. Earl (Buddy) Slaton, age 89, a resident of Lockesburg, Arkansas, passed away Sunday, June 9, 2013, at 6:50 a.m. at Brookewood Nursing and Rehab Center in De Queen, Arkansas.

Earl was born in Lockesburg, Arkansas, on October 8, 1923 to John William Slaton and Rosalene Revels Slaton. He served in the Army Air Corp as an aircraft mechanic. He worked for Arkansas Forestry Commission for 35 years as a heavy equipment operator.

Mr. Slaton was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Mary Binkley and Corene Latimer of Hooks, Texas.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Bonita Waits Slaton of Brookewood Nursing Center; two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Jim Sharp of Lockesburg and Bonita and Glen Houser of Texarkana, Arkansas; one son and daughter-in-law, Earl (Sonny) and Jennie Slaton of Texarkana, Arkansas; eight grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and one brother-in-law, James Latimer of Hooks, Texas.

Graveside Funeral Services for Mr. Slaton will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 12, 2013 in the Oddfellows Cemetery in Lockesburg with Ann Holley and Jimmy Sharp officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 11th at the funeral home.
