Ella Bennett Davis

Ella Bennett Davis, 87, of Corning died Sept. 27, 2002, at Green Acres Nursing Home in Paragould.

She was born Jan. 3, 1915, in Corning, the daughter of the late Oscar and Mamie Bennett.

She was married to the late Raymond Davis. She was a homemaker.

Also preceding her in death were her grandparents, W.T. and Lacy Bennett; a daughter, Alma Louise Bennett; two brothers, Cecil Bennett and W.O. Bennett; and one sister, Agnes Pond.

She is survived by two daughters, Dorothy Ann Moody of Piggott and Erma J. Hart of Corning; one brother, Bill Bennett of Houston; three sisters, Nellie Mitchell and Thelma Galloway of St. Louis and Osel Edington of Corning; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, in Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel in Rector with Jon Hart and David Moody officiating. Burial was in Woodland Heights Cemetery in Rector.

Pallbearers were Jon Hart, Jason Hart, Bill Edington, David Moody, Toby McGuire and Richard Simmons.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers memorials be sent to the Paragould Children's Home.

David Cowgill

David Cowgill, 57, of Piggott, died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, in the Piggott Community Hospital.

He was born Dec. 24, 1944, in Piggott, the son of the late Joseph and Leah Watson Cowgill.

He was united in marriage to Viola Petty on April 7, 1966. To this union one son was born.

He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam conflict.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Larry and Paul; and two sisters, Betty Cowgill and Sue Parks.

He is survived by his wife, Viola Cowgill of Piggott; one son, Jeff Cowgill; one grandson, Christopher Collin Cowgill; three sisters, Willa Dean Davis of Joplin, Mary Lee Phillips of Jonesboro, and Paulette Garrett of Poplar Bluff; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel. Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott will be in charge of the arrangements.

Charles William Duffel, Sr.

Charles William Duffel, Sr., 58, of Doniphan, Mo., died on Jan. 27, 2003, at Three Rivers Healthcare in Poplar Bluff.

He was born June 15, 1944, in Rector. He worked as a Brakeman for the Union Pacific Railroad and was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by his wife, Juanita Duffel of St. Elizabeth, Mo.; his mother, Freda Tyler Landrum of Rector; one son, Charles William Duffel, Jr. of Dupo, Ill.; two daughters, Tonia LeSieur of Fulton, Mo., and Shelly Marie Peskar of Imperial, Mo.; two brothers, Gary Duffel of Paragould and John Duffel of Jonesboro; one sister, Jayne Calvin of Rector; eight grandchildren, Sarah Peskar, Bobby Peskar, Hope Duffel, Joshua Duffel, Cody Duffel, Ashley Duffel, Kody LeSieur and Tyler LeSieur.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, at 10:30 a.m. in the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Kenny Burns officiating. Burial was in Woodland Heights Cemetery in Rector. Mitchell Funeral Home of Rector was in charge of arrangements.

Steve D. Scheffler

Steve D. Scheffler, 50, of Batesville died Friday March 28, 2003, at the White River Medical Center in Batesville.

He was born July 10, 1952, in Piggott to Carl Eugene and Viola Mae (Brewer) Scheffler. He was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl Eugene and Viola Mae Scheffler; two brothers, Darrell Scheffler and Mack Scheffler; and one grandson, Jonathan Scheffler.

He is survived by two sons, Mark Scheffler and Clynton Scheffler both of Batesville; one daughter, Krystal Scheffler of Batesville; one brother, Donnie Scheffler of Newark; one sister, Judy Hoggard of Piggott; eleven grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

Graveside services were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2003, at the York Cemetery near Marcella with Bro. David Insell officiating. Pallbearers were Blake Winkle, Patrick Watts, Vance Anderson, John Hardin, Terry McGee, and Wayne Davis.

Qualls Batesville Funeral Service of Batesville was in charge of the arrangements.

Mattie Lee Thrasher

Mattie Lee Thrasher, 89, of Rector died Thursday, May 22, 2003, in the Franklin Health Care in Rocky Mount, Va.

She was born April 3, 1914, in Van Buren County, Ark., the daughter of the late Joe and Rosa Cates Dillard.

She was united in marriage to Thomas Thrasher on Feb. 5, 1932, to this union four sons were born.

She was a member of the South Thornton Street Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom; one son; four sisters; and two brothers.

She is survived by three sons, Paul Thrasher of Belleville, Ill., Frank Thrasher and wife, Fay, of Rector and Emil J. Thrasher and wife, Charlene, of Wirtz, Va.; five grandchildren, Virginia Bagwell, Marilyn Breeden, Mark Thrasher, Leigh Anne Kippeny and David Thrasher; eight great-grandchildren, Amanda, Amber, Kim, Lisa, Ashley, Corine, Tyler and Madison; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2003, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Richard Akins officiating. Burial followed in the Piggott Cemetery. Pallbearers were Alan Branson, Dale Smith, Don Caldwell, Mike Hill, David Thrasher and Mark Thrasher. Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott was in charge of the arrangements.

Edna Aleen Carman

Edna Aleen Carman, 79, of Piggott died Wednesday, June 18, 2003, in the St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro.

She was born July 10, 1923, in Oxly, Mo., the daughter of the late John and Eva Lowe Houston.

She was united in marriage to George Garnet Carman on May 4, 1941. He preceded her in death on March 12, 1974.

She was also preceded in death by two infant sons, Larry and Charles Carman; and one brother, Jackie Houston.

She is survived by three children, Doris Jackson of Oxly, Mo., Doyle Carman of Warrenton, Mo., and Carl Carman of Piggott; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Ruth Newsom of Jackson, Mo.; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 20, 2003, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Mike Book officiating. Burial followed in Antioch Cemetery in Oxly, Mo. Pallbearers were George Jackson, John Beaver, Charles Pollard, Carl Pollard, John Fox and Jerry Williams. Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott was in charge of the arrangements.

Jack H. Frederick

Jack H. Frederick, 77, of Hardy, formerly of Piggott, died Thursday, Aug. 9, 2001, at his home.

He was born April 11, 1924, in Nimmons, the son of the late Thomas and Leona Pruett Frederick.

He married Pearl Edwards on July 28, 1958.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Maxine Frederick; one daughter, Judy Ann Frederick; three sons, Jack Harrison Frederick Jr., James Frederick and Dale Frederick; one brother, Herbert Frederick; and one sister, Ruby Sims.

He is survived by his wife, Pearl; six children, Lonnie Frederick of Pollard, Mary Beth Lee of Evening Shade, Ark., Ted Frederick of Ash Flat, Ark., Vanessa Metheny of Cherokee Village, Ark., and Ruby Lybolt and Ruth Howell of Salem, Ark.; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruby Busby of Piggott and Joyce Dudley of Texas; four brothers, Pete Frederick of Kennett, Max Mayberry of Piggott, Tommy James Frederick of Texas, and Z.J. Mayberry of New Jersey; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, at the Church of Christ in McDougal with J.T. Ashby officiating.

Burial was in Cummins Chapel Cemetery near Pollard with Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Gerald Hullett, Eddie Medling, Devon Young, Freddy Bowers, Ronald Cashion, Wayne Allmon, Curtis Bailey and Jerry Cook.

Mattie Oliver Keck

Mattie Oliver Keck, 89, of Imperial, Mo., formerly of Rector, died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2001, at the Festus Nursing Home in Festus, Mo.

She was born May 27, 1912, in Rector, the daughter of the late Austin and Katie Loveless Bradford.

She was united in marriage to George Keck. He preceded her in death in June 1969.

She was also preceded in death by one son, Sammy Oliver, on Nov. 20, 1996; one daughter, Wanda Lee Taylor, on May 19, 1985; three brothers, Lewis, Claude and Frederick Bradford; and four sisters, Zela Dodd, Lela Davis, Eva Garrison and Inas Burns.

She is survived by one son, Wayne Oliver, and wife, Della, of Imperial; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two brothers, Rudy Bradford of Rector and Carlos Bradford of Arnold, Mo.; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 23, in Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Danny Self officiating.

Burial was in Mitchell Cemetery near Greenway with Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Gary Bradford, Lindall Bradford, Kenneth Sanders, Mike Jetton, Steve Oliver, Scott Oliver and Jim Oliver.

Jesse Odel Rundel

Jesse Odel Rundel, 59, of Piggott died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002, at Piggott Community Hospital.

He was born Jan. 25, 1943, in Clay County, the son of the late Iven Jesse Rundel and Chapel Slayton.

He was of the Church of Christ faith and was a factory worker.

He was preceded in death by one son, Byson Ray Rundel.

He is survived by two sons, Ivan Odel Rundel of Paragould and Robert Neal Rundel of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; a daughter, Shawna Kay Rundel of Marmaduke; two brothers, Don Ray Rundel of Piggott and Melvin Rundel of Michigan; 14 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, in Irby Chapel in Piggott with Bro. Kim Bridges officiating.

Burial was in Mitchell Cemetery near Greenway with Irby Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Brian Potter, Jeremy Rundel, David Taylor, Greg Taylor, Mitchell Taylor and Steve Slayton.
