Losson Ethridge Dover

Losson Ethridge Dover, 83, of Piggott died Friday, March 29, 2002, at Piggott Community Hospital.

He was born Oct. 12, 1918, near Piggott, the son of the late Herbert Millage and Lula Hayes Dover.

He married Sulvanda Neeley on Dec. 14, 1935. To this union two daughters were born. His wife preceded him in death on Feb. 26, 2000.

He served in the U.S. Navy SSC third class 1945-46 during World War II. He served on the USS Edgecomb. He was post commander from 1959 to 1962 in Piggott and was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans.

He has been a Mason for years and was raised to Master Mason on Feb. 8, 1960, at Piggott Lodge 545 in Piggott. He was retired from General Motors Local 598 UAW in Flint, Mich.

He was also a former member of the Ford Tractor Campers Club. He was an ordained deacon in the Calvary Missionary Baptist Church and was, at the time of his death, a member of Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church east of Piggott.

He was also preceded in death by one great-grandson and two brothers, Clifford and Marvin Dover.

He is survived by two daughters — Linda and husband, Richard Johnson, of Clawson, Mich., and their two daughters, Maloy and Dave Dick and sons, Ryan and Kevin, of Rochester Hills, Mich., Robin and Dave Londal and children Cody, Sarah and Alec of Farmington Hills, Mich., daughter Janice Kay Major of Union City, Mich., and her two sons, Mike and Kellie Stites and children, Katie, Rachel and Philip of Flint, Mark and Didi Stites and children, Nathan and Mindi, Justin and Richelle Stites of Union City; and four sisters and their families, Roberta Stoeffler of Alcoa, Tenn., and Una Pollard, Betty Pollard and Sue Benson, all of Piggott; and other relatives and friends.

Masonic services were held at 7 p.m. Sunday, March 31.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 1, in Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Bro. Mike Book officiating.

Burial was in Piggott Cemetery with Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Steve Pollard, Terry Pollard, Jeff Pollard, Kris Pollard, Dewayne Benson and Alan Morris.

Alma Faye Williams Burton

Alma Faye Williams Burton, 64, of Eureka, Mo., died May 13, 2002.

Born in Brooklyn, she was a graduate of Campbell High School. She married in 1954 and had been a resident of Eureka for many years.

A homemaker who excelled with craft work, she was hired as a functional aide at Marymount Manor Nursing Center in 1991. She was fond of spending time with her close friends and family and her poodle Princess.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald L. Burton.

She is survived by her children, Sharon K. (Tom) Phillips, Donna E. (Tom) Hance, Debbie F. (Steve) Berner, Cathy E. (Randy) Johnson and Donnie L. Burton Jr., all of Eureka; siblings, Carl Williams and Betty Birmingham of Arkansas, Virl Williams of Illinois and Darlene Garner of Holt's Summit; grandchildren, Kim, Melissa, Amy, Kenny, Chris, Stevie, Kelsey and Devon; and great-grandchildren, Kaylee and Madison.

Funeral services were held at Cunningham-Millard-Cantriel Funeral Home in Eureka. Burial was in Sunset Cemetery.

Donations may be made in her memory to the American Lung Association.

Flossie Johnson

Flossie Johnson, 98, of St. Francis passed away Sunday, July 28, 2002 in the Piggott Community Hospital.

She was united in marriage to Samuel Johnson in 1921. To this union four childern were born.

She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, J.D. Johnson; and one daughter, Maddlin Tate.

She is survived by two sons; Don Johnson and Ray Johnson.

Graveside services were held Wednesday, July 31, 2002 at 2:30 p.m. in Hall Cemetery in St. Francis, Ar. Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott was in charge of arrangements.

Louie Pankey

Louie Pankey, 71, of Campbell died Nov. 28, 2002, at the General Baptist Nursing Home in Campbell.

Mr. Pankey was born March 28, 1931, in St. James, Mo., the son of the late Ike and Rebecca Jane Brewer Pankey.

He was a retired farmer and a member of the Assembly of God faith. He enjoyed church, gardening and fishing. He spent most of his life in Piggott and Pollard areas, returning to Campbell to live in October 2001.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, George Franklin Pankey, Ross Lee Pankey and Tim Pankey, and two sisters, Sarah Jane Pankey and Ethel Marie Pankey.

He is survived by three sisters, May Bell Willard of Campbell, Edith Triplett of Luxora, and Evelyn Oden of Paragould; one brother, Jim Pankey of Paragould; a special niece, Susie McMillan; several nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, in Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Larkin Enlow officiating.

Burial was in New Hope Cemetery in Pollard. Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott was in charge of the arrangements.

Elbert Ray Reed

Elbert Ray Reed, 57, of Mount Morris, Ill., died Thursday, March 20, 2003, in Pinecrest Manor Nursing Home in Mount Morris.

He was born March 21, 1945, in Piggott, the son of the late Edger and Mildred Arehart Reed.

Mr. Reed married Judith Schrader Freeze on Sept. 29, 1989, in Oregon, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edger and Mildred Arehart Reed; one son, Danny Reed; and two sisters, Dorothy Reed and Bonnie Bates Thrasher.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Reed; two daughters, Mrs. Beth Ann Gasaway and Mrs. Tracy Waldrop both of Alabama; one step-daughter, Mrs. Jeannie Shinabarger of Bryon, Ill.; six grandchildren; three brothers, James Reed and Gerald Reed of Rockford, Ill., and Robert Reed of Piggott; four sisters, Velma Duncan of Arkoma, Okla., and Zettie West, Betty Phillips, and Mary Jane Dees all of Piggott; several nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

Martha A.D. Holifield

Martha A.D. Holifield, 80, of Piggott died Friday, June 20, 2003, in the Piggott Nursing Center in Piggott.

She was born Dec. 10, 1922, in McDougal, the daughter of the late James Claude and Hettie Lou Carpenter Parrish.

She was united in marriage to Art Holifield on May 15, 1953.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Coy L. Parrish; and one sister, Decima Munger.

She is survived by her husband, Art Holifield of Piggott; one son, John Hogard and wife, Marsha, of West Memphis, Ark.; one grandson, Terry and fiancee', Wanda, of Paragould; one granddaughter Michelle Malone and husband, Brian, of Jonesboro; two great-grandchildren, Ashley and Daniel; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 23, 2003, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Charles Carrens officiating. Burial followed in the Piggott Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bill Irby, Don Featherston, Larry Holcomb, Guy Brinkley, Van Taylor and Tom Sneed. Honorary pallbearers were Wallace Gookin, David Wheeler and Ed Howard. Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Donald Bell

Donald Bell, 62, of Piggott died Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, at his home.

He was born Dec. 17, 1940, in Nimmons, the son of the late Martin and Rosie Mae Rundel Bell.

He was united in marriage to Sue McKenney on Feb. 26, 1961. To this union one son was born.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Vivian Thompson and Faye Bell.

He is survived by his wife, Sue Bell of Piggott; one son, Durbin Bell and wife, Patricia, of Piggott; one sister, Vera Hankins and husband, Jack, of Hillsboro, Mo.; several nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003, in the New Hope Cemetery with C. Ray Miller officiating. Burial will be in the New Hope Cemetery in Pollard. Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott is in charge of the arrangements.

Hershel D. Busby

Hershel D. Busby, 77, of Piggott died Wednesday, Aug. 8, at the John J. Pershing VA Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Mo.

He was born June 18, 1924, in Piggott, the son of the late Ira and Elsie Warren Busby.

He married Ruth M. Frederick on Nov. 9, 1946, at the Greenway Church of Christ.

He was a World War II Army veteran and was an electrician. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 4517 and Disabled American Veterans.

He was preceded in death by one sister.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth; one brother, Herbert Ray Busby of Alabama; several nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12, in Irby Funeral Home Chapel in Piggott with C. Ray Miller officiating.

Burial was in Piggott Cemetery with Irby Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Delbert Townsend, David Frederick, Leon Hager, Jackie Simms, Tommy Frederick, Leon Frederick, Larry Sells and Ronnie Sells.

Dorthy Jones

Dorthy Jones, 75, of Piggott died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2001, at Piggott Community Hospital.

She was born April 7, 1926, in Poplar Bluff, Mo., the daughter of the late Earl and Gladys Turpin Souders.

She married Claude Jones on March 19, 1946. To this union two children were born.

She was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Piggott.

She is survived by her husband, Claude; one son, John Jones of Malden, Mo.; one daughter, Janet Byrd, of Tallahassee, Fla.; six grandchildren, Richard Byrd III, Shane Byrd, Stephanie Byrd, Christine Garner, Rhonda Woodruff, and Vickie Yarnell; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Berniece Flanigan of Poplar Bluff and Katheran Seymour of New Mexico.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21, in Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Kevin Murray officiating.

Burial was in Piggott Cemetery with Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Johnny Porter, J.B. Perry, Edgar Baker, Jim Scheffler, Spencer Permenter and Al Turner.
