Virgle L. Davis

Virgle L. Davis, 90, of Forrest City, died Friday, July 19, 2002, at the Baptist Hospital in Forrest City. She had been in poor health in the past several years.

She was born Sept. 20, 1911, in Tuckerman, the daughter of the late Raymond and Sadie Templeton Williams. She married Gibson Fisher Davis in 1930, and he preceded her in death in 1997. She had made her home in Forrest City most of her life, was a homemaker, and was a member of the Lindauer Road Church of Christ.

She is survived by two daughters, Stella Maye Hancock of Piggott and Mary Joan Taylor of Forrest City; three sons, William Gibson Davis of Jonesboro, Danny Kay Davis of Forrest City and Ray Fisher Davis of Columbia, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of other friends and relatives.

Funeral services were held 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 23, at Stevens Funeral Home in Forrest City, with Bro. Worley Ferguson officiating. Graveside services were held 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 23, at Arnold Cemetery near Swifton, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be sent to Paragould Children's Home.

Patsy R. Boyd

Patsy R. Boyd, 75, of Pollard died Tuesday, April 1, 2003. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time. Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Thelma Marie Parker

Thelma Marie Parker, 79, of Malden died Saturday, Aug. 2, 2003, at Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter.

She was born Jan. 26, 1924, in Gideon, Mo., the daughter of the late Peter David Mitchem and Eula Robertson Mitchem.

She was a member of the Full Gospel House of God Church in Malden.

She is survived by two sons, Henry and Vernon Maxwell of Malden; one daughter, Kathy Foley of Piggott; one sister, Lucy Hillman of Clarkton; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 4, 2003, in the Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel in Malden with Rev. Ray Fowler officiating. Interment followed in Stanfield Cemetery in Clarkton.

Bradshaw Funeral Home of Malden was in charge of the arrangements.

Laura Speer Jetton

Laura Speer Jetton, 86, of Greenway died Tuesday, April 1, 2003.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 3, 2003, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Boyd Wicker and Otis Book officiating. Burial will follow in Shiloh Cemetery near Paragould.

Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday (today).

R.E. "Punk" Mann

R.E. "Punk" Mann, 81, of Piggott died Monday, Aug. 4, 2003, in the Murphy Health and Rehabilitation Center (the former Piggott Nursing Center) in Piggott.

He was born Dec. 5, 1921, in Piggott, the son of the late Robert Earl and Zelphia Hutchison Mann. He was the youngest of 12 children.

He was united in marriage to Elwanda Pittman on Dec. 14, 1940.

Mr. Mann retired from Northern Propane Gas, Co., in 1984. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and served in the Philippines during World War II. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in St. Francis.

He was preceded in death by two sisters; eight brothers; and one son-in-law, Les Shaw.

He is survived by his wife, Elwanda Mann of Piggott; two daughters, Pat Kilbreath and husband, Barry, of Piggott and Luella Shaw of St. Charles, Mo.; two sons, Mike Mann and wife, Pam, of O'Fallon, Mo., and Tony Mann and wife, Sharon, of Piggott; one sister, Juanita Vernon of St. Francis; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and other friends and relatives.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday (today), Aug. 6, 2003, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Brother O.H. Brooks and Brother Todd Ewing. Burial will be in Gravel Hill Cemetery in St. Francis. Pallbearers will be Shawn Mann, Jeffrey Mann, David Mann, Ryan Shaw, Frank Williams and Delbert Hughes.

Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott is in charge of the arrangements.

Darrell Wilson Clark

Darrell Wilson Clark, 84, died May 7, 2002, in Chandler, Texas. His remains were cremated.

He was born March 12, 1918, the son of the late Homer E. Sr. and Audrey M. Parker Clark.

He married Nadine Powell in 1950. To this union one child was born.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Champ V. and Homer E. Jr.

He was a decorated World War II veteran. He enlisted in 1940 and was an infantry sergeant in II Corps under Gen. George Patton in North Africa. He was discharged in April 1945.

He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed the open spaces. His ashes were spread over the trout streams in the vast northwest in Oregon.

He is survived by his daughter, Mary Ann Clark Siegel of Ashland, Oregon, and grandson, Erik Clark Siegel; his sisters, LaVerne (Bill) Spicer of Tennessee and Joan (Edward) Teague of Sun City, Arizona; a brother, Richard (Betty) Clark of Bedford, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.

Pauline E. Williams

Pauline E. Williams of Campbell died Monday, June 23, 2003, at the age of 86 years, eight months, and 16 days at the General Baptist Nursing Home in Campbell.

She was born Oct. 7, 1916, in St. Francis to Fred and Sylvia Sarver Langley.

She was united in marriage to Nathan R. Williams on Jan. 17, 1943, in Piggott. He preceded her in death on Oct. 14, 1970.

She was also preceded in death by one sister, Ravelee Langley.

Mrs. Williams was a housewife. She was of the General Baptist faith.

She is survived by four sons, Ralph Williams and wife, Joyce, of Campbell, Rudie Williams and wife, Sandra, of Eastland, Tx., Hulen Williams and wife, Carolyn, of Bartlett, Tn., and Fred Williams and wife, Sarah, of Campbell; 11 grandchildren, Todd Razer, Tina Lynn Nugent, Chad Razer, Stephanie McElroy, Eric Razer, Melissa Acosta, Hope Williams, Johnathan Williams, Jo Anne Fowler, Alexandra Williams and Amber Williams; seven great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Andrew Langley of Poplar Bluff, Hubert Langley of Kingman, Ks., and Willard Langley of Katy, Tx.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday (today), June 25, 2003, at the Landess Funeral Chapel in Campbell with Bro. Fred Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Elder Cemetery in Campbell. Landess Funeral Home of Campbell is in charge of the arrangements.

Verlie Lee Wiley Warren

Verlie Lee Wiley Warren, 92, of Piggott died Sunday, Aug. 3, 2003, in the Piggott Community Hospital in Piggott.

She was born Sept. 14, 1910, in Piggott, the daughter of the late Thomas Lee and Nettie Williams Wiley.

She was united in marriage to Fate Warren Sept. 29, 1929. He preceded her in death on Nov. 12, 1975.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Claude and Ernest Wiley; six sisters, Eula, Mamie, Vera, Marie, Ona and Lois.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews; a dear friend, Mary Lou Scott; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2003, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Dr. Troy Prince and Paul Seal officiating. Burial followed in the Piggott Cemetery. Pallbearers were Heath Haywood, Paul Reeder, Brandon Reeder, Jordan Norred, Lee Whittley and Brian Seal.

Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott was in charge of the arrangements.

Wendell Berry

Wendell Berry, 67, of Piggott died Monday, March 25, 2002, at his home.

He was born July 18, 1934, in Mountain View, Ark., the son of the late Wiley and Olga Berkley Berry.

He married Lavonne Weece on Aug. 29, 1953. To this union seven children were born.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Frieta McCullough.

He is survived by his wife, Lavonne; seven children, Timmy Berry and wife, Christi, of Springfield, Mo., Arlene Gregory and husband, Roger, of Rector, Marlene Berry of Dexter, Mo., Vicki Berry and friend, Billy, of Gulfport, Miss., Teresa Scharer and husband, Corky, of Britton, Mich., Lonnie Berry and wife, Lisa, of Prescott, Ariz., and Melissa Berry of Marmaduke; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; five brothers, Marvin Berry of Mountain View, Norman Berry of Coolidge, Ariz., Charley Berry of Eads, Tenn., George Berry of Indianapolis, Ind., and Benny Berry of Texas; two sisters, Betty Russell of Mountain Home and Jane Lacy of Harrisburg; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 29, in Hoggard and Sons Chapel with John Iggens officiating.

Burial was in Gravel Hill Cemetery near St. Francis with Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Jimmy Graddy, Kevin Gurley, Michael Gurley, Ronnie Graddy, Max Poole and Phillip Wagster.

Austin Tyler Higdon

Austin Tyler Higdon, the one-year-old son of Tyler Jade and Chantel Webb Higdon of Jacksonville, died Friday, March 28, 2003, in Little Rock.

He was born March 22, 2002, in Palmer, Alaska. He was of the Baptist faith.

Higdon was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Timothy Higdon.

He is survived by his parents, Tyler and Chantel Higdon of Jacksonville; his maternal grandparents, Bobby, Jr. and Susie Webb of Piggott; his paternal grandmother, Becky Billips of Corning; his aunt, Millicent Webb of Piggott; an uncle and his wife, Shannon and Tammy Higdon of Piggott; his maternal great-grandparents, Mary and Julius Renfro, Eithel Webb and Bob Webb, Sr., all of Piggott; his maternal great-great-grandmother, Juanita Rogers of Illinois; his paternal great-grandfathers, Max Rogers and Bruce Thrasher, both of Piggott; his cousins, Hunter Higdon and Shianne Higdon; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Funeral services were held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, March 30, 2003, in the Irby Funeral Home Chapel with Gary Hancock officiating. Burial followed in the Piggott Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Darrin Moore, Jerry Wade Morgan, Brian James, and Chad Beck. Honorary pallbearers were Shannon Higdon, Chris Simpson, J.P. McComb, and Blaine Howell.

Irby Funeral Home of Piggott was in charge of the arrangements.

Lovie Kirk

Lovie Kirk, 95, of Piggott died Monday, June 23, in the Piggott Nursing Center in Piggott.

She was born July 24, 1907, in Lilbourn, Mo., the daughter of Steve and Alice Davidson.

She was united in marriage to Milo Wilson. He preceded her in death in 1945. She then married John Kirk who also preceded her in death in 1980.

She was also preceded in death by four sons, James Wilson, Eldois Wilson, Odell Wilson and Bill Wilson; one daughter, Glenda Urton; four brothers and one sister.

She is survived by one son, Maurice Wilson and wife, Chris, of Saint Louis; 15 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 26, 2003, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Kelly Cisco officiating. Burial will be in Cummins Chapel Cemetery near Pollard. Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott is in charge of the arrangements.
